Smackdown Preview 06.12.09

The Extreme Rules 2009 Pay-Per-View produced not one, not two but three champions in one night. The problem is that one of the champions held the belt for only a matter of minutes before losing it as Extreme Rules closed. That former champion was Jeff Hardy, who faced Edge in a grueling Ladder match, the main event of Extreme Rules. Hardy managed to finally get Edge tangled up in the ladder, preventing Edge from knocking him off the rungs. From there, Jeff was able to climb to the top, unhook the World Heavyweight title belt and become the new champ. However, CM Punk decided it was time to cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase at that prime opportunity. Punk headed to the ring and battled a depleted Jeff Hardy, eventually hoisting up Jeff in the GTS and then pinning him. CM Punk has now cashed in twice in back to back years to become World Heavyweight Champion, and he will head into tonight's show as the reigning champ. What will Jeff Hardy and Edge have to say regarding Punk's title win and reign? Who will the first challenger be for his gold?

With all that said, former champion Edge recently showed up on Raw, still angered over losing his title at Extreme Rules. During the event, Edge had suggested that Vickie needed a good divorce lawyer. On Raw, when his wife Vickie Guerrero announced her resignation from the General Manager spot, Edge promptly showed up to the ring. Edge informed Vickie that all along he'd been with her because she had power, but now since she has none, he no longer needed her. Edge told Vickie he was divorcing her, leaving his former wife and former Raw GM in shambles in the ring. What sort of impact will this have on Edge as he appears on Smackdown? Will the Rated-R Superstar find himself in a foul mood and will he take it out on other superstars?

And finally, the feud between Chris Jericho and Rey Mysterio saw a climactic moment at Extreme Rules. For weeks, Jericho had insulted Mysterio calling him a coward who hides behind a mask. Jericho not only promised to take away Rey's Intercontinental title, but also to unmask his opponent. Both of these promises came true at the Extreme Rules PPV, when Jericho continually tried to pull Mysterio's mask off. At one point Mysterio missed on a 619 attempt, and Jericho yanked the mask off, shocking Mysterio. The incident distracted Rey as he was surprised and Jericho managed to pin him, becoming a 9-time Intercontinental champion. With the cocky Jericho once again holding onto WWE gold, what will he have to say for himself on Smackdown? And will Mysterio be able to show his face again?

Find out all the answers to the above questions on WWE Smackdown, Friday nights at 8PM EST on MyNetworkTV!
