Best of ECW 2008 Recap

ECW Recap - The Best of ECW 2008:

At the WWE headquarters in Stamford, CT, Matt Striker and Todd Grisham took a look back at the best highlight moments and matches of ECW in 2008. They revisited CM Punk winning the ECW title in September 2007 then defending against many superstars, until he met Chavo Guerrero in January of 2008.

- Highlights were shown of the January 2008 match where Chavo challenged Punk for his ECW title. Vickie Guerrero made sure it was a No DQ match, which allowed Edge to interfere and Spear Punk down. Chavo took the pin and the ECW title. Chavo celebrated on the ramp with Vickie Guerrero and Edge. Matt Striker discussed how CM Punk couldn't recapture the ECW title, but made many valiant attempts. Highlights were shown of Punk attacking Chavo at the ECW Fiesta celebration, and then of Punk tossing Chavo into the Gulf of Mexico.

- Wrestlemania 24's Money in the Bank Ladder Match was shown from March 30, 2008. The match included Shelton Benjamin, Mr. Kennedy, Chris Jericho, John Morrison, MVP and CM Punk. Punk ended up climbing the ladder after knocking Chris Jericho away to grab the MITB briefcase.

- Two Months later the Rated R-Superstar Edge visited Raw to inform everyone that his World Heavyweight title was off the table for anyone on Raw, including Batista who recently was drafted there. Batista took exception and came out to attack Edge, leaving him layed out in the ring. CM Punk then took the opportunity to cash in MITB and hit the GTS on Edge in the ring, pinned him and captured the World Heavyweight title.

CM Punk won the "OMG Moment of the Year" Slammy Award for capturing the title from Edge. Todd Grisham asked Striker how the GTS feels as highlights were shown of him on the receiving end of it.

- Wrestlemania XXIV's 24 Man Battle Royal highlights were shown. The winner of the contest got to face Chavo Guerrero for the ECW title later on. It came down to Kane vs. Mark Henry with Kane tossing Henry over the top rope. Later on, Chavo Guerrero awaited Kane's arrival to the ring for their title match. Kane showed up in the ring behind Chavo, and as Chavo turned the bell sounded. Kane chokeslammed Chavo and pinned him within 8 seconds to capture the ECW title.

- Kane went on a rampage defeating all opponents, until he came to a Triple Threat match against Mark Henry and Big Show at Night of Champions. Matt Striker said the entire weight in that match was 1,156 pounds. Kane attacked Big Show up on the corner suplexing him off. As Kane was still on the mat, Mark Henry won it by using a Splash move off the ropes onto Kane for the pinfall victory.

- Highlights were shown to display the dominance of Mark Henry the World's Strongest ECW Champ. Henry was shown slamming everyone from Colin Delaney to Evan Bourne, Tommy Dreamer and Finlay.

Highlights were shown of The Miz & Morrison who won the World Tag Team titles and 2 Slammy Awards. Todd Grisham listed out all the reasons to "Be Jealous" of the duo. Striker said Miz & Morrison have claimed they're the greatest tag team of the 21st Century.

Cryme Tyme vs. The Miz & John Morrison
Cyber Sunday 10/26/08

At Cyber Sunday 2008, the fans voted for Cryme Tyme to face Miz & Morrison in a tag match. Highlights were shown of the match including Miz and Morrison effectively keeping JTG away from his partner, using cheap shots and doubleteams. JTG escaped as Miz tried to slingshot him into Morrison for an elbow. Instead, JTG hit Morrison off the apron and stomped on Miz with his boot. JTG crawled over for the tag to Shad. Morrison tagged in as well, but Shad clotheslined him down, then booted Miz down as well. Shad had the momentum but Morrison escaped a pin at 2.

All 4 men ended up in the ring after Miz broke up Shad's pin attempt on Morrison. The ref tried to get JTG out of the ring and as he was distracted, The Miz ran over and kicked Shad in the leg. Morrison took the opportunity to hit the Moonlight Drive, then stole the pin.

Winners: The Miz & John Morrison win via pinfall over Cryme Tyme.

Highlight video package shown of Matt Hardy in all sorts of matches including cage matches and ladder matches. It all culminated this year when Matt was drafted to ECW and won the ECW title at the Championship Scramble match.

Highlight video shown displaying the father-son love between Finlay and Hornswoggle.

Todd Grisham mentioned this year was ECW's 100th episode, and that he and Striker won the Slammy Award for top commentary team.

Grisham and Striker discussed the roller coaster year Matt Hardy had. It started when his tag partner MVP viciously attacked Matt and put him on the shelf with a bad leg injury. Matt made his surprise return at Wrestlemania 24, when he showed up at the Money in the Bank Ladder Match and knocked MVP off the ladder before he could get the briefcase. Matt delivered a Twist of Fate on MVP off the ladder.

- Highlights were shown of Backlash on 4/27/08, when Matt defeated MVP for the United States Championship.

- In June 2008, Matt was drafted from Smackdown to ECW. Matt went on to earn the title of #1 Contender for the ECW title, after dropping his US title to Shelton Benjamin.

- At Unforgiven 2008 the ECW Championship Scramble match was held with Mark Henry as champ. Every 5 minutes a new superstar was added to the match, until Finlay, The Miz, Chavo Guerrero, Mark Henry, John Morrison and Matt Hardy were all present. The title seemed to change hands several times with Chavo Guerrero and Finlay both making pins, but Matt was able to hit the Twist of Fate on Miz and captured the title. As the match time was winding down, Matt used a defensive strategy making sure to prevent any other pinfalls from happening. As the clock expired, Matt had the last pin and became the new ECW Champion.

ECW returned with highlights of new ECW star, the high-flying Evan Bourne. Bourne's Shooting Star Press won the Slammy for Finishing Maneuver of the Year.

Evan Bourne was voted to face Matt Hardy at Cyber Sunday for the ECW title.

Evan Bourne vs. Matt Hardy
Cyber Sunday ECW Title Match

At Cyber Sunday it was the high-flying superstar Bourne receiving the majority of fan votes over Finlay & Mark Henry. Striker said many are calling this the match of the year. Early on Bourne hit an impressive dropkick which took Matt by surprise. Later still, Matt hit a Side Effect and tried for a pin with Bourne kicking out. Matt hit a second Side Effect, and Bourne escaped the pin again. Hardy went to the second rope and jumped at Bourne, but Evan jumped up and hit a spinning heel kick in Matt's gut. Bourne hit a flying double knee off the corner onto Matt but Matt escaped the pin.

Bourne continued to use all sorts of moves on Hardy. Bourne climbed to the corner for the Shooting Star Press, but Matt got up fast and went up to fight Bourne. Bourne shoved Matt off the corner down to the mat. As Bourne went for the Shooting Star Press Matt rolled out of the way. Bourne crashed to the mat, and as he stood up Matt went for Twist of Fate. Bourne countered it into a slide pin, but Matt escaped, stood up and hit a quick Twist of Fate.

Winner: Matt Hardy wins via pinfall over Evan Bourne to retain the ECw title.

Todd and Matt introduced highlights from 2008 WWE Tribute to the Troops complete with an intro from President George W. Bush. Cryme Tyme, The Miz, Big Show, Batista, CM Punk, and John cena were among the superstars involved. WWE Divas Kelly Kelly, Eve, Alicia Fox, Mickie James and Maria were also along to help boost the morale and spirits of the men and women overseas.

Grisham and Striker discussed several other superstars who have debuted and done well on ECW: Kofi Kingston, DJ Gabriel and Jack Swagger. They highlighted the 6'4 260 lb All-American American, and his Gut Wrench Powerbomb.

Striker mentioned the new WWE Champion, Jeff Hardy, who hit a huge Swanton at Armageddon on Edge to capture the WWE title. Matt came out to congratulate Jeff after the match at Armageddon. The two brothers hugged in the ring with Matt raising his brother's hand up triumphantly. Striker discussed the new era of "Fighting Champions" with the Hardys holding gold. Striker proposed the question of which superstars might be looking for a shot at their titles in 2009. Todd Grisham pulled out the Slammy Award for Best Announce Team of 08' to mention they won once more.

Raw Recap 10.27.08

Raw Recap from Tucson, AZ:

Raw opened with a "In Memory of Conrad Efraim "Special Deliver Jones" 1945-2008 slide, before launching into the show. Highlights were shown from Cyber Sunday with the World Heavyweight title match between Chris Jericho and Batista. Stone Cold Steve Austin won the fan vote to be special guest referee. During the encounter, Shawn Michaels, Randy Orton and JBL all got involved in the match. Eventually, Randy Orton knocked down Austin and tried to count the pinfall for Y2J. Batista escaped at 2, and Austin was back up to give Orton a Stunner. Austin went to Stun Jericho, but Jericho shoved him away. Y2J turned and Batista speared him down, then delivered a Batista Bomb to capture the victory and the title!

