WWE Superstars Recap 10.15.09

Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler were on hand for the start of the show, with Cole announcing that the main event would be Intercontinental Champ John Morrison versus CM Punk. The World's Strongest Man came out to start the show for the Team Raw Qualifying match. Cole reviewed the current members of Team Raw: Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Kofi Kingston, Cody Rhodes, Big Show and Jack Swagger.

Mark Henry vs. Chris Masters
Team Raw Qualifying Match

Both men locked up, with Masters shoving Henry on the first, but Henry knocking him down to take control on their second lockup. Masters soon slid out under the ropes to recover, favoring his left arm. Masters got back in and Henry soon leveled him for a pin attempt. Henry started squeezing on Master's shoulder areas to wear him down. Masters struggled to get to the ropes with Henry dragging him away. Masters finally got a leg onto the bottom rope, then got under it to the apron. Henry came over to grab him, with Masters yanking him across the top rope. Masters tried to go under Henry and pull his legs for a pin, but Henry held position, then did a sit splash. Masters went to the outside yet again.

Henry went to the outside to put Masters on his shoulder to drive him to the post. Masters slid off and shoved Henry into the post as Superstars took a break. The show returned with Masters in a Bear Hug in the ring. Henry rammed him into the corner, but Masters dropkicked him in the hurt knee to take him down. Masters with several more moves including a chop from off the corner. He had a near fall then went for the Masterlock. Masters couldn't get around Henry's arms for it, so he took the big man down again and worked on his leg. Masters tried for a Figure four but Henry kicked him away then started clotheslining him down. Henry went for Worlds Strongest Slam once, but his knee buckled. Masters went against the ropes and tried for a flying bodypress, but Henry caught him and quickly did Worlds Strongest Slam to win it.

Winner: Mark Henry wins via pinfall over Chris Masters to earn the final spot on Team Raw at Bragging Rights.

A new "Ask the Divas" segment was shown featuring Natalya, Bella Twins, Michelle McCool, Jillian, Katie Lea, Eve, Maria and Kelly Kelly. Questions included "Who would you want as your tag partner in a mixed tag match" and "What music gets you pumped up in the gym?" Katie Lea said she doesn't go to the gym because it bores her. Michelle McCool said she would want Kane as her tag team partner.

Vladimir Kozlov & Ezekiel Jackson were shown walking out backstage on their way for the next match.




A promotional video was shown to advertise that Wrestlemania 26 tickets go on sale in 23 days.

Tommy Dreamer vs. Vladimir Kozlov

Kozlov used an early hip toss to throw Dreamer down, then backed him to the corner. The ref pulled Kozlov away, and Dreamer started his attack. Kozlov charged at Dreamer opposite corner, but was met with an elbow. Despite that he quickly knocked Dreamer down with a clothesline. Dreamer taunted the Moscow Mauler near the ropes, so he charged at Tommy who held the top rope down. With Kozlov out of the ring and Jackson near him, Dreamer did a running slide kick into both men. Dreamer tried to jump off the apron at Kozlov but he simply batted Dreamer into the announcers table. Kozlov sent Dreamer back in and the ref started checking on Dreamer who had hurt his arm. Kozlov targeted that arm repeatedly as the ref warned him.

Dreamer eventually had a small package, but Kozlov again damaged his arm with a face first slam move. At one point, Dreamer managed to avoid a charging Kozlov in the corner, so Vlad hit shoulder first on the post. Dreamer did a running knee to his face, then jumped off the middle ropes to clothesline Kozlov. Dreamer went for a pinfall but Kozlov kicked out. Dreamer started to punch away on Kozlov in the corner, then got dumped over the ropes. He landed feet first on the apron and rammed Kozlov in the gut. Dreamer climbed the corner with the ref checking on Kozlov. Jackson interfered by yanking Dreamer's hurt arm. This allowed Kozlov to knock Dreamer down, pull him into the ring and hit his slam finisher move. Jackson did his similar finisher for more punishment on Dreamer.

Winner: Vladimir Kozlov wins via pinfall over Tommy Dreamer.




WWE Superstars returned with a promotional highlight video of the All American American, Jack Swagger. Swagger promised several weeks ago to go undefeated for the rest of 2009.

Todd Grisham was on hand for commentary for the main event. First he introduced footage to cover the Randy Orton & John Cena rivalry that has lead to their 60 minute anything goes Iron Man match for the WWE Title at Bragging Rights.

Todd Grisham was joined by United States Champion, The Miz for commentary on the main event.

John Morrison vs. CM Punk

Miz continued to talk up his accomplishment of winning the US title and said Morrison is a wannabe rock star. Miz said CM Punk at least knows who he is, a Straight-edge wrestler. Miz talked about how he taught Morrison everything he knows.

Morrison had an early take down on Punk for a near fall. He turned that into a side headlock, but Punk got to his feet and pushed Morrison to the ropes. Morrison returned to the side headlock again. Morirson stayed in control by hitting a Flapjack then a standing Shooting Starpess. Morrison once again put a headlock on, but this time Punk slammed him back to the mat to break it up.

Punk hit a powerslam on Morrison after taking a boot in the face from him at the corner. He eventually knocked Morrison to the outside right before Superstars took a break. Superstars returned with Punk squeezing his legs around Morrison's midsection in the ring. During break, Punk dropped Morrison onto the steel steps gut first. Morrison tried for an elbow drop on Punk who got his knees up to stay in control. After Punk tossed Morrison up in the air to drop onto the mat, Punk did a baseball slide dropkick to kick Morrison to the outside. Punk tried to suplex Morrison back into the ring from the apron, with Morrison landing on his feet to rollup Punk for the nearfall.

Punk caught Morrison in the gut for another near fall. From there, CM started up a submission hold targeting JMo's shoulder area. Miz promoted the return of the Dirt Sheet on Smackdown Friday, just as Punk missed a charge on Morrison in the corner. Morrison started to punch away at Punk and finally got him down several times. Morrison had a near fall again, still holding his gut from earlier damage. Morrison ducked a Punk kick to hit his own spin kick. Punk countered a suplex attempt for his own face first suplex on Morrison. Punk hit his running knee in the corner on Morrison, but was shoved off the bulldog. Morrison kneed Punk for a near fall.

Morrison slammed Punk near the corner and went to go for Starship Pain. Punk got up and shoved Morrison as he tried to flip from the top rope. With Morrison seated up there, Punk climbed from behind to attack. Morrison fought him off then was ready to go again, but Miz quickly slid into the ring and kicked Punk. The ref called for the bell as Miz escaped the ring. Punk won the match via DQ, with Miz taunting Morrison from the ramp. Morrison did a springboard mule kick on Punk from the ropes. The show closed with Miz up on the ramp watching Morrison pose in the ring.

Winner: CM Punk wins due to disqualification of John Morrison.
