WWE Smackdown Recap 10.12.07


WWE Smackdown Recap from Detroit, MI:

Smackdown opens with a replay of highlights from No Mercy's Punjabi Prison match between Batista and Great Khali. Batista was about 10 feet up the side wall, until Khali yanked him down to the mat. Khali escaped wall #1, and then started at wall #2. Batista displayed great agility and quickness as he scaled Wall #1 and then jumped across to wall #2, beating Khali to the outer floor and retaining his title.

Michael Cole and JBL noted that tonight Rey Mysterio will battle Finlay with the winner facing Batista for the title at Cyber Sunday. Also, Kane and Undertaker will take on MVP and Matt Hardy in tag team action. Chuck Palumbo rode down the ramp on his motorcycle with Michelle McCool on back to start off the opening match.

Chuck Palumbo vs. Chris Masters

This match was created due to Masters rushing the ring after Palumbo's win last week. Masters put Palumbo into the Masterlock, eventually shoving him to the mat.

Early on, Palumbo took the fight to Masters and began pummeling him in the corner, before clotheslining him down. Palumbo continued to beat up Masters around the ring until Masters was able to kick him in the corner. Masters tried for a suplex, but Palumbo reversed and used his own suplex. Masters was able to escape after moving away from an elbow drop. Masters then took the fight to Palumbo in the corner of the ring, then put him into a submission hold in the center of the ring. With Palumbo back up on his feet, Masters whipped him to the ropes then used a Powerslam.

Masters signaled for the Masterlock and tried to apply it as Chuck stood back up. Palumbo backed Masters into a corner before he could apply the hold. Palumbo gained momentum knocking Masters down several times, then tried to run at him in the corner. Masters delivered a boot to Chuck and tried to attack, but Palumbo flipped him up over his back. Chuck went for a big boot to Masters off the ropes, but Masters ducked. Masters tried a clothesline, but Palumbo ducked then grabbed Masters to roll him up for a pinfall victory.

As Palumbo tried to get on his motorcycle after the win, Masters attacked from behind and eventually slapped the Masterlock on him. Masters kept the hold locked in at the bottom of the ramp, with Michelle looking on. Masters eventually tossed Palumbo to the floor before heading backstage.

Winner: Chuck Palumbo wins via pinfall over Chris Masters.




Jay Adams and Conrad Borne vs. Jesse & Festus

Jesse told the crowd prior to the match that Festus is different outside of the ring, but when the bell rings he becomes a tiger. Festus had a stupor on his face and Jesse called for the bell to ring. All of a sudden, Festus' facial expression become one of rage, ready to fight.

Jesses started off the match and was tossed out through the ropes. Jesse got on the apron and fought his way back in, then escaped an armbar toss by his opponent. Deuce & Domino were shown backstage watching the match with Cherry. Jesse tagged in Festus, who displayed pure power in the ring as he tossed one opponent into the other on the apron. Festus picked up an opponent and tossed him towards Jesse's corner, then tagged in Jesse. Jesse attacked for a bit before being clotheslined right down. Jesse managed to escape and tag Festus back in, who continued to dominate both opponents.

Jesse scored the pinfall victory after Festus threw him off the top ropes at their in-ring opponent. As the bell rang for the victory, Festus went back to his pre-match look.

Winners: Jesse & Festus win via pinfall over Adams and Borne.

Backstage, Deuce and Domino made fun of Festus after seeing the match end. Jamie Noble entered the locker room and told Deuce and Domino he overheard Jimmy Wang Yang talking about Cherry at the bar. Noble whispered to Deuce what he had overheard causing him to become furious. Deuce and Domino took Noble with them to go talk to GM Vickie Guerrero about setting up a match.




Drew McIntyre vs. Brett Major

The Scottish wrestle, Drew McIntyre made his Smackdown debut, led to the ring by his mentor, Dave Taylor. Early on McIntyre forced Major to the mat twisting his arm, but Brett reversed it to twist Drew's arm. McIntyre managed to pick up Major in a suplex and then set him over the ropes standing on the side apron. McIntyre allowed Major to get back into the ring but immediately attacked him.

