Smackdown Recap 10.02.09

Smackdown Recap from Boston, MA:

To start off the Smackdown decade celebration a video of classic Smackdown highlights was shown, followed by the new intro video and music ("Let it Roll" by Divide the Day is the new theme song) for the show's season premiere. JR and Grisham welcomed fans to the show after the pyrotechnics exploded. They said backstage there was a party already going on, and cut to a camera shot of Hornswoggle serving as a bartender with several wrestlers around.

Batista vs. Kane

A video was shown from WWE: The Best of Smackdown - 10th Anniversary 1999-2009 where Batista and Rey Mysterio defeated MNM to win the tag team titles. Early in this match, Kane struck Batista after a clean break in the corner. He whipped Batista to the corner, but Batista charged out of it and clotheslined Kane down. Kane was able to hit a back suplex to take control briefly, and worked submissions. Batista was able to break out of a submission and ended up throwing Kane to the outside before a break in the action.

As Smackdown returned, Kane was working on Batista's arm. The two wrestlers got to their feet and ended up hitting a big boot at the same time. Batista had the control of things with a shoulder block. Kane was able to escape the corner to hit a sidewalk slam, and got a near fall. Kane jumped off the ropes to clothesline the Animal down. He went for the chokeslam but Batista countered and hit a Spinebuster. Batista was able to clothesline Kane down, then went to the top rope. As he jumped, Kane caught him with his hand on the throat, but Batista escaped it and hit the Batista Bomb to win.

Winner: Batista wins via pinfall over Kane.

Footage of the party backstage was shown with the Brooklyn Brawler there as well as GM Teddy Long, and Michael Cole. Cole kept yelling "Vintage" and a wrestlers name. Teddy Long ordered a Pepsi from Hornswoggle, but Finlay raised a whiskey toast with the others. Cole and Long were about to take a shot of alcohol. CM Punk was there and told Teddy Long not to take the shot. CM Punk said as long as he's champion there will be no more alcohol. Former GM Vickie Guerrero was there and was with her boyfriend Eric Escobar, a new Smackdown wrestler whom she claimed to be managing. Someone showed up dressed as Undertaker, and revealed himself as Santino Marella, scaring Teddy Long. Long finally took the shot of alcohol.

When Smackdown returned, a drunk Michael Cole called Hornswoggle a shrimp because he didn't give him any shrimp. Horney kicked Cole in the shin. Also nearby, MVP and Mark Henry were letting people into the VIP Lounge including Hornswoggle, Matt Hardy, Christian, the divas, Sgt. Slaughter and Iron Sheik. They refused to let Zack Ryder into the VIP Lounge despite him begging for it. Ryder quipped asked if they really let in Sheik but not him. Iron Sheik ended up saying "Woo, woo, woo you know it jabroni", getting a laugh from everyone.

A tribute video was shown for the late WWE superstar Eddie Guerrero.

John Morrison & Kofi Kingston vs. The Miz & Dolph Ziggler

Jack Swagger joined JR and Grisham on commentary, but took off his headset and started to stare down Kofi early on. Miz and Morrison started things off with Miz talking trash. Miz and Morrison locked up with Miz kicking his former tag partner in the gut to take control. Miz whipped Morrison to the ropes, but JMo came back to slide under Miz's legs and dropkicked him out to the floor. Ziggler came into the ring, but Kofi Kingston got in to head him off.

Miz did a catapult move on Kofi after Ziggler slapped Miz' back. Kofi sprang right up and punched Ziggler in the face. Kofi tried to crawl over to tag Morrison, but Ziggler pulled him away. Ziggler took control of things and Miz came in, but missed on a charge at Kingston in the corner. Kofi finally made the hot tag to Morrison as Ziggler tagged in. Morrison came in on fire, knocking Ziggler down with several moves, then hit a standing Moonsault for a near fall. Morrison whipped Ziggler hard to the corner and avoided a clothesline attempt from Miz on the apron. Kofi ran around the side and took out Miz right in front of Swagger. Morrison prepared for a springboard move from the ropes, but Ziggler grabbed his leg to crotch him on the top rope. Ziggler hit the Zig Zag right after to win it. Ziggler signaled that he'd be Intercontinental champ soon.

Winners: Dolph Ziggler & The Miz win via pinfall over Kofi Kingston & John Morrison.

The backstage celebration was shown again, this time with Yoshi Tatsu and Kung Fu Naki singing "Sexy Boy" karaoke, before Jillian Hall interrupted to sing her rendition. Sgt. Slaughter and Sheik were having a debate over USA vs. Iran. Chris Jericho and Big Show interrupted the party to remind everyone they were on the first ever episode of Smackdown. Michael Cole who was completely drunk, threw up on Jericho's shoes. Jericho was disgusted by it and Big Show threw up off camera. Joey Styles was on hand and said "Oh My God!"

