Raw Recap 05.10.10

Raw Recap from Pittsburgh, PA:

Raw opened with highlights from last week, when Edge hosted "The Cutting Edge". He provided an explanation of why he speared Orton during the #1 Contender match last week. Edge said he made a comeback on Smackdown and had a plan to go after Swagger and the World title. Edge said once he got drafted to Raw, his plan was upended, so he had to create a new one. He said he went after Orton and became the most talked about superstar on any brand. Guest host Wayne Brady came to the ring to experience what it's like to hype the crowd up. After he did his bit, Randy Orton hit the ring and RKO'd him. He went towards Edge, with Edge trying to convince him they need to unite again as Rated RKO. Orton wasn't having it. Edge ended up knocking Orton down in the corner, then went for the Spear. Orton surprised him with the RKO to close out Raw last week.

The Viper Randy Orton arrived out to start off this week's Raw. Lawler and Cole discussed how Orton is set to meet Edge at Over the Limit PPV in Detroit. Orton said he didn't accept Edge's offer last week, because he knows Edge sees him as a threat and just wants to keep him under control. Just as Orton was talking, a song started up and singer MeatLoaf came to the ring. Meatloaf said he had to come to the ring without introduction because he has a new album coming out tomorrow and has a song on it just for Orton. He said it was written by Jon Bon Jovi. Orton said he'd let him hum some of the new song. However, Meatloaf kept going on and on about it with Orton getting visibly upset. Finally, Orton had enough and RKO'd Meatloaf down.

Edge arrived out next onto the ramp. He asked Orton why he doesn't like celebs after assaulting Wayne Brady, Meatloaf, Seth Green or Freddie Prinze Jr. Edge said he complained to the WWE head office, and that they tweeted him back that from here on out the guest hosts will have no authority. Edge said that wasn't enough though, because he thinks the show needs a permanent GM, someone with experience and authority. Edge said the WWE brass agreed. Edge introduced the new permanent manager of Monday Night Raw, Vickie Guerrero. Vickie came out doing her "excuse me" screeching several times despite being loudly booed.

Vickie said despite her former relationship with Edge, she will be a true professional. She said the WWE does not condone attacking celebrities, so Orton will be reprimanded. Orton told her to come to the ring and reprimand him to his face. Vickie said tonight Orton will take on Edge and a partner of his choice in a 2-on-1 handicap match. Edge told Orton he'll see how he deals with threats.

Chris Jericho and The Miz were shown in discussion backstage. Cole said Jericho's in action next.

Members of the Pittsburgh Steelers were shown in the crowd. Cole and Lawler reviewed Orton delivering the RKO on Meatloaf at the start of the show. Cole said they confirmed that Vickie Guerrero is the permanent new GM of Raw.

DH Smith vs. Chris Jericho

If Jericho wins this match, he and The Miz will get a Unified Tag team title shot at Over the Limit. They showed last week how Hart Dynasty defeated Regal and Kozlov, but afterwords The Miz and Jericho attacked DH Smith.

Natalya accompanied Smith to the ring. Miz and Kidd were not at ringside. Cole and Lawler said that Miz will face Tyson Kidd later in the show. If Kidd wins, Miz will have to defend the US title against a Hart Dynasty member on next week's Raw.

In the closing moments of this match, Smith locked a Sharpshooter on Jericho. Jericho tried to crawl towards the ropes and eventually got to them to break it. Smith pushed the ref aside and Jericho raked Smith in the eye with the ref not seeing it. Jericho caught the stunned Smith with a Codebreaker from there to win it. Miz was shown backstage watching the match grinning.

Winner: Chris Jericho wins via pinfall over DH Smith. Jericho and The Miz will get a Unified Tag Team title shot at Over the Limit PPV.

Edge was shown backstage talking with Batista. Cole suggested maybe Edge is trying to recruit The Animal for his match against Orton. Lawler said John Cena will announced the Over the Limit stipulation tonight on Raw.

