Smackdown Recap 07.04.08

Smackdown Recap from Tulsa, OK:

Smackdown opened with MVP's VIP Lounge featuring his guest, recent new Smackdown member, Triple H. MVP tried to brag about being the highest paid wrestler in the WWE, saying he makes about two times what Triple H does. Triple H remarked he'd rather be a 12-time champion than the highest paid. MVP then introduced highlights of what went down on Raw involving Edge, Batista and CM Punk eventually winning the World Championship title. HHH and MVP began to make Edge/Punk puns and jokes about what happened, but Smackdown GM Vickie Guerrero came out to stop them.

From the top of the ramp Vickie tried to speak, but Triple H interrupted to congratulate her on her wedding. HHH then joked that Edge is a smart guy to date the boss so he can get ahead. After a few more jokes, Vickie became enraged and told Triple H in 2 weeks he will be defending his title against Edge at the Great American Bash.

Golden Dreams Divas Match

In an important divas match, Michelle McCool, Maryse, Victoria, Kelly Kelly and Cherry squared off. The winner would be the first diva to climb the corner ropes and retrieve a star hanging from a pole. That diva gets to face Natalya for the Divas championship.

Natalya took a seat at the commentary table with JR and Mick Foley for the match. As the 5 divas battled it out they continued to knock each other down from the corner. Victoria got to the corner and began to battle it out with Michelle McCool. Kelly Kelly came over from the apron to knock both divas off the corner to the outside. Maryse was still in the ring with Cherry down. Maryse ran over and kneed Kelly off the apron, then went to climb the corner. Michelle McCool got back up on he apron in time to come over and kick Maryse off the corner. Michelle then made the quick climb to retrieve the star. It will now be Michelle McCool vs. Natalya for the Divas Championship.

Winner: Michelle McCool wins the Golden Dreams divas match to become a contender for the Divas Championship.

Backstage, Ryder & Hawkins visited Vickie Guerrero in her office. Vickie told the duo she was furious with them for allowing Edge to lose his title on Raw. In order to prove how upset she was, Vickie ordered the two to go to the ring and face Jesse & Festus.

An angry Edge was shown wheeling his luggage into the arena. WWE employees were hanging around and Edge gave them all evil looks as he walked through.

As Smackdown returned, JR and Mick Foley discussed the win streak of Vladimir Kozlov and had a highlight video shown. Mick Foley said he keeps asking who will be able to stop Kozlov in the ring?

Jesse & Festus vs. Ryder & Hawkins

Festus came to the ring dressed in a patriotic Uncle Sam costume including a beard and red and white striped pants. During the match, Jesse finally escaped to make a tag to his partner. Festus went wild in the ring using the opponents as a battering ram to knock one another off the apron. The match ended with Festus hitting the flapjack slam move on Ryder to pickup the pin.

After the victory, an angry Edge came storming down to the ring. Ryder and Hawkins knocked Jesse down from behind, then held him back in the corner. Since Festus was in his post-bell stupor, Edge was able to spear him down then viciously attack him with repeated punches. Edge retrieved a chair from the outside and used it to smash down over Festus' skull. As Edge, Ryder & Hawkins left the ring, Jesse went over to tend to his fallen partner Festus.

Smackdown returned with highlights of what Edge just did in the ring to Festus. Backstage, Edge met with his fiancee and Smackdown GM, Vickie Guerrero. The meeting ended with the couple becoming enraged and shouting at each other due to Edge's title loss. Vickie talked about Edge needing her permission from now on to go to Raw, and said she is still the boss. Vickie told Edge she's gone through a lot to help him get to where he's been. Edge called Vickie a fool before storming out of her office.

John Morrison vs. Jeff Hardy

Jeff Hardy made his Smackdown debut against one half of the tag champs. In a hard fought match, both men traded control of things. At one point, Hardy ran at Morrison in the corner to attempt a dropkick. Morrison took advantage by grabbing Jeff's legs and then tossing him out of the ring. Morrison continued trying to wear down Jeff by working on his hurt left arm. Jeff was able to take control again after Morrison jumped off the corner, but Jeff caught him with a midair Powerbomb. The two continued to battle it out with Morrison trying for his finisher. Jeff countered to hit a face first suplex, then the Swanton Bomb to win it.

Winner: Jeff Hardy wins via pinfall over John Morrison.

A highlight video was shown of WWE Diva Maria to announce the diva will be appearing soon on Smackdown.

Funaki vs. Umaga

Funaki had absolutely no offense in his contest against the Samoan Bulldozer. Umaga beat up Funaki around the ring enough to finally drag his lifeless body over to the corner. Smackdown's ruthless new member followed with a hipsplash in the corner and then the Samoan Spike to win it.

Winner: Umaga wins via pinfall over Funaki.

Backstage Edge tried to talk to Ryder & Hawkins about what happened with he and Vickie. A WWE staff member came up to tell Edge that Vickie wants to see him in her office. Edge got a strange look on his face then went to Vickie's office. Edge walked in and asked Vickie why she had to "summon him" since he's the reason she got the GM position. Edge said once he came back from injury, Vickie got the GM job. Edge added that he's really the GM of the show. Vickie told Edge due to him her neck and back are seriously messed up for the rest of her life. The meeting ended with Vickie screaming for Edge to get out. Edge left and closed the door, then turned around to go back. As Edge tried the door, he discovered it was locked and Vickie wouldn't let him back in. An enraged Edge kicked and pounded the door to no avail.

Chavo Guererro vs. Shelton Benjamin vs. Mr. Kennedy vs. Matt Hardy
US Championship Fatal Fourway

In an exciting contest four of Smackdown and ECW's best battled for Matt's title. Matt overcame tough odds after Chavo delivered his Tres Amigos suplexes. Matt was able to hit a Twist of Fate to finally plant Chavo on the mat, but Shelton got in the ring to try to leg drop on Matt. Matt rolled away and Shelton's leg drop went down on Chavo. Matt again went for the pin, but Kennedy came at him. Matt moved away again as Kennedy hit the fallen Chavo. Things finally ended as Shelton Benjamin tried to attack Matt again. Matt delivered a Twist of Fate on Shelton to slam him down onto Chavo, then took the pinfall to retain his title.

Winner: Matt Hardy wins via pinfall over Chavo Guerrero to retain the United States Championship.

WWE Rewind showed highlights from this past week's Raw where Edge made an appearance, was attacked by Batista and then lost his title to CM Punk.

A still angered Edge came down to the ring to close out the show with no theme music or pyrotechnics. In the ring, Edge spoke about the bad week he's had with losing his World Championship. Edge said he plans to defeat Triple H at the Great American Bash to win the WWE title for his 3rd reign. Edge began going on a tirade about the disrespect WWE staff has been showing him. Edge added that the one person who should be by his side, Vickie, is locking him out of her office. Edge said it was time to reveal some secrets about Vickie.

Just then, Vickie Guerrero appeared on the ramp and yelled for Edge to stop. Vickie told Edge to stop making things public and asked if he's lost his mind completely. Edge exited the ring and walked up the ramp to stand face to face with Vickie. Edge said he has just one more statement for her: "the wedding's off!" Edge went backstage as Vickie dropped to her knees on the ramp crying hysterically. Vickie continued her meltdown, tossing off her wedding ring and almost ripping her hair out.
