Cena vs. Batista & Kane Mystery
This past Monday John Cena & Batista were forced to wrestle as a team once again, under the orders of Raw GM Mike Adamle. The duo just couldn't work together well enough this time, and their differences got in the way of retaining the belts. Holding the tag titles for just a week, they returned the titles promptly to the young and cocky, Cody Rhodes and Ted Dibiase again. I'm willing to venture a guess early that Rhodes and Dibiase will drop the titles and re-claim them again, and possibly again. Then they can begin the bragging of "5-time tag champs", even though each reign is short lived. It'll go a long way in developing Rhodes & Dibiase as the perfect heel tag team for now.
The Cena vs. Batista contest has the potential to be the best match of Summerslam, with the exception of Jeff Hardy vs. MVP, depending how it goes. The match is a first ever, six years in the making, or a few weeks depending how you see it. The each seem to have a ton of fan support, although the WWE Text poll showed 73% of fans (who voted) see Cena as the bigger star. It could end in a draw, giving fans more anticipation for the next contest. In all reality, this match should be a Summerslam headliner, but these guys were on opposing shows with the major titles, and WWE didn't want a unified champ again. So expect this feud to carry beyond Summerslam, although it's one of WWE's biggest PPV's of the year.
As for Mike Adamle, he continues his diplomatic, almost political nature as the new Raw General Manager. He does everything from quoting Mikhail Gorbachev and Ronald Reagan, to acting as a goodwill ambassador between evil Kane and the fans. On Monday he attempted to show the fans his courage and bravery by setting foot in the same ring as the Big Red Machine, and imploring him to hand over the burlap sack. Kane eventually did reveal the contents of his bag, after Adamle tried to psycho-analyze him. The joke was on Adamle as Kane revealed the bag has been holding a mask, Rey Mysterio's in fact. Now the plot thickens and fans wonder what Kane may have done to the MIA Rey Mysterio. Fans will also wonder if Adamle should turn heel already because he's surely continuing to receive boos, "What?" chants, and mocking comments from the audience. With the upcoming shift to a PG rating by WWE, it's most likely that Mike Adamle continues his gig as the "voice of reason", until Vince McMahon returns to fire him.