R-Truth vs. William Regal

Truth arrived to the ring with special guest host Flavor Flav. Flav added in some "Yeah boy's" along with Truth's rap entrance song. Flav spent some time in the ring hyping up the crowd before finally letting the match start.

The match was barely underway when Primo and Carlito hit the ring and knocked down R-Truth. After Primo hit a dropkick on him, Carlito did the Backstabber to take him down. Flavor Flav was briefly at the commentators table then said he wanted to go check on his boy.

Ted Dibiase arrived out to the top of the ramp and shook hands with Carlito and Primo. He handed each guy an envelope, probably a payoff, then looked down towards the ring at R-Truth.

Winner: R-Truth wins due to disqualification over William Regal when the Colons attacked Truth.

Raw returned with highlights of Divas Champion Eve Torres. Then they showed footage from earlier today, where Maryse was training with a karate or martial arts instructor in the ring so she could fight with Eve Torres. The instructor told Maryse she needs to try harder. Maryse took exception to that then slapped the guy in the face and kicked him hard in the leg, causing him to hit the mat.

Randy Orton was shown backstage in the locker room when Josh Matthews came in to interview him. He asked if Orton's concerned about who Edge selects about a partner in a handicap match. Orton said he's not concerned, but he'd like Vickie Guerrero to come to ringside for the match, so tonight can be a night she'll never forget.

An ad was shown for next week's Raw which will be "Out of this World". It will be hosted by former astronaut Buzz Aldrin and will be commercial free.

WWE Divas Alicia Fox and Gail Kim were seated at ringside for Zack Ryder's match. Ryder got on the mic and told them he's glad they came out again to support him. Ryder told Alicia she was looking exceptionally good tonight. Ryder told the Pittsburgh fans the last event they'll see before the arena is destroyed, is Ryder's first Raw victory.

Evan Bourne vs. Zack Ryder

In the late moments of the match, Ryder had control as he tried to smash Bourne face first to the turnbuckle. Bourne blocked it though, then avoided Ryder on a charge. Bourne did a running double knee to the jaw on Ryder then set up for Air Bourne. Alicia Fox jumped up on the apron to try to interfere, but Gail Kim came over and yanked her down. Alicia hit chin first on the apron, and Bourne connected on Air Bourne. He escorted Gail up the ramp after the victory. Alicia went over to check on Ryder.

Winner: Evan Bourne wins via pinfall over Zack Ryder.

They reviewed Cena defeating Wade Barrett in the Beat the Clock Challenge last week. Cena was about to announce his chosen stipulation for the WWE Title match against Batista at OTL PPV. Sheamus hit the ring and knocked Cena down to the mat before he could say what it was. Tonight, Cena will reveal the stipulation.

John Cena arrived to the ring to greet the Pittsburgh fans. Lawler and Cole noted that the Igloo will soon be tore down and a new stadium will be used so this is a moment they'll never forget. Cena said he wants to take this moment to thank Sheamus, because he gave him a week to think about the type of match he wants at Over the Limit. Cena said maybe Batista was right. Cena said he beat him at Last Man Standing in an intellectual way rather than using physicality. Cena said some saw it as an act of cowardice.

Cena said he's been called a lot of things, but is not a coward. Cena said tonight he'll prove it. Cena said he could be a coward and choose a stipulation for Batista to be blindfolded or handcuffed. Cena said he's got a fair and competitive match in mind, that will be very brutal. Cena said it will be the last time he faces Batista over the title too. Cena said if he loses to Batista at OTL, he'll forfeit his rematch clause. Cena said in 2 weeks the WWE Title match at OTL will be an "I Quit" match. Cena said he owes all this to Sheamus and would really like to thank him in person. He called out "the human jar of mayonaise".

Sheamus made his way out to the ramp after a few moments. Sheamus told Cena if he comes to the ring he'll leave him in no condition to compete at OTL. Sheamus asked Cena if he really wants him to come down there. Cena removed his shirt and then said he'd take his chances. Sheamus said that move will cost him his WWE Title. Sheamus began to make his way to the ring, and suddenly Batista rushed into the ring to attack. Cena tried to fight both guys off, but it was to no avail. Sheamus and Batista each got a piece of Cena. Batista beat Cena up outside the ring, ramming him into the pole. He tossed Cena back in to the ring to take a pump kick from Sheamus.

