Wrestlemania 25 Match Predictions

Wrestlemania 25 Match Predictions

Wrestlemania 25 marks the Silver Anniversary of the granddaddy of all Pay-Per-View events. The four hour extravaganza will be held in Houston, Texas on the Reliant Center at 7PM EST, Sunday April 5th, 2009. This year's Wrestlemania matches feature almost all superstars in action, whether they be fighting in matches, acting as lumberjacks, or simply accompanying others to the ring. Five of the WWE's titles are up for grabs with the World Heavyweight, WWE Championship, Intercontinental Title, World Tag Team titles and WWE Tag Team titles all on the line. In addition, the tradition of having a Money in the Bank Ladder match continues as one superstar will climb a ladder high above all other opponents to grab the coveted Money in the Bank briefcase. That man will get a title opportunity for anytime, anyplace.

Let's take a look at match by match analysis and predictions for the huge Wrestlemania 25 card.

Miss Wrestlemania 25 WWE Divas Battle Royal

Twenty five divas in the ring is mindblowing, but WWE needed a role for its loveliest competitors. As of today there were about 18 divas announced to take part in this contest: Kelly Kelly, Katie Lea, Mickie James, Eve, Maryse, Gail Kim, Melina, Michelle McCool, Maria, Brie & Nikki Bella, Layla, Natalya, Tiffany, Jillian Hall, Beth Phoenix & Rosa Mendes. The winner of this match gets the illustrious title of "Miss Wrestlemania". WWE could go many ways with this one, perhaps making it come down to Beth vs. Rosa with Rosa winning it and starting off a new feud between the two. Or Gail Kim who just returned could eliminate Maryse. I think with the 7 remaining spots, depending on who they are, a divas legend seems most likely to win this event. If Trish Stratus, Lita, Sunny, or Victoria are in the event, I'd put odds on them. Even greater odds if Mae Young is in this match, which makes sense at this point, she's your winner. Which diva is really going to be responsible for tossing an 80 year old woman over the ropes and would WWE really allow a possible tragedy? Mae who's not as young as her last name will remain in the ring unscathed and manage to bump two fighting divas over the ropes. Mae Young, if she enters, gets the win and an honor befitting a woman who has been a longtime diva and worker for the company. If not her, Victoria, Trish, Lita or Sunny.

Prediction: Mae Young wins the 25 Divas Battle Royal to become Miss Wrestlemania.

Rey Mysterio vs.JBL
Intercontinental Title Match

JBL has claimed he will do something historic at this year's Wrestlemania. He first tried to be the man who would face Undertaker and end the undefeated streak, but Shawn Michaels beat him out on that one. JBL's kept quiet about what he will do, but many speculations point to JBL being the first competitor at Wrestlemania to defend a title at the event and then retire as champion. So if that goes according to plan, JBL wins it over Rey then promptly retires, hopefully setting up another tournament to determine the next champion. It would be unfortunate if the retirement of JBL means the retirement of the title though. The Intercontinental title is one that needs to stay in place as it's had a rich WWE history.

Prediction: JBL defeats Rey Mysterio by pinfall to retain the Intercontinental Title and retires as a champion.

8 Man Money in the Bank Ladder Match

There's been rumors and speculation floating around that CM Punk will become a back-to-back MITB winner and go on to cash in the briefcase for a major title again. His reign as World Heavyweight champion was brief and as far as I can remember he hasn't played the role of a heel yet. I'm not sure if he's ready for that role, as WWE has enjoyed his straight edge role model like character with WWE fans.

Competitors in the match along with Punk are Mark Henry, Kane, Finlay, MVP, Shelton Benjamin, Kofi Kingston and Christian. It's hard to see Shelton, Kofi, Christian or Finlay in a major title role, but they could always win and then lose the MITB opportunity somehow. Kane and Mark Henry are wildcards as both have been in major title roles.

That said, as of right now there's nothing going on at Wrestlemania for Jack Swagger and the ECW title. Seems strange that this rising star wouldn't get some sort of role for the big event, but then again he could be in the doghouse. I'll choose Christian to claim this year's MITB briefcase and cash it in right at Wrestlemania 25 for an ECW title match, defeating Jack Swagger.

Prediction: Christian wins the WM25 Money in the Bank match to cash in for the ECW title.

Jeff Hardy vs. Matt Hardy
Extreme Rules Match

This will mark the first official match between the brothers stemming from their current heated feud. It's an extreme rules match so everything goes and both these guys are no stranger to that sort of contest. Jeff seems like he's more likely to pull off a win after what happened to him by Matt over the past few months. But it's also the first match, and you'd have to think there may be a few more between them. Unless them end up sharing some brotherly love at the end of the contest, let's go with Jeff Hardy to get a much-deserved Wrestlemania victory.