Raw went on the air announcing a Batista/Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Jericho/JBL tag team match. Jericho made his way down to the ring angrily grabbing a mic to address the fans and Batista. Jericho called last night's title loss the biggest screwjob in WWE history, saying GM Mike Adamle helped Batista win the title. Jericho said Austin acted as a totally biased referee and the end result is Batista is the new champ. Jericho said Batista didn't beat him, but had the help of an entire army helping him in a conspiracy. Jericho said he will exercise his rematch clause for next week and take back the title from Batista.

GM Mike Adamle headed down the ramp with a mic in hand. Adamle told Jericho he decided to make sure there would be no interference in Jericho's rematch against Batista, so it will be a stell cage match next week. Angrily Jericho paced the ring saying "you want to lock me in a cage?" Y2J stormed out of the ring, bumping Adamle on his way. Just then, Randy Orton came down to the ring and took a mic to talk to Adamle. Orton chastised Adamle for sending him out to referee last night, as it set his recovery back. Orton said he'll make sure Adamle doesn't get away with this. Orton looked into the camera and called for Stephanie and Shane McMahon to come to Raw next week and fire Adamle, or else Orton will leave WWE. Orton began to call out Adamle as a failure at all the jobs he's done in life. Orton mentioned Adamle's wife and kids, prompting Adamle to slap him in the face. Orton got enraged and got into Adamle's face, then stormed out of the ring.

Highlight footage shown from backstage at Unforgiven PPV when Orton got into CM Punk's interview space, and then Punk was attacked by Manu, Rhodes and Dibiase. With Punk down, Orton delivered his running kick to Punk's head, taking him out of the title match at the PPV.

CM Punk and Kofi Kingston shown walking backstage on their way out for a tag team match.

Kofi Kingston & CM Punk vs. Cody Rhodes & Ted Dibiase
World Tag Team title match

With the titles on the line, Cody Rhodes worked to wear down Kofi Kingston for quite some time. Eventually, Kingston made an impressive counter to escape Rhodes. Both Rhodes and Kofi tagged out, and Punk got on the top rope to springboard off and clothesline Ted Dibiase down. A swinging neckbreaker followed and Punk then ran over to knock Rhodes off the apron.

Punk continued with a furious offensive frenzy, eventually kneeing Dibiase in the corner. Manu got on the apron, but Punk quickly turned and kicked him off. All 4 competitors were in the ring, and Rhodes went to grab Punk. Kofi leapfrogged onto Rhodes and stayed on Rhode's shoulders, then propelled both of them over the top rope. Dibiase tried for a neckbreaker on Punk near the ropes. Punk held onto the ropes and Dibiase fell back. As Dibiase stood back up, Punk grabbed him and did the Go To Sleep, then captured the pinfall victory. Kofi and Punk are your new World Tag Team champions!

While Kofi and Punk celebrated in the ring, Rhodes, Dibiase and Manu aruged with one another on the ramp.

Winners: Kofi Kingston & CM Punk win via pinfall over Cody Rhodes & Ted Dibiase to become new World Tag Team Champions.

The GlamaHaas vs. Santino Marella
Intercontinental Title Match

Santino addressed Honky Tonk Man before the match and showed the Honk-a-Meter, saying in about a year he'll be greatest Intercontinental champion ever. Santino Marella told the cameraman to focus on his girlfriend The Glamazon. Just then, Beth Phoenix' theme music started to play and down the ramp came Charlie Haas in a blond wig and Phoenix' ring attire, carrying a Women's belt. Michael Cole dubbed him the "GlamaHaas".

Santino attacked Haas from behind to start things off, then threw him out of the ring at the commentator's table. Santino made the mistake of slapping Honky Tonk Man and then retreating back to the ring. All three guest commentators jumped out of their seats. Piper and Goldust went to the other side of the ring to prevent Santino from escaping. Honky Tonk man snuck into the ring behind Marella. As Piper and Goldust got in the ring, Santino turned and was clocked by Honky Tonk Man's guitar. Honky Tonk man's theme music played and the three legends celebrated in the ring, as an angry Beth Phoenix looked on.

Winner: No winner/disqualification when Honky Tonk Man, Roddy Piper and Goldust got involved.

Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler announced a six diva tag match coming up as well as Evan Bourne vs. Rey Mysterio. Up next, Cole said the new champion will speak.

A promotional video was shown for Mike Knox which indicated he'd be coming to Raw soon.

In the ring, commentator Michael Cole introduced the new World Heavyweight champion, Batista. The new champ came down to an ovation from the fans, and posed with his title in all the corners of the ring. Batista thanked the fans for their support in helping him regain the title he lost. Cole asked Batista about next week's rematch with Jericho in a steel cage. Batista said he's not concerned over a steel cage match since that's his playground, and Jericho has nowhere to run or hide. Batista vowed to still be champion after Raw next week.

Backstage, Candice Michelle, Kelly Kelly, and Mickie James were shown walking backstage on their way to the ring.

WWE 24/7 On Demand showed highlights of August 9, 1980's "Showdown at Shea" at Shea Stadium in New York. The card included Tony Atlas, the Wild Samoans, and Bruno Sammartino in classic matches. Candice Michelle, Kelly Kelly, & Mickie James vs. Jillian Hall, Katie Lea & Layla

Footage was shown of the brawl that broke out during last night's Diva Costume contest. Victoria was dressed up as a giant banana and tossed a banana at Mickie James when she was announced winner. Eventually, the face divas cleared the ring to help Mickie James celebrate her win in the contest.

Kelly Kelly went on a rampage in this match, as Mickie James eluded Katie Lea to tag her in. Kelly was able to ram into Katie's stomach from the apron then flipped over the rope into the ring. Katie was able to use several other impressive moves, and revved the crowd up as she ran and jumped on the corner where Katie Lea was. Katie shoved Kelly down and went for a pin, however Candice was able to grab Katie's leg from ringside. Jillian and Layla ran over to go after Mickie and Candice outside the ring, but they were both knocked down. Meanwhile in the ring, Kelly was able to set up Katie for the K2 to win the match.

Winners: Mickie James, Kelly Kelly & Candice Michelle win by pinfall over Jillian Hall, Katie Lea and Layla.

JBL delivered a message on the Titantron from backstage. JBL called out Shawn Michaels for interfering in a business deal he had with Chris Jericho at Cyber Sunday. JBL said HBK cost him a lot of money by getting into the middle of things. JBL said tonight Shawn Michaels will pay and learn nobody crosses JBL.

A commercial was shown for next week's Raw. It will have a special 8PM EST start time and be 3 hours long to commemorate Raw's record-breaking 800th episode.

Evan Bourne vs. Rey Mysterio

Highlights were shown from last night's Mysterio vs. Kane No Holds Barred match. Kane seemed to have the match in control, but Mysterio made a major comeback and eventually splashed onto Kane to win it. An interview was shown prior to the match with Evan Bourne and Rey Mysterio. Bourne told Rey he's been waiting all his life for this opportunity and plans to defeat him tonight.

Bourne thought he had Rey down and went to the top rope for the Shooting Starpress. Mysterio got up and tried to battle Bourne, but Bourne shoved him down. Bourne jumped onto Mysterio to try to grab his legs for a rollup pin. Mysterio countered it to slingshot Bourne into the ropes, then delivered a 619. Rey tried to springboard off the ropes, but Bourne avoided him. Bourne jumped onto Rey's shoulders from behind, then tried another roll-up pin. This time Rey reversed it and rolled up Bourne for the winning pin.

After the match, Rey extended a handshake to Bourne who was angry at losing. Bourne shook his hand, but just then flames erupted from the top of the ramp, and Kane headed their way. Rey told Bourne he'd handle Kane on his own, so Bourne got out of the ring. Kane got into the ring and began to decimate Mysterio, prompting Bourne to re-enter the ring and help Rey fight Kane. The two men were able to use high kick moves to Kane to knock him down. Just then, Mark Henry rushed to the ring. Evan Bourne used the ropes to swing and dropkick Henry, then tried to jump over the ropes. Henry caught him in the air. Rey saw it and went towards the ropes to help, but Kane was back up and grabbed Rey for a huge Chokeslam. Henry rolled Bourne back into the ring and did the World's Strongest Slam. Kane and Henry stared down at the two fallen wrestlers then gave each other a look.

