2013 WWE Battleground PPV Results Coverage

Welcome to WWE Battleground results coverage for the first of two October pay-per-view events from the WWE.  The Battleground event will take place at Buffalo, New York's First Niagara Center on Sunday, October 6.  It all will start with a special live streaming "Kickoff Show" featuring Dolph Ziggler vs. Damien Sandow at 7:30 p.m. EST on YouTube, Facebook and WWE's website.  At 8 p.m. EST, the main PPV goes live featuring the vacated WWE title on the line between Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan, as well as a match for Cody Rhodes and Goldust to try to regain their jobs with WWE.  Below you'll find full match-by-match results for Sunday night's Battleground PPV.

WWE Battleground Live Stream Kickoff Match:

Dolph Ziggler defeated Damien Sandow via pinfall.  Sandow took control of this one right before a kickoff show commercial break, as he sent Ziggler to the outside.  Sandow continued to stay in control when the match was rejoined, until Ziggler managed to get a huge kick landed on Sandow's arm, dropping him near the ropes.  Ziggler pulled himself up near the corner, then avoided a charging Sandow.  He followed up with a huge clothesline and splash on Sandow in the corner, then punched away on him with the crowd counting.  Ziggler hit a huge neck breaker at the middle of the ring, then went for Zig Zag, but Sandow avoided it, before dropping Ziggler for a near fall.  The two competitors continued to trade moves and near falls.  The close of the match saw Ziggler kick Sandow in the back of his leg, then hit the quick Zig Zag for the pinfall win.

2013 WWE Battleground PPV Results:

Rob Van Dam vs. Alberto Del Rio (c) for World Heavyweight Title (Hardcore Match)

Alberto Del Rio won via submission over Rob Van Dam to retain the World Heavyweight Championship.  The close saw Del Rio hit a drop toehold to send RVD face first into the chair, then he super kicked RVD through it.  Del Rio yanked on RVD's arm, then kicked his shoulder inside the chair.  He followed that damage by putting on the cross arm breaker with RVD's arm through the chair, making RVD tap.  Post-match, Del Rio celebrated the tough win, while the announcers talked about Sandow not cashing in MITB due to his knee injury from the earlier match.

Santino Marella & Great Khali vs. The Real Americans

The Real Americans defeated Great Khali and Santino Marella via pinfall.  Late in this one, Khali hit a huge chop on Cesaro.  Khali went for the pinfall, but Swagger came in to break it up.  Cesaro would later hit the Big Swing on Khali, spinning Khali around at least ten times before dropping him to the mat.  He immediately made the pinfall cover to win the match.

R-Truth vs. Curtis Axel (c) for Intercontinental Championship

Curtis Axel defeated R-Truth via pinfall to retain the Intercontinental Championship.  Paul Heyman was ringside during the match which lasted just under 8 minutes total.  The close saw Truth hit a pancake suplex but Axel kicked out of the pinfall attempt after it.  Truth went for a finisher, but Axel was able to counter and hit the spinning face buster finishing move.  He pinned Truth clean, then celebrated the win post match.

Brie Bella vs. AJ Lee (c) for WWE Divas Championship

AJ Lee defeated Brie Bella via pinfall to retain the Divas championship.  Brie made a late match comeback as her sister Nikki watched from ringside.  Tamina Snuka was also ringside for AJ.  At one point, Tamina attacked Nikki, which distracted Brie in the ring.  AJ took advantage and grabbed a roll up pin on Brie from behind to win it.

Cody Rhodes & Goldust vs. Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns (Rhodes & Goldust must win to get their WWE jobs back, or else they'll never be rehired)

Cody Rhodes & Goldust defeated Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns via pinfall to regain their jobs with WWE.  During the late part of this match, Cody made a hot tag to come in and dropkick Rollins down.  He followed with a clothesline to send reigns off the apron, then kicked Rollins in the gut.  Cody hit the Alabama Slam and made a pinfall cover, but Rollins escaped.  Cody hit a move out of the corner for another near fall, with Reigns making a save on the pin.  Goldust came in and sustained a punch, but Cody delivered a Disaster Kick to Reigns.  A brawl broke out.  At ringside, Dusty Rhodes got into it with Dean Ambrose, with Dusty hitting Ambrose in the mouth with his Bionic Elbow.  In the ring, Rollins went for a rollup pin on Cody, but Rhodes kicked out of it.  Cody hit Cross Rhodes on Rollins to surprise him and took the winning pinfall.  Post-match, Dusty Rhodes was tearful as he got in the ring to celebrate with his sons.

Kofi Kingston vs. Bray Wyatt

Bray Wyatt defeated Kofi Kingston via pinfall.  Late in the match, Kofi got a bit spooked by Bray who hung upside down in the corner, then crawled backwards out of it.  Kofi left the ring, with Bray trying to go after him.  Bray went for a move, but Kofi ducked it and Bray crashed to the outside.  Kofi did a splash out on all three of the Wyatts on the outside to bring them down.  Back in the ring, Kofi went for a cross body splash from the top rope, but Bray avoided it.  Kofi tried to go for SOS, but Wyatt countered it by hitting Sister Abigail for the pinfall.  Post-match, Bray had Harper and Rowan help out in the ring with Rowan body slamming Kofi down, then sending him into a huge clothesline from Harper.  Wyatt spoke about how there will be no more left as they fall one by one.  He yelled to "Follow the buzzards."

CM Punk vs. Ryback

CM Punk defeated Ryback via pinfall.  Late in the match, Ryback grabbed Punk from mid-air to prepare for a big move, but Punk countered it to take Ryback down.  Punk went for a GTS but Ryback elbowed his way out of the finisher.  Ryback had a huge powerslam and a near fall 2 count.  Ryback kept on working on Ryback near the ropes.  Paul Heyman was ringside and pulled a kendo stick out from under the ring.  The referee saw Heyman and went over to warn him about interfering.  While the ref was distracted, Punk hit a low blow on Ryback, then pinned him to get the win.

Daniel Bryan vs. Randy Orton for vacated WWE Championship

Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton match was a no contest, leading to no new WWE Champion crowned.  Late in the match, Orton blocked a roundhouse kick from Bryan, then suplexed him over head.  He hit a DDT from the second rope then set up for the big RKO.  Orton dropped down to the mat, then went for it, but as he tried for the RKO, Bryan blocked it.  Bryan went for a kick, but Orton ducked it, then rolled him up.  Bryan escaped the pinfall and put the Yes Lock on Orton.  Suddenly, Big Show's music hit and he came running down to the ring.  Show yanked the referee out before he could decide on any submission by Orton.

Bryan let go of the hold on Orton, asking Show what he was doing.  Show connected on a KO punch to Bryan through the ropes.  The crowd starts to chant "You Sold Out" at Show.  Brad Maddox comes to the stage and sends referee Scott Armstrong down to officiate.  Armstrong gets in the ring to count Orton's pin on Bryan, but Show yanks Armstrong out of the ring, then punches him down.  Show gets into the ring and he and Orton have words.  Show hits a third KO punch to send Orton down.  Show got riled up as the fans went into a frenzy.  Brad Maddox looked on from the stage in shock as Show's music played and he posed for fans from the turnbuckles.  Battleground PPV ended as Orton and Bryan were down from the KO punches Show hit them with.

Check back after 11 p.m. EST for all of the results from tonight's WWE Battleground pay-per-view, with more followup and fallout to come on Monday's episode of Raw starting at 8pm EST!
