2008 Survivor Series Predictions

2008 Survivor Series Predictions

November 23, 2008 marks the traditional Survivor Series Pay-Per-View! With Survivor Series we have two major titles on the line, 3 traditional Survivor Series matches, the return of John Cena to his hometown, and a Casket match featuring two of WWE's biggest competitors. Two other things to keep in mind are that MVP is still on a losing streak, and Vladimir Kozlov is undefeated. Both men's streaks may figure into the outcomes of their Survivor Series matches.

Here's match by match analysis and previews for 2008 Survivor Series:

Raw Divas (Beth Phoenix, Mickie James, Kelly Kelly, Candice Michelle & Jillian Hall) vs. Smackdown Divas (Michelle McCool, Maria, Maryse, Natalya & Victoria)
Traditional Survivor Series Match

In the first of three traditional Survivor Series elimination matches, we get the lovely WWE divas. The sexy WWE divas will represent their respective brands here, possibly fighting for diva supremacy. It's a mix of heels and faces as well, so whether they can co-exist or not becomes the big question. These matches are really a toss up, with no real storyline looming, yet. Costumes might have made a nice touch here though. Could we see the Bella twins Brianna & Nicole play some part in the match, after their latest internet celebrity success? It would have been interesting if Brie had been added to the Smackdown divas. Since this match really seems up in the air, let's pick Michelle McCool and Maria to wind up winning it for Smackdown. Beth Phoenix being soul survivor wouldn't be far-fetched either though.

Prediction: Michelle McCool & Maria are the final divas, giving Smackdown divas the win.

Team Batista (Kofi Kingston, CM Punk, Matt Hardy, R-Truth) vs. Team Orton (Cody Rhodes, Shelton Benjamin, William Regal, Mark Henry)
Traditional Survivor Series Match

The stats say that Orton has been the sole survivor in Survivor Series events two straight times. Will that continue? He's got the stacked team with the US Champ and IC Champ plus the World's Strongest Man. On ECW, Matt Striker demonstrated how we may see a 5 on 1 vs. Batista, but 4 on 1 or 3 on 1 also apply. It likely comes down to Batista vs. Orton, with the Animal able to pull off a victory, and inspire further the Orton vs. Batista feud. Of course we could get one of those, drag-em-out, knock down fights between the two all the way to the backstage, eliminating both men.

Prediction: Batista is the final competitor left standing, possibly overcoming a 4 on 1 or 3 on 1 situation.

Team HBK (Shawn Michaels, Rey Mysterio, Cryme Tyme & Great Khali) vs. Team JBL (JBL, Miz & Morrison, MVP, Kane)
Traditional Survivor Series Match

HBK heads up a team consisting of Cryme Tyme, Rey Mysterio & Great Khali. JBL captains the squad of The Miz, John Morrison, MVP & Kane. Smart money here is on Team JBL, with MVP somehow being on the winning team to finally snap his losing streak. JBL gets a cheap elimination of helps eliminate HBK to continue their feud. Rey Mysterio & Kane, as well as Cryme Tyme vs. Miz/Morrison all will take each other out, as it doesn't seem they will be amongst those remaining.

Prediction: JBL & MVP are the final two competitors standing.

Undertaker vs. Big Show
Casket Match

This is Undertaker's match, plain and simple. Sooner or later this feud needs to be buried, and Survivor Series will be the place for that, making a Casket match quite appropriate. Questions already surfacing: How will Undertaker move such a massive body into a casket? Will Big Show even fit in a Casket? Taker's been able to overcome all sorts of punishment and pain in his career, and this will once again prove he is the Phenom as he seals Big Show into the casket.

Prediction: The Undertaker excels in his match, rolling Big Show into a Casket, en route to taking Vickie Guerrero's soul next.

Jeff Hardy vs. Vladimir Kozlov vs. Triple H
WWE Title Match

WWE wanted this match at Cyber Sunday, but the fans preferred a one-on-one battle, hoping Hardy might respond. Hardy didn't win the WWE title, but was finally able to defeat the Game on Smackdown to set up the Triple Threat. Keep in mind, Vladimir Kozlov is undefeated still. The Triple Threat makes it possible for Kozlov to not actually be pinned, and Triple H to retain the title here. A Kozlov tiitle win would definitely be a great story shift for Smackdown as well, but most likely Jeff Hardy knocks Kozlov out of the ring, then gets a Pedigree from Triple H.

Prediction: Kozlov is knocked from the ring or rendered unconscious somehow, allowing Triple H to make the pinfall on Jeff Hardy.

John Cena vs. Chris Jericho
World Heavyweight Title Match

Is the wool being pulled over our eyes here? It just seems too good to be true for Cena. He's returning from injury, in his hometown of Boston, MA, to face the champ Chris Jericho for the title. Cena has the hype, but realistically Jericho has the momentum. You could easily argue that Cena will be hungry, but rusty. For that reason, Chris Jericho will stay true to his word and retain the title. It will set up possibly a Fatal Fourway for the next PPV involving Orton, Batista, Jericho and Cena, or maybe even the Elimination Chamber.

Prediction: John Cena makes a grand return to Boston, MA, but Jericho spoils it by finding a way to retain the title.