Winner: Rey Mysterio wins via pinfall over Evan Bourne.

The official theme song for Survivor Series will be "Spoilin' For a Fight" by AC/DC, in stores now.

Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler introduced footage to chronicle Cena's rise to wrestling fame, which all started in Boston, MA. Cena's family spoke about growing up with Cena and the way they all used to wrestle one another. John's former trainers and sports coaches spoke as well about how gifted an athlete Cena was. The footage ended with "John Cena returns Survivor Series".

ECW's The Miz & John Morrison came out to the ramp in street clothes carrying mis. Morrison told the crowd to quiet down. Miz & Morrison talked about their remarks towards DX on their video show "The Dirt Sheet", referring to DX as geriatrics. Morrison said next week they will take on D-Generation X as part of the Raw 3 hour show. Miz said a special edition of The Dirt Sheet will go down on tomorrow night's ECW, where they'll examine the rise and fall of DX.

Batista was shown backstage getting revved up for his tag match.

Highlights were shown from earlier in the show when Orton got into Adamle's face and called him a failure at life. Adamle slapped Orton, prompting Randy to get angry then leave the ring enraged.

Shawn Michaels & Batista vs. JBL & Chris Jericho

Just as Jericho arrived to the ring, footage was shown backstage of JBL giving Shawn Michaels a beatdown in a hallway. JBL repeatedly punched HBK then tossed him against walls and light fixtures. Lawler yelled for someone to get some help as JBL shoved Michaels through a door in the hall, then slammed it shut. Jericho was looking on from the ring and smiled at what went down. JBL arrived to the ring after taking care of business with HBK. Y2J stood in the ring and applauded JBL's work.

Batista came to the ring by himself since Shawn Michaels had been decimated backstage prior to the match. Jericho and JBL did as expected with a serious doubleteam beating of Batista. The two heels effectively worked to wear down the champ, distracting the ref at times so the other man could cheapshot The Animal. Eventually Batista cleared the ring of both men, clotheslining Jericho off the apron into the commentary table. Raw went to commercial with Batista yelling out at JBL and Jericho.

Raw returned with Batista in control, delivering a hard clothesline to Jericho. Jericho was able to counter an Irish Whip to the ropes, and Batista went after JBL who hit him from behind. Jericho took advantage with a kick to the back of Batista's head. The heels again started to work on Batista and wear him down 2 on 1. Batista regained momentum again on a tag out by JBL to Y2J. Batista began to clothesline down Jericho, and eventually knocked JBL off the apron. Batista went for a Batista Bomb, but Jericho jumped out of it, then hit the Code Breaker. Jericho crawled over for the cover and Batista escaped at 2.

JBL went for a Clothesline from Hell once he tagged in, but Batista ducked it and Speared him. Jericho pulled himself back to the apron and yelled for JBL to tag, but just then, Shawn Michaels emerged from backstage and limped down the ramp. HBK took his place on the side apron, fired up. Batista managed a tag but the ref had his attention on Jericho and missed the tag. Michaels pleaded with the ref. Jericho had left the ring and re-entered, trying to use the championship belt to hit Batista. Batista and JBL both ducked Jericho's attempt and HBK tried to hit Jericho with a Superkick. Jericho dropped to the mat and escaped the ring. As the ref was distracted, Batista grabbed JBL and delivered a Spinebuster, then a Batista Bomb to win it.

Shawn Michaels helped Batista to his feet, and the Animal hoisted his title up for Jericho to see from the ramp.

Winners: Batista & Shawn Michaels win via pinfall over JBL & Chris Jericho.

As Raw left the air, Michael Cole reminded fans of next week's 3 hour Raw with Miz/Morrison vs DX and Jericho vs. Batista in a steel cage for the World Heavyweight title.

Add More Cyber to Sunday?

WWE began Cyber Sunday several years ago as a new "innovation" to allow the fans to interactively participate and control the card for a PPV. While the fans do vote and have some control over the show, the WWE ultimately has the say in what goes down. Normally, it seems as if the event is geared to look like the fans played a part, but everyone holds onto their belts. Last night actually gave us a nice surprise as one match produced a new champion in Batista, but did the fans really determine that?

Batista was able to capture the World Heavyweight title from Chris Jericho in the main event. The fans voted in Stone Cold Steve Austin as guest ref, and he played his part well. While the fans made this choice, the WWE still sent down the other 2 refs to participate, as well as JBL. When all was said and done, Batista found a way to defeat the trash talking, arrogant Jericho, and the fans may feel as if they helped somewhat in granting Batista a fair fight. If HBK had been voted to start the match as ref, would we have seen a similar scenario, with HBK knocked out, and Stone Cold running down to make a count for Batista?

It would be very interesting when WWE starts allowing fans to vote even more on complete matches. For example, allowing two title holders to fight, and choosing which belt is up for grabs. Santino vs. Shelton, which title will be up for grabs, or both? How about the fans possibly determining a title holder? The WWE lists 5 wrestlers including the current champ, and the fans choose 3 for a Triple Threat match. If the current title holder isn't in that Triple Threat Match, they won't be wearing the belt after Cyber Sunday. Instead of diva costume contests, how about classic diva matches as voted on by fans? And how about fans deciding between a Punjabi Prison, Hell in a Cell or Elimination Chamber...Alright, that might be a bit much, as WWE would need to prepare three huge structures and have them hanging above the ring.

As for the format of the show, why not start off with the matches fans weren't as interested in. Most likely these were the Intercontinental match involving Santino and Honky Tonk Man (no disrespect to the legends), and then the Miz/Morrison vs. Cryme Tyme match. In a related note, it was surprising to see the fans would prefer to see a war between feuding video bloggers instead of a title match involving Kofi Kingston, CM Punk facing Rhodes & Dibiase. This either says the WWE is really good at influencing the fan vote, or the fan vote was overruled.

Stone Cold, Jeff Hardy and Evan Bourne were landslide vote winners at Cyber Sunday, which may be the same thing we see in this year's presidential election with Barrack Obama. Unfortunately, fans will not be able to vote for the type of match Obama beats down John McCain in, it'll have to be an old fashioned election.

Raw Preview 10.27.08

Monday Night Raw hits the air following an explosive Cyber Sunday Pay-Per-View. At the event, fans voted for match stipulations, opponents and referees. The fans vote played a major role in the main event match which saw Batista take on Chris Jericho for the World Heavyweight title. In the vote, fan favorite Stone Cold Steve Austin edged out Shawn Michaels and Randy Orton. Despite this, all 3 referees came into play during the match, as did JBL. Through all the chaos and confusion it was Batista who was able to persevere and hit the Batista Bomb on Jericho, to reclaim the World Heavyweight title. Now as Raw unfolds, what will Chris Jericho have to say regarding last night's loss, as well as Shawn Michael's involvement in the outcome? Will Jericho demand a rematch against Batista?

Last night also saw several other Raw superstars in action. Santino Marella got to put his belt on the line against the legendary Honky Tonk Man. In the match, a Beth Phoenix interference cost Santino the match, giving Honky Tonk a DQ win. Beth and Santino angrily argued with each other before Honky Tonk, Goldust and Roddy Piper decided to beat down Santino. What will Santino have to say regarding his loss to the Honky Tonk Man? Will he issue a rematch challenge to prove himself? And what will be the aftermath of Beth Phoenix and Santino's altercation?

It's also the week of Halloween, and last night the divas got into the spirit at Cyber Sunday! Mickie James was able to capture her second straight win in the annual Divas Halloween Costume contest, as she dressed up as Lara Croft Tomb Raider. Will the divas come out in costume again for the fans?

With the fans voting on the PPV tag team match last night, Cryme Tyme lost on a cheapshot to the Miz and Morrison. Meanwhile, Cody Rhodes and Ted Dibiase got a night off from defending their World Tag Team titles against CM Punk and Kofi Kingston. Will CM Punk and Kofi stay in the picture for the titles? What will Rhodes, Dibiase and Manu have in store next for Raw?

Tune in to tonight's Raw at 9PM EST on USA for all the answers!

Kane attempted to use a steel chair on Mysterio, but Mysterio began to mount his high-flying offense in the ring and avoided being beat down. A frustrated Kane than threw the steel steps into the ring and set them up in the corner, but a drop toe kick from Rey sent Kane face first into the steps! Mysterio then used the steel chair to hit Kane several times. Rey went for 619, but the Big Red Machine grabbed him in a chokeslam attempt. Rey was able to counter with the Hurricanrana! Matt Hardy followed Bourne up the ropes, but Bourne fought him off, sending Matt down into the ring. Bourne went for his Shooting Starpress to end it, but Matt got out of the way, causing Bourne to crash to the mat. Matt delivered a kick to Bourne and went for Twist of Fate, with Bourne countering it into a backslide pinfall. Cryme Tyme vs. The Miz & John Morrison - 38% , World Tag Team Champions Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase CM Punk & Kofi Kingston - 35% and Jamie Noble & Mickie James vs. William Regal & Layla - 27%.

