Raw Revelations: Batista & Vickie Hurting
Last night's Raw saw two superstars from the brand hurt in different ways. It's brand new WWE Champion Batista, was not even able to celebrate his victory for a night after Extreme Rules when he was attacked severely by Randy Orton and Legacy. The attack was on Batista's left arm, which was repeatedly bent, stomped on and eventually "snapped" by WWE in a rather graphic, PG moment. All of that led to the Animal being escorted backstage and onto a stretcher, then into an ambulance. It was clear the grown man was in pain when he told one of the staff "that strap's too tight, loosen it". Anyways, the news released during Extreme Rules was that Batista would be undergoing surgery for a torn muscle today (Tuesday). If that was the case why was the WWE title even moved? It may be to set up a future title fight between HHH and Batista, but still there's other ways to go about it then giving Batista a 1 week reign as champ.
There's definitely some inconsistencies with the stories that go on with Raw, and that's nothing new. One week, John Cena is able to rush to the ring to the aid of Batista when he's being attacked by Legacy. The next, Cena's at the arena but not interested in saving the Animal from a severe injury. Strange but true. That's not to say Cena's the only superstar who could have come to Batista's aid, but it's a discrepancy.
According to the UK's website, The Sun, Vickie Guerrero is leaving WWE to spend more time with her true "familia" in real life. She cited her reasons on Raw as the fact the fans were hurting her and insulting her, and she had enough. To add insult to injury, Edge appeared from backstage and came to the ring to tell Vickie he never truly loved her and wanted a divorce. Talk about your bad luck coming in 3's, Vickie was slopped and pinned in a Hog Pen, decided to leave Raw, and then notified of a divorce. Wonder if her car or house will be repossessed next...
Does it seem like the moving of the various titles to Raw is causing some slip-ups? Last night on Raw, Lillian Garcia introduced Kofi Kingston as Intercontinental Champion and he gave her a funny look. Also during the evening, Michael Cole referred to Maryse as Womens Champion and Mickie James had to correct him. Let's rehearse better guys, or keep the titles on one particular brand to avoid confusion..
The big highlight of the show was of course Triple H's surprise return from the back of an ambulance with sledgehammer in hand. He heroically interrupted Randy Orton's attempt to win the WWE title by forefeit, meaning somehow (with no clear Raw GM) they will be scheduled to fight over the WWE Title next week on the 3-hour Raw. That Raw will also include the other brand's new champions, Tommy Dreamer and CM Punk defending their titles as well..
And that brings us to the title pictures..I recall a time when guys like Hulk Hogan or Honky Tonk man held onto the belts for some time...it really annoyed me as a fan that they were able to elude losses to some of my favorite wrestlers, but now I appreciate that more, because back then the titles were prestigious. These days the titles are moved two or three times in a month or even the same night. Not to diminish CM Punk's title victory, but wouldn't it have been interesting if he cashed in before the ladder match began and made it a Triple Threat then won a grueling match?