Major fought back in the ring and jumped on McIntyre a few times off the ropes, knocking him down. McIntyre kicked out of a pin attempt then was dropkicked down again by Brett. Outside the ring, Dave Taylor delivered a cheapshot to Brian Major, distracting Brett. As Brett looked out of the ring at what was going down, Mcintyre was able to roll him up for a pinfall and get his first WWE Smackdown win.

Winner: Drew McIntyre wins via pinfall over Brett Major.

MVP shown backstage on his cell phone talking about the big tag match tonight. Matt Hardy showed up and MVP ended the call asking Matt if he's ready to go. MVP told him he knows how to handle the situation with Kane and Taker. Matt said he's been against both of them as well, but they need to compete as a team tonight. MVP said tonight they're a team and on the same page, then offered a handshake to Matt. Matt shook on it but stared at MVP, and MVP told him "just follow my lead".




Highlights from No Mercy shown, with Orton being handed the WWE title, then being defeated by Triple H in the opening match. HHH then competed in 2 more matches, first defending successfully against Umaga, then having to endure a Last Man Standing match with Orton. Orton recaptured the title at the end of the event. A special encore presentation of the PPV is available all week long.

Kane & Undertaker vs. Matt Hardy and MVP

Hardy and MVP discussed strategy before Kane and Taker arrived to the ring. Hardy and MVP exited once Kane got there, and didnt get back to the apron until after Taker's entrance. Michael Cole noted it's the first time in a year the Brothers of Destruction have united as a tag team. JBL said the strategy for MVP and Hardy would be simple, to survive.

The Brothers of Destruction dominated the match despite Hardy and MVP giving their all. After a commercial break, Kane delivered a strong clothesline to MVP off the ropes and went for a pin but MVP kicked out, then rolled out of the ring. Taker went over and slammed MVP head first into the steps, then threw him back into the ring. MVP managed to escape the corner once Kane came in to beat him up. MVP tagged Hardy back in who began to attack Kane successfully. Hardy scored an elbow to the back of Kane off the ropes then a leg drop. Hardy went for Twist of Fate, but Kane shoved him to the ropes then kicked him down. Hardy got back up and eluded a move from Kane then scored the Twist of Fate. Matt got up and fell back towards the ropes allowing MVP to tag in and try the pin on Kane. Kane kicked out, and then was able to tag Taker in who took the fight to MVP.

Taker went to punch MVP who ducked, causing Taker to punch Hardy off the apron instead. With Hardy out of the picture, the brothers then both got into the ring with MVP. As Kane went back out to the apron, Taker grabbed MVP and did the Tombstone Piledriver to finish him off for the win.

Winners: Kane & Undertaker win via pinfall over Matt Hardy & MVP.




Raw Rebound shown with the Randy Orton championship celebration. Raw superstars lined up at the top of the ramp as per Mr. McMahon. Vince then had Orton come to the ring and asked where Triple H was. Vince demanded that Orton go back and drag the previously beat up HHH to the ring for the ceremony. As Orton, started up the ramp, all of a sudden, Shawn Mchaels' music came on. HBK came walking up from backstage and then followed Orton down to the ring. HBK entered and attacked Orton, the man who put him on the injury list. HBK finished up with a Sweet Chin Music kick leaving Orton down on the mat.

New Smackdown reporter, Anastasia Rose interviewed Rey Mysterio backstage. Anastasia asked about tonight's matchup with Finlay. Mysterio said Finlay played him bad at No Mercy and he didn't like it all. Mysterio said if FInlay wants to play dirty, he can too. Mysterio said if Finlay likes to fight, he'll give him a fight.

Cole and JBL remarked about last month's wedding ceremony where Teddy Long collapsed before he could even say "I do". Cole said Teddy has been moved out of the Intensive Care unit and is now resting at home, with fiancee Kristal by his side.

Vickie Guerrero shown in an office with Jamie Noble backstage. Noble congratulated Vickie on moving right in and taking the GM job away from Teddy. Noble said he took opportunity to get Deuce and Domino mad so that they would go after Jimmy Wang Yang. Vickie told Noble she made a special opportunity for him tonight, as he will get to face The Great Khali, next. Noble was furious as he left the office.