In this ongoing feud between ECW & Raw tag teams, the trash talking would be settled in the ring. After Miz and JTG battled for some time, John Morrison made a blind tag to his partner. JTG was able to knock Miz off the apron from a catapult move. Eventually, Shad made the tag in, making he and Morrison the legal wrestlers. Shad overwhelmed Morrison with power moves but could only get a two count on Morrison. Morrison countered out of Shad's move and tried for a pin, but had his feet on the ropes. JTG made a save from the outside to prevent Morrison's pin. The Miz confronted JTG on the outside, while Shad slammed Morrison inside. The Miz broke up the pinfall attempt, causing the ref to try to restore order to the match. As the ref was turning his attention to the other wrestlers, Miz hit a cheap shot on Shad. John Morrison followed with the Midnight Ride to get the three count victory for his team!

Winners: The Miz & John Morrison win via pinfall over Cryme Tyme.

Honky Tonk Man vs. Santino Marella
Intercontinental Title match

Fan voting for the Intercontinental title match was close: Honky Tonk Man - 35%, Roddy Piper - 34% and Goldust - 31%.

Prior to the match, Santino again revealed the Honk-a-Meter to let fans know he needed to hold the title for another year and 1 week to outdo Honky Tonk Man. As the fans' selection, Honky Tonk came to the ring told Santino he could hold the title for 10 years, but would never compare to him. Honky Tonk gave an Elvis-type dance, then asked Santino to show his own moves. Santino began to display lame dance moves, then sucker punched Honky Tonk man to the mat. The bell rang getting things underway as the two locked up. Honky Tonk displayed impressive offense to take control with a shoulder block off the ropes and putting Santino into headlocks. Beth Phoenix was at ringside and tripped Honky Tonk at one point. The ref saw this and called for the bell for a DQ, sending Santino into a frenzy!

After the bell, both Rowdy Roddy Piper and Goldust came to the ring. Beth Phoenix tried to intervene on behalf of Santino, but to no avail. Goldust used a takedown on Santino, then Piper hit him with a barrage of punches. Finally, Honky Tonk Man connected on his patented "Shake, Rattle N Roll". The 3 WWE legends held up each other's hands following the beatdown of Santino.

Winner: Honky Tonk Man defeats Santino Marella due to disqualification when Beth Phoenix interfered. Santino retains the Intercontinental title.

Big Show vs. Undertaker
Last Man Standing Match

Vickie Guerrero was pushed out to the ramp by Chavo Guerrero to announce the results: The Last Man Standing Match received 49% of votes, the I Quit Match had 42% of fan votes and the Knockout Match - 9% of total votes.

The Undertaker and Big Show displayed an all-out battle as they attempted to leave each other down for the 10 count. At one point, Undertaker hit a DDT on Big Show, then went for Old School by walking the ropes. Big Show grabbed Taker off the ropes, then chokeslammed him down. Undertaker was down for a 9 count and barely got up. Show connected on a right hand punch for another knockout, leaving Undertaker out cold. The count reached 8, and Undertaker sat up suddenly, then was up at 9. Show retrieved a steel chair from outside the ring and brought it into play, connecting on a chair shot to Undertaker. As Show reached down to pick Undertaker up, Undertaker wrapped up Big Show in a Gogoplata to choke Show. Undertaker released the hold, leaving Show down for the count, and Vickie Guerrero looking enraged at the top of the ramp.

Winner: Undertaker defeats Big Show in The Last Man Standing Match.

WWE Divas Halloween Costume Contest

Smackdown commentator Tazz came into the ring and introduced the divas, who came out all dressed in Halloween costumes. Tazz revealed Mickie James as the winner, who was dressed up as Lara Croft Tomb Raider. An all-out brawl broke out amongst all divas in he ring, with the face divas eventually clearing the ring to celebrate with Mickie James!

Winner: Mickie James is voted winner of the 2008 Halloween Costume Contest.

Jeff Hardy vs. Triple H
WWE Title Match

In the vote for Triple H's opponent, Jeff Hardy received the most fan votes at 57%, Jeff Hardy & Vladimir Kozlov received 38% and Vladimir Kozlov just 5% of votes.

In a spirited rematch from Unforgiven, Hardy gave it all he had once again. Triple H was able to apply a sleeper hold from behind, but Hardy escaped it to hit the Twist of Fate. After a 2 count, Hardy went to the top rope and connected on a Swanton Bomb. Sensing victory was close, Hardy tore off his shirt, went to the top rope and tried for another Swanton. This time, HHH put his legs up to block Hardy. Both men were down as the ref counted. As Jeff got to his feet, HHH went for a Pedigree, but Jeff countered it. Hardy then sent HHH to the outside, and jumped out of the ring onto him. Jeff revved the crowd up as he pushed HHH back into the ring. However, when Jeff re-entered, HHH was able to hit him with the Pedigree and capture the pinfall victory!

Winner: Triple H wins via pinfall over Jeff Hardy to retain the WWE title.

Batista vs. Chris Jericho
World Heavyweight Title Match
Special Guest Referee Austin

The fans chose all-time favorite, Stone Cold Steve Austin as special guest referee, with 74% of the votes. Shawn Michaels earned 22% and Randy Orton just 4% of the votes.

During this title match, Austin appeared to be calling things down the middle, but an arrogant Jericho crossed the line. At one point in the match, Austin gave the finger to Jericho when Y2J got into his face, sending a clear message. Batista accidentally plowed into Austin, knocking him out of the ring, after the Animal elbowed Y2J. Jericho quickly hit the Code Breaker on Batista, and went for a pin. Down to the ring came Shawn Michaels who made a very slow count just to irritate Y2J. Jericho got up and confronted Michaels, but the distraction caused Jericho to walk into a Spear from Batista. HBK went to give a quick count to Batista for the win, but JBL came to the ring and broke things up.

As Austin returned to the ring, it was Randy Orton who ran down and took out Stone Cold. Jericho then clocked Batista with the World Heavyweight belt and Orton began to count. Stone Cold was back in the ring and gave Orton the finger, then the Stone Cold Stunner! Austin went for the Stunner on Jericho as well, but Y2J eluded him. However, Batista was able to deliver a Spinebuster and then the Batista Bomb to defeat Y2J with a pinfall. Batista has won the World Heavyweight title again!

Winner: Batista wins via pinfall over Chris Jericho to become the new World Heavyweight champion.

A few huge surprises tonight at an interesting Cyber Sunday. First off, that Miz/Morrison vs. Cryme Tyme was able to edge out the World Tag team title match. Secondly, Batista's ability to defeat Chris Jericho in the main event. This may be setting up a future John Cena vs. Batista for the title scenario, as Cena's return is looming, and the two have only had one epic battle. Strange but true, anything can happen in the WWE Universe! Congrats to Batista, the new World Heavyweight title holder, and all of tonight's winners! Next stop, Monday Night Raw and next Pay Per View, Survivor Series!

2008 Cyber Sunday Predictions

Cyber Sunday gives fans from the WWE the ultimate interactive experience. With this particular Pay-Per-View, the matches won't be officially known until the fans votes have been tabulated. So for these predictions, WWE Characters the Blog offers a look at what match to expect as well as predicted winners!

CM Punk & Kofi Kingston vs. Rhodes & Dibiase
World Tag Team title match

The WWE has lobbied a lot for the Miz/Morrison vs. Cryme Tyme match due to all the video blogs and segments that have been on WWE.com, Raw, ECW and Smackdown. Fans will wisely vote for CM Punk and Kofi Kingston to go after two of their attackers from a month or so ago. It also gives the high-flying duo a chance at taking away the tag team titles. However, expect Manu to be involved and maybe even Randy Orton. Rhodes & Dibiase keep their tag team titles here.

Prediction: Cody Rhodes & Ted Dibiase win via pinfall to retain their tag team titles.

Honky Tonk Man vs. Santino Marella

It wouldn't be a shocker if Roddy Piper win the vote due to his immense popularity in WWE history. However, with the Honk-a-Meter being displayed by Santino week after week, expect to see the legendary Honky Tonk man in this match. It also wouldn't be shocking for WWE to have Honky Tonk man win the match and the title, just to break up Santino's bragging about being best champ ever. I'll stick with Santino to retain his title, but maybe Honky Tonk wins by a countout or due to a DQ.

