WWE Superstars recap 05.20.10

Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler were on hand from Raw for the open of Superstar. Cole said it's just 3 nights until Over the Limit.

Santino Marella vs. Vladimir Kozlov

Santino got a big reception from the crowd including a "San-tino" chant, before he got on the mic. Santino said he's seen a change in Kozlov ever since he started professing his desire to be his partner. Santino said even though Regal is trying to control Vlad, it doesn't mean they can't be friends, just like Rocky and Ivan Drago are. Santino said they have speed and power in common, they both came from over the ocean. Santino said he will put down the mic and the bell will ring. Santino said then they can either fight it out, or they can leave the ring together to mark the beginning of the best tag team in the universe.

The bell rang and Santino cowered a bit, but Kozlov didn't strike him. Santino put a hand on Kozlov's chest, and Kozlov angrily looked at it. Next, Kozlov grabbed both Santino's arms and did the repeated chest head butt. He followed up with his slam finisher for the quick win.

Winner: Vladimir Kozlov wins via pinfall over Santino Marella.

Tonight's main event is Christian against Dolph Ziggler from Smackdown.

Goldust vs. William Regal

At one point, halfway through the matchup, Goldust was bloodied up. The ref paused the match as WWE personnel checked on Goldust to make sure he was able to continue fighting. Finally he was able to go after some cleanup was done. Regal continued to go after Goldust's left arm, but the Bizarre one retaliated. After a big uppercut, he knocked Regal down. Regal charged at him in the corner, but Goldust avoided him then hammered away. He followed with a scoop powerslam and a running bulldog for a near fall. Regal made a comeback and threw Goldust over his back. Regal went for the knee trembler, but Goldust avoided it then hit an inverted DDT to plant Regal face first into the mat for the pinfall win.

Winner: Goldust wins via pinfall over William Regal.

Cole said they are now down to just 4 rookies on WWE NXT. He said the latest elimination, Darren Young, left gracefully, unlike a certain other individual. They showed highlights from Tuesday night's show, where Michael Tarver and Daniel Bryan were asked about their elimination by WWE management. Daniel Bryan went off on Michael Cole, eventually attacking him outside the ring. He called Cole a poor man's replacement for JR, then shoved him down and got a few kicks in. WWE refs finally pulled Bryan away.

Cody Rhodes vs. Chris Masters

During a commercial break, Rhodes managed to throw Masters shoulder first into the ringpost. Rhodes continued to exploit that injury and had several near falls. Matt Striker continued to talk up Cody Rhodes as one of the top new superstars on Smackdown. Rhodes continued to lock in an arm hold to work on Masters' hurt shoulder.

Masters regained momentum after a stiff clothesline. He had a near fall and waited for Rhodes to get up. Masters tried to lock in the Masterlock, but Rhodes got his leg over to the bottom rope to break it. From there he held onto Masters' arm and DDT'd him into the mat. Next up was the Cross Rhodes to finish Masters off.

Winner: Cody Rhodes wins via pinfall over Chris Masters.

They rolled out the video package to highlight the upcoming Batista vs Cena Over the Limit match, an I Quit match for the WWE Title. Batista was shown angrily talking about how Cena won the Last Man Standing match with duct tape. Cena later agreed that maybe Batista was right as were his critics who said winning that way wasn't the right way. Cena said at OTL there will be no easy way out, in the I Quit Match.

Todd Grisham and Matt Striker ran down the lineup of scheduled matches for Sunday's Over the Limit PPV including Cena vs Batista, Miz/Jericho vs Hart Dynasty and Jack Swagger vs Big Show.

Christian vs. Dolph Ziggler

In the early going, Ziggler pounded away on Christian on the mat. Christian tried to whip Ziggler from the ropes, but Ziggler held onto the top rope. From there, Ziggler picked up Christian and tossed him over the ropes. Christian hit the floor hard and was recovering as Superstars went to commercial break.

The match returned with Ziggler's legs locked around Christian's torso in the ring. Christian fought out of it though and began to punch away on Ziggler down on the mat. Ziggler regained control and used a leg drop on the back of his head to get a near fall. He began ferociously choking Christian against the ropes.

Christian started to build momentum with a flapjack move and then a missile dropkick off the corner for the near fall. Striker noted that Christian must be in some serious pain, maybe with cracked ribs. Christian snapped Ziggler against the top ropes, then climbed up the corner. Christian with a flying body press for the pin, but Ziggler rolled through to almost steal the pin. From there, Ziggler managed to slap a sleeper hold on, but Christian backed him into the corner. The match continued, with Christian going for the Sunset Flip pinfall, but Ziggler again used his own pinfall.

In the closing moments, Ziggler's Zig Zag was blocked by Christian. He climbed to the corner for a flying European uppercut, then hit the Killswitch for the pinfall win.

Winner: Christian wins via pinfall over Dolph Ziggler.
