Smackdown Recap 05.28.10

Smackdown Recap from Cleveland, OH:

Smackdown opened with a promotional video to announce The Undertaker's return to Friday night Smackdown.

Smackdown General Manager Theodore Long was introduced and came down to the ring to start the show off. In the ring, Teddy did some of his dance moves before speaking. Long discussed the upcoming Fatal 4-Way PPV, coming in four weeks. Teddy said World Heavyweight champion Jack Swagger will defend the title in a Fatal Fourway match at the PPV. Long added that Big Show automatically qualifies due to Jack Swagger's DQ at Over the Limit. Teddy said for the other spots, CM Punk will face Kane for an opportunity, and Rey Mysterio will face The Undertaker for the other spot.

Teddy said the Fatal 4-Way will be a momentous PPV- just then Drew McIntyre's theme song came on and the former IC champ came to the ring. Striker reviewed what happened to Drew McIntyre at OTL when Matt Hardy attacked him post-match. In the ring, Drew got on the mic and said he should still be the IC champ right now. Drew said his arm was lacerated during his match with Kofi at OTL, and Teddy allowed the match to go on. Drew said since Teddy can't do his job right, he'll have to do it for him. Teddy said Drew had no right to trash his office Sunday. Drew yelled that he's the chosen one.

Teddy started to talk about when Matt Hardy gets his hands on McIntyre. Drew produced a letter from Mr. McMahon, which Teddy had to read aloud. The note said as a result of Hardy's actions post-match at OTL, Matt Hardy will be suspended without pay until further notice - signed Vincent Kennedy McMahon. Drew told Teddy to consider this a warning not to turn a blind eye to his misfortunes again or he'll get a termination letter. Matt Hardy's theme music came on and Matt began to start towards the ring. Teddy walked up to him to stop him. He had security back him up, pleading with Hardy to please leave or he'd be forced to fire him. Hardy kept staring down at Drew McIntyre. Drew got on the mic and told him he's the reason Matt is suspended, smirking. Hardy was furious as he went backstage.

Kofi Kingston & Big Show vs. Drew McIntyre & Jack Swagger

Swagger came out with a bruised left eye and bandaged ribs. Swagger had a mic in hand for his entrance. He repeated "And still World Heavyweight Champion...Jack, Swagger" multiple times on his way down the ramp and as he climbed the ring steps.

The heels worked to doubleteam Kofi throughout the early part of the match. At one point, Swagger tossed Kofi against the corner. Swagger charged but got a foot to the face. Kofi jumped from the corner to take out Swagger. Both guys struggled to make a tag. Swagger made it, and Drew rushed in, then tried to clothesline Kofi. Kofi rolled underneath it and tagged in Show. Big Show came in growling and hit a huge splash on Drew in the corner. He went over to knock Swagger off the apron. As he turned, Drew kicked him in the knee, then tried for the Future Shock DDT. McIntyre couldn't grasp around Show for the move, so Show threw him down. He got Drew to his feet and looked out at Swagger. Show let out a huge roar, then hit the KO punch to knockout Drew for the pin. Show kept looking out at Swagger.

Winners: Big Show & Kofi Kingston win via pinfall over Jack Swagger & Drew McIntyre.

Luke Gallows and Serena were backstage with CM Punk in a locker room. Punk had his back to the camera with a towel over his head. Punk was worried about how he looks now that he's bald, saying the fans are going to mock him. Punk then said he's better than them and he doesn't care if they mock him. Punk said he's courageous unlike them. He vowed to go out and rip the towel off his head so they can see the true face of CM Punk. He stood up and the StraightEdge crew started walking with him.

Vickie Guerrero was backstage and started yelling at Vance Archer and Curt Hawkins in Espanol. The only recognizable English words were "15 days" but Vickie seemed unhappy. Curt said 15 days is plenty of time and not to worry, the fans will pay attention. Vickie told them to get lost. As she was cooling down, Dolph Ziggler came in and Vickie was all smiles. Vickie thanked Dolph for sticking up for her at last week's Peep Show. Dolph said it was no big deal. Vickie reminded him that she's the official consultant of Smackdown. Dolph started to speak, but Vickie put her finger on his lips.

