WWE Releases Gene Snitsky

Another superstar has been released, this time from the WWE Raw roster, as WWE released Gene Snitsky (Eugene Alan (Gene) Snisky) on 12/11/08. Snitsky debuted with WWE back in September of 2004. Snitsky was part of the WWE Raw roster for some time as well as ECW, and was heavily involved in the "Lita's baby" storyline where he feuded with Kane and eventually caused Lita to have a miscarriage of Kane's baby. His famous line used to be "it wasn't my fault!" Snitsky had PPV matchups involving Kane, Undertaker and Heidenreich. At Taboo Tuesday he used a steel chair to crush Kane's larynx, forcing Kane to leave WWE for a bit.

In 2007, Snitsky headed over to ECW to continue with the gimmick of a shaven-head psychopath, scaring opponents and divas alike backstage. Snitsky made a return to WWE Raw again after being drafted in the 2008 WWE Draft. This time Snitsky contined with his more sinister role, as he looked to extract pain on all opponents. Snitsky soon served mainly as a larger superstar for others to beat en route to win streaks, title shots and title defenses. Jokes were often made about the condition of Snitsky's teeth, which were dirty and yellowish in color.

Official statement from WWE.com on Snitsky's release:

World Wrestling Entertainment has come to terms on the release of Raw Superstar Gene Snitsky as of today, December 11. WWE wishes Gene the best in all future endeavors.

It seems as if the recent move to bring Mike Knox onto the WWE Raw TV show, made Knox a replacement for Snitsky. Knox has had a role so far as an intimidator, eerily staring down superstars and divas with no words, then attacking some at random points. Snitsky's character used to prey upon superstars and delight in their pain. Best wishes to Gene Snitsky in whatever future endeavors he pursues.

Cena Returning, Knox Moving to Raw

According to the latest promo video pieces on Monday Night Raw, John Cena's headed back from his neck surgery and rehab within a month's time. Cena will be back just in time for the 2008 Survivor Series, but there's no official word on how he'll be involved in the PPV. Will he be wrestling, or will he be a guest at the PPV? You'd have to believe Cena will have unfinished business with Batista once he gets back. Batista didn't purposely hurt Cena, but most fans knew one battle between the two superstars wouldn't be enough. Cena will be in line for the World Heavyweight title and most likely resume his feud with the Animal. Expect an announcement soon from Raw GM Mike Adamle regarding the title match at Survivor Series.

Another promo piece recently show on Raw was for ECW superstar Mike Knox. Knox seems to be defecting to Raw after being a maninstay on ECW for some time now. Most recently, Knox was involved in a feud with Finlay, but now all of a sudden he's moving to Raw. These sorts of unexplained moves make the annual WWE Drafts seem even less important, and fail to create true buzz for a superstar. How about a storyline where Knox is disgruntled with his competition or lack of a title shot on ECW? Or a trade where some unused star on Raw is sent to ECW? For example, Snitsky and Knox seem interchangeable. No reason Snitsky can't take Knox' role on the ECW roster. Knox seemed capable of being a heel involved in the ECW title chase, besides Mark Henry, yet he wasn't used in that capacity so much. So maybe Knox becomes a Snitsky clone on Raw, or possibly he gets a boost and provides a new foe for Batista while he awaits his next battle against John Cena.

Vince vs. Hornswoggle & HHH's Absence

Next week Mr. McMahon seems to be taking his "tough love" approach with son Hornswoggle into his own hands, and maybe a bit too far. He set up his own No DQ match one on one against his illegitimate son, and vows he's finally going to beat some sense into him. Mr. McMahon also told Horney's buddy, Finlay he could not intervene either, or else "He's FIRED!" So that sets up quite the situation for next week's show.

There's been rumors that there will be a Mick Foley vs. Vince McMahon match at Wrestlemania this year. Vince seems to get involved in a match at the big event each time now, with last year's Battle of the Billionaires against Trump. I'm expecting that we may see Foley come to Hornswoggle's rescue this coming Monday to set things up. Mick's been a surprise tag team partner of Horney before so I wouldn't doubt this. Then again, we may also end up seeing Finlay v. McMahon at Wrestlemania in some sort of battle over the rights to Hornswoggle. Maybe there will even be a briefcase hanging over head with the birth certificate inside, similar to the Money in the Bank match.