Justin Roberts introduced a special message from former WWE champion, The Rock. Rock came up on the big screen with a case full of title belts sitting in the background. Rock cut a promo where he eventually said "The Rock has come back to Smackdown!" Rock sang some lines from "Smackdown Hotel" and had the fans chanting for him. Rock brought up CM Punk, who is now the champ after a decade. Rock insulted Punk saying they should call him "BM Punk" for Bowel Movement, since that's what fans want to do when they see him come out.

Rock brought up The Undertaker. Rock hyped up Undertaker as becoming the new champion this coming Sunday. Rock said his other trademark line "It doesn't matter what your name is" and even suggested that maybe he'll guest host Raw, saying he'd be the most electrifying host yet.

Melina vs. Michelle McCool
Lumberjills Match for Womens Title

Serving as lumberjacks (or jills) were WWE Divas Eve Torres, Maria, Beth Phoenix, Alicia Fox, Rosa Mendes, Katie Lea, Jillian Hall, Layla, Natalya, Savannah, The Bellas and Kelly Kelly. McCool had the early advantage, but Melina did a split right on the apron to duck a punch. She punched Michelle in the gut, but Michelle recovered to dropkick Melina to the outside. Several face divas went to help Melina up, but McCool came to the outside to grab Melina and brought her back in. Michelle started to take control smashing Melina face first to the mat and kicking her.

Melina was able to retaliate in the ring with kicks and punches then hit a Flapjack on Michelle for a two count. Melina hit a hard clothesline on Michelle, but then Jillian interfered, grabbing Melina's leg near the ropes. Melina kicked her, then went off the apron to land on Jillian and Katie Lea. An all-out divas brawl started on the outside of the ring as Melina and Michelle continued the match inside. The ref tried to restore order with the fighting divas who were partly in the ring. Melina eventually climbed back on the corner for a move, but Beth Phoenix yanked her leg down from the outside. Michelle was able to grab Melina from the corner to hit the Faithbreaker for the victory to retain her title.

Winner: Michelle McCool wins via pinfall over Melina to retain the WWE Womens Title.

A promo was shown with Undertaker delivering a message to CM Punk for Sunday. Taker said he'll knock Punk "off his high horse" and welcomes him to Satan's Playground, aka "Hell in a Cell".

As the participants for the eight man tag match were introduced, Smackdown moments #100 (WWE Spinning title belt) and #32 The Undertaker's revenge on Vickie Guerrero in September of 2008, were shown from the upcoming WWE: The Best of Smackdown - 10th Anniversary 1999-2009.

John Cena, The Undertaker & D-Generation X vs. Randy Orton, CM Punk & Legacy

The match began with Cena versus Rhodes, but after HHH got in, he punched Rhodes in the face. Rhodes was able to crawl over and tag in Ted, but HHH started to pound away on him in the corner. HBK was in next for more punishment. HBK tried to tag in Undertaker, with Taker just staring at him. The pause allowed Dibiase to gain control. Michaels was able to escape though and did get the tag to Taker. Undertaker and Shawn Michaels had a staredown as Smackdown went to break.

After break, Taker had control of Rhodes, but tagged in HHH. HHH stayed in control, but after tagging in HBK, Rhodes was able to put HBK down with a series of punches. Orton and Punk both came in to work over Michaels, before Rhodes tagged back in. Michaels was able to kick away from Rhodes to tag Cena in. Cena faced both members of Legacy in the ring, and tried for an Attitude Adjustment, with the heels hitting the "Sweet N Sour" to take control.

After the final commercial, Punk and Cena were fighting in the ring. Punk took control and brought Orton in. Cena gained some momentum and hoisted Orton up in the Attitude Adjustment, but couldn't get it. Orton hit a DDT on Cena. Cena and Orton eventually were able to make tags to HHH and Punk. HHH hit a Spinebuster on Punk, then went over to tag Taker. As soon as Taker was in, Punk flew across the ring to tag in Orton. Undertaker hit Snake Eyes on him, but then Orton got a backbreaker in on The Phenom. Taker slapped Hell's Gate on Orton momentarily, because Dibiase broke it up. Everyone started to battle in the ring, with HBK delivering a Superkick on Dibiase, then HHH Pedigreeing him. Cena put Punk up in Attitude Adjustment and threw him over the ropes onto Legacy. HBK, HHH, Cena and Undertaker were in the ring with Orton. Taker grabbed him and hit the Tombstone, then collected the pin.

The show ended with the winning team celebrating as confetti rained down from the rafters. Each superstar's music played briefly, and the Undertaker was shown last as the show went off air.

Winners: John Cena, The Undertaker & D-Generation X win via pinfall over Randy Orton, CM Punk & Legacy
