Smackdown Preview 08.07.09

Tonight, former World Heavyweight Champion, CM Punk, gets to use his rematch clause to face the current champion, Jeff Hardy. Jeff will be having his second straight title defense on Smackdown, following last week's incredible matchup against John Morrison. In that match, Hardy and Morrison put on quite a show, with each man putting their body on the line, hitting all sorts of moves. Morrison went for a spinning corkscrew kick move late in the match from the ropes, but Jeff managed to get his legs up to block it. From there, it was textbook Jeff Hardy as he hit a Twist of Fate, and a second Swanton Bomb off the corner to finally pin Morrison. Jeff celebrated his win, and adversary CM Punk came to the ring, pretending to congratulate him on the win. Right as CM Punk started to speak on the mic, he quickly smashed the microphone over Hardy's head, knocking him down. From there, Punk dismantled Hardy in and around the ring, beating on him unmercifully. Punk tossed Jeff across the commentators' table before getting on the mic to tell everyone to watch him win back his title on Smackdown. Will Punk back up his promises made on the mic with a title win? Will Jeff Hardy have enough left in the tank to successfully defend the belt?

Last week also saw the Hart Dynasty clash with Cryme Tyme in a match with important Summerslam consequences. The winners of that match would get a Summerslam title match for the Unified Tag Team titles against Chris Jericho and the Big Show. In the match, Cryme Tyme was able to come out on top, defeating the newer tag team of the Harts. Just as Cryme Tyme was celebrating in the ring after their victory, they were interrupted by Big Show and Chris Jericho on the ramp. Jericho basically called Cryme Tyme a joke and again talked up himself and Big Show's accomplishments. Cryme Tyme reminded them of the clash they had on Raw, with Shaq getting the last laugh. Both teams have vowed to leave Summerslam as the new Unifed Tag Team champions, but only one team will. Will these teams cross paths on the coming episodes of Smackdown?

One other feud which still needs to be settled is the battle of the behemoths. The Big Red Machine Kane has been causing problems for Great Khali for weeks now, ever since interrupting his No DQ match at a Pay-Per-View. Khali and Kane have showed up at one another's matches, with Kane the latest to appear from under the ring. Khali has chased Kane into the crowd several times, and the two monstrous wrestlers still have yet to settle their latest grudge in the ring. Will these two set up a match on tonight's episode or will the mayhem between them continue?
