2008 Summerslam Results

WWE's 2008 Summerslam Pay-Per View has officially ended! This year's event saw a six years in the making clash between John Cena and Batista, the Undertaker's return to fight Edge in Hell in a Cell and CM Punk defending his World Heavyweight title against JBL. Also both Matt and Jeff Hardy were in various contests, with Matt going for the ECW title and Jeff fighting a family foe, MVP. Without further ado, here's the full results for this year's Summerslam...

Jeff Hardy vs. MVP

A seesaw match saw MVP and Hardy going back and forth in this brawl. Hardy was in control, ready to go for the Swanton Bomb, but all of a sudden, Shelton Benjamin came running to ringside, causing a distraction. Hardy knocked Benjamin down outside and got ready again to hit the Swanton on MVP. MVP had recovered enough to roll out of the way of Jeff's flip. MVP followed up with his running kick to Jeff's head to capture the pinfall victory.

Winner: MVP wins via pinfall over Jeff Hardy.

Santino Marella & Beth Phoenix vs. Kofi Kingston & Mickie James
Intercontinental & Women's Title tag match

In this one, Kofi Kingston continued to display his high-flying acrobatics and leaping ability. At one point in the match, Kofi was about to run and dive onto Santino outside the ring. Santino jumped into Beth's arms on the outside and Kofi stopped himself. Back in the ring, Kofi charged at Santino, but Santino smartly pulled down the top rope. Mickie James grabbed Santino and DDT'd him. Beth Phoenix hit her finisher on Mickie James to win both titles for her and Santino.

Winners: Santino Marella & Beth Phoenix win via pinfall over Kofi Kingston and Mickie James to become new Intercontinental and Women's champions.

Shawn Michaels Announcement

After the winners take all tag team match, Shawn Michaels came down to the ring along with his wife Rebecca. Michaels said his doctors have advised him to stop wrestling due to injury. Michaels informed fans that at this point he wants to follow their advice and leave WWE, to become a good family man.

As Michaels thanked the fans and prepared to leave, Chris Jericho's music came on to interrupt. Y2J came down to the ring and told HBK to let the fans know he's leaving due to what Jericho did. Michaels said he'll go home and tell his family that, only if Jericho goes home and tells his family he'll never be Shawn Michaels. HBK was leaving the ring as an enraged Jericho went to strike him. Jericho missed HBK but ended up punching his wife Rebecca, knocking her down. Jericho left the scene with Michaels attending to his fallen wife.

Matt Hardy vs. Mark Henry
ECW Title match

Matt Hardy was all set to become new ECW champ as he hit the patented Twist of Fate on Mark Hardy. Unfortunately, Tony Atlas interfered to break the referee's count, causing a disqualification in Matt's favor. Atlas started to pummel Matt in the ring, but Jeff Hardy ran down to the ring for the save. Matt and Jeff then hit a double suplex on Mark Henry outside the ring.

Winner: Matt Hardy wins via disqualification over Mark Henry.

JBL vs. CM Punk
World Heavyweight title

A match many expected to be lackluster, turned out to be quite a show for the fans. The match went back and forth early, with Punk commanding things first, then JBL hitting a shoulder block to gain control. Punk became busted open bleeding after he and JBL knocked heads at one point. JBL went for the Clothesline at Hell to try to end the match, but Punk ducked it and hit the Go to Sleep finisher to retain his title.

Winner: CM Punk wins via pinfall over JBL to retain the World Heavyweight Championship.

Great Khali vs. Triple H
WWE Title match

The Great Khali tried to dominate the Game as he kept him down with a nerve pinch hold. Triple H eventually escaped it, and was able to hit the Facebuster on Khali. Khali fell back and got tied up in the ropes. As Triple H charged him, Khali got a boot up in HHH's face. Triple H tried for the Pedigree, but Khali used his power to backdrop Triple H to the outside of the ring. Khali stayed in control and locked the Vice Grip on The Game. Triple H used impressive perseverance to get out of the Grip, and then finally hit the Pedigree on Khali to win it.

Winner: Triple H wins via pinfall to retain the WWE title.

Batista vs. John Cena

In a match which had been hyped up for several weeks, but was six years in the making, Batista and Cena finally met in the ring. In the match, both men had impressive displays with Cena trying the STFU and FU, and Batista hitting the Spear. The crowd got into it as both wrestlers climbed to the ropes and exchanged punches. Batista fell to the mat, and Cena tried to jump off at him. Batista was able to catch Cena and slam him in a powerbomb to the mat. After a two count, Batista kicked Cena and hit the Batista Bomb to pick up the victory in this feud.

Winner: Batista wins via pinfall over John Cena.

Edge vs. Undertaker
Hell in a Cell

The main event to cap off Summerslam was the always entertaining Hell in a Cell, featuring the Deadman's return to WWE! In the encounter, Edge started to attack early, but Undertaker soon turned the momentum in his favor. La Familia watched from backstage as the match became even more brutal. The two fought outside, with Undertaker hitting the Last Ride to send Edge through a table. Back in the ring, Edge gained control and started to pummel Undertaker in the corner of the ring, but Taker used yet another last Ride. After just a two count, the match continued. Edge tried for Old School off the ropes, but Undertaker hit an impressive Chokeslam on Edge off the top rope through two tables outside the ring!

Taker tossed Edge back into the ring and then used Edge's own Spear move on him. Undertaker continued to unleash Hell as he grabbed a TV camera to smash onto Edge. After a Conchairto, Undertaker used the Tombstone to finally pick up the pinfall victory!

Winner: The Undertaker wins via pinfall over Edge.

No major surprises in this one, as many fans expect the Cena vs. Batista feud to keep going from here. Cena has been on a strange losing streak as of late, leading you to think maybe he's either heading for some time off or a heel change? It's hard to say what the Jeff and Matt Hardy story will bring, although it lends merit to the idea of Atlas and Henry being put in a match against the Hardy's now. Also, with Triple H winning convincingly over Khali and no disputes present, you'd have to think Undertaker and Triple H are on a Smackdown collision course!

Be sure to tune in to WWE Raw this Monday night at 9PM EST on USA for more fallout!

The best part of Hell in a cell was when undertaker chokeslamed edge through the ring and then set the hole on fire.
