Raw Recap 04.05.10

Raw Recap from :

Justin Roberts introduced the brand new World Heavyweight Champion, Jack Swagger. Swagger arrived out in a business suit carrying the belt on his shoulder. Lawler and Cole discussed how Swagger cashed in his MITB shot this past Friday on Smackdown to pin Chris Jericho for the title. Swagger had them roll the footage of how he won the title.

Swagger talked about how he was going to cash in on John Cena last week, but decided to take on a competitor superior to Cena, Chris Jericho. Swagger said he could have defeated Cena quicker than Jericho, which was in nine seconds. Swagger said he now must consider giving his skills exclusively to Smackdown since nobody on Raw can compare to his abilities. Swagger continued his speech, but was soon interrupted by John Cena's theme music. The "other champ" arrived out to the ring.

Cena congratulated Swagger for cashing in and becoming champion. Cena told him the people are now looking forward to what Swagger will do. Cena said if Swagger's going to Smackdown he's leaving, and they'll be "so sorry to see him go." Cena brought up how Swagger said nobody on Raw is good enough to compete with him, but Cena called Swagger a liar. Cena told Swagger he's not championship material, because he didn't truly earn what he has. Cena told Swagger behind all that All-American bravado he's really a weasel. Cena told Swagger if this is his last night on Raw, to be a champ and face him tonight. Cena said he's so sure he can beat him he'll put the WWE Title on the line. Swagger responded saying it doesn't work for him, but was soon interrupted by Randy Orton's music.

Orton came down to the ring to join the conversation. Orton said if Swagger's a true competitor he'll want to face the man that beat him last week, Orton. Just then The MizShow's music hit and out came the unified tag champs. Miz said the show is not about Orton and Cena, it's about the Unified tag champions, the MizShow. Just as Miz was finishing his promo, out came David Otunga, tonight's Raw guest host. Otunga introduced himself as Mr. NXT David Otunga. Otunga said tonight's show will be A-List. He announced that Swagger will face Orton in the ring tonight. Otunga also ordered ShowMiz to defend the Unified tag titles against Batista, and his partner, Batista. Cena stared out as Otunga left the top of the stage. Orton tried to grab Cena from behind for the RKO, but Cena shoved him at Swagger. Orton hit the RKO on Swagger instead leaving him layed out.

Kofi Kingston vs. Sheamus

Sheamus dominated from the get-go, but Kofi made his comeback late in the match. From the side apron, Kofi landed a roundhouse kick to Sheamus, then did a springboard crossbody onto Sheamus. He chopped away at Sheamus, then came back from the ropes with a standing dropkick. Kofi jumped up on the corner to pound away on Sheamus, but as he flipped down, Sheamus came at him with a huge boot kick. He waited for Kofi to get up and hit another pump boot kick on him. From there, he brought him towards the corner then did his Razor's Edge style finisher.

After the match, Sheamus went outside the ring and grabbed a lead pipe. He got back in the ring to get Kofi to his feet, then clocked Kofi on the back of the head with the pipe.

Winner: Sheamus wins via pinfall over Kofi Kingston.

Triple H was shown walking backstage up on the Titantron, with Lawler saying it looks like The Game's on his way out.

Slam of the Week covered Triple H's emotional speech last week on Raw about Shawn Michaels. HHH said there was something about Shawn he never said before but wanted to say it now. Just then, Sheamus rushed HHH from behind and knocked him down with a steel pipe.

As Sheamus was still in the ring with his theme music going, he got on the mic. He spoke about Shawn Michaels' career coming to an end last week. He said it took Michaels 8 years to win the WWE Title, but only took Sheamus six months. Sheamus said he was supposed to cap it off by being victorious at Wrestlemania. Sheamus said HHH took his Wrestlemania moment away, so last week he attacked him with a steel pipe to leave him lying. Sheamus said Michaels left so he wouldn't have to face him. Sheamus said he doesn't believe Triple H has another great match left in him. Sheamus said he can leave with his head up high in glory, or he can leave in a wheelchair.

Just then, Triple H's music hit and The Game came down to the ring. HHH got up on the apron with Sheamus daring him to step in the ring. Instead of doing so, HHH dropped off the apron and went under the ring to retrieve the slegehammer. He rolled into the ring with it as Sheamus rushed him. HHH blocked a pipe shot with the sledgehammer, then rammed it into his gut. Sheamus fell to the mat then rolled to the outside. HHH chased him out near the commentators' table. HHH smashed at Sheamus but hit the TV monitor instead causing a bunch of sparks. Sheamus retreated through the crowd fast. Back in the ring, HHH got on the mic to say "isn't that like a silly Irishman, to bring a pipe to a sledgehammer fight?"