Prediction: Santino will retain his title, but not win the match clean.

R-Truth vs. Shelton Benjamin
US Championship Match

With the other choices MVP or Festus, it's clear the fan-friendly R-Truth will get the vote here. In past weeks Truth has really gotten under Benjamin's skin, proving he has what it takes to win the title. This may be the only shot at a title change on the entire PPV card, so don't be surprised when Truth becomes the new champ. This also gives the fans the impression that their vote can result in someone winning a title and making WWE history.

Prediction: R-Truth gets the fan vote and then the best of Benjamin to become new United States champion.

Rey Mysterio vs. Kane
No Holds Barred match

Falls count anywhere would suit Mysterio and Kane better, but No Holds Barred gives Rey a great chance at winning. With a Mysterio win, we may finally see the end of this feud which has carried on for 3 Pay-Per-Views now. Expect Mysterio to win after the use of all sorts of foreign objects.

Prediction: Rey Mysterio wins a No Holds Barred match, pinning Kane.

Big Show vs. Undertaker
Last Man Standing

Early indications have been that there will be a Casket Match between these two at Survivor Series, the next Pay-Per-View. If that's the case it's tough to see Undertaker winning here. If it were an "I Quit" match, it's hard to imagine Taker saying he quits. Fans will most likely vote for a Last Man Standing contest, and if we don't get a double loss (like Undertaker and Batista last year), we will see Show with a second TKO. Show may score the knockout then say he'll get his third and final KO to put Undertaker away in a casket match.

Prediction: Big Show delivers a knockout blow to Undertaker in a Last Man Standing match to win it.

Evan Bourne vs. Matt Hardy
ECW Title match

This could be the match of the card, with the newcomer and very gifted high-flying Bourne taking on ECW champ Matt Hardy. While it could be a very entertaining match, don't get your hopes up, because no matter what, Mark Henry will find a way to come in and interfere. It's possible we see a clean Hardy pinfall, but we may also see a Mark Henry-based disqualification. Henry will be upset over not being in the title picture, and will let his anger be seen and felt by Matt Hardy/Evan Bourne.

Prediction: Matt Hardy retains his title due to a clean pin or Mark Henry interfering for a DQ.

Jeff Hardy vs. Vladimir Kozlov vs. Triple H
WWE Title Match

Fans will vote for the classic Triple Threat match, to see Triple H defending his WWE belt. In recent weeks Kozlov has decimated both Jeff and Triple H. In this match, most likely Kozlov gets taken out of the ring equation somehow, making it Jeff versus Triple H. Or Kozlov lays out Jeff, then Triple H manages to score the win to set up a future Kozlov vs. HHH title match.

Prediction: HHH defeats Jeff Hardy by pinfall to retain his WWE title and set up a future match with Kozlov.

Batista vs. Chris Jericho
World Heavyweight Title Match
Special Guest Referee

The storyline seems to make Shawn Michaels the nod for this match, but the fans still love Stone Cold. It may turn out that Austin wins the vote but doesn't serve as special ref. Or he does win the vote, referees it for a while, is somehow taken out of the match, and HBK rushes down as the new ref. No matter what the situation, Jericho will somehow retain his title to set up a future match involving Batista and Michaels.

Prediction: With Stone Cold as special referee, Chris Jericho manages to defeat Batista and win by pinfall.

And let's not forget the WWE Divas Halloween contest! It most likely will be a repeat win by Mickie James, a fan favorite, although now that Kelly Kelly is on Raw and a friend of Cryme Tyme, she may be able to "steal" the fan's vote!

This should be an interesting Pay-Per-View, as the WWE has to really second guess fan voting and prepare an entertaining contest that keeps the stories in check. Don't expect too many surprises or title changes, but we may see a few. Check back here after the Pay-Per-View end time of about 11PM EST to get all the results and match recaps!

Raw Preview 10.20.08

Cyber Sunday arrives this coming Sunday, with several Raw superstars getting ready to do battle. Tonight's show is sure to add fuel to the fire, and possibly impact the WWE Universe's votes on the PPV event!

Chris Jericho will look to defend his title at the Pay-Per-View against the Animal, Batista. Last Monday night, Batista and Jericho chose one another's opponents. Jericho chose Shawn Michaels to face Batista and turned it into a lumberjack match complete with heels around the ring to beat on Batista. Batsita overcame the odds and won yet again, then put Jericho in a match versus CM Punk. Batista appointed himself special guest referee and ended up delivering a Spinebuster to Jericho, allowing Punk to pick up the pinfall win. The stipulation for the World Heavyweight title match between Jericho and Batista will be the fans vote on who the special guest referee is for the match. Will it be Stone Cold Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels or Randy Orton? Michaels and Orton have already lobbied to the fans, with both giving reasons they wouldn't make a fair choice. Will the Texas Rattlesnake appeal to the fans most? What will Jericho and Batista have in store for Raw prior to their match?

Another two superstars who have been in a furious feud are Kane and Rey Mysterio. These two will do battle at Cyber Sunday, with fans choosing their match type. Rey and Kane may do battle in a Falls Count Anywhere match, No Holds Barred match or Best 2-out-of-3 Falls match. The fans will decide their fate for the PPV. In the past weeks, Rey has teamed up with ECW champ Matt Hardy to face Kane and Mark Henry. Will GM Mike Adamle put Kane and Mysterio in the ring together again before their PPV match?

A new match added to Cyber Sunday involves the WWE Universe getting to choose the tag team match for the card. Raw superstars are involved in each of the 3 matches. One match has Mickie James & Jamie Noble doing battle with King Regal & Layla. Another option is to see Cryme Tyme go up against The Miz and John Morrison. The final choice has CM Punk & Kofi Kingston facing Cody Rhodes & Ted Dibiase for the World Tag Team belts. How will all of these tag teams prepare for the event and make their appeals to the fans?

Get ready for an explosive Raw tonight at 9PM EST on USA!

Smackdown Preview 10.17.08

Tonight's Smackdown on MyNetworkTV features another blockbuster main event which could impact voting for Cyber Sunday. The enigmatic superstar, Jeff Hardy, will face the Russian powerhouse, Vladimir Kozlov. For weeks, Kozlov has been demanding better competition from the Smackdown roster. Since his demands weren't met, Kozlov decided to start sending messages. He attacked both Triple H and Jeff Hardy over several weeks, and even interfered in their WWE title match at Unforgiven. Tonight, Hardy finally gets to go one-on-one with the impressive, undefeated Kozlov. Will Hardy be able to avenge the attacks that Kozlov has launched on him? Or will Kozlov once again pick up another victory and press on towards the WWE title?

Fans from the WWE Universe will definitely be interested in the result of the Kozlov/Jeff Hardy match, as will the current WWE champ, Triple H. The Game successfully defended his title against Jeff Hardy at Unforgiven. Now the interactive Cyber Sunday Pay-Per-View is approaching, with a little over a week to go! The fans will choose Triple H's opponent for the WWE title match at the event. The choices are Kozlov, Jeff Hardy, or both men in a Triple Threat match. What will Triple H have to say regarding the possible match at Cyber Sunday? Will he make a statement to Kozlov and Hardy?

The Divas Championship has been held by Michelle McCool of the Smackdown roster since its inception. McCool has successfully defeated Natalya and Maryse to retain her title over the past few months. There's still plenty of diva talent on the roster who are hungry for the title. Victoria, Natalya and Maryse are all still awaiting another shot at Michelle and the title. Maria and Brie Bella have been showing improvement in the ring as well. Will another diva come forward looking for a title shot? How will the next #1 contender for the Divas Championship be decided?

Don't forget about the Undertaker, who made sure to spoil Big Show's chances at the WWE title last Friday. Undertaker battled Show to the back, making it clear that this feud is far from over. There will be details on tonight's show about the stipulations fans can vote on for their Cyber Sunday match. What will these stipulations be? Will Show or Undertaker make another move to gain the upperhand?

Tune in to Smackdown tonight at 8PM EST on its new channel, MyNetworkTV!

Check back after 10PM EST here for a full recap of the show!

Cyber Sunday Pay-Per-Vote?

WWE Fans & Cyber Sunday Voting

The Cyber Sunday Pay-Per-View is just a few weeks away and it is considered truly interactive in that it allows fans to choose the matches. According to WWE.com, the tagline reads "the power is in your hands". The WWE Universe gets to vote and determine the matches that will go down at the PPV. That is, fans can choose matches to the extent WWE leads them to choose. Many of the choices are geared to make the fans vote a certain way, but a few votes always turn out interesting. So far fans are able to choose a special guest referee and the opponents for two matches, but technically not any actual match formats* (see WWE title match).

