2008 WWE Draft Preview
The special edition of Raw this coming Monday will feature a 3 hour show, including Million Dollar Mania and the 2008 WWE Draft. During the draft, superstars and personalities from ECW, Smackdown and Raw will all be eligible to be drafted. It's possible to see anyone go anywhere so it should be an interesting show as WWE looks to mix up its rosters.
5 Wrestlers Who Won't Move
There's 5 superstars who you might call untouchable. They should remain with their current brands unless there is a huge surprise coming our ways.
1) Triple H
2) Edge
3) John Cena
4) Kane
5) Chris Jericho
I don't expect any of these top superstars to be on the move as they are the top stars right now for their respective brands. You could toss in Shawn Michaels, Jeff & Matt Hardy as well as guys who are unlikely to switch brands this coming Monday. John Cena is the only non-title holder on the list right now. I've seen murmurs that Cena should head to the more family-friendly Smackdown, but Raw continues to be the biggest show for WWE and Cena helps that rating.
As you may remember last year when Bobby Lashley was drafted to Raw from ECW, he was stripped of his title. So it will be interesting to see if a repeat "title-stripping" occurs, but I think it's less likely this year. Lashley was in a feud with Mr. McMahon and Johnathan Coachman at the time. At the time of this draft, Vince is happily giving away his money and not in a beef with a superstar.
5 Wrestlers who Could Move
There's 5 guys poised for a push and most likely need a move to a new roster. They are:
1)CM Punk
2)MVP
3)Carlito
4)Santino Marella
5)Vladimir Kozlov
It's easy to see guys like Santino, Carlito or Vladimir Kozlov being brought into the mix on ECW. MVP could move to Raw and become the guy who starts trouble with HHH, or start trouble with Jeff Hardy in a sort of continuation with his Matt Hardy feud. As for CM Punk, he's still got that Money in the Bank shot and needs a new home to showcase his talents. It wouldn't be far fetched either if one of the names on the list moves to Raw and becomes Ted Dibiase Jr.'s mystery partner. MVP could work well in that role or CM Punk should he come to Raw and turn heel. A name not on the list who is also a possiblity is Batista. The Animal was part of the brand supremacy match at Wrestlemania against Raw's Umaga, was involved in the feud with Raw's Shawn Michaels and seems like someone who's become stale in his slot at Smackdown. Batista is one name from the Night of Champions PPV we just might see move.
Expect to see the possibility of some broken up tag teams, possibly Deuce & Domino and Cade/Murdoch, even though they are already fighting amongst themselves. We could always see Deuce go to Raw, and Murdoch to Smackdown, then two new teams form to feud. There's sure to be some divas on the move as well, possibly Maryse, Kelly Kelly, Victoria, Beth Phoenix and Melina. What makes the draft most interesting is it comes right before Night of Champions. While the matches for that PPV won't change if wrestlers change rosters, it makes you wonder if any of the guys involved in its matches will move brands, or if they are automatically safe.
You can see WWE's 2008 draft live on USA as it airs Monday June 23rd at 8PM EST.