Up next is a WWE Divas Dress to Impress match, arranged by host David Otunga. Winner gets a WWE Divas title shot next week.

Raw returned with Cole talking up the latest WWE.com baseball theme called "Field of Themes". Joining the commentators at ringside was WWE Divas Champion Maryse.

WWE Divas Red Carpet Dress to Impress Battle Royal

Winner of this divas match receives a title shot against Maryse next week. Maryse made fun of the various divas' outfits on their way down to the ring. Competing in the battle royal were Eve, Kelly Kelly, Gail Kim, Bella Twins, Alicia Fox, Rosa Mendes, Katie Lea and Jillian Hall. First out was Rosa Mendes, followed soon after by each of the Bellas. Katie Lea and Gail battled for a bit on the apron before Kelly Kelly dropkicked them both off.

Kelly Kelly managed to get her headscissors spin move on Alicia, but then was picked up by Jillian and dumped out. Last three were Alicia, Jillian and Eve. Jillian and Alicia ganged up on Eve, but when they attempted a whip towards her in the corner, Eve moved away. Alicia hit the post shoulder first and Eve shoved her out of the ring. Jillian went for a handspring move towards Eve in the corner, but Eve jumped up on the corner and got on Jillian's shoulders. She stayed up on her near the ropes, with Alicia Fox getting on the apron. Alicia pulled Eve down to the apron, but Eve kicked Alicia back to the floor. Jillian saw Eve and rushed at her, but Eve dropped down and Jillian went out through the ropes. Maryse made insulting remarks as Eve posed from the corners.

Winner: Eve Torres wins the Divas Red Carpet Battle Royal and will get a WWE Divas Title shot against Maryse.

Raw returned to show a profile video about WWE NXT rookie and tonight's host, David Otunga. He talked about his Hollywood connections including finace Jennifer Hudson. Otunga mentioned he's been to the White House, has been to Harvard Law School, and that he doesn't have any weaknesses as a wrestler.

Otunga was backstage with a crew of guys, bragging about how great he is as the host. Otunga talked about how he had them bring in 127 M&M's, all green. Otunga said this show will be A-List from top to bottom. Santino came in asking where A-Team is. Otunga told him it's the "A-List". Santino said he thought Mr. T would be there, then did an impersonation. Otunga told him there's no Mr. T. Santino said if Mr. T was there he wouldn't let anyone do that to his M&M's. The camera cut over to the table where Hornswoggle was eating the green M&M's. Otunga yelled at him to put them back, and Hornswoggle spit some into the dish. One of Otunga's crew jumped over the table as Hornswoggle scurried under the table and then out of the room. Otunga sent his crew after Horney while Santino laughed it up.

The MizShow was shown walking backstage with their tag titles en route to the ring for the next match.

John Cena & Batista vs. The Miz & Big Show
Unified Tag Team title match

Batista took his time getting to the ring with the spotlight on him. Cena told the ref to ring the bell anyways, but they waited for Batista. In the early going, Cena took on Miz, then got clobbered by Big Show as Batista smirked from the apron. The Miz missed on his running corner move, so Cena went over for a tag to Batista. The Animal dropped off the apron and walked up the ramp. Miz came after Cena, but he turned around and clotheslined Miz down, then left the ring. Cena rushed up the ramp and grabbed Batista to start firing away on him. Batista fought back and eventually escaped backstage. The ref counted Cena out and gave the win to MizShow.

David Otunga arrived back out to the ramp. He told MizShow they won't get off that easy. Otunga said later tonight MizShow will defend their titles yet again. Otunga said since Batista and Cena can't get along, Cena will get a new partner for later, David Otunga. Cena looked at Otunga and eventually agreed with it, then made way so Otunga could go backstage.

Winners: The MizShow wins via countout over Cena & Batista.

Lawler and Cole reviewed highlights of the finish of the tag match that just happened with Batista and Cena fighting on the ramp.