For the Batista vs. Chris Jericho World Heavyweight title match, fans can select a special guest referee from the choices of Randy Orton, Shawn Michaels, and Stone Cold Steve Austin. Until Austin was announced as a potential ref on Raw, it appeared HBK would gain the nod. Based on the storylines, Michaels should be the guest ref, but fan popularity will bring Stone Cold Steve Austin back into the fray.

Then there's the WWE title match at Cyber Sunday. This one does give the fans a bit more power in that they can determine the opponent(s) and the match type. Choices are Triple H vs. Vladimir Kozlov, Triple H vs. Jeff Hardy or Triple H vs. Hardy & Kozlov in a Triple Threat match. This will be an interesting vote to see, because fans are obviously behind Jeff Hardy and want to see him claim the title. At the same time, Kozlov has been wreaking havoc on both Triple H and Hardy on Smackdown. Will the fans want to see an entertaining Triple Threat match instead of another Hardy vs. HHH solo match? Time and voting will tell...

As for the Santino Marella Cyber Sunday match, fans can vote on the current IC champ's opponent. You'll recall that over the past several weeks on Raw, Santino has been claiming he is the greatest Intercontinental champ of all time and will go down in WWE history as such. He displays the "Honk-a-Meter" on the screen to let everyone know how many weeks he has left to top the Honky Tonk Man's record of 50 some weeks as IC champ. Wouldn't you know it, WWE gives fans 3 opponents from WWE history from which Santino's PPV opponent will be selected. The choices: Roddy Piper, Goldust, and of course, The Honky Tonk Man. Would it make sense for anyone but Honky Tonk to win here? There's a slight chance for Piper, but if WWE has lead fans properly, expect to see the legendary Honky Tonk Man face off with Santino.

The main issue this year with voting will be that voting is only done via texting a choice to 44993. Each vote costs .99 cents plus standard text messaging/cell phone rates. So basically, WWE is charging fans to vote and charging for the Pay-Per-View. If there's 5 plus matches at Cyber Sunday, a dedicated fan has to shell out $5 to vote for each. WWE might consider giving fans who do that a discount on the Pay-Per-View or a few ringtones, or some sort of Cyber Sunday merchandise package in the mail. Luckily, the WWE hasn't tried to fool fans into paying to vote in the November Presidential elections, yet...

What do you think of this year's Cyber Sunday format and will you be voting? Feel free to sound off below!

At the last PPV, Unforgiven, Hardy and Henry battled again over the title, with Matt able to pick up the victory and retain his title. Mark Henry again declared himself #1 Contender and asked Teddy Long to put him in a rematch for Cyber Sunday. Long shook things up when he announced fans will choose Hardy's opponent, with Henry being one of three possibilities. During ECW's show, Long had two more matches to determine the other two choices with newcomer Evan Bourne and the fighting Irishman, Finlay taking the other two spots. Kane continued posing the question "Is he alive or dead?" and fans were finally made privy to the contents of Kane's burlap sack. Kane announced he had crushed Rey Mysterio and had his mask in the bag! However, Rey returned to action and was part of a Championship Scramble match which also involved Kane. The two did battle at the last WWE PPV, Cyber Sunday, with a DQ decision. In the past few weeks on Raw, Kane and Rey have been facing off in tag team matches and seem hungrier than ever to compete with one another. This time they will have the surprise of fans choosing the type of match they compete in! Will it be a Falls Count Anywhere match, No Holds Barred match or Best 2-out-of-3 Falls match? You decide!

Choose Rey vs. Kane's match type:

Fans choose match type

Over the past few months, the Undertaker has returned from his banishment from WWE by Vickie Guerrero to wreak havoc on her and La Familia. Taker has been in search of Vickie's soul, but at No Mercy, Vickie had the help of new ally, the Big Show, to fend off Undertaker. The two met in a match at Unforgiven, with Big Show delivering a vicious knockout punch to the back of Undertaker's head, winning the match by TKO. Despite this, the Deadman continues to show up and cost Big Show matches, putting him on notice that there's impending doom heading his way. The fans will be voting on this match in some capacity for Cyber Sunday, as the stipulation will be announced on the 10/17/08 episode of Smackdown. What will the stipulation for this match be? You decide!

Fans choose match type*:

Knockout Match
I Quit Match
Last Man Standing Match

*Voting for this match will be done at WWE.com. Visit the Undertaker vs. Big Show match preview page for more details!

Cyber Sunday Tag Team Match
Fans decide which tag teams fight

The WWE Universe also gets to choose a tag team match for the Cyber Sunday card. In this voting, there are three possible tag team matches to choose from. Mickie James and Jamie Noble may team up in a mixed tag battle against King William Regal and Layla. For weeks, Noble had been trying to impress Layla, only to be humiliated by King Regal. Now, Mickie James has become his recent friend and could be on his side at the PPV. Another choice involves Cryme Tyme vs. The Miz and Morrison. These tag teams began feuding via online, with it carrying over to Raw over the past few weeks. Will fans give these tag teams the ring on Cyber Sunday? The final choice is a match for the World Tag team titles, pitting CM Punk & Kofi Kingston against Cody Rhodes & Ted Dibiase. Will Punk and Kofi get a shot at the gold? You decide!

Fans Choose Tag Team Match:

Batista came down to the ring wearing his World Heavyweight Championship belt. Batista spoke about his tough childhood and surviving all sorts of fights from then up til now. Batista said he finally defeated the Undertaker in a match, which is something he wasn't sure he'd ever do. Batista said they are now even and tonight they can team up. Batista posed the question to Undertaker asking if he has his back tonight. Just then the Undertaker's bell tolled and the area went dark. As the lights came on, Undertaker stood in the ring with Batista. Taker with a mic in hand told Batista tonight he's got his back because Batista still has the one thing he wants. Batista told Undertaker if he wants a rematch he's got it. Batista started to back away and then Undertaker called his name saying "Hell in a Cell".

Jamie Noble shown in the backstage hall reading WWE magazine. Vickie Guerrero came walking up to him and Noble started to get irritated that Vickie was going to put him into the Hell in the Cell match with Batista and Undertaker. Instead Vickie said she had a gift for him and gave him the new Rey Mysterio dvd. Vickie told Jamie he'll need to study it since tonight his opponent will be Mysterio.

Early on Noble dropped Mysterio to the mat in an arm hold. Mysterio was able to get up on Noble's shoulders to try to flip him down. Noble recovered and hit Mysterio with a knee to the gut. Mysterio was able to get a headscissors on Noble in the ring then knocked him to the ropes for a 619. Noble slid out of the ring before Mysterio could use the move, so Mysterio went out to retrieve him. Finlay stood up briefly to watch. Back in the ring, Noble was able to pick up Rey on one shoulder then spin him and drop him neck first on the top rope. Mysterio landed outside the ring and Finlay applauded.

When Kane got up near the ropes, MVP delivered a solid boot to him knocking Kane out of the ring. Hornswoggle helped Foley through the match, as he did moves on Coach including punches and pokes to Coach's eyes. Hornswoggle asked Foley to bring out Socko, and Foley brought out a green version which he used to place the mandible claw in Coach's mouth. With Coach layed out on the mat, Hornswoggle climbed the corner ropes and splashed him. Foley then pinned Coach to pick up the victory. After the win Foley gave a miniature green Socko to Hornswoggle.

Winner: Mick Foley wins via pinfall over Coach.

Early on Palumbo dropped Dykstra to the mat. Dykstra got back up and Palumbo clotheslined him down. Palumbo threw Dykstra to the ropes and knocked him down again. Palumbo stayed in control slamming Dykstra backwards. Dykstra slid out of the ring to recover and Palumbo went out after him. Michael Cole confirmed that Undertaker will challenge Batista for the title at Survivor Series in a "Hell in a Cell" match.

Taker went to chokeslam both men but they fought out. Batista got back into the ring and was able to spear Henry down. Taker started to fight with Khali. Just then out of nowhere JBL rushed into the ring and attacked Batista knocking him down to the mat. Taker tried to chokeslam JBL but JBL kicked him in the groin. This allowed Mark Henry to put Batista into a bearhug and Khali to put a vice grip on Undertaker's skull. Both men lay on the mat with JBL yelling to Michael Cole that nobody puts their hands on him and gets away with it.

WWE Smackdown Preview 11.02.07

Cyber Sunday saw several key matchups involving Smackdown superstars this past Sunday. Tonight's episode of Smackdown should feature more in these feuds including Undertaker vs. Batista, Rey Mysterio vs. Finlay and Matt Hardy vs. MVP.

