Latest WWE News & Notes
There's plenty going on within the WWE this past week. Let's check out what's happening with Raw, ECW and Smackdown as well as outside of the wrestling ring. Here's a recap of this week's news and some of the other more recent wrestling related headlines...
Chris Jericho was pelted by a DX glow stick during Raw in Sheffield, England. It wasn't shown on TV, but after he got hit in the face by the object he began provoking the crowd and that brought on more glow sticks being hurled at him. Check out the YouTube video here.
It's well known by now that TNA has signed Hulk Hogan to help promote their product. Also, WWE legend Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart debuted on TNA this past Thursday to face "Black Machismo" Jay Lethal in a singles bout. They've also televised a meeting involving TNA president Dixie Carter and the TNA wrestlers/knockouts, where Carter basically tells them to step up their performances because now is the company's time to make history. Should WWE worry?
Reportedly, Linda McMahon is doing quite will in her recent political campaign as her opponent Senator Chris Dodd is losing some ground. According to a recent Quinnipiac University Poll, in head to head matchups Dodd is losing 49 to 38 percent to his opponent Rob Simmons, and 43 to 41 percent to Linda McMahon. Read more here.
Surprisingly on ECW from Sheffield, England, William Regal did not capture the ECW title from Christian. It seems they were calling this Regal's last chance to win the belt from Christian, so it makes you wonder who the next contender will be, and also who will the next eventual champ be? Zack Ryder? Shelton? Tommy Dreamer? Vance Archer, or Yoshi Tatsu? Vladimir Kozlov and Ezekiel Jackson just haven't been pushed enough for that role.
WWE Superstars this week saw Matt Hardy defeat DH Smith by pinfall, Shelton Benjamin win against Zack Ryder by countout, and MVP defeat Ted Dibiase by pinfall. Both Hardy and MVP won using a surprise small package pin to grab the win after some distraction, while Ryder lost due to being distracted by WWE Diva Rosa Mendes outside the ring.
On Smackdown, Undertaker defeated Chris Jericho by submission in their first ever match against one another. Big Show came out to help Jericho attack Taker, but Kane came out as well to make a save. Next week, the Brothers of Destruction are reunited in a tag match against JeriShow. I've also seen rumors of a possible Triple Threat for the Unified Tag titles: DX vs. Undertaker/Kane vs. JeriShow....Could be interesting! We get a near preview of that on Raw, only swap in Cena for Kane.
Also on Raw, the show will be guest hosted by WWE legend, Rowdy Roddy Piper in Madison Square Garden. This is of course one week ahead of Survivor Series 2009!
A reminder that you can win tickets to Wrestlemania 26 in Arizona by heading to WGNAmerica.com and entering their contest.
