ECW Recap 06.24.08

ECW Recap from Houston, TX:

ECW kicked off with highlights from last night's Raw where Mr. McMahon gave away another million dollars in cash prizes. The final prize given away was $500,000. Just as Vince was giving his congratulations to the viewer on the phone, the Raw set began to fall apart. First a light fell several feet away from Vince, then part of the top ramp area gave way, making Vince fall. As Vince got to his feet, part of the nearby scaffolding collapsed right on top of the chairman. WWE officials and wrestlers struggled to help Vince out after the accident. Vince was eventually taken away by stretcher.

Teddy Long appeared in the ring as ECW started off. Teddy said everyone is keeping Vince McMahon in their prayers following last night's accident. Teddy added he can't give out info regarding Vince's condition due to privacy wishes. Teddy then said the show must go on and introduced the newest member of ECW, Matt Hardy.

CM Punk & Matt Hardy vs. John Morrison & The Miz

Matt & Punk worked well together early on, but eventually Miz & Morrison began to keep Punk away from the tag. Punk finally escaped from Morrison after a failed GTS, then tagged in Matt Hardy. Hardy went wild, slamming Morrison to the mat, then landing an elbow drop to the back of his head. Matt ducked on a clothesline by Morrison, then hit Twist of Fate. Miz came in to break up the pin, but Punk entered the ring and tackled him out through the ropes. Matt seemed to gain control of things, but Morrison shoved him to the ropes. Miz tripped Hardy off the ropes, but Matt still kicked out of a pin attempt.

Miz kept trying to interfere from the side apron to distract the ref and Hardy. Hornswoggle appeared from under the ring and grabbed Miz' leg. As Miz was distracted, CM Punk ran back across the ring to knock him off the apron. Matt grabbed the distracted John Morrison and hit another Twist of Fate, this time capturing the pinfall victory.

Winners: Matt Hardy & CM Punk win via pinfall over Miz and Morrison.

Kofi Kingston vs. Shelton Benjamin
Extreme Rules

Outside the ring Shelton grabbed a nearby microphone to smash over Kofi's head. After the mic shot, Shelton tossed Kofi shoulder first into the steel steps. Shelton began to toss trash cans and a chair into the ring, then retrieved Kofi. Shelton continued to dominate Kofi in the ring, including a suplex onto a trash can. At one point, Shelton charged twice at Kofi in the corner, but on the second try, Kofi smashed a trash can lid into his head. Shelton regained control as he got Kingston up on his shoulders for a Power bomb. Kofi turned the tables though by using a leg scissors to flip Shelton face first into a trash can in the corner. As Shelton was stunned from it, Kingston delivered a quick spin kick to capture the pinfall victory.

Winner: Kofi Kingston wins via pinfall over Shelton Benjamin.

Raw Rebound took a look at last night's 2008 WWE Draft where superstars like CM Punk, Kane, Matt & Jeff Hardy, Batista and even Triple H moved to new rosters. Also commentators Michael Cole and Jim Ross switched spots on Raw and Smackdown.

Mike Adamle and Tazz ran down the list of matches for Night of Champions including Cena vs. Triple H, Miz & Morrison defending the tag titles against Hornswoggle and Finlay, and Edge defending the World Heavyweight title.

Kane was shown backstage prior to his match with Mark Henry, laughing menacingly.

Mike Knox vs. Evan Bourne

Highlights were shown of Evan Bourne defeating Matt Striker last week, but Mike Knox came into the ring to breakup his victory party, kicking him down, then using his finisher.

Knox overpowered the smaller Bourne early on, using all sorts of moves. Bourne was able to escape off the shoulder of Knox on one move and kept attacking his leg. Bourne began using high speed and aerial moves, such as a missile dropkick off the corner to knock Knox down. Bourne connected on a hurricanrana, followed by an elbow to Knox in the corner. Knox was able to catch Bourne off the ropes on a spin kick, then delivered a vicious backbreaker and his finisher to win it.

Winner: Mike Knox wins via pinfall over Evan Bourne.

Mark Henry was shown walking backstage in the arena, heading out to the main event match.

Mark Henry vs. Kane

Big Show came down to the commentary table to join Tazz and Adamle for the main event.

In the match between two of the WWE's biggest men, Henry forced Kane to the corner. Kane began to punch back and eventually delivered a spin kick to the back of Henry's head, knocking him down. Kane went for a quick pin with Henry kicking out. Kane went to the apron to climb the corner ropes, eyeing Big Show as he did. Henry got back to his feet, ran over to the ropes and shook them to cause Kane to fall. Big Show stood up to watch the match. Mark Henry was able to pick up the fallen Kane off the mat and delivered a huge splash slam to capture the pinfall victory. Big Show told Tazz and Adamle he takes partial credit for distracting Kane's focus in the match. The ECW show ended with Kane down in the ring and Henry exiting up the ramp victorious.

Winner: Mark Henry wins via pinfall over Kane.
