Summerslam 2007 Predictions

The wait is finally over! Summerslam is one of the bigger Pay Per Views of the year and offers us the potential for several title changes. I believe one of the biggest title changes many were waiting to see will occur here and now (as rumor sites also suggest). I'm looking for a total of 2 title changes at the event, but I have to say WWE is doing a good job lately of teasing us to make us believe that..For this Pay Per View, I'm competing head-to-head with Edward Ball who is the author of the WWE Geek Blog. I'll list his picks after each of mine and see how we do in the spirit of friendly competition.

With that, here's my predictions for the big summer event:

CM Punk vs. John Morrison

The first of several matches which seem tough to predict, and you could go either way here. Seeing as the last match involving this two on ECW had Morrison capturing the win, that's usually a setup for Punk to win the next time (hence the title). It makes you think CM Punk has to win one of these times, but it seems that they want a very established champion for the brand. So Morrison wins again. Tommy Dreamer will be his next competitor on ECW. The fans voting in my blog poll here, overwhelmingly picked Punk to win it.

Prediction: Morrison continues his reign as ECW champ.
(WWE Geek's Pick: John Morrison)

Diva Battle Royal (for #1 Women's Contender):

To pick this one you could almost draw a name from a hat or throw a dart at a list of Diva names. The WWE could go many ways with this. However, Beth Phoenix seems like a new, dominant and tough competitor. I agree with a fan who told me that if not Beth Phoenix, it's Michelle McCool. But in terms of a tough new heel to become women's champ, I'll go with Beth Phoenix.

Prediction: Beth Phoenix wins and becomes #1 contender for the Women's belt.
(WWE Geek's Pick: Mickie James)

Batista vs Great Khali

Khali is an imposing yet clumsy champion. He's decimated the likes of Flair, Batista and Kane on Smackdown leading up to this Summerslam. His new "claw" move has shown there's no escape. Prior to Edge being injured, Batista had lost his championship opportunities, for a short while, which would lead one to believe there was no plan for Batista to have the belt back soon. Khali will continue his reign in this match with a win. Foul play or a disqualification may play a part, setting up further contests.

Prediction: Khali retains the title with his tough vice grip claw, or some sort of DQ mayhem happens where Batista doesn't win the title.
(WWE Geek's Pick: Batista)

Finlay vs Kane

This match was an add-on during the past week due to MVP's condition. MVP is unfit to wrestle, so instead Kane will battle Finlay. Makes for an easy pick, Kane takes this one off a chokeslam.

Prediction: Kane wins via pinfall, after some probable Hornswaggle interference.
(WWE Geek's Pick: Finlay)

Rey Mysterio vs. Chavo Guerrero

The 1st of two great superstars that WWE has been saving just for this event. Revenge is sweet and will be on the mind of Rey Mysterio. Chavo has been trying to play mind games on his opponent each week on Smackdown, but we all know that Mysterio will show us his high flying aerial moves en route to a comeback victory. Easy prediction here, Mysterio with the comeback win, this and the HHH match can be called the "no-brainers" of the card, but will still be treats to fans.

Prediction: Mysterio does the 619 and many other moves on Chavo to get his revenge and a comeback victory.
(WWE Geek's Pick: Rey Mysterio)

Triple H vs. King Booker

The return of one of WWE's greatest in Triple H. Here he will do battle with King Booker who has been trash talking everyone on Raw lately. Based on a good 100 or so promo ads showing us that Triple H will be returning, who'd pick against him here? Triple H makes his triumphant return to beat Booker and continue to be "King of Kings". This also will end Booker's king-ship so that a new King can be proclaimed at the next "King of the Ring".

Prediction: WWE fans get to see a victorious return of Triple H and the world famous pedigree as HHH pins Booker.
(WWE Geek's Pick: Triple H)

Carlito vs. Mr. Kennedy vs. Umaga (IC Title)

Most of the past greats such as Rock, HHH and Stone Cold started off winning the Intercontinental title before they made their climb to the top and captured the WWE belt. This is where Kennedy starts his rise (most likely aided by being Mr. McMahon's lost son). Kennedy will somehow pull out the victory here, especially if he's getting the push to be WWE champ. Perhaps Vince interferes on his son's behalf, since Umaga was part of why Vince got shaved bald at Wrestlemania. (Note: WWE.com had a poll asking fans who will take this one. 33% of votes went to each competitor)

Prediction: Kennedy wins and proud Papa McMahon welcomes him to the family.
(WWE Geek's Pick: Mr. Kennedy)

Randy Orton vs. John Cena

In the words of John Cena's entrance song "Your time is up, the time is now". Sorry to say Cena fans all over, this will be the place where Cena finally loses his belt. The WWE has been known to shock us before, but Cena has had an epic and lengthy title run and its time for a heel to take over. The other point to mention is that Orton has given a bit of an injury to other opponents' heads (Shawn Michaels and RVD, etc) before he puts them out of business for a while. He had Cena clutching his injured head on Raw this past week. I believe Orton takes the belt here, but its hard to know if he will send Cena out injured on a stretcher, let's hope that its not the case. The Game will be back and ready to challenge Orton for his newly won title, so don't despair.

Prediction: Randy Orton becomes the new WWE Champ as Cena's title reign ends. Triple H will become his new feud while Cena leaves to work on a new movie and rap album.
(WWE Geek's Pick: Randy Orton)

Vince's Child Named?

Why not make the event even bigger? This Pay Per View should finally give us that answer that Coach and Vince have been seeking for a few weeks now. It could even play into the IC title or WWE title match, which could make this the best Pay Per View of 2007. My guess is that Kennedy is named the son. I still hold Snitsky and Randy Orton as the wildcards..Stay tuned!

Overall, fans will be treated to 2 great comeback victories (HHH and Mysterio) as well as at least 2-3 title changes. Feel free to disagree with any pick and leave a comment. I respectfully ask for comments to be on the shorter side. Thanks and enjoy the biggest event of the Summer, Summerslam!

I heard that Vince's child won't be named until sometime in October during a 3 hour Raw show and that this angle is supposed to last up to Wrestlemania 24 with HHH vs. Kennedy (or whomever the kid is).

I say your mostly right but i can see a Finlay victory. My hopes go out to Morrison retaining and Orton gaining gold. I could see Cena winning due to all the rumors of Orton winning, but i want Orton's victory here. About Kennedy being the son, i hope not but i can see it happening. It would be cool for it to be a mid-carder that needs a push. doubt it though.
