WWE Extreme Rules 2010 predictions
This Sunday April 25th comes the second annual installment of WWE's newly titled "Extreme Rules" Pay-Per-View. The latest event which will be on PPV from the 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore, Maryland starts around 8PM EST. There will be updated results being presented here at WWE Characters the Blog until 11PM EST when the PPV ends. All of the matches involve various stipulations or special rules including a "Last Man Standing match", "Street Fight" and classic steel cage match. Also remember that on Monday night we may very well see several of the wrestlers involved in this event change shows between Raw or Smackdown. Since we have a day or so until the event goes down, it's time for the WWE Extreme Rules 2010 predictions.
Also, feel free to comment below with your own predictions or speculations, but please keep them short and simple!
Triple H vs. Sheamus
The only way I can see Sheamus possibly losing this one is if Kofi Kingston gets involved. Otherwise, Sheamus needs the win and the push to keep him amongst the top heels. There's no reason to have him keep losing over and over to HHH. I have a feeling Sheamus may be headed to Smackdown following the PPV in the WWE Draft, so a win will be a good push for him there. Steel pipe beats sledgehammer in this one.
Prediction: Sheamus wins the street fight over HHH.
Rey Mysterio vs. CM Punk
Many members of the WWE Universe want to see Punk get shaved bald. They've teased it so much in the past week, but I think that was the point. Just like Sheamus, they can't keep having Punk lose if he's going to be an effective heel. We all know Rey Mysterio's one of the top superstars in WWE, but Punk will get the win here and keep his hair, for now. They may find a way to shave him anyways.
Prediction: CM Punk wins with help from the Society, or some other mischief involved.
Beth Phoenix vs. Michelle McCool
This was the latest of the matches added to the card, and the rules are unclear. They did use an ironing board and some lipstick during LayCool's attack on Beth in the ring, so it's probably like a Street fight for women? Not trying to be sexist, but they seem to be going that way. Anyhow, it seems that Michelle has effectively dodged The Glamazon enough on Smackdown, but now it's time for Phoenix to regain the Womens title. She'll withstand the outside efforts of Layla and Vickie to capture the belt.
Prediction: Beth Phoenix wins the WWE Womens Title.
Edge vs. Jericho
Why bring back Edge, have him win the Royal Rumble, then lose to Jericho at Mania? Better yet, why would they have Edge continue to lose to Jericho? I don't see him losing here and the ankle is just to show us how tough Edge is with an injury to deal with. Some have speculated that Edge will Spear Jericho through the cage wall and that's how Jericho wins. That's a possibility, but I see Edge winning inside the cage, after a Spear.
Prediction: Edge wins via pinfall over Jericho in the cage.
JTG vs. Shad
They had one of these matches last year, although it was CM Punk fighting the late Umaga. Shad's been carrying a strap around on his way to matches and gave JTG a beatdown with it this past Friday on Smackdown. That would make you think JTG gets the retribution. I think Shad wins and begins his push. He can likely be amongst the title contenders on Raw or Smackdown, and may be drafted to Raw after Extreme Rules. The object is to touch all four ring corners consecutively before your opponent can. The only real X-factor that JTG's got on his side is he's the quick guy, whereas Shad is just the big dude who will flatten you. I say Shad flattens JTG.
Prediction: Shad wins the strap match against JTG.
Randy Orton vs. Jack Swagger
Still trying to figure out the difference between an "Extreme Rules" match and a "Street Fight". In this one, anything's legal. I've considered the idea that Ted Dibiase may interfere, although Orton may have killed the whole Legacy feud at WM26. They've made Swagger lose twice in a row now, to Undertaker and Morrison, both by pinfalls after their finisher. Orton has defeated Swagger by pinfall twice. Either WWE is trying to make Swagger look like the worst World Heavyweight champion ever, or he pulls out the big win here. Orton and Swagger may both wind up on Smackdown with the upcoming draft to continue this feud.
Prediction: Jack Swagger wins to retain the World Heavyweight title.
Batista vs John Cena
If someone has good reasons to bet against Cena here, feel free to comment below. Unless WWE has a huge swerve in store or Cena has some movie work to do, he wins here to retain the title. He may even lock on the STF and make Batista pass out to win it, just to add insult to injury.
Prediction: John Cena wins the Last Man Standing match to retain his title.
