Smackdown Recap from Sheffield, England:
Smackdown opened with commentators Grisham and Striker talking up the match for tonight between Chris Jericho and Undertaker, their first ever. Also on tonight's episode, Rey Mysterio & Batista sign their Survivor Series match contract, and Dolph Ziggler challenges John Morrison for the Intercontinental title.CM Punk came out and began to talk down to the UK fans. He said all they can do is drown themselves in pints at the local pubs. Punk said the English used to rule the world but now are just as awful as Americans. He called the fans weak-minded and said he is perfect in every way possible. Punk let everyone know he's filed a formal complaint against referee Scott Armstrong about poor officiating. He then vowed to defeat R-Truth tonight and at Survivor Series, adding that he could beat everyone in the arena as well.
R-Truth vs. CM Punk
Before the match started, Truth said he filed a complaint that Punk isn't a real man because he came out to preach to the fans, and they'd rather see action. As the bell sounded Truth started his attack. Punk was quickly able to get him up into Go To Sleep, but Truth escaped it. He delivered a kick to Punk, then backdropped him out over the top rope. Punk crashed to the floor and Smackdown headed to a commercial break.Truth got on the top rope for a high risk move, but Punk was able to kick him in the ankle causing Truth to fall to the mat. Punk remained in control for several mnutes until Truth began his comeback. Truth missed thought on an attempted scissors kick, so Punk went for GTS again. This time Truth countered with an attempted roll-up pinfall. Punk sat down on Truth for a pin of his own using the ropes as leverage, with the ref not seeing it.
Winner: CM Punk wins via pinfall over R-Truth.
Mickie James was shown walking backstage when Layla came up to her. She told Mickie she should just leave. Mickie said she had a match next and told Layla to get out of her face. In the background, Michelle McCool was sneaking into Mickie James' lockerroom. Layla yelled at Mickie to remember that she had been warned.
Mickie James vs. Natalya
Early on, Natalya used a double leg takedown to get Mickie down to the mat. The match eventually moved outside the ring where Natalya managed to shove Mickie into the steel steps. Back in the ring, Natalya used a surfboard submission to stretch Mickie out. She started kicking away at Mickie in the ring corner, until Mickie fought back. Mickie hit a Hurricanrana from the corner followed by a clothesline. Natalya was able to toss Mickie to the outside. Mickie recovered back in the ring to hit a move from the top rope. Michelle McCool and Layla came down to ringside with some of Mickie's clothes in hand. They started to cut them up with scissors, distracting Mickie. This allowed Natalya to club her down from behind then apply the Sharpshooter, forcing Mickie to submit.Winner: Natalya wins via submission over Mickie James.
Josh Matthews spoke with the IC champ John Morrison backstage. Morrison said he's nervous about big challenges, but not as nervous as Ziggler is. Morrison said he thrives on challenges of this type. He said at the end of the match, Ziggler will be laying flat on the mat looking up at Morrison, who will still be your Intercontinental champ.
Finlay vs. Drew McIntyre
Prior to the match, McIntyre got on the mic and said he didn't let Finlay in the ring a few weeks ago, but tonight he's had a change of heart. He said he knows Finlay loves to fight, so tonight he'll see how he likes to be beaten in a match.Finlay started off by elbowing McIntyre right in the nose, then using European uppercuts on him. Drew delivered a kick to Finlay's chest, causing Finlay to get knocked outside the ring. The two men continued to brawl both in and out of the ring, despite the referee trying to restore order. He finally called for the bell to disqualify both men. They continued brawling though, with McIntyre hitting him with the shilaleigh several times. Finlay was eventually helped to the back by WWE referees and officials.
Winner: Match ruled a double disqualification when both wrestlers refused to heed referee's orders.
In the ring, commentator Matt Striker was on hand to host the Mysterio-Batista contract signing. Batista jokingly asked Rey how he's been doing and said it was good to see him. Mysterio wasn't amused and was ready to sign off on the match. Batista signed then shoved the contract to Rey's side of the table. Rey signed next. Batista pulled out another folder he had with him. He told Rey it had papers in it for a "Hold Harmless" agreement, which prevented Mysterio from suing Batista if he hurts him badly at Survivor Series. Rey refused to sign at first, with Batista getting angry and calling him a coward. Mysterio finally signed the agreement, then told Batista he'll be the one who gets embarassed at Survivor Series. Rey said Batista can't intimidate him. He pushed the table onto Batista, knocking it on top of him on the mat. Mysterio stepped over The Animal to exit the ring. Batista was furious when he finally got up.