You probably noticed a big absence from this past week's Raw, Triple H. According to Wrestling Observer, The reason HHH missed the show on Monday and won't be on next week's show is that his brother-in-law, Gordon Ouellette, passed away suddenly over the weekend at the age of 41. There is a story at www.nashuatelegraph.com although didn't give any details on the death.

This most likely explains why Snitsky was the sixth man in the tag match, taking the place of the absent Triple H. Don't expect the dental hygiene-adverse Snitsky to be in the Elimination Chamber though.

Backstage Vince was with Hornswoggle. Vince said he's concerned about him being in the Rumble. Vince said he wants to give him some experience tonight with a "mini Royal Rumble" match. Vince said Mr. Kennedy will be the first participant, then Mankind, then Batista and a surprise or two. Vince said if Hornswoggle's successful tonight he just may have a chance to win the real Royal Rumble. Vince grabbed Hornswoggle around the neck and choked him a bit and reminded him his last name's McMahon and not to forget it.

Triple H shown walking backstage on the way out to the ring to face Snitsky.

WWE Rewind showed Raw from two weeks ago where Triple H and Flair competed. Flair got the win but only thanks to interference from William Regal who caused a DQ.

Triple H vs. Snitsky

Snitsky took control early on by slamming Triple H face first to the corner. Snitsky whipped HHH to the opposite corner, but HHH came back to clothesline him. When Raw came back, Triple H received a boot to the face from Snitsky in the ring. Snitsky began to ram HHH in the corner of the ring then whipped him across to the other side. Snitsky used a sideslam but HHH managed to kick out of the pin attempt. HHH got up and started battling back, then ran off the ropes. Snitsky caught him in a bear hug. As HHH walked up the ramp, Vince appeard on the Titantron and a screen near the top of the ramp. Vince advised HHH to calm down. HHH with the sledgehammer still in hand smashed it into the screen causing sparks and an explosion. Smoke came from the broken screen as HHH posed for the crowd.

Commercial shown for the Armageddon DVD which is on sale tomorrow. Raw returned with the Titantron screen still smoking from the ramp. Backstage Vince McMahon screamed in HHH's face. Vince asked what other havoc he's gonna cause. Vince said he can't trust HHH so he's putting him back into the Royal Rumble match as long as he wins next week. Vince wouldn't mention who HHH will face.

Footage shown from Raw two weeks ago, when JBL arrived to the ring. Chris Jericho came out to spoil the celebration by attacking Bradshaw down near the ring.

JBL arrived to the ring in his suit with balloons falling from the rafters. JBL said there was supposed to be a "savior" for WWE. JBL showed footage of what he did to Jericho last week on Raw choking Y2J with the cable and dragging him up the ramp by it. JBL said the savior is at home now where he should have stayed before. Time ran down and a mini Kane came to the ring. Mini Batista managed to use a spinebuster on the mini Kane, then Batista Bombed him to the mat. Hornswoggle got up and started to kick mini Batista. Finally, Hornswoggle threw out the mini Batista and then fought with the Kane. Mini Kane was able to clothesline Hornswoggle off the corner ropes then went for a chokeslam. Hornswoggle blocked it twice then did a backdrop slam to eliminate the miniature Kane. Just then Khali's music hit. This time it was no miniature and the real Khali came to the ring.

Khali got into the ring and put his hands on Hornswoggle. Just then, Finlay came running down to the ring and attacked Khali. Finlay smashed a shilaleigh on Khali several times and Khali rolled out of the ring. With Khali's manager in the ring still, Finlay went in and kncoked him to the mat.

Jericho took off his shirt and told Marella to beat him up. Jericho asked for a ref so they could start a match. Marella rolled out of the ring claiming he needed to warm up first, then told Jericho he wanted to give him something to think about. Marella went over and attacked Jerry Lawler at the commentator table knocking him out of his chair. Marella continued to punch away before leaving up the ramp. Jim Ross said Jericho and Marella would fight when Raw returns.

