Raw Recap 08.18.08

Raw Recap from Chicago, IL:

Tonight's Raw opened with Chris Jericho making his way to the ring in a suit. Jericho said he wasn't there to apologize for what happened at Summerslam to HBK's wife, because it was in fact Michaels' fault for bringing her to the ring. Jericho introduced highlights of last night's event, where Michaels was telling the fans due to doctors' advice he was going to walk away from WWE wrestling. Chris Jericho came out to interrupt and told Michaels to admit to his family that he's leaving because of what Jericho did to him. Michaels agreed to do so, if Jericho would admit he'll never be Shawn Michaels. HBK went to leave and Jericho went to strike him. HBK ducked the punch and Jericho ended up knocking down HBK's wife Rebecca.

Jericho told the crowd they are responsible for what happened to Shawn Michaels' wife, and should be ashamed of themselves. Jericho said all Michaels had to do was admit Jericho ended his career. Jericho continued to discuss how Michaels trashed his own career and he'll have to live with it for the rest of his life. Jericho finished by saying Michaels had this coming, then exited the ring. Jericho walked up the ramp and backstage as the fans continued to boo his recent remarks.

Paul Burchill vs. Batista

Batista was on a roll after last night's victory over John Cena. Despite Burchill taking out Batista's leg and knocking him to the mat, Batista surprised him with a Spear as he turned around. Batista then hit a Spinebuster and finished him off with the Batista Bomb to win it in quick fashion. Batista posed victoriously at the top of the ramp before heading backstage.

Winner: Batista wins via pinfall over Paul Burchill.

Raw GM Mike Adamle appeared backstage with a mic in hand. Adamle introduced the newest member of Raw, Primo Colon, brother of Carlito. Just as Adamle started to interview him, he brushed him aside and rushed off to talk to John Cena who just arrived to the building. Adamle said he wanted to give him a heads up on his match on Raw tonight. Cena avoided him and walked straight for Batista. Cena told Batista great match last night and the better man won. Cena offered a handshake then added "but that was last night". Batista smirked as Cena walked off.

Raw returned with Jillian Hall and Katie Lea in the ring. Jillian sang a rendition of a Chicago song as the crowd booed her. Kelly Kelly's music came on to interrupt the awful singing.

Kelly Kelly & Mickie James vs. Jillian Hall & Katie Lea

During the match, Katie and Jillian began to beat up on Kelly, keeping her away from a tag. Mickie James tried to get in to stop it, but the ref held her back. Kelly finally escaped by putting her knees up for Jillian to land on as she tried to flip. Mickie James got into the ring and started to knock Katie around, then took out her frustration on Jillian too. Mickie hit a neckbreaker and tried to pin Katie, but Jillian came in to break it up. Kelly Kelly got in the ring and she and Mickie hit a double dropkick on Jillian. Katie tried to surprise Mickie with a roll up pin, but Mickie kicked out then hit her DDT to win it.

Winners: Kelly Kelly & Mickie James win via pinfall over Katie Lea & Jillian Hall.

As Raw returned, Michael Cole announced to viewers that John Cena gets to face Cody Rhodes & Ted Dibiase in a 2 on 1 Handicap match. JBL's white limo pulled out next to the ramp and JBL made his way to the ring.

Jamie Noble vs. JBL

JBL seemed to take his frustrations over last night's loss to Punk on Noble. JBL booted Noble down, then delivered repeated elbow drops to Noble's sternum. JBL stood Noble up then came off the ropes to hit a vicious Clothesline from Hell. JBL wasn't finished there as he stood Noble up again and clotheslined him down again, and again. JBL took a pinfall at this point, but the ref called for the bell stopping the match. JBL was declared winner.

Winner: JBL wins due to referee's decision to stop the match as Noble couldn't continue.

Raw GM Mike Adamle came out to the top of the ramp. Adamle announced that later tonight, CM Punk will battle Chris Jericho. Adamle said he has been compelled by Shane & Stephanie McMahon to make an announcement regarding the World Heavyweight title match. Adamle said at Unforgiven 5 wrestlers will compete in a 20 minute match, including CM Punk. Participants for the match will be CM Punk, Kane, JBL, Batista and John Cena. During the match, any wrestler who makes a pinfall becomes the title holder. The match is called Championship Scramble, and whichever wrestler is holding the title at the end of 20 minutes becomes the official champ.