Matt Hardy was unable to compete at Cyber Sunday, forcing a new match to be scheduled involving Kane vs. MVP for the United States Championship. Kane won the match, but not the title, as he kicked MVP out of the ring for a 10 count. Will Matt Hardy be present on tonight's Smackdown? Will Kane become the new contender for MVP's title now?

Rey Mysterio was able to finally extract his revenge on the fighting Irishman, Finlay. During Cyber Sunday, Rey knocked out Finlay on a stretcher, then pushed him across the finish line to pick up the win. Will Finlay look to continue this feud with Mysterio, or will Rey have his sites set on a title now, such as the US title or World Heavyweight title?

Finally, there is the continued feud between Undertaker and World Heavyweight champ, Batista. Batista finally got the victory over Taker at Cyber Sunday, in their fourth showdown. Undertaker will still be hungry to take his title back, so don't expect him to back away from The Animal anytime soon!

Tune in to Smackdown tonight on the CW network at 8PM EST for all the action!

Cyber Sunday Thoughts

Cyber Sunday is one of the cooler Pay Per View formats there is for WWE, in that the fans get to decide the matches. However, it seems like the WWE set up at least a few of these contests to "fool the fans". The biggest example would be the Michaels vote, as it would be tough to see him losing the popularity contest. Now if Triple H had been in the mix, it would be a different story. HBK won the match over WWE champ, Randy Orton, but didn't claim the title, which was a theme throughout the event.

Stone Cold Steve Austin also rocked the Vote, and the ring, when he stunned both Mick Foley and JBL prior to the match. I'm a fan of Stone Cold, his personality and in-ring antics, and he's always good for a few stunners here or there. Amazingly, he has yet to stun Santino Marella, but you know it's coming. It's good to see Austin involved in PPV's still and he had the highest vote percentage of anyone on the card, showing how powerful a star he is still.

The Diva Halloween costume had some creative costumes. Torrie Wilson is usually a fan favorite, but Mickie James took the vote. Now if Torrie had dressed like Victoria or Kelly Kelly, the vote may have been different.

It was also good to see the new matches added. Kane defeated MVP in a bout (due to Matt Hardy's injury), but didn't get the US title. Mr. Kennedy defeated Jeff Hardy, but didn't win the Intercontinental title. I see Mr. Kennedy capturing the IC title next though, so possibly he does that at Survivor Series or on an edition of Raw.

The only match I expected to go differently was the Undertaker v Batista, because it seemed like Undertaker was supposed to have the belt for a while until his unfortunate injury. However, the WWE may have changed its mind for his title reign for a little while. The popular rumor is that he will retire at Wrestlemania, so possibly he gets the belt prior to the event, or goes out on a high note winning the title there and then vacating.

I found it humorous and great that the fans voted The Miz into the Pay Per View. The buzz around the wrestling sites, blogs, rumor mills was that Morrison would capture the vote and then the ECW title. However, with The Miz getting voted in, the fans may have held off the WWE's plans for that title change, at least for a few days or until the next Pay Per View.

WWE Cyber Sunday Results

The Cyber Sunday Pay Per View has officially ended. Here's the full fan voting for each match and brief match recaps for the big event!

Rey Mysterio vs. Finlay (Stretcher Match)

Voting: Stretcher - 40%, Shalleleigh on a pole - 24%, and 36% for No-DQ.

A hard fought contest with both men, but in the end Rey Mysterio was able to lay Finlay out on a stretcher, then somersault onto him. As per the rules, Mysterio then pushed the stretcher frantically until he crossed the finish line for the win!

Winner: Rey Mysterio wins the stretcher match over Finlay.

The Miz vs. CM Punk (ECW title)

Voting: The Miz - 39% Big Daddy V - 28%, Morrison - 33%.

In what may be considered a surprise vote, The Miz captured 39% of fan votes to Morrisons 33% and got to square off with the ECW champion. After an attempted pinfall, The Miz went for the Reality check on CM Punk, but Punk was able to escape and hit the "GTS" to pick up the victory and retain his title!

Winner: CM Punk wins via pinfall over The Miz to retain the ECW title.

Mr. Kennedy vs. Jeff Hardy (non-title)

Todd Grisham announced the voting for the WWE title match as HBK - 59%, Jeff Hardy - 31% and Mr. Kennedy - 10%. Grisham announced that the two runner-ups would face off in a match, meaning Hardy vs Kennedy in a non-title bout.

With Jeff Hardy in control of the match, he used a reverse kick and tried to land another kick to Kennedy's chest. Kennedy avoided it and Jeff crashed back-first to the mat. Out of nowhere, Mr. Kennedy rolls up Jeff Hardy for a surprise pinfall victory!

Winner: Mr. Kennedy wins via pinfall over Jeff Hardy.

Kane vs. MVP

Voting: Kane - 67%, Great Khali - 24%, Mark Henry - 9%.

Due to the fact Matt Hardy was injured with 35 stitches he was unable to compete, so fans got to vote for MVP's new opponent. Kane beat out Mark Henry and Great Khali in the vote and got to face the US champ. In control of the match, Kane was able to get MVP to the corner of the ring and deliver a strong boot to knock him out of the ring. MVP remained out of the ring for a count of 10, giving Kane the victory but not the US title!

Winner: Kane wins over MVP due to countout.

Shawn Michaels vs. Randy Orton (WWE title)

Voting: Shawn Michaels - 59%, Jeff Hardy - 31%, Mr. Kennedy - 10%.

Shawn Michaels won the popular vote to face Orton for the WWE title. Michaels was in control of the match, hitting an elbow drop off the ropes. Just as HBK was about to go for a Superkick, Randy Orton dropped to his knees on the mat and delivered a low blow to HBK getting himself disqualified. After the match, Orton went to deliver a kick to HBK's head as he did many months ago. However HBK avoided and used Sweet Chin Music, knocking Orton out again!

Winner: Shawn Michaels wins due to disqualification of Randy Orton.

Umaga vs. Triple H (Street fight)

Voting: Streetfight - 57%, Cage - 26%, First Blood - 17%

In a tough street fight, Umaga landed a serious splash on Triple H outside the ring on an announce table. However, The Game was far from done as Umaga brought him back into the ring. Umaga went for another splash and this time HHH moved away, then went out to grab the sledgehammer. Back in the ring Umaga is able to stop him before he can use the item. Umaga then went for the Samoan Spike, but HHH ducks and hits a pedigree to get the pinfall victory!

Winner: Triple H wins via pinfall over Umaga in the Street Fight.

Diva Halloween Costume Contest

During the event, fans were shown the divas in their various costumes backstage. Maria dressed up as a pussy cat and Victoria is dressed up like a sumo wrestler. Brooke was a jungle girl and Jillian was Britany Spears. Michelle McCool was Eve from the Garden of Eden and Melina was dressed up as a Las Vegas showgirl. Mickie James was dressed in a Native American costume while Torrie Wilson tried to please the hometown fans by wearing a Washington Redskins jersey. Fans were able to vote for the winner who was announced later in the event.

Winner: Todd Grisham informed Mickie James backstage that she won the fan voting in the Halloween costume with 21% of votes.

Undertaker vs. Batista
World Heavyweight Title
Special Ref: Stone Cold

Stone Cold - 79%, Mick Foley - 11%, JBL - 10%.

Stone Cold Steve Austin won a landslide vote to be the special referee with nearly 80% of the fan votes. Prior to the match, Mick Foley and JBL both argued in the ring, but Stone Cold made his way down the ring. Austin delivered the stunner to the other 2 men and then the match began!

Undertaker and Batista again gave all they had to the fight, with the Phenom using a Tombstone and the Last Ride to try to win it. Despite this, Batista escaped a pin attempt and was able to get the victory over Taker as he nailed him with the Batista Bomb followed by a 3 count!

Strong: Batista wins via pinfall over The Undertaker to retain the World Heavyweight title.

No title changes tonight and some interesting extra matches added in at the last moment. Stay tuned to WWE.com and Raw on Monday at 9PM (USA) for more details and fallout from the matches!

Cyber Sunday Predictions

The highly interactive Cyber Sunday Pay Per View allows the loyal fans of the WWE the right to vote on match types, wrestler opponents and stipulations (including Guest Referees). Although the matches aren't officially announced until the card is in progress, here are my predictions which include what I think the match will be and who will be victorious for each contest.

