Smackdown Preview 08.14.09
Tonight's episode of Smackdown features a third meeting between WWE Superstars John Morrison and former World Heavyweight Champ CM Punk on the show. John Morrison and CM Punk are no strangers when it comes to battling it out in the ring as they previously feuded over the ECW title in previous years. Both men have worn that title and the Intercontinental Title as well as a tag team belt. But only CM Punk has been able to capture the World Heavyweight Title, and he's done it twice. However, John Morrison continues to be on the more exciting superstars in all of WWE, with an arsenal of fast paced and high-risk maneuvers that he uses skillfully to take out opponents. Morrison failed in his attempt to win the World Heavyweight Title from Jeff Hardy several weeks ago, and now CM Punk will head to Summerslam to face Hardy in a TLC match, if Hardy's ready to compete. Last week saw Punk take out Hardy after their match with a disgusting display of poor sportsmanship. Will Morrison be able to win yet again against Punk tonight, or will Punk finally find his way to a victory?
As previously mentioned, CM Punk made a heinous attack on Hardy following their title match last week. The title match involved a special guest enforcer, who was returning Smackdown star, Matt Hardy. During the match, Punk mistakingly did a baseball slide kick into Matt Hardy which knocked him down outside the ring. When Matt regained composure, he took out his frustration by yanking the ref out of the ring during a pinfall count for CM Punk. CM Punk and Matt got in each others faces in the ring, eventually allowing enough distraction for Jeff to grab Punk and gain a quick pinfall. Matt quickly counted 1-2-3 and Jeff retained. As Matt left the scene, Punk took out his anger by severely beating up Jeff. He threw him to the outside and even used a chair around his neck to throw him into the ringpost! Questions remain, such as what will Matt Hardy have to say regarding last week's match, and will Jeff Hardy be present on tonight's show?
Last week's show also included a fast paced Fatal Fourway to determine the #1 Contender for Rey Mysterio's Intercontinental Title. With Mysterio watching from the guest commentator position, he saw R-Truth, Mike Knox, Finlay and Dolph Ziggler battle it out. In the ring things got quite chaotic, as all four men were involved. Mike Knox eventually knocked Truth over the top ropes. Finlay grabbed his shilaleigh while the ref wasn't watching and clocked Knox on the head. With Knox down, Ziggler took the opportunity to surprise Finlay with his finisher, slamming Finlay to the mat for a pinfall. Ziggler collected the big win and a trip to Summerslam to face Mysterio for his IC title. After the win, Ziggler went out and stared at Rey before slapping at his face. Finlay grabbed Ziggler from behind by the hair, and Ziggler pulled away. However, Mysterio was waiting and jumped off the commentators' table onto Ziggler to take him down. What will go down next as these two head to Summerslam in under two weeks?
