ECW Recap 05.20.08

ECW Recap from Des Moines, Iowa:

ECW on Sci-Fi opened with General Manager Armando Estrada in the ring with Tommy Dreamer, John Morrison, Chavo Guerrero and CM Punk. Estrada discussed the upcoming One Night Stand PPV with Extreme Rules matches. Estrada said one of the former champs in the ring will become #1 contender for the ECW title in a Fatal Fourway Singapore Cane Match. Estrada then announced later tonight we'll see a preview with a tag match of CM Punk & Tommy Dreamer against John Morrison and Chavo Guerrero.

The Miz vs. Kane

In the ring, Miz held up his tag team belt and then spoke to the crowd saying he still has a headache from Kane's chokeslam two days ago. Miz said despite all his aches and pains he's still one half of the WWE Tag team champions. Miz vowed that tonight he'll do what Morrison will do after One Night Stand, beat Kane. Kane's pyro erupted and the Big Red Machine made his way to the ring.

In the matchup, Kane took control early as he began to knock Miz around the ring, dropkicked him and then eventually punched him down in the corner. Kane continued to stay in control until Miz was able to stick a boot up in his face as he charged the corner. Kane whipped Miz to the ropes then tossed him right out over the top. Kane went out to retrieve Miz and tried to hoist him up to ram him into the ringpost. Miz slid off Kane's back and was eventually able to ram Kane's back into the post. Back in the ring, Miz took control by choking Kane against the bottom rope, then punching him in the corner.

Miz kept up with the attack trying to keep Kane down with a hold, but Kane battled back and was able to hit Miz with a huge boot from of the ropes. Off the corner Kane hit the clothesline, then prepared for the chokeslam. Kane had Miz around the neck, but Miz broke out of it with his elbow. Kane started to unload on Miz with a huge right hand then hung him upside down in the corner. Kane went to the outside and started pulling Miz by the head against the post. The ref eventually called for the bell for the DQ. Kane responded by getting back in the ring and chokeslamming Miz down, then grabbed a steel chair from the outside. Kane set the chair opening around Miz' neck then went to jump off the corner. John Morrison charged down to the ring and pulled Miz out of the ring before Kane could do damage.

Winner: The Miz wins due to disqualification of Kane.

Kofi Kingston vs. Shelton Benjamin

Shelton started off really taking it to Kofi as he hammered away on him down on the mat and near the ropes. Kofi was able to gain some momentum off the ropes and get on Shelton's shoulders to bring him down. Kofi jumped up on Shelton's shoulders again near the corner, but this time Shelton held on and tossed Kofi into the corner, hurting Kofi's knee. Shelton began to target the hurt knee with Kofi down on the mat. Shelton stood up Kofi to beat him up but Kofi responded with some kicks to Shelton. Kofi managed to jump up onto Shelton and flip him down to the mat.

Off the ropes Kofi mustered up the strength for a high dropkick to take Shelton down. Shelton was able to regain control and put Kofi in a single leg Boston Crab. Kofi eventually crawled over to the bottom rope. Kofi tried for a spinning kick to take Shelton down, but Shelton avoided it. Shelton quickly used his finisher to plant Kofi face first into the mat, then took the pin. Shelton officially ended Kofi's undefeated streak with the win.

Winner: Shelton Benjamin wins via pinfall over Kofi Kingston.

Colin Delaney & Kelly Kelly vs. Layla & Mike Knox

A replay was shown of how Colin earned his contract on ECW's 100th episode by defeating GM Armando Estrada in a match. Tonight Colin got to partner up with WWE Diva Kelly Kelly.

The two WWE divas started off the match with Layla trying to toss Kelly out of the ring. Kelly hung onto the rope then used her legs to pull Layla to the outside. Kelly continued to stay in control back in the ring as she jumped off the corner onto Layla. Mike Knox came in and pulled Kelly off the pin. Colin came in to go at Mike Knox. Knox grabbed Delaney and tossed him out over the top rope. With the two divas alone in the ring Kelly was able to finish off Layla with a move and pin her for the win. As Kelly and Colin held up their arms in victory, Knox came back in and grabbed Colin. Knox hit his finisher to plant Delaney into the mat. As Kelly attended to Colin, all of a sudden Armando Estrada's music hit and the GM came down to the ring laughing. Estrada ordered Kelly to leave the ring.

Winners: Kelly Kelly and Colin Delaney win via pinfall over Mike Knox and Layla.

Colin Delaney vs. Armando Estrada

Estrada ordered an impromptu match right after Colin had been slammed to the mat by Mike Knox. Estrada had the ref ring the bell, then quickly did his own finisher to slam Delaney down for the pinfall.

