WWE Breaking Point 2009 Predictions
The 2009 WWE Breaking Point Pay-Per-View will feature what Vince McMahon calls a first of its kind in Pay-per-views. All of the main event matches will be decided via some sort of submission rules, meaning no pinfalls win, only submission moves. There's three matches that qualify for that stipulation, with DX facing Legacy in a "Submissions Count Anywhere", John Cena facing Randy Orton for the WWE Title in an "I Quit" Match, and CM Punk defending his title against Undertaker in the submission match. Other matches on the card will involve the WWE Unified tag team titles, ECW title and a grudge match between Kane and The Great Khali. Here's predictions courtesy of WWE Characters the Blog for this Sunday's Breaking Point event....Feel free to leave your own comments or match predictions below.
The unique Pay-Per-View takes place this Sunday in the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and is sponsored by the video game Batman Arkham Asylum. You can get full results updated throughout the PPV here at the blog starting Sunday at 8PM EST, up until 11PM EST when final results will be posted here.
The Miz vs. Kofi Kingston
A late addition to the card will see The Miz trying to make good on his promise to win the US Title. It wouldn't be a shocker if he somehow won, since Kofi's held the title for some time now. However, Kingston most likely retains to carry on the tradition of the US Title being held by wrestlers for longer than any other title these days.
Prediction: Kofi Kingston leaves Breaking Point still US Champ.
William Regal vs. Christian
William Regal has been seen showing off his Regal Stretch on various episodes of ECW on SyFy, while Christian hasn't really shown his hand when it comes to a submission move. That would lead you to think he has some trick in the bag that will come out at the Pay-Per-View. This isn't necessarily a win by submission match though, it's just that they've made a big deal of Regal's move. The downside for the current champ is he has to contend with Vladimir Kozlov and Ezekiel Jackson's presence on the outside. Christian finds a way to outsmart the foes again and leaves with his title.
Prediction: Christian retains the ECW title somehow, possibly a DQ finish.
Mark Henry & MVP vs. Chris Jericho & Big Show
No disrespect to Henry or MVP, as both are talented in their own rights, but this seems like a match where they needed to make a tag team that looked formidable, just to lose to Jericho and Big Show. At the last Pay-Per-View it was Cryme Tyme, and at this Pay-Per-View it will be Henry/MVP on the losing end. The Unified Champs will continue their bragging and boasting until there is some super team assembled at some point to defeat them. Expect a clean win here, probably a knock out by Big Show on MVP.
Prediction: Chris Jericho and Big Show retain the titles.
Great Khali vs. Kane
In their last encounter, Kane was surprisingly victorious. This will probably be the match people are least concerned with on the card, and it will see The Great Khali pick up the win to avenge Kane's actions against him and his translator Ranjin Singh. Kane will get cracked over the head with the Singapore Cane and pinned by Khali.
Prediction: The Great Khali wins after using the Singapore Cane on Kane.
D-Generation X vs. Legacy
It's unfortunate, but it doesn't seem like there's much else for Shawn Michaels and Triple H to do right now beyond feuding with Legacy. At the last Pay-Per-View, Legacy made its triumphant return to action and picked up the win. The feud didn't end there, and it's continued on through episodes of Monday Night Raw. Legacy probably needs a push about now to come off as effective heels, or future second generation superstars. I'll take Legacy with the win, making Michaels submit.
Prediction: Legacy wins by submission outside of the ring.
John Cena vs. Randy Orton
Orton has been downright dominant since he's won back the WWE Title, with wins over Triple H, John Cena, and Triple H + John Cena in a Triple Threat. Cena lost in his last attempt due to all that chaos, including Brett Dibiase rushing in to tackle the ref. Orton has the last laugh and last RKO on Cena this past Monday on Raw, as he drove Cena head first into a steel chair in the ring. Orton was also seen stuck in a submission hold by HHH on Raw. I'm going to go with John Cena to win here, since it seems he's bound to win at some point, and why not Breaking Point. Then again, Batista is set to appear on Raw this Monday, so possibly they're saving the title win off Orton for The Animal.
Prediction: John Cena forces Orton to quit and wins the WWE Title.
Undertaker vs. CM Punk
It's really really hard to see The Undertaker losing in this match. First point, it's rare that we see the Deadman tap out to anyone. Second point, this is really his first match back, and it'd be strange to see it go down as a loss. So unless, Punk uses some trickery (i.e. making the ref think Taker has tapped, knocking Taker out illegally so the ref calls for the bell, etc), then Undertaker has the match here. You have to believe Punk has something up his sleeve, but it's hard to pick against the Undertaker. Taker wins with the Hell's Gate Submission hold to become World Heavyweight Champion...But for how long this time?
Prediction: The Undertaker wins via submission over CM Punk to become World Champion.
(By the way you'll notice that the Intercontinental Title match originally scheduled for the event has been removed for some reason. It was originally going to be Dolph Ziggler versus Rey Mysterio, but John Morrison is the new champ, and Mysterio is currently serving a suspension)