Jamie Noble vs. The Great Khali

Noble tried to grab the leg of Khali but got shoved down to the ropes. Khali came over to the corner and Noble tried to fight back, eventually climbing the ropes to try a move. Khali picked up Noble off the ropes then threw him across the ring. Khali clotheslined Noble down then put the strong vice grip on him, squeezing his skull between both hands. Noble went out quick and the ref called for the bell. JBL remarked that Noble has been beaten by everything from a leprechaun to a giant.

Noble was out cold on the mat with the ref checking on his condition as Khali and his translator exited up the ramp.

Winner: Great Khali wins via submission over Jamie Noble.




Previous Cyber Sunday match highlights shown including Booker vs. Cena vs Big Show title match, where the fans voted that Booker's title would be on the line. Also shown were several diva matches the fans voted for and a cage match chosen for Flair and Randy Orton.


Deuce vs. Jimmy Wang Yang

Deuce attacked Yang early on, kicking him and taking him down to the mat. Deuce started choking Yang on the bottom rope. Duece continued to punish Yang, seating him up on the corner ropes and punching at him. Deuce then climbed up to try to slam him down but Yang elbowed him off, then did a moonsault onto Deuce. Yang captured a quick pinfall and the victory!

After the bell rang, Domino got into the ring and beat up Yang, knocking him down to the mat. Domino held Yang and allowed Cherry to come in and start slapping him in the face. Deuce and Domino then sat Yang up on the mat and delivered their finisher, a strong boot to his face off the ropes. JBL said Yang got what he deserved for talking about Cherry like he did.

Winner: Jimmy Wang Yang wins via pinfall over Deuce.




Batista came down to the ring in a suit with his World Heavyweight championship belt in hand. JBL said you have to hand it to Batista for winning the tough Punjabi prison match at No Mercy. Michael Cole noted that Batista's opponent for Cyber Sunday will be decided next, as Batista continued to pose with his belt from the corner of the ring.

Promo ad shown for "The Condemned" DVD starring Stone Cold Steve Austin. DVD includes several bonus features such as behind the scenes interviews and footage.

Rey Mysterio vs. Finlay
(#1 Contender's Match)

Before the match could begin, JBL stood up with a microphone and reminded fans they can vote for the referee for the Batista vs (Finlay or Mysterio) match at Cyber Sunday. The choices are Mick Foley, Stone Cold Steve Austin or JBL. Votes can be made at WWE.com.

Mysterio attacked Finlay furiously to start things off, kicking away at him in the corner of the ring. Finlay tried to gain control but Rey used a headscissors off the ropes to toss Finlay to the mat. Rey tried to follow with a moonsault but missed as Finlay moved away. Finlay rolled out of the ring and grabbed his shalalee. Mysterio saw it and jumped over the ropes to land on Finlay. Smackdown headed to commercial break.

Smackdown returned with Mysterio in control for a bit, until Finlay was able to knock Rey off the side apron and beat him up outside the ring. Finlay then punished Rey back inside the ring for quite a bit using a Boston Crab. Rey withstood the hold and Finlay broke it off but continued to attack. Rey gained a bit of momentum as Finlay whipped him to the ropes, but Finlay recovered and slammed him back down.

Despite Finlay continuing to punish Rey, Mysterio was able to get a headscissors and toss Finlay down. Rey followed by jumping off the corner ropes and taking down Finlay. Mysterio went for the 619 at one point but Finlay slid out of the ring. Mysterio did a baseball slide dropkicking him down. The match concluded as the men continued to brawl and the ref kept pulling them apart. As the two men started to fight again the ref went to intervene and got shoved down by both men. The ref called for the bell, disqualifying both Finlay and Mysterio.

Finlay grabbed his shalalee after knocking Rey down and was about to attack. All of a sudden the place went dark and Undertaker's bells sounded. As the lights came back on, Taker was standing in the ring and both Rey and Finlay were down. Taker turned his attention to Batista and the champ stood up from the announcers' table with his belt. Taker signaled the belt around his waist indicating he wants his title back, and Batista held the belt up in the air staring back at him.

Winner: No winner, as both Finlay and Mysterio were disqualified for shoving the ref down.