When Raw returned Marella entered the ring and the match started. Jericho locked up Marella in a headlock. And Marella tried to shove him. Jericho chopped Marella down then later used a suplex to drop him to the mat. Santino rolled out onto the apron at one point, but Jericho did a kick off the ropes knocking Marella to the crowd barrier. Jericho continued the attack outside of the ring. Back inside, Jericho continued to dominate until he tossed Santino to the ropes. Santino held himself with the ropes and a Jericho dropkick missed allowing Marella to take control. Marella applied a hold around Jericho's neck/chest on the mat, but Jericho managed to get up and come off the ropes. Jericho gained momentum using an atomic drop and a facebuster. Jericho finished off Marella by grabbing him and bringing him down face first into Jericho's knees.

Later on the show, Batista came out to confront Edge in the ring and shoved Edge down. Batista left and then Undertaker arrived in the ring behind Edge. As Edge rolled out of the ring it left Vickie alone with Undertaker. Taker grabbed Vickie and despite Edge pleading, Taker delivered a Tombstone piledriver.

Backstage Vince was talking to Hornswoggle in his office. Vince said Hornswoggle is a lucky guy for winning and surviving all his recent matches. Vince said they can give Finlay just what he wants now, a match against Great Khali one on one. Vince then told Hornswoggle to go get them some ice cream sandwiches. As Hornswoggle left, Vince called someone on a walkie talkie. Hornswoggle was shown walking backstage where he found an empty ice cream sandwich box on the ground. He spotted a door which said "Free Ice Cream Sandwiches" and went in. As the door closed, it was Carlito in the locker room and he told Hornswoggle he was going to pay for last week. Hornswoggle retrieved a can of black spray paint and sprayed a door type opening on the wall. Carlito told Hornswoggle that wouldn't work, but Hornswoggle ran around and revved himself up then managed to run through the hole in the wall. Flair was shown backstage making his way out to the ring. Flair stopped as he came up to most of the faces from the Raw roster and other WWE staff applauding him. Triple H walked up to shake Flair's hand and hug him before Flair left for his match.

Ric Flair vs. Randy Orton
Career Threatening Match

The stipulation for this match is that if Flair loses, he must retire from the WWE.

Orton grabbed Flair's arm but Flair began to chop at his chest then tossed him to the ropes. Flair continued the chest chops in opposite corners of the ring and against the ropes. Flair caught Orton with an elbow off the ropes then stomped on him. Orton finally gained control and tossed Flair up over him off the ropes. Flair kicked out of a pinfall attempt and Orton continued to attack. Orton stood up to suplex Flair and Flair reversed to roll him up for a pin. Orton escaped and continued to beat up Flair by stomping on him. Orton went for a knee drop and Flair rolled away.

Flair tried to gain momentum but Orton dropkicked him as he came off the ropes. Orton applied a headlock as he kept Flair down. Flair got up and Orton managed to knock him out of the ring. Orton went out and the two started to fight back and forth. Orton suplexed Flair landing on the outside area. Orton got back in the ring as if he had finished off Flair. Flair got up and grabbed the bottom rope and was able to roll in to beat the ref's count. Orton pulled him to the center of the ring and dropped a knee on him followed by a side headlock.

Flair and Orton got to their feet and Orton went for an RKO. Flair shoved him away and started to gain momentum. Flair was able to hit Orton's leg from behind and take him to the mat. Flair followed by dropping Orton's knee onto his own and then slapping a Figure Four on. Orton stretched and finally grabbed the rope. Flair went for another Figure Four but Orton escaped then got up to RKO Flair down. Orton rolled on the mat clutching his hurt leg for a moment. Orton finally got over to make a pin but Flair grabbed the rope before 3. Orton continued to dominate and prepared for another RKO. This time Orton held Flair in position and showed each section of the crowd. Just then, the side apron lifted and out came Chris Jericho which distracted the ref and Orton. As both looked at Jericho jumping on the apron, Flair delivered the low blow to Orton. As the ref turned back, Flair grabbed the pinfall victory.

Orton lay on the mat as Jericho came in to check on Flair. Flair left the ring holding his head as he walked up the ramp. As Raw ended Jericho stood at the bottom of the ramp and stared at Randy Orton in the ring.

Winner: Ric Flair wins via pinfall over Randy Orton.

Sun UK Reports on Raw

The Sun UK website has a great report about this past week's Monday night Raw, which took place in Birmingham of the United Kingdom. The noteworthy points mentioned were:

- Fans were upset because all signs were confiscated as fans entered the arena. Apparently, no WWE staff was working the doors, only security staff who didn't know which signs were "ok" and which were "unacceptable".

