The WWE's Top Heels
Right now the top heel in the WWE is without a question Randy Orton. He's earned the "hatred" and "respect" of many a fan after what he did in the feud with John Cena and then with his being handed the WWE title, losing it to Triple H, then winning it right back all in the same night at No Mercy.
With Edge still out, but due back at some time in the foreseeable future, that begs the question which heels in the WWE besides Orton are doing the best work and have the most potential?
Here's a look at 4 other heels doing "good" work as "bad" guys:
1) Santino Marella - He reminds me a bit of former WWF star Dino Bravo and is like a throwback to those earlier WWF times. He has that Italian "jerk" type gimmick going right now and it works well, except when he sings. He manages to get the crowd against him pretty well and at times says some funny lines. I think Santino makes for an excellent heel, and may very well end up capturing a title again, such as the IC, the Cruiserweight or half of the tag team titles.
2) Montell Vontavius Porter (MVP) - This guy's braggadocious sports star gimmick is dead on with what's going on in professional sports these days, making it yet another smart character the WWE has written in. He easily can get the crowd to hate him, and most likely love him (it's easy to see him turning face). Expect this guy to continue to be a bright star, heel and champion down the road in wrestling.
3) Mr. Kennedy - This one's a no brainer. He's got the arrogant and brash pre-match intros he does, yelling out his name twice to annoy the fans. He's already tasted WWE gold by holding the US Championship over on Smackdown for a good while. It's quite possible he will defeat Jeff Hardy for the IC title in the near future en route to his Wrestlemania title run for the WWE belt. He many even be named as Vince McMahon's true illegitimate son and then have a great feud with someone like HHH.
4) Chris Masters - He has a signature move with "The Masterlock" which not many wrestlers have broken free from (only Bobby Lashley so far). He also has decent mic skills in the ring. It's easy to see him wearing the US Championship or Intercontinental belt in his future. His character and physique remind many of the late, great Mr. Perfect, a classic heel in the WWF.
The other best heels would tend to be guys that are currently face who can turn heel and have done a good job at it in the past such as Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Undertaker, and Kane. Beyond the 4 wrestlers mentioned above there doesn't seem to be much potential as guys like Snitsky, Khali, Big Daddy V and Mark Henry are big, but they don't have the mic skills or type of character developed that fans care enough to hate and boo.