Vickie told Dolph that because she owes him a favor, he's in an enviable position. Dolph started getting flustered saying he couldn't stand to see that little troll and Christian out there insulting her. Vickie said as a token of her appreciation she set up a match for him. Dolph will team up with Chavo to take on Christian and Hornswoggle. She added for Dolph there's more where that came from as he walked off. The camera zoomed in on Vickie's necklace which said "Cougar".

Straight Edge Society came out from backstage with Punk wearing a towel over his head. Punk was about to turn and head backstage several times, but Gallows and Serena encouraged their leader to continue down the ramp. Punk waited for several moments before finally yanking the towel off in the ring. Punk was now wearing a black SES mask, Rey Mysterio style. His beard was still sticking out, but no sign of the bald SES leader.

Kane vs. CM Punk
World Title Fatal Fourway qualifying match #1

Striker and Grisham reviewed still shot images from OTL when Rey Mysterio got to shave Punk's head. Serena and the mystery hooded SES member helped Punk backstage from OTL.

CM Punk jumped off the corner at Kane but caught a shot to the head. Kane started to dominate from there, but Punk kicked out of multiple pinfalls. Kane seemed to tweak his leg on one jump. He prepared for a Chokeslam with Punk escaping it. Kane grabbed him to toss Punk through the ropes. Punk tried to grab hold of the rope but his grasp slipped and he fell against the apron, then to the floor. Back in the ring, Punk jumped off the corner for a flying splash bodypress pin. Kane rolled through but Punk escaped his pin attempt. Kane went for the Chokeslam, but Punk escaped it. Punk tried to get Kane up for the GTS, but he was too heavy.

Kane grabbed hold of Punk's black mask to try to pull it off. Kane nearly had it off, but Serena jumped up on the apron to distract the ref. Since Kane was working on Punk near the ropes, Luke Gallows came over and punched Kane through the ropes. That move allowed Punk to finally get Kane up for the GTS. After recovering on the mat for a few moments, Punk crawled over for the pinfall win.

Winner: CM Punk wins via pinfall over Kane to qualify for the World Title Fatal 4-Way match.

So far in the Fatal 4-Way match for the World Title are Jack Swagger, Big Show, CM Punk and one more superstar to be determined (Undertaker or Rey Mysterio).

Hornswoggle & Christian vs. Dolph Ziggler & Chavo Guerrero

Vickie Guerrero accompanied her nephew Chavo Guerrero to the ring. Vickie stood by ringside to watch the matchup.

Hornswoggle got in early after Christian took control of Chavo. Swoggle had a bunch of kick attacks, before he rushed at Chavo and ate a boot to the face. Chavo began the mocking and taunting. He put a foot on Hornswoggle's face and stomped around. Chavo slammed Swoggle near the corner then tagged in Dolph Ziggler who kept up the antics with Hornswoggle. Ziggler put Hornswoggle up in the corner, then cockily backed up to charge.

Swoggle got out of the way, and Dolph hit face first. Hornswoggle ran under Dolph's legs then made a tag to Christian. Christian came in to take control against Chavo. Christian hit the forearm off the corner, and prepared for Killswitch, but Chavo backed him to a corner to punch away. Christian had a pinfall after a missile dropkick but Dolph was over to break things up. Hornswoggle got into the action kicking away on Dolph's legs. Dolph tossed him out of the ring under the bottom rope. Christian ran over to clothesline Ziggler out. Chavo suplexed Christian then went for a Frogsplash, but Christian avoided it. Chavo rolled to land safely but as he went for Christian he was countered by the Killswitch.

Dolph Ziggler rushed in after the bell and locked a sleeper hold on Christian. Christian fell to the mat and had no help other than the ref who broke it up. Vickie smiled approvingly from ringside as Ziggler's theme music hit.

Winners: Christian & Hornswoggle win via pinfall over Chavo Guerrero and Dolph Ziggler.

Grisham and Striker announced that Drew McIntyre gets a rematch for the Intercontinental Title next week against Kofi Kingston.