John Cena vs. Rhodes & Dibiase
2 on 1 Handicap match

After Rhodes and Dibiase took to the ring, Cryme Tyme made a surprise appearance. Chad got up on the apron to distract the duo, while JTG snuck around the ring and grabbed their championship belts. Cryme Tyme took off with the belts backstage and then Cena made his entrance.

Cena took a beating for many minutes against the tag champs, but eventually started to fight back against Rhodes. Cena got to his feet and blocked punches then fired back, knocking Rhodes down. Cena threw several shoulder blocks off the ropes then hit a sideslam. Cena did the Five Knuckle Shuffle staring Dibiase down. As Cena set up for the FU, Dibiase came in. Cena dropped Rhodes to the mat and clotheslined Dibiase down hard. Rhodes tried to attack Cena off the ropes, but Cena tripped him down then locked in the STFU to win it.

Winner: John Cena wins via submission over Rhodes & Dibiase.

Raw returned to show highlights of the Michaels and Jericho feud. Michael Cole said that HBK's wife Rebecca suffered a fractured jaw due to Jericho's punch last night. Footage was shown from last night where Michael Cole tried to get an interview with Michaels and his wife as they were leaving. A visibly shaken Michaels said he was heading home for his kids who just watched their mother get punched in the face. Michaels finished by saying he was then coming for "him", referring to Jericho.

Todd Grisham interviewed CM Punk backstage. Punk said what Jericho did last night was the lowest thing he's seen in sometime. Punk said in his hometown that Jericho's got a lot coming to him, and it's gonna be done Chicago-style.

D-Lo Brown vs. Santino Marella

Kofi Kingston watched along with the commentary team to give his thoughts on the match. D-Lo took control of things and prepared to hit the splash off the corner ropes. Beth Phoenix got into the ring and stood in front of Santino to prevent D-Lo's jump. D-Lo got in Beth's face and told her "get to stepping". Beth slapped D-Lo in the face and the ref called for the bell for a DQ. Santino told Beth to move away and he'd handle D-Lo, but D-Lo punched Santino then knocked him out of the ring. As D-Lo fell near the commentator's table, Kofi grabbed him and slammed him face first into the table.

Winner: D-Lo Brown wins due to disqualification over Santino Marella.

The Big Red Machine Kane came to the ring to discuss last week's revelation that Rey Mysterio's mask was in his burlap bag. Kane said the bag gave him comfort and happiness as he carried it around. Kane said Mysterio hasn't been seen for 6 weeks, and that's because Kane never liked him. After calling Mysterio a slithering slime, Kane said he crushed Rey's spirit in a parking lot a few weeks ago. Kane finished by asking "Is he alive, or is he dead?" As Kane started laughing maniacally, Batista's music came on and Batista came to the ring to attack. Batista got whipped to the corner then speared Kane down. After a spinebuster, Batista was about to Batista Bomb Kane, but Kane clipped his leg. Kane delivered the Chokeslam before exiting the ring.

Chris Jericho vs. CM Punk

Lance Cade accompanied Jericho the ring. Tonight's match was back and forth with Punk getting knocked to the outside, but later regaining momentum in the ring. Punk hit an impressive backbreaker on Jericho then a running knee into Jericho in the corner. Punk prepared for the Bulldog but Jericho shoved him away in the air and down to the mat. The two wrestlers continued to trade pinfalls and moves.

Jericho whipped Punk into the corner then ran at him for a clothesline. Punk countered and hoisted Jericho up for the GTS, but Jericho grabbed the top rope. Jericho slid off and put Punk into Walls of Jericho. Punk strained to finally reach over to the bottom rope, breaking the hold. Jericho charged at Punk near the ropes and Punk grabbed Jericho for the GTS. Again, Jericho grabbed the rope to escape it. Jericho went to the corner turnbuckle, but Punk ran up the corner to deliver a knee, then bulldogged Jericho down to the mat. With Punk in control, Lance Cade got on the side apron. Punk ran over to knock Cade off. As the ref became distracted, Jericho surprised Punk and hit the Codebreaker to win it.

Winner: Chris Jericho wins via pinfall over CM Punk.
