2013 WWE Payback Results for PPV Matches (Updated)

2013 WWE Payback Results

The Payback Kickoff show opened from Chicago with Damien Sandow's theme music hitting.  Sandow made his way to the ring for the free live stream match.  Josh Matthews was hosting a panel which also had Big Show, R-Truth and Cody Rhodes.  A shot from earlier today showed fans waiting outside the arena for the Pay-Per-View.  JBL, Jerry Lawler and Michael Cole were on commentary for the opening match.  They reviewed what happened 2 weeks ago when Sandow was having a challenge on chess against a computer in the ring.  Sheamus came to the ring and beat the computer with one move: a Brogue Kick. Sandow reacted by beating down Sheamus in the ring.

Sheamus vs. Damien Sandow

Sheamus nearly hit his pound on the chest on the apron move, but Sandow got to the outside, where he managed to sucker Sheamus in and threw him into the ring post.  Sandow had a near fall back in the ring before settling in on a headlock.  Sandow got up on the corner, with Sheamus retaliating and tossing him down to the mat for a near fall of his own.  Sandow responded with a drop toe hold into the ropes and then a side Russian leg sweep, followed by an Elbow of Disdain.  It wasn't enough for the pin though.

The close of this one saw Sheamus hit multiple Irish Curse backbreakers late, drawing some noticeably loud boos from the crowd.  Sheamus set up for the Brogue Kick and delivered it once Sandow was up, which was good enough for the winning pinfall.

Winner: Sheamus wins via pinfall over Damien Sandow.

The Miz vs. Curtis Axel vs. Wade Barrett
Intercontinental Title Triple Threat

Late in this match, The Miz tried for a figure four on the champion. Curtis Axel blocked it but Miz was able to re-apply the hold. Heyman yelled at Axel to go in the ring, so he slid in there and pinned Barrett down before the champ tapped out. With that, Axel was able to score the victory and pick up the Intercontinental title.

Post-match, Axel celebrated with Heyman, as Miz was dazed and confused over what just occurred. Axel did a salute to his father by looking up towards the ceiling.

Winner: Curtis Axel won via pinfall to become new Intercontinental Champion.

A.J. Lee vs. Kaitlyn
WWE Divas Title match

During this one, Kaitlyn let her anger get the best of her as she tried to keep inflicting more punishment on AJ instead of making a pinfall cover.  AJ ultimately was able to lock the Black Widow on Kaitlyn. Kaitlyn struggled not to submit, but eventually fell to the mat, with AJ winning via submission.  Post-match, Kaitlyn left the ring upset at what happened, then fell to the ramp crying.  Layla came down the ramp to comfort the former champ.  Later, they showed divas backstage trying to console Kaitlyn after the loss.

Winner: AJ wins via submission over Kaitlyn to become new Divas champion.

Kane vs. Dean AmbroseUnited States Championship

During this title contest, Ambrose tried to get fancy and walk up on the ropes like Undertaker.  Kane blocked it and knocked him out of the ring to the outside.  On the floor outside, Ambrose slapped Kane in the face, and laughed about it, so Kane slapped him back.  Kane started to clear off the Spanish commentator's table for a big move.  Ambrose took advantage and DDT'd Kane into the floor.  As the ref counted it got up to 7 and Ambrose slid into the ring, eventually winning the match and keeping his title.

Winner: Dean Ambrose won via countout against Kane to retain the US Title.

Alberto Del Rio vs. Dolph Ziggler
World Heavyweight Title match

Late in this heavyweight title fight, Del Rio was getting booed by the crowd as he pounded away on the champ.  Later still, he posed in the corner, which allowed Ziggler to hit him with the Zig Zag.  Unfortunately for Dolph, he was too hurt to make a pinfall cover.  Ziggler stood up, but Del RIo was able to deliver a shot to his head, causing Ziggler to go down.  Del Rio made the cover, scoring a 3 count for the win.

Winner: Alberto Del Rio won via pinfall over Dolph Ziggler to become new World Heavyweight Champion.

CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho

In a match that lasted over 20 minutes, Punk made his triumphant comeback to the ring in his hometown of Chicago.  Near the conclusion, Jericho managed to get the Walls of Jericho on, with Punk nearly tapping out.  Punk tried to get out of it, with Jericho turning it into a half Boston Crab.  Punk managed to escape, but Jericho put on an Anklelock.  Punk punched his way out of that, then slapped Jericho in the back several times.  Moments later, Punk managed to get the GTS on Jericho.  Jericho bounced back towards the corner, and then Punk hit yet another GTS to get the pinfall victory.

Post match, Heyman checked on Punk in the ring, with Punk making a comment to him.  Eventually, Heyman applauded Punk's win, with Punk leaving the ring on his own.

Winner: CM Punk won via pinfall over Chris Jericho.

Daniel Bryan & Randy Orton vs. Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns
WWE Tag Team Title match

Late in this contest, Daniel Bryan managed to clear the members of Shield to the outside.  He wanted to hit his suicide dive, but Rollins and Reigns moved away, causing Bryan to crash onto Orton instead.  The Shield guys tried to work over Bryan with Orton down on the outside.  Bryan retaliated and was able to hit a huge body slam from the top rope for a near fall.

Orton managed to get back into the ring to try to help his new tag team partner.  Bryan got speared by Reigns.  A brawl broke out, and Rollins hit a running boot to Bryan's head, then took the pinfall for the win.  Post-match, Shield celebrated their win.  Orton walked away, upset at how the match ended, while Bryan still appeared hurt, recovering on the outside.

Winners: The Shield won via pinfall over Daniel Bryan & Randy Orton to retain the WWE Tag titles.

Ryback vs. John Cena
3 Stages of Hell WWE Title match

Stage one was the Lumberjack match.  Late in this first part of "3 stages of Hell," Ryback pressed Cena over head and tossed him out onto lumberjacks.  Cena got beat up a bit, then tossed back into the ring.  Ryback got knocked out of the ring and shoved Cesaro, then other lumberjacks started on Ryabck.  Cena jumped out onto Lumberjacks and Ryback.  The two competitors get rolled back into the ring.  Towards the end of stage one, Cena put Ryback into the STF.  However, Ryback got out of the STF hold and then hit Shellshocked on Cena for the pin.  Ryback wins stage one, to go up 1-0 on Cena.

In the second stage, a Tables match, Ryback blocked the Attitude Adjustment and hit a spine buster.  He hit the Meathook clothesline and then brought another table into the ring to use.  Ryback set the table up and tried to hit his finisher.  Cena blocked the move, then got him up for an AA to smash Ryback through the table.  Cena won the second stage to tie things up.

The third stage was the ambulance match.  Late in this stage, the two fought near the ambulance, with Ryback slamming Cena into the side of it.  Cena recovered to whip Ryback into an open door, causing it to go off the hinges.  He grabbed the door to ram into Ryback's head.  Cena tried to put Ryback into the front seat, but Ryback fought out with a headbutt, then tossed Cena onto the hood of the ambulance.  Ryback tore part of the front of the ambulance off to hit Cena with.  Ryback then tried to Powerbomb Cena on the hood, but Cena backdropped him onto the hood instead.

The fought eventually went to the top of the ambulance.  Ryback grabbed a crutch to bring up as a weapon, but Cena took it away, then bent it over Ryback's back.  Soon after, Cena hit the AA on Ryback causing him to crash through the roof and land in the back of the ambulance, giving Cena the victory.  Cena wins stage 3 and is still your WWE Champion.

Winner: John Cena wins 2 out of 3 falls over Ryback to retain the WWE Title.
