Smackdown Recap 12.04.09


Smackdown Recap from Hampton, VA:

Smackdown opened with highlights from last week's main event: Chris Jericho vs Undertaker, with Batista doing guest commentary. Undertaker was in control until Batista snuck into the ring and clipped his leg. After a Jericho Codebreaker, The Animal repeatedly beat Undertaker with a steel chair. Matt Striker and Todd Grisham were on hand for Smackdown commentary saying that tonight Undertaker has called out Batista to confront him over what went down. Smackdown went into its first match immediately with CM Punk arriving to the ring with his new sidekick, Luke Gallows.

R-Truth vs. CM Punk

Punk managed to gain control heading into Smackdown's first break, as he and Truth wound up outside the ring. Punk shoved Truth into the ring post shoulder-first, causing an arm injury for Truth as commercials followed.

Later in the match, Punk suplexed Truth. Punk had a near fall with Truth kicking out at 2. Punk began using submission holds to wear his opponent down on the mat. Punk also began to trash talk the fans as well. Truth soon reversed Punk's suplex attempt, then mounted a comeback. Truth got a hip toss despite his arm still hurting. However, when he went against the ropes, Luke Gallows was there to trip him down. The ref immediately called for the bell for the DQ in Truth's favor.

After the bell, Punk instructed Gallows to continue beating up Truth. Punk then added a running knee in the corner, followed by Gallows double-arm tree slam to take out Truth.

Winner: R-Truth wins due to disqualification when Luke Gallows interfered.

Undertaker calling out Batista is coming up later on tonight.



Kane vs. Mike Knox

Early on, the Big Red Machine took Knox down with a shoulder tackle move, then used a front facelock on the mat. Kane scored a low dropkick on his opponent then a near fall. Knox was able to elbow Kane as he rushed him in the corner, then did a flying crossbody. After driving his shoulder into Kane's midsection he hit a huge splash on kane for a near fall of his own. Kane recovered and did a flying clothesline to take Knox down. From there he went for the Chokeslam, but Knox escaped. Knox tried a bicycle kick but Kane blocked it and Chokeslammed Knox for the pin.

Winner: Kane wins via pinfall over Mike Knox.

Backstage, Josh Matthews spoke to Chris Jericho and Big Show. Jericho said he won't allow his upcoming handicap match versus DX distract him during tonight's match against Cryme Tyme. Jericho then said he and Show plan to end DX at TLC. Jericho said Big Show's brute force with a chair will cause massive pain, as the hypocrite fans pull out camera phones to record the carnage. Jericho said HBK has a history of back problems and could see his career ended. Jericho said TLC match is the most dangerous contest in WWE history. Show threw a punch towards the camera which faded to black as Smackdown went to commercials.




Mickie James vs. Natalya vs. Beth Phoenix
Triple Threat #1 Contender Match

Michelle McCool and her pal Layla were on hand for the match wearing matching "Piggie James" shirts. The match would determine Michelle's future opponent for her title defense.

Early on, Mickie landed a hurricanrana on Natalya. Beth tossed Mickie to the outside. Beth and Natalya began shoving back and forth. Natalya finally got a side headlock locked in on Phoenix. Mickie James got back in, with the two heel divas again tossing her to the outside. They knocked heads right before a commercial break.

As the show returned, Natalya worked Mickie with a hold to stretch her arms back. Phoenix recovered in the corner of the ring. Natalya put a rear chinlock on Mickie. Beth came over with punches to Natalya to break things up. Later on, Beth broke up a pin, with Natalya trying for another one. Beth had Mickie up for a powerslam move, with Natalya dropkicking Beth in the back. Mickie got a near fall out of that. Natalya locked a Sharpshooter in on Mickie. Beth came over and broke up the hold then hit her Glam Slam on Natalya. Beth was ready for the pin but Mickie wisely dropkicked Beth to the outside, then stole the winning pin.afterward.

Winner: Mickie James wins via pinfall over Natalya to become #1 Contender for the Womens Championship.

Josh Matthews got in the ring to interview Mickie who said she felt like she was on top of the world now. Mickie said her goal was to once again become Womens champ but also take out Michelle mcCool. Mickie then directed her comments at McCool saying things have gone beyond personal. Mickie walked out of the ring with the mic to talk right in Michelle and Layla's faces. Mickie told Michelle she loves to talk, but Mickie will shut her up personally. After insulting Layla, Mickie shoved Michelle into the announce chair, then attacked Layla. Michelle recovered though, allowing her and Layla to attack Mickie back in the ring. To everyone's surprise, Maria made her return to come make the save. Maria attacked Layla. Michelle grabbed Maria by her hair, but Maria slapped McCool. Mickie pounced on Michelle to attack her, allowing Maria & Mickie to clear the ring.

