Christian Loses World Heavyweight Championship Fast

Within a matter of days, Christian went from sky high as World Heavyweight Champion, to down in the dumps, without the belt. The recent loss of the championship makes one question the value of the title and Christian's relevance to the company.

Christian won the title at last Sunday's Extreme Rules 2011 Pay-Per-View after defeating Alberto Del Rio in a ladder match. Just two days later (or five based on TV schedule), Christian lost in a main event match on Smackdown to "The Viper" Randy Orton. Just like an RKO, not many fans saw Christian's title loss coming, at least that quickly.

It looked like a "passing of the torch" as Edge was on hand to celebrate Christian's championship win at Extreme Rules. There was a championship celebration on Friday's Smackdown. That celebration was interrupted by Mark Henry and Great Khali, two guys who really have no business being part of the championship picture at this point. Randy Orton arrived out, and after Teddy Long polled the crowd, Orton was granted a title match. You'd think Alberto Del Rio might show up on Smackdown like he used to show up on Raw. Even Brodus Clay may have made sense to request the title shot.

What doesn't make sense is why the title was moved in this fashion and why Del Rio didn't win it. Does the WWE have little sense of direction for a heel like Del Rio? Is his time not right? It seemed as if a Wrestlemania 27 championship win would have been perfect for Del Rio, but of course Edge was retiring and deserved one last Wrestlemania moment.

Christian winning the title was a great moment in the history of WWE, maybe even one fans would've never expected to see. Having him drop the title live two days later was also unexpected. If anything, the WWE creative team failed in terms of a good angle to get the belt from Edge to surrendered to Christian to Orton.

The quick move of the title from Christian to Orton devalues both the championship and Christian. Of course now Christian will be referred to as "Former World Champion" but will they include a footnote of "for less than a week?"

Now Orton will likely bring the title into the Over the Limit 2011 Pay-Per-View, but who will he face? Will Christian get a rematch? Will it be Mark Henry? Sheamus? Who will be the viable heel to step up at this point?