Josh Matthews was backstage to interview the co-Womens Champions Michelle McCool and Layla. They told Josh Matthews "buh-bye" and then started talking to each other. Michelle gave the fans a history lesson said that the Womens title is the oldest title in WWE history. They said the title is now "flawless". They explained why they both have a title belt, because it was a two-on-one handicap match. They continued on with their annoying talk saying "jealousy is an ugly disease, get well soon!"

MVP vs. Luke Gallows

MVP walked over to the announcers table prior to the match, grabbed some hand chalk and did the trademark Lebron James hand clap to leave a cloud of powder in the air.

MVP hit a flying shoulder block from the corner and began to knock Gallows down late in the match. With MVP gaining momentum he hit a facebuster on Gallows to drop him, then did the Ballin' Elbow drop. He waited for Gallows to stand up, but Gallows rolled to the outside. MVP jumped off the side apron to take down Gallows, then tossed him back inside. MVP got up on the corner for a high risk move. Serena did another distraction deal from the apron causing the ref to turn away. Suddenly, the hooded mystery man came out and grabbed MVP on the apron. He DDT'd MVP into the apron and left him there for Gallows. The ref turned as Gallows got MVP and hit the Gallows Pole on him.

Winner: Luke Gallows wins via pinfall over MVP.

Striker and Grisham talked about last seeing Undertaker at Wrestlemania. They talked about Batista quitting on Raw. The Raw Rebound showed the incidents involving Batista quitting WWE due to injuries sustained at Over the Limit by Cena in their match. Bret Hart was announced as new GM for Raw. He came to the ring offering Batista a chance for a spot in the Fatal 4-Way WWE Title match. Batista would go against Orton to qualify. Since Batista refused, Orton automatically qualified. After that Batista told the WWE Universe he'd had enough and quit.

Grisham and Striker discussed how the WWE Title Fatal 4-Way match is set: John Cena defends against Randy Orton, Sheamus and Edge. Meanwhile, Smackdown will have Jack Swagger defending against Big Show, CM Punk and one more guy - either Rey Mysterio or Undertaker.

Time for Rey Mysterio's big entrance for the final qualifying match. He came out to a crowd ovation and stopped along the ramp to put his head to several young fans wearing Mysterio masks. Smackdown went to commercial with Rey in the ring getting himself ready.

Rey Mysterio vs. The Undertaker
WOrld Title Fatal 4-Way Qualifying match #2

Rey managed to ground Taker at the start, but not for long as Taker knocked mysterio down, then suplexed him gut first onto the top rope. Rey recovered on the apron. Taker ran at Rey with a kick, but Rey moved and Undertaker got stuck on the ropes. Rey managed to dropkick Taker into the crowd barrier, enraging the Deadman. Taker chased Rey in and out of the ring. Rey got in quick and then used the ropes to jump out onto Taker. Smackdown took a commercial break as Taker was down on the outside.

After commercial, Undertaker had the Chokeslam set up, but Rey escaped. He went for a Last Ride but Rey jumped off. He managed to knock Taker against the ropes, but as Rey went for 619, Undertaker got a boot in his face. The fight moved to the outside where Undertaker rammed Rey into the ringpost multiple times to cause damage.

In the closing moments, Taker was in control and dominating Mysterio. He worked his arm injury repeatedly. Taker tried to pick Rey up, but Mysterio sat on his shoulders, punched on him then sent Taker into the corner. Mysterio hit a Hurricanrana from the top rope, then a dropkick when Taker was seated on the mat. Undertaker did his classic sit-up, but Mysterio did a springboard jump off the top rope to take him down for the pinfall. Taker stood up, but Rey kicked him in the leg. Undertaker fell against the ropes and Rey hit 619. Rey went for the big Splash off the top rope. As he landed Rey put a hand around his throat and went for a Chokeslam. Rey kept fighting though. Finally at one point, Rey did a Springboard flip from the ropes at Taker. Undertaker caught him in the air and hit the Tombstone Piledriver for the win.

Smackdown closed with The Undertaker kneeling in the ring in a dark arena as his theme music played on.

Winner: The Undertaker wins via pinfall over Rey Mysterio to qualify for the Fatal 4-Way World Title match.