Christian vs. Ted Dibiase

Dibiase arrived out carrying what appeared to be the Million Dollar Championship belt. Million Dollar Man was part of last week's Legends Lumberjack match between Dibiase and Christian. After Dibiase lost, his dad came into the ring to comfort him, but was shoved away.

Dibiase spoke about his dad's induction into the WWE Hall of Fame before Wrestlemania 26. Dibiase said last week his dad tried to do something he's never done before "act like a father." Dibiase said one act doesn't make up for all the other missed events in his life. Dibiase said his dad knows how to win him over, not through his heart, but through his bank account. Dibiase thanked him for the trust account and Million Dollar title.

During the match, Cole discussed the history of the Million Dollar Title, saying only two other guys besides Million Dollar man held the title, Virgil and The Ringmaster, Steve Austin.

In the closing moments, Christian set up Dibiase for the Killswitch. Dibiase countered and went for Dream Street. Christian countered that and went for Killswitch again, but Dibiase reversed it. He came off the ropes and went for a move, but Christian ducked it. Christian had a schoolboy nearfall. He and Dibiase battled in the corner, with Christian going for a Tornado DDT. Dibiase shoved him off the corner. Christian ran at him, but Dibiase moved and Christian hit shoulder-first. Dibiase soon hit Dream Street for the win.

Winner: Ted Dibiase wins via pinfall over Christian.

Michael Cole announced in 3 weeks on April 26th there will be the special 3-hour long WWE Draft 2010 edition.

They reviewed last week's Farewell speech by Shawn Michaels to the WWE Universe. After highlights of HBK's speech, they covered Sheamus and HHH's feud including their in-ring encounter earlier with a steel pipe and a sledgehammer. Triple H got the better of things with Sheamus eventually rushing out through the crowd.

Randy Orton was shown backstage on his way out for the next match. They showed highlights of Orton going for the RKO on Cena earlier, but getting one on Swagger instead.

Randy Orton vs. Jack Swagger

Out of a commercial break, Orton knocked Swagger down causing Swagger to roll to the outside. Orton gave chase and leveled Swagger around the side of the ring. As Orton rolled Swagger in, he got on the apron but Swagger beat on him, the ran against the ropes to knock Orton off into the crowd barrier. Swagger continued the punishment outside the ring. Back inside, Swagger put on an abdominal stretch to put Orton in agony. Orton escaped with Swagger putting the stretch back on, but Orton countered it and threw Swagger outside through the ropes. Swagger got back on the apron, and Orton was able to hit the DDT from the ropes. Orton had a nearfall with Swagger putting his leg on the ropes.

Orton continued with his momentum, hitting a Powerslam and backbreaker on Swagger, then slapping away on the mat waiting for Swagger to get up. Swagger stood up but shoved Orton off the RKO attempt. Swagger booted Orton in the head then went for the pin with Orton kicking out.
In the closing moments, Swagger hit several of his running Splash moves from off the corner. Swagger went for the Gutwrench Powerbomb, but Orton flipped out of it. From there he quickly hit the RKO and pinned Swagger for the second straight week.

Winner: Randy Orton wins via pinfall over Jack Swagger.

Next week's Raw guest host will be former Baywatch actor, David Hasselhoff.

John Cena & David Otunga vs. The MizShow
Unified Tag team title match

Otunga looked impressive early against Miz, with several knock down moves before tagging Cena back in. At one point, Miz distracted the ref, allowing Show to clobber Cena from behind, knocking him to the mat. Miz came over and beat on Cena before a near fall. Show soon tagged in to continue punishing Cena.

The MizShow continued their doubleteam onslaught against Cena. Cena finally got away for an attempted tag to his partner. Otunga dropped off the apron just like The Animal had earlier. With Otunga smirking from ringside, Big Show soon hit a huge righthand punch to KO Cena. Show took the pinfall to win the match. Batista came walking down the ramp past Otunga, then got in the ring to hit the Batista Bomb on Cena.

Batista got a mic and asked for his spotlight. Otunga was up on the ramp and said he's still the guest host, and now Batista has an announcement to make. Batista crouched down to inform Cena he's invoking his rematch clause for Extreme Rules PPV. The only way to win their match will be as Last Man Standing. Batista dropped the mic and stood up to stare down at Cena on the mat. Cole and Lawler looked at the highlights and then Batista posed from ring corners as Raw left the air.

Winners: The MizShow wins via pinfall over John Cena & David Otunga to retain the WWE Unified Tag Team titles.