John Morrison and Dolph Ziggler were shown walking on the split screen for their match up next.
John Morrison vs. Dolph Ziggler
Intercontinental Championship
Early on, Ziggler tried to avoid Morrison's attacks in a cowardly manner. Morrison eventually got his hands on Ziggler to hit a flapjack and then a legdrop, followed by a near fall. Morrison went to the corner ropes for a move but Ziggler tripped him up. Ziggler went for a pinfall getting just 2, then hit a gutbuster on Morrison before Smackdown took a commercial break.After the break, Ziggler was in control with a submission hold on Morrison. Morrison eventually escaped and ran at him in the corner, with Ziggler tripping him up. Ziggler kept on hitting elbow drops and other moves to target Morrison's midsection. Both men got into a punching match in the ring with the crowd yelling "yeah" and "boo" as each man swung at the other. Morrison was able to knock Ziggler down with a flying forearm. After a leg lariat, Morrison had a two count for his pinfall. Ziggler hit a facebuster after avoiding Morrison's Moonlight Drive. Morrison regained control and went for Starship Pain. Instead, Ziggler countered to try for a roll-up pinfall, using his feet on the ropes for leverage. The ref caught this and as Ziggler started complaining, Morrison hit a Flying Chuck kick. Morrison had a two count pinfall. Both men started fighting on the top rope area, and eventually spilled out of the ring together. Both men were down as the referee counted right to 10 for the double countout.
Winner: Match ended in a double countout.
Lisa Taylor vs. Beth Phoenix
The Glamazon took on another amateur local talent, this time Lisa Taylor from England. In this extremely quick match, Phoenix delivered some early forearm shots to Taylor's face, then a shoulder breaker. She hung Taylor upside down in a Tree of Woe, then did a neckbreaker. Beth finished things up with the Glam Slam for another easy victory.Winner: Beth Phoenix wins via pinfall over local talent.
Josh Matthews came into the locker room area where Chris Jericho was preparing for the main event. Matthews asked if Jericho was worried since this is his first ever match against the Dead Man. Jericho retorted by saying that Undertaker isn't really dead, and that he doesn't have any special powers either. Jericho said Undertaker can and will be beat.
It was announced that next week's show will feature a 2 out of 3 Falls match between John Morrison and Dolph Ziggler.
Chris Jericho vs. The Undertaker
Early on, Jericho tricked Undertaker into the ring corner where he started to attack. Taker recovered to grab Jericho and toss him into the corner for a beating. Undertaker hit a clothesline to knock Jericho over the top rope onto the outside floor. Jericho was back on the apron and got a legdrop done on him by Undertaker. Undertaker began to work on Jericho's left arm. Taker went for Old School off the ropes, but Jericho got up and pulled Taker down by his arm. Smackdown went to a commercial break.Upon the return to the show, Jericho was beating on Taker's head, keeping him down on the mat. Jericho hit a dropkick and had a 2 count pinfall. Jericho briefly applied a chin lock then knocked Taker to the outside with a kick. After Taker was back in the ring, Jericho started to choke him on the middle rope. The two began going punch for punch, with Taker winning that battle. He hit Snake Eyes on Jericho, but Jericho avoided the big boot by dropkicking Taker down. Not much later, Taker was able to connect on the big boot to bring Jerico down.
In the corner area, Taker picked up Jericho for the Last Ride. Jericho escaped it and hit Codebreaker. Jericho slowly made the cover for a 2 count. Jericho began to go for a piledriver on Taker, who countered and went for the Tombstone. Jericho ecaped that and hit the Lionsault. Jericho sat up, but so did Taker, grabbing Jericho by his throat. Jericho countered it and went for Walls of Jericho, locking it in. Taker struggled and was able to turn things around, reversing the move into a Hell's Gate submission. Jericho tried to reach the ropes to break it, but couldn't so he was forced to tap.
Following Taker's win, Big Show arrived to the ring to attack. He and Jericho started to doubleteam the Phenom in the ring. The Big Red Machine Kane came to help his brother. Big Show exited the scene, and Jericho received another big boot. Jericho soon escaped after that.
Winner: The Undertaker wins via submission over Chris Jericho.
Backstage, Vince McMahon was watching the match and aftermath on a monitor. He got on the phone to GM Teddy Long and proposed that next week The Brothers of Destruction face JeriShow in a tag match. Long agreed to it, saying he would be there next week, but was under the weather this episode. McMahon reminded him he's on probation still.