Backstage, Batista was confronting GM Teddy Long about his decisions. Teddy said he really doesn't approve of how Batista treated Mysterio. Long said Mysterio should get a rematch on his terms, so next week its Mysterio vs Batista in a Street Fight. Batista said he'll hurt Rey again if the Hold Harmless agreement is still good. Batista added that Long is allowing Undertaker to call him out tonight. Long told Batista his hands are tied after what went down last week.

John Morrison walked into a locker room backstage where Matt Hardy was playing the Smackdown vw Raw 2010 video game. Morrison said he needs to create his opponent on the game for tonight, Drew McIntyre.




John Morrison vs. Drew McIntyre

With Morrison on the ring, McIntyre began taunting saying he let the IC title go straight to his head, because he challenged a guy who hurts people. Morrison shut up the speech with a punch to start the matchup.

During the match, Morrison got a Standing Shooting Starpress early. McIntyre came right back to the attack. McIntyre missed him with the big boot, so Morrison hit a bicycle kick. Later still, Morrison was on the apron, and Drew rammed him into the ringpost headfirst. Morrison fell near the crowd barrier, and back in the ring McIntyre unloaded on him. Drew put a submission moves on, including a Camel Clutch style hold to wear Morrison down. Morrison escaped it and tried to jump up on the corner to avoid McIntyre charging him, but McIntyre kicked him in the chest as Morrison fell to the mat. Smackdown went to a commercial break.

After the break, McIntyre had several near falls for 2 counts. Morrison finally started a comeback as he got to his feet using kicks and punch movies. Morrison hit a flying shoulder tackle followed by heel kick, then a 2 count pinfall. Morrison was favoring his rib cage after hitting a running knee on Drew. JMo went for the Flying Chuck kick with Drew tripping him to prevent it. McIntyre did a spinning backbreaker for a two count. Morrison came back to try his Starship Pain, but McIntyre rolled out onto the apron. McIntyre began to choke Morrison against the top rope, but Morrison used a kick move to send Drew to the outside floor. McIntyre rolled under the ring a bit, holding onto the steel support beam underneath so that Morrison couldn't get him out. McIntyre took the opportunity to slam Morrison head first into the steel area, then put him back in the ring to hit his double-arm DDT to win it.

Winner: Drew McIntyre wins via pinfall over John Morrison.




After commercial, Matt Striker thanked Switchfoot for providing the official theme song for TLC called "Bullet Soul".

Eric Escobar vs. The Hart Dynasty
2-on-1 Handicap match

In a match that lasted just over 2 minutes, Guerrero watched from ringside as Hart Dynasty went 2-on-1 against her former boyfriend. Kidd took out Escobar's leg early on, then tagged in Smith for some damage. DH hit the European uppercut. The Harts did frequent tagging in and out. Escobar finally came to life with a "sky-high" and got a near fall on Kidd. Smith returned to continue dishing out pain on Escobar, and finally the Dynasty hit their Hart Attack finisher to win.

Following the win, Vickie continued to berate Escobar as Smith held him for Vickie to slap. After that, Smith gave Escobar a hard kick to the gut.

Winner: The Hart Dynasty wins via pinfall over Eric Escobar.

CM Punk and Luke Gallows were backstage to talk to Josh Matthews. Gallows said his previous existence wasn't his fault and the people he was around forced him to walk around in a comatose state. Gallows said prescription pills lead to his stupor and comatose state he was in. Punk added that a miracle recovery can happen for anyone, anywhere but they will need help to make it happen. Gallows said Punk was the one who saved him, and he hopes other lost souls can incorporate the Straight-Edge nature into their life, seeing Punk as their savior also.




Cryme Tyme vs. Chris Jericho & Big Show

Another short match, this time highlighted the unified tag champs as they defeated Cryme Tyme in just over 3 minutes time. Early on, Jericho had a brief offense against JTG. JTG retaliated and Jericho recovered outside. Shad distracted Jericho allowing JTG to do a sliding dropkick to knock Jericho back down outside the ring. When Jericho was back in the ring he hit a back suplex on JTG. JTG started to make his comeback, and eventually both men were down on the mat. Both guys were able to make their tags, but Show came in to land a massive punch to take out Shad for the victory.

Winner: Chris Jericho and Big Show win via pinfall over Cryme Tyme.

Next up was the main event of Undertaker confronting Batista over last week's attack. Undertaker's traditional entrance started up with the Deadman arriving out to the arena. He made his way down the ramp but at the bottom he was attacked from behind by Batista who smashed a chair across his back. Batista continued the onslaught, as he tossed Taker into the steel steps and continued using the steel chair on him. Batista began choking Undertaker with the chair near ringside, then back in the ring delivered a chair shot to the Phenom's skull. Batista did a Spinebuster, then posed standing over Undertaker with his World Heavyweight title in hand. The crowd chanted "You Suck" before Batista posed on the middle rope area with the belt.

Smackdown closed out with a reminder of next week's Street Fight between Rey Mysterio & Batista.