Batista got back in the ring and prepared for a Batista Bomb, but Mark Henry came charging down to the ring. He withstood Batista's attack, and was able to knock him out of the ring, then went to help Cena up.

Backstage, Vickie was texting someone when Edge walked in and said things are all set for his tag match against Orton. Edge said he wanted to make sure things were clear. He said last time he was on Raw, he said some mean things about her, but it was to get sympathy from the fans. He said it didn't work. Vickie said they could still be friends though. Edge suggested that Vickie be at ringside for tonight's match, but she said no way because Orton creeps her out. Vickie asked Edge to guarantee nothing will happen to her tonight. Edge suggested that Vickie can just fire Orton on the spot if he goes after her. Edge said tonight she can show everyone will see Vickie is not to be intimidated. Edge said also she can see the look on Orton's face when he's beat.

Tyson Kidd vs. The Miz

If Tyson Kidd can beat The Miz in this match, he gets a shot at the United States Title on next week's Raw from Canada. Miz landed several kicks on Kidd including one to send him out through the ropes. On Kidd's way back in from the apron, he was able to ram Miz in the gut, then jumped over the top rope with a unique Sunset Flip pinfall for a quick surprise win. Kidd rolled out of the ring and went to celebrate with DH Smith and Natalya on the ramp. Natalya had to adjust her top to avoid a "wardrobe malfunction."

Miz got on the mic and said if he lost the stipulation was he got to choose which member of the Harts he defends the US Title against. Miz said it won't be Kidd or Smith, and said as much as Natalya wants to wrestle around with him, it won't be her either. Miz said next week he chooses to defend the US title in Canada against Bret "The Hitman" Hart.

Winner: Tyson Kidd wins via pinfall against The Miz. The Miz chooses to defend his US Title against Bret Hart next week on Raw.

Josh Matthews caught up with Batista backstage. He asked about his upcoming match against Mark Henry. Batista asked if Josh heard he has an I Quit match against Cena at Over the Limit. Josh said yes. Batista said he won't make Cena say "I Quit" he'll make him scream it. He said to watch what happens to Mark Henry for proof.

WWE NXT's 8 rookies were shown in the ring. Cole said it's their last opportunity before the big vote determines the first elimination for tomorrow night.

John Morrison, Goldust, Santino Marella & Yoshi Tatsu vs. The WWE NXT Rookies

It was an 8 on 4 tag match featuring the NXT rookies against four Raw pros. Justin Gabriel gained the upperhand on Yoshi Tatsu with several takedowns, but David Otunga slapped Gabriel's back to get in on the action. He was able to continue beating down Yoshi for a near fall.

Otunga and Yoshi both made tags out, with Slater coming in to take a beating from John Morrison. Michael Tarver tried to get in the ring but Morrison grabbed him and threw him into Darren Young on the apron, so both guys hit the floor. Morrison prepared for a Starship Pain but Skip Sheffield came over on the apron to distract. Morrison went for it, but got double knees in the gut from Slater.

It ended up with Daniel Bryan tagging in and facing Santino Marella. He managed to roll Santino up for a small package pinfall to win it. Cole was surprised Daniel Bryan actually won. The NXT rookies hoisted Bryan up as the hero.

Winner: The NXT Rookies defeat John Morrison, Goldust, Santino Marella and Yoshi Tatsu via pinfall.

