ECW Recap 06.16.09

ECW Recap from Roanoke, VA:

Matt Striker and Josh Matthews welcomed fans to the show weeks ahead of the Bash Pay-Per-View. Tonight, Jack Swagger takes on Tommy Dreamer in a non-title bout to try to earn a title match at The Bash. The Hart Dynasty arrived to the ring to start the show.

Christian vs. DH Smith

Highlights were shown of last week's match where Christian was forced to team up with Jack Swagger against the Hart Dynasty. Swagger yanked Christian down against the ropes allowing the Harts to take advantage and beat him. After the loss, Swagger and the Harts attacked Christian while he was down. Tommy Dreamer rushed to the ring to make the save.

In tonight's singles matchup it was the bigger DH Smith taking on the quick ring-veteran Christian. Natalya and Tyson Kidd watched their Hart Dynasty member from ringside. At one point in the match, Smith grabbed Christian on the apron and slammed him down to the floor hard. Smith tried to wear Christian down in the ring with submissions. Christian got to his feet fighting back, but Smith eventually used a long standing suplex. Christian managed to gain momentum though and with Smith knocked outside the ring, Christian ran and jumped off the inner ropes to fly out onto Smith. ECW went to break.

ECW returned with the two men back in the ring and Smith in control again. The two fought on the corner turnbuckle with Christian shoving Smith away then hitting the missile dropkick on him for a pin attempt. Christian hit the flying uppercut off the corner but again failed to make the 3 count. Christian tried all sorts of moves including a sleeper hold, with Smith reversing it to a running powerslam. The two continued their fight until Natalya ran interference on the side causing the ref to look away. As Christian climbed the corner, Kidd got on the apron and pulled Christian down against the ropes. With Christian stunned, Smith grabbed him and hit a lethal slam to win it.

Winner: David Hart Smith wins via pinfall over Christian.

After the match had ended, the Hart Dynasty prepared to take out Christian further. Finlay made a surprise return to the run to the ring and clear the Harts out. With the Harts up the ramp, Finlay turned and then clocked Christian on the head with his shilaleigh, then turned him face down on the mat before leaving. Striker and Matthews had no clue why Finlay did what he did.

Striker and Matthews revisited last week's incident which saw Mark Henry attack Evan Bourne in the ring after his match against Tony Atlas. Henry and Bourne where shown walking backstage on their way to the next match.

Again the incident involving the Hart Dynasty trying to attack Christian was shown, with Finlay making the save. Backstage, Gregory Helms asked Finlay why he knocked out Christian in the ring. Finlay said it was retaliation for weeks ago when Finlay tried to break up the Christian Dreamer fight in the locker room.

Evan Bourne vs. Mark Henry

Bourne came to the ring with his ribs still taped from last week's attack by Henry. Bourne had a 2-0 record against Henry going into tonight's match. Bourne escaped a Henry splash attempt but just didn't have enough to finish off the World's Strongest Man. Despite a valiant effort, when Bourne jumped on Henry's back late in the match, Henry flipped Bourne frontways for the World's Strongest Slam.

Henry prepared to leave the ring, then hesitated and turned back. Henry picked up Bourne and walked around the ring with him before hitting another World's Strongest Slam.

Winner: Mark Henry wins via pinfall over Evan Bourne.

The Raw Rebound covered last night's Raw 3-for-all episode. Included on the show were the shocking news that Vince McMahon sold Monday Night Raw to Donald Trump. Trump said his first act as new owner he will present Raw commercial-free next week. Meanwhile, Randy Orton won back the WWE Title in a Fatal Fourway, and later a 10-man Battle Royal was held to determine Randy Orton's opponent at the Bash. It came down to just Cena and HHH, with HHH able to win it. Trump came onto the big screen and announced that the two men will fight for the WWE Title next week on Raw in a Last Man Standing match. Next week, Trump will appear live on Raw as well.

Backstage, Gregory Helms interviewed Jack Swagger. Swagger said he hopes Dreamer's fans have enjoyed his brief moment as the champion, because soon Swagger will be taking back the title.

Tommy Dreamer vs. Jack Swagger

Early on Dreamer had control and at one point he had Swagger knocked outside the ring. Dreamer went to the side apron and tried to jump off onto Swagger, but Swagger caught him and powerslammed him fast to the outside. ECW went to commercial.

When ECW returned, Swagger was dominating Dreamer in the ring, berating him in the corner of the ring. Dreamer got up and started punching back at Swagger then whipped him to the corner. Dreamer tried to get a bulldog on Swagger, but Jack shoved him off then stretched him into a submission hold.

Dreamer whipped Swagger corner to corner and finally connected on a Bulldog, before hitting the swinging neckbreaker. Dreamer had the pinfall but Swagger kicked out at 2. Swagger went for the Gutwrench Powerbomb late in the match, but Dreamer escaped it and was able to eventually try for a pin. With Swagger down on the mat, Dreamer climbed to the top turnbuckle and tried to jump for a double knee onto Swagger. Swagger rolled out of the way, then quickly rolled up Dreamer to win the match.

As Swagger celebrated, Finlay came rushing down to the ring with his shilaleigh. Swagger exited the ring fast, and Finlay turned to bash Dreamer in the skull with the shilaleigh. Christian rushed to the ring and took down Finlay to start beating on him. The two rolled around fighting and Swagger got back into the ring. Swagger started to beat up Christian and tossed him from the ring. As Swagger turned back, Finlay clocked him with the shilaleigh as well, leaving everyone layed out as ECW ended.

Winner: Jack Swagger wins via pinfall over Tommy Dreamer to earn an ECW Title Match.
