2008 WWE Draft Recap
Last night's draft moved several key stars to new rosters, some of whom brought their titles with them. Here's a look at the 11 picks made on last night's Raw for the 2008 WWE Draft.
1) Raw drafts Rey Mysterio from Smackdown.
2) Smackdown drafts Jeff Hardy from Raw.
3) Raw drafts CM Punk from ECW.
4) ECW drafts Matt Hardy from Smackdown.
5) Smackdown drafted Jim Ross from Raw.
6) Raw drafted Michael Cole from Smackdown.
7) Raw drafted Batista from Smackdown.
8) Smackdown drafted Umaga from Raw.
9) Raw drafted Kane from ECW.
10) Smackdown drafted Mr. Kennedy from Raw.
11) Smackdown drafted Triple H from Raw.
A definite surprise as Triple H brings the WWE title to Smackdown, which already hosts Edge and his World Heavyweight title. The draft definitely freshens up some new feuds now with Mysterio, Batista, CM Punk and Kane on Raw, as well as Triple H, Kennedy and Jeff Hardy on Smackdown. Kennedy seems to be looking forward to going at Edge already since Edge took away his Money in the Bank opportunity last year, then captured the World Heavyweight title.
Another interesting move saw the commentary teams from Raw & Smackdown do a switcharoo. Jim Ros has been a mainstay on Raw, but now will work the Smackdown show, while Michael Cole moves to Raw. This could be in preparation for Smackdown's move to MyNetworkTV, but that's not for a few months. Luckily, WWE kept Mike Adamle on ECW and away from Raw or Smackdown. Also of interest, no divas were moved in the first 11 picks of the draft.
As you can see from the above picks though, it was a Raw and Smackdown shuffle this year. ECW had just one pick, bringing superstar Matt Hardy to the mix. Many wrestlers consider ECW a demotion, but Matt seems fully capable of being in the extreme brand and possibly capturing the ECW title. The big question that comes now is will we see several of the titles shift at Night of Champions? For example, Kane holds the ECW title on Raw, Triple H holds the WWE title on Smackdown. It makes you wonder if Smackdown will really have both major titles on its show, or if one is about to switch shows. Same goes for Kane's ECW title, will he really defend it on Raw, or will Show be the new champ as of Sunday? No matter whaook forward to some interesting new stories and feuds coming for each of the rosters!
