Smackdown GM Vickie Guerrero came out to start the program as she wished everyone a Happy New Year. Vickie also announced that Jeff Hardy will defend the WWE title against Edge at the 2009 Royal Rumble. Vickie announced that later on the 2009 Royal Rumble participants from Smackdown will be revealed.

Triple H came out next, demanding to know if he'd be a part of the Rumble. Vickie told him he'd have to wait just like everyone else. Triple H began to make fun of Vickie's weight and finally the GM was frustrated and blurted out that Triple H will be in the Royal Rumble. The Game pulled out a Vickie Guerrero action figure and removed its shirt to show the figure has a strangely skinny body. Triple H added in that there are nude pics of Vickie on eBay that were bid on by someone named ChavoG2009. Triple H said the auction ends in just 5 minutes. Vickie was shocked by the info and stormed backstage.

Backstage, Finlay, Hornswoggle, Great Khali and Ranjn Singh were all shown as part of a WWE photoshoot.

Finlay & Great Khali vs. Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder

Finlay & Khali had seperate entrances with Hornswoggle scurrying under the ring. Khali & Hornswoggle hit a comedic dobule-headbutt on Ryder & Hawkins while the ref was distracted by Finlay. Hornswoggle took off to hide back under the ring. Finlay & Khali won when Khali hit the Khali Slam. After the match, Finlay, Khali & Hornswoggle all hit their various finishers on the opponents.

Winners: Finlay & The Great Khali win via pinfall over Ryder & Hawkins.

Backstage WWE Diva Eve Torres interviewed former Divas champ, Michelle McCool. Michelle said that Maria was jealous of her success so she intentionally cost her the Divas Championship last week.

Edge, Vickie & Big Show were shown talking backstage. Edge told them it was so embarassing having nude pics of his wife up on eBay. Big Show mentioned he saw the pics. Edge got angry then got in Show's face reminding him it was his wife he was talking about. Edge told Show it's also embarassing to lose to a flyweight (Floyd Mayweather) at WrestleMania 24. Show stood up and Edge and he started at one another intently. Edge finally left the scene as Big Show smirked for inciting him.

Jesse & Festus vs. The Brian Kendrick & Ezekiel Jackson

During the match, Festus seemed to hurt his knee as he caught Brian Kendrick who flew at him off the top rope. Jesse quickly rushed in after a tag. Ezekiel Jackson was able to over power Jesse and hit the "Don't-Call-It-The-Rock-Bottom" to pin him. No word on Festus' injury as to whether it was serious or part of the show.

Winners: The Brian Kendrick & Ezekiel Jackson win via pinfall over Jesse & Festus.

Hurricane Helms vs. Vladimir Kozlov

Once again Vladimir Kozlov displayed his dominance over the competition of Smackdown. This time he thwarted Helms' continued return by hitting a Spinebuster on him for the victory.

Winner: Vladimir Kozlov wins via pinfall over Hurricane Helms.

An advertisement was shown to promote Mr.Kennedy's Behind Enemy Lines Colombia which arrives on DVD this Tuesday.

Smackdown commentator Jim Ross got into the ring to announce the SmackDown Rumble participants for 2009. The 2009 Rumble participants will be Triple H, Big Show, Vladimir Kozlov, Shelton Benjamin...Suddenly, Shelton Benjamin interrupted the announcement and told JR to leave the ring. Shelton said he's been the US Champion for over 6 months now and in 2009 he will finally realize his dream of being in the main event at WrestleMania. Shelton said there won't be anyone in the Rumble who is capable of stopping him. All of a sudden, Undertaker's voice was heard saying "I think you forgot someone". The arena lights went dark, and then Undertaker came out from under the ring. When the lights came back Undertaker was behind Shelton and delivered a Chokeslam on him.

A promotional video played for Kizarny to announced his Smackdown debut tonight.

WWE Diva Michelle McCool made her way down to the ring. Michelle started out by seeming to be sorry for what she did to Maria last week after the Divas Championship match. Michelle called Eve Torres to the ring and apologized to her. Eve seemed to forgive Michelle for whatever she did, then the two divas hugged. Eve tried to leave, but just as she stepped off the stairs, Michelle jumped out of the ring to attack her. Michelle clocked Eve in the back of her head with the microphone, then threw her into the barricade wall and kicked her.

Triple H confronted Vickie and Chavo Guerrero backstage, and Vickie demanded an apology from him. Since HHH made more fat jokes, Vickie ordered that next week he'll compete in three matches on Smackdown: a Tables Match, a Handicap match and a Last Man Standing match.

Kizarny vs MVP

MVP acted cocky again asking that they just bring out whoever it was he's fighting tonight, as if he was ready to lose again. His opponent was Kizarny, making his Smackdown debut. Kizarny used several arm drags and a running dive through the ropes to take out MVP. MVP seemed to be getting more cheers, as the longer the match went on there were boos directed at Kizarny. Finally, MVP went for The Playmaker, but Kizarny was able to reverse it into a double underhook DDT with his legs wrapped around MVP's waist. Kizarny turned the maneuver into a pin for his debut victory.

Following the match Mr. Kennedy came out again and told MVP that he just got "wh-izz-ooped".

Winner: Kizarny wins via pinfall over MVP.

A promotional ad for the 2009 Royal Rumble was shown.

It was also announced that on Smackdown next week Carlito & Primo will defend the WWE tag team titles versus The Brian Kendrick & Ezekiel Jackson.

Matt & Jeff Hardy vs. Edge & Big Show

Prior to the contest, Edge got on the mic and vowed to be a 7-time World Champ once he wins at the Royal Rumble. Edge also reminded the WWE Universe that a year ago people thought Edge and Vickie wouldn't last but they are still together. Edge also added that he was blamed for attacking Jeff Hardy before Survivor Series, but that people are forgetting the fact that Jeff is a screwup. Matt & Jeff each made their separate entrances and the main event was underway.

During the first part of the match Edge was hit with all sorts of Hardy double team moves. For a while though Matt was dominated and unable to make the tag to Jeff. Edge went for a tag to the Big Show, but Show ignored it and walked out on him. Edge was left all alone and Matt finally made the tag to Jeff. Jeff & Matt hit "Poetry in Motion". Next up it was Twist of Fate by Matt on Edge, then Jeff's Swanton Bomb for the win. The Big Show never returned for the match. Matt & Jeff posed with their championship belts to close out Smackdown.

Winners: Matt & Jeff Hardy win via pinfall over Edge & The Big Show.