Triple H vs. Umaga (Cage match)

- As mentioned earlier in the Cyber Sunday card predictions, the Steel cage match is a WWF/WWE fan favorite since its early inception. Fans will vote to see HHH battle the Samoan Bulldozer inside the tall walls of a steel cage. Triple H will emerge victorious from this one, because he's been on a roll at Pay Per Views (except his loss to Orton at the end of No Mercy).

Prediction: Triple H escapes a steel cage to defeat Umaga.

Rey Mysterio vs. Finlay (Stretcher match)

- Fans enjoy hardcore style matches, so this may end up being the No DQ, however a strecher match is more brutal (no disrespect to the recovering Candice Michelle). In this one Rey should be victorious as he is most likely on a quest to go after MVP or whoever owns it's US title.

Prediction: Mysterio sends Finlay out on a stretcher, but Finlay won't attack like last time.

Matt Hardy vs. MVP (Mixed Martial Arts)

This match is a bit of a question mark due to Matt Hardy's recent injury. Something tells me fans want to see a different style match at the PPV with a bit of MMA. It may end up traditional wrestling, but won't be the boxing match for sure. Over the past months, these two have been tag champs yet constantly trying to outdo each other. Usually the way it works is Matt Hardy has won every individual competition. Unless MVP cheats in this one (like he did in pushups), then Matt Hardy takes the win, so he can continue to tell MVP he deserves a shot at the US title.

Prediction: Matt Hardy wins over MVP in a Mixed Martial Arts match.

CM Punk vs. John Morrison (ECW title)

While I'm hoping Big Daddy V wins the vote, it will most likely be the "Tuesday Night Delight", John Morrison. Some believe that Morrison will recapture the ECW title here, since he lost abruptly to CM Punk then served a suspension. I feel Punk may lose the match somehow, but keep his title so it will extend their ECW feud. Possibly a DQ occurs in the match, or a countout so Morrison can claim he had the title won but didn't get it, and Punk can say he didn't get the job done.

Prediction: Morrison will win via DQ or countout but Punk keeps his title.

Undertaker vs. Batista

(World Heavyweight Championship)

Another tough one to pick. I believe most fans will agree, Stone Cold will easily be the referee here. If Santino Marella becomes involved in this match, it will really ruin it though. I do predict Marella gets a stunner sometime during the event, as he will probably start insulting "The Condemned". Undertaker takes the World Heavyweight belt back here. It should be the only title change we see, but Taker will not be denied and has been pretty dominant when facing Batista. Of course they may try to draw out the feud and have this result in yet another draw. It will be interesting to see how Stone Cold plays into things though.

Prediction: Undertaker wins back his World Heavyweight Title from Batista.

Shawn Michaels vs. Randy Orton (WWE Title)

No way the WWE will have Orton giving up the title to HBK here. It's way too soon for this, and Orton needs to become established as the top heel for a while to battle the likes of HBK and Triple H (possibly in some Triple threat matches). This will probably make for a great overall match with HBK giving his all, but he will fail to capture the victory. Since HBK's scored Sweet Chin Music 3 times in a row and we've yet to see an RKO on HBK, this is where it happens.

Prediction: Orton wins using the RKO to pin Shawn Michaels and keep the WWE title.

Halloween Costume Contest is yet another popularity vote, but if Torrie Wilson's in it, shes the fan favorite. Wouldn't be surprised to see Lillian Garcia take it with some wild outfit, since she's trying to promote her new album too. Check back here later Sunday night for full results from the Pay Per View!

Fans feel free to leave your brief comments about picks. Lengthy comments or comments with profanity will not be accepted.

MVP manages to tag in when Rey forces Matt to his corner. MVP begins to beat up Mysterio, but Mysterio starts to use kicks on MVP. Rey lands the headscissors move on MVP and tags in Finlay, as MVP tags in Hardy. Hardy is able to hit Finlay with several shoulder blocks but Finlay tags Mysterio back in. Hardy nails a hard clothesline on Rey followed by slamming him to the mat. After an elbow drop, Matt scores a near pinfall but Rey kicks out at 2. MVP is tagged back in and starts to kick Rey several times. Rey escapes and dropkicks MVP, then tags in Finlay. Finlay hits MVP with knees to his back and tries for a pin but fails. Finlay tags Rey back in and he does a springboard off the ropes onto MVP. Rey climbs to the top ropes but MVP gets him. As he attempts a move at MVP, MVP slams him down. All four men get into the ring at once and begin arguing with one another as Smackdown hits commercial break.

Smackdown returns with Hardy punching away at Finlay in the corner of the ring. Matt tags in MVP, but Finlay takes him down by the leg. Finlay tries to make a tag to Rey, but Rey backs away to not allow it. MVP is able to ram Finlay to the corner but Finlay hits MVP and finally tags in Mysterio. Rey nails a dropkick on MVP and gets the near pinfall. Rey locks in a scissor choke but MVP counters into a leg lock. Rey finally gets to the ropes and MVP tags in Hardy. Hardy goes for a move but Rey nails a spinning kick to Matt Hardy's head and he begins bleeding profusely (see Matt Hardy injury update). Matt Hardy is able to land the Side Effect on Rey and goes for the Twist of Fate. Rey escapes and forces Matt towards Finlay to tag him in. Finlay attacks Matt's face due to the cut/injury he suffered, and lands a kick to his head. Finlay gets a hard clothesline on Matt and then makes the tag to Rey. Out of respect, Rey hesitates because of Hardy's injury. Rey continues with the match and lands a dropkick then tries for the 619 but MVP tags in. Rey knocks MVP down face first on the ropes with Matt Hardy and then lands a 619 on both men! Rey goes for a finishing move on MVP but Finlay ambushes his partner, nailing Rey with the shillelagh. MVP hits Rey with his finishing move, the Playmaker for the win.

Winners: Matt Hardy and MVP via pinfall over Finlay & Rey Mysterio.

Backstage, ECW GM, Armando Estrada and Samckdown's GM, Vicky Guerrero are talking business. As Armando leaves Jaime Noble enters the office to try to play up to Vickie again. This time Noble starts hitting on her so Vickie decides to give him another match, tonight he will face Batista. Noble becomes flabbergasted as he is forced to go out and compete with the World Heavyweight champ.

Jamie Noble vs. Batista

In a very quick "tune-up" match for Cyber Sunday, Batista withstands Noble's attempt to attack him early. Batista spears down Noble, then finishes him off fast with the Batista Bomb, making this the third straight week Noble has been destroyed in a few minutes by his opponent.

Big Daddy V vs. John Morrison vs. The Miz (ECW Triple Threat)

A triple threat matching featuring the 3 possible opponents for CM Punk at Cyber Sunday. Starting the match, John Morrison pushes Miz into Big Daddy V and Big Daddy V starts to pummel the Miz. Morrison tries to attack Big Daddy V, but V is able to drop Morrison to the mat easily. Big Daddy V is able to send both men to one ring corner and then splashes them both at once. V clears the ring as he clotheslines both Miz and Morrison out. Outside the ring Big Daddy V tries to run at Miz and Morrison to attack, but they avoid him and V hits the ringpost. With V knocked out outside the ring, Morrison and Miz get back in the ring to fight it out. Morrison gets the headlock on Miz but Miz escapes and pushes Morrison to the ropes. Despite Miz starting to dominate and prepare for a victory, Big Daddy clotheslines the Miz then re-enters the ring. V slams Morrison back to the mat then uses a sideslam followed up by a huge elbow drop on The Miz to pick up the pinfall victory.

Winner: Big Daddy V wins via pinfall (on Miz) to defeat Miz and John Morrison

Festus tags Jesse and they are able to do their Rocket Launcher finisher as Festus tosses Jesse off the corner ropes onto their opponent for a pin.

Winners: Jesse and Festus win via pinfall over Joe Hennig & Steve Fender.

After a commercial break, JBL is in the ring lobbying for the fans to vote him in as special referee for the Batista vs Undertaker match at Cyber Sunday. JBL has a video shown on the Titantron where he makes fun of both Steve Austin and Mick Foley. JBL then has T-shirts which were made up saying "Vote for JBL" and he tosses several out to the fans. JBL makes sure to hold on to 1 shirt so he can give it to Undertaker during the interview.

The Undertaker comes out and JBL says he will make sure Taker wins at Cyber Sunday, then offers Undertaker the t-shirt. Undertaker refuses the gift and JBL takes off his coat and hat. JBL continues to try to offer the shirt but Taker refuses it. JBL then mentions to Undertaker that he has beat him many times, and this results in Undertaker slamming JBL down with the chokeslam. Batista comes out from backstage and down to the ring. Batista spears Undertaker and leaves the ring, but Taker sits right back up and they stare down as Smackdown goes off the air.