Winner: Armando Estrada wins via pinfall over Colin Delaney.

Raw Rebound covered William Regal's rise and fall. Regal became WWE King of the Ring in addition to General Manager of Raw. On last night's Raw, Regal told Mr. Kennedy he was going to fire the next person to interrupt him in the ring. Just then, Vince McMahon arrived down to the ring to Regal's surprise. Vince said Regal's actions have hurt Raw ratings and have generated an outburst of fan complaints. Vince ordered a match to go down between Kennedy and Regal later on Raw, with the winner being fired.

During the match, Regal gained control after sending Kennedy to the outside. Regal called for the mic and said he was going to make it a No DQ match. Regal grabbed a pair of brass knuckles and went to finish off Kennedy in the ring. Kennedy ducked the punch then hit the Mic Check to win the match. Regal was officially fired from Raw. The highlights closed showing Regal leaving the arena with his suitcase.

Tazz remarked that anything can happen in the WWE since Regal won King of the Ring just weeks ago, then was fired this week. Mike Adamle and Tazz ran down the matches scheduled for One Night Stand. In the Fatal Fourway Singapore Cane Match, involving John Morrison, Chavo Guerrero, CM Punk or Tommy Dreamer, the winner will get to face Kane at Night of Champions.

CM Punk & Tommy Dreamer vs. John Morrison & Chavo Guerrero

Chavo arrived to the ring after Morrison, but was not accompanied by Bam Neely. Morrison and Dreamer started things off. Morrison shoved Dreamer to the ropes and was able to knock him down several times, including an armbar takedown. Dreamer had Morrison down holding his arm back, but Morrison stood up and backed up to tag Chavo. Tommy was able to avoid a charging Morrison near the ropes then sent him back into Chavo. From here Dreamer slammed Chavo down then tagged in Punk to flip over the ropes onto him.

Punk stayed in control, slamming Chavo down on the mat, then keeping him in a hold. As Chavo stood, Punk kneed him. Chavo rammed Punk to the corner and Morrison tagged in to start beating up Punk a bit. Punk fought back and slammed Morrison down, but couldn't get the 3 count. Chavo regained control to tag in Morrison. Morrison and Chavo began working to keep Punk in the corner afterwards. Punk eventually cleared the ring of both men, then jumped over the ropes landing on Chavo. As Punk tossed Chavo in and went to the apron, Morrison grabbed Punk on his shoulders then did the electric chair to slam Punk outside. ECW went to commercial with Punk laying out of the ring.

ECW returned with Morrison pulling Punk's arms behind his back in the ring. Punk got to his feet and started to fight back. Morrison grabbed Punk did a backbreaker and Russian leg sweep before tagging Chavo back in. Chavo slapped Punk around then held him on the mat in a chin lock. Punk got back up to punch back, but Chavo tripped him down. The heels continued to isolate Punk so he couldn't get to the tag. With Chavo and Punk both down, they got to their feet and Punk hit a spin kick to the back of Chavo's head. Punk crawled for a tag, but Morrison was quick to get in and prevent it.

Punk was able to mount some offense after kneeing Morrison in the corner, then using the Bulldog. Both men were down on the mat with the ref counting. Punk finally edged over and tagged in Dreamer. Dreamer cleared house punching Morrison down, then knocking Chavo off the apron. Dreamer thought he had Morrison for a pin, but Morrison kicked out. Eventually Chavo rushed in to prevent a Dreamer pinfall. Punk came in and took Chavo to the outside. Tommy hung Morrison in the corner then ran to dropkick. Morrison avoided the move and Dreamer fell to the mat. Chavo managed to make a tag in and then landed the Frogsplash off the top rope to get the win.

Winners: Chavo Guerrero and John Morrison win via pinfall over CM Punk & Tommy Dreamer.

Following the match, Chavo and Morrison stood victorious in the ring, but not for long. Big Show's music came on and Show walked down to the ring. Show chokeslammed Chavo, then Punk, and then tossed Morrison across the ring like a ragdoll. Big Show picked up the mic with all 4 men down and announced that Armando Estrada forgot he's also a former ECW champ. Show said he's officially entering the One Night Stand Fatal Fourway Singapore Cane match at One Night Stand. Show also vowed to become ECW Champ once again. Tommy Dreamer began to get to his feet and Show seemed to be helping him up. Then out of nowhere Show grabbed Dreamer and chokeslammed him to the mat. Show exited the ring smiling with wrestlers laying everywhere.