Flavor Flav was backstage with the Bella Twins hanging all over him asking him to explain his new show. He said it's like Twilight Zone and Tales from the Crypt. Nikki and Brea "oohed" and "ahhed" over it. Vladimir Kozlov and Santino came walking in arguing in their languages. Flav told them to speak English and asked what was up. Santino said he thinks he and Kozlov would make a good tag team, but Kozlov said Santino always loses. William Regal came in to collect Vladimir Kozlov. Flav said he thinks Santino should get to tell Kozlov what's up. Regal called Flav "ridiculous" so Flav and Santino joked that Regal can't even rap. Kozlov told him to "Bust a move" so Regal took the spotlight and did a poem about "Straight outta Blackpool". After he was done, Flav laughed at him and said "Yeah boy!" before everyone left Regal backstage.

Michael Cole and Lawler were back on camera with Cole saying "Vintage, Vintage" and then throwing in some "Yeah boy's". They discussed the matches announced so far for Over the Limit, including Big Show vs Swagger, Cena vs Batista, and Miz/Jericho vs Hart Dynasty for the Unified Tag titles.

Batista arrived to the ring with the spotlight on him. He sat in a steel chair in the ring to wait through a commercial break for the next match.

Mark Henry vs. Batista

Mark Henry looked puzzled as he got to the ring, because Batista was still seated in a chair. Henry started to get into the ring through the ropes, but The Animal got up and quickly attacked. With Henry down on the mat, Batista took the steel chair to bash repeatedly on Henry. He began to smash it repeatedly into Henry's shoulder, then locked a submission hold on Henry to stretch his arms back. Batista yelled to ask how Henry likes being vicious now. Mark Henry eventually passed out from it.

The ref tried to pull Batista off but had no luck. Another ref came in to help out. He finally released the hold with both refs clearing out of the ring. A trainer came in to check on Henry, with Batista trying to intimidate him. Batista kicked at Henry a few times saying "he's alright, he'll be ok". The Animal left the ring to stare at the fans near the ramp.

Winner: No contest, match never officially started.

Cole discussed with Lawler how what Batista just did will be completely legal at Over the Limit in an "I Quit" match. They discussed how chaotic Raw has been, including MeatLoaf getting RKO'd earlier in the night. Orton was shown walking backstage en route to the ring for the main event handicap match.

Edge & Mystery Partner vs. Randy Orton

Orton arrived to the ring first. Edge came out next with Vickie at the top of the ramp. Justin Roberts announced his tag team partner, Ted Dibiase. Dibiase arrived out to the ramp wearing the Million Dollar belt. Cole and Lawler talked about Dibiase inheriting a big trust fund upon either turning 30 years old or having his first Wrestlemania, which he did this past year.

Edge and Dibiase worked effectively early on to keep Orton under control. At one point, he smashed Dibiase down with a clothesline, but Edge had made a blind tag to Dibiase's back. Edge grabbed Orton for the faceplant. Vickie Guerrero was shown seated at ringside to enjoy the beatdown. Dibiase put a chinlock on Orton to try to wear him down, but Orton got to his feet and fought out of it. He caught Dibiase with a series of clotheslines, then elbowed Edge out of the ring. Orton caught Dibiase with a powerslam. Edge tried to get back up on the apron, with Orton knocking him off, causing Edge to hit the commentators' table.

With Edge knocked to the outside, Orton went for the RKO on Dibiase. Dibiase shoved him off but Orton came back to toss Dibaise out over the ropes to the floor. As Dibiase was recovering outside the ring, R-Truth came rushing down. Dibiase dove back into the ring, where Orton connected with the RKO to win it.

Winner: Randy Orton wins via pinfall over Ted Dibiase & Edge to win the 2-on-1 Handicap match.

With the ref checking on Dibiase, Orton slowly turned to start eying Vickie Guerrero at ringside. Vickie yelled at Edge to get up and looked horrified in her chair. Orton dropped to the mat and started his stalking moves, staring Vickie down. Vickie screamed for Edge, then grabbed a mic and screamed EDGE! and told Orton "Don't do it, I'm warning you!" Orton kept inching closer to her on the outside. Finally Vickie lost it and yelled "Alright, I resign!" Edge tried to attack Orton from behind, but Orton turned and caught him with the RKO to leave him flat on the floor. Raw ended with Orton staring out from the ring at Edge who was comatose on the outside floor.