- Lillian Garcia was booed prior to Raw when she told the fans to "hold yourr signs up high for the cameras", because there were no signs to hold up.

- Harry Smith defeated Carlito in a "dark match" before Raw. Smith is the son of legendary wrestler "British Bulldog" Davey Boy Smith.

- Snitsky defeated Robbie Liverpool in another dark match, and Hacksaw Jim Duggan made an appearance in a tag team match prior to Raw. After the match, Hacksaw grabbed a flag from a fan in the crowd and took it backstage.

- The man Umaga faced in the 3 matches on Raw was Andy Simmons who is a IPW:UK star. He got the call just a few days before Raw asking if he was free, then was defeated in 3 consecutive brutal matches by Umaga.

Thoughts on Summerslam

With Summerslam ended, you have to once again question the title situation. With the MVP vs. Hardy match removed, you'd think that would mean 1 less title change. However, there were a total of 0 title changes. It makes you wonder if guys who are returning from injury will be challenging for the titles, or guys who are still injured or suspended will (Undertaker, Jeff Hardy). You can also make the arguments: 1)never pick against Cena and 2)he's got to lose sometime.

I'm no Cena hater, I was semi-surprised he won, because they seem to be building his title reign up to epic proportions. I just hope we all get that HHH vs Cena match we'd like to see, rather than Cena going on a break from WWE after losing to say, Snitsky. It also seems with the ECW title they might be hurting CM Punk's superstar status. Smart money would say he's the most popular wrestler in ECW but maybe not. If it takes him 10 tries to win the belt, I'm not sure how worthy a champ he will make by then. I'm also willing to speculate with Mr. Kennedy, he's likely to win the Royal Rumble or another Money in the Bank en route to a title shot at Wrestlemania. Beyond that, the Pay Per Views are always entertaining, but sometimes you need to shake things up a bit.

Northjersey.com had a good writeup prior to the big Summerslam event, taking a look at why pro wrestling continues to be popular and showcasing some of the wresters involved in the event. From Northjersey.com:

"Think of it as soap opera with body slams, submission holds and the occasional folding chair thrown in.

"The story lines definitely keep you watching," said Reggie Green, 24, of Teaneck, who was eagerly looking forward to attending his third SummerSlam. "You always want to know what's going to happen next. It's fun to watch on TV, but there's nothing like being at a live event."

And this year's event will showcase the wrestling world's bag of tricks, new and old: Hard-fought and much-wanted grudge matches. A ring full of curvy female wrestlers known as divas duking it out to prove which lady is toughest. And the latest face of the WWE, champion John Cena, the clean-cut, hip-hop-loving hard body who has worn the crown for less than 12 months. "

Vince, It's a Boy!

Last night's Raw presented us with several new revelations. Fans were given two new Summerslam matches with a Triple threat IC title match (Kennedy vs. Carlito vs. Umaga) and a Divas Battle Royal (for the #1 Women's contender spot). Along with the 2 new title matches, we also discovered that Mr. McMahon has narroed down his ilegitimate child search. Last night, Vince announced to everyone that his offspring was a male WWE superstar, removing speculation that it was any of the Divas on the 3 rosters.

Last night's RAW show seemed to be heading in a direction where Snitsky was McMahon's son. The main event match came from nowhere after Vince confronted Cena in the ring. Vince also seemed to be in Randy Orton's corner endorsing the contender for Cena's title.

After last night's show it looks like 1 of the following 3 is Vince's son:

1) Mr. Kennedy - This has been a strong rumor around various wrestling news sites. Mr. Kennedy in fact received his "Kennedy" name from Vince's middle name, which would make perfect sense for the father-son relationship.

2) Snitsky - It seemed to be heading in this direction on last night's show. Where Snitsky called Vince "Dad" before going out to dismantle Cena. It could still be a strong possibility.

3) Randy Orton -
Quite possible we see this unfold at Summerslam. Randy Orton was adopted and in fact is Vince's son. Vince becomes involved in the title match, helping his newly discovered son to defeat John Cena for the WWE title.

It appears the revelation of who Vince's child is will be made at Summerslam. Pay Per Views are usually a good venue to shock the world. Summerslam airs this Sunday at 8PM on Pay Per View cable networks.