Prediction: Jeff Hardy wins via pinfall over Matt Hardy in Round 1.

Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker

In this match, the Showstopper Shawn Michaels is attempting to end The Undertaker's 16-0 undefeated streak at Wrestlemania. The mind games have gone on for weeks which Michaels appearing to always get the best of Undertaker or escape his clutches. Due to that fact it seems more than appropriate that the streak will continue and Undertaker will pin Michaels to go 17-0. Taker's got some fuel left in the tank, and some have hinted he may retire at next Wrestlemania. Most likely someone like John Cena would be the guy to end his streak, but for now the streak lives.

Prediction: The Undertaker wins via pinfall over Shawn Michaels to go 17-0.

The Colons vs. Miz & Morrison
Tag Title Unification Lumberjack Match

In a move that should have been done a while ago by WWE, the two tag team titles will finally be united. One of these teams will be able to proclaim themselves the unified tag team champions. The feud has gone on for several weeks and also involves Brie & Nikki, the Bella twins. Brie has aligned herself with The Colons, while Nikki is hanging with Miz and Morrison. The other added factor is that this will be a Lumberjack match, most likely preventing Miz and Morrison from their usual trickery. It also gives all those other guys outside the ring a Wrestlemania 25 moment. Despite all that, I say Miz & Morrison pull off the win so they can continue their bragging as the best tag team of the 21st century, completely with both tag titles, and 2 Slammy Awards, plus both Bellas maybe?

Prediction: The Miz and Morrison win the tag title unification match to add both tag team titles to their impressive resume.

Chris Jericho vs. WWE Legends

Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat, Rowdy Roddy Piper and "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka will fight side by side in a historic contest to shut Chris Jericho up. For months Jericho has berated WWE legends, after first calling out Mickey Rourke. Rourke made it seem like he'd be wrestling Jericho at WM25, then backtracked. Next, Jericho tried to bait Ric Flair into coming out of retirement since he's a good pal of Rourke's. Flair called on his WWE legend friends to replace him, because it really takes 3 plus wrestlers to equal the greatness of the Nature Boy. In this match, everything's aligned for a Chris Jericho humiliating loss. The 3 legends he beat up and insulted will be facing him, while Ric Flair (despite his beatdown from Jericho) and Mickey Rourke will be right nearby. It seems like the match will provide some comical interactions in the ring and a possible sucker punch from Rourke and or Flair to help the legends. Afterwards you'll see 5 men (4 legends + 1 wrestling actor) in the ring raising their arms together with Jericho down on the mat.

Prediction: The WWE Legends triumph to earn a pinfall victory over Chris Jericho.

John Cena vs. Big Show vs. Edge
World Heavyweight Title
Triple Threat match

In this match you have two lovestruck feuding superstars and a man determined to get back the title Edge stole away in the Elimination Chamber. Big Show was revealed as a behind-the-scenes affair partner with Smackdown GM Vickie Guerrero, causing Edge all sorts of anger and rage. John Cena was the man to reveal the footage, prompting Edge to try to blame Cena. All three competitors have played plenty of mindgames with one another, and Vickie Guerrero will play the role of wild card. Will she align herself with Edge or Big Show following the match? Was it all a plan by her and Show or her and Edge? Or will Cena find a way to overcome these strange odds? Logic tells you that Cena will be the big winner and walk away as champion in a triumphant WWE moment. But last year at Wrestlemania 24, Orton retained his title while many expected Cena or HHH to win it. While you ponder all that, I'll go with John Cena as the victor, after Big Show chokeslams Edge or Vickie interferes, and Cena is able to grab a pinfall.

Prediction: John Cena pins Big Show or Edge to become World Heavyweight Champion.

Randy Orton vs. Triple H
WWE Title Match

This one's been building since 2004 (see Orton-Triple H Feud Timeline), starting with Orton being betrayed by Triple H and Evolution after he become the youngest World Champion in WWE history. Since then, Orton's been plotting and planning his revenge. Over the past months he's managed to win the Royal Rumble, punt kick both Vince and Shane McMahon out of action, RKO Stephanie McMahon once and clock HHH with a Sledgehammer in the head. Last Raw before Wrestlemania showed the return of Mr. McMahon and son Shane, so most likely they'll be on hand for this match at Mania as well. Expect them to handle Rhodes and Dibiase on the outside just like they did on Raw, while HHH extracts his much-deserved revenge on Orton in the ring, and retains his WWE Title. Perhaps an embrace with Steph follows and all McMahons hold their hands and heads high in the ring as Wrestlemania closes.

Prediction: Triple H wins to retain his title and the honor of the McMahon family name.
