CM Punk joins Nexus, Orton & Sheamus Match

Monday's episode of Raw ended the year with a bang for many, especially John Cena who was once again the victim of CM Punk's attack. This time Punk talked about some of the reasons for his attacks, and it wasn't that spilled diet soda, even though Cena joked about it.

In fact, Punk said it was Cena's dishonesty over being fired, and his barbaric treatment of other wrestlers including Punk's friend Dave Bautista. Punk also cited Cena's chair on a string attack of Wade Barrett at TLC. These all make good sense for Punk's attack. He didn't really mention the fact he and Cena were in a match months ago on Raw when Nexus attacked both of them. Cena got the worst of it, but Punk was attacked on the outside of the ring.

Fast forward to the end of Monday's Raw, and we learn that Nexus has new management. After David Otunga offered John Cena a truce (which Cena turned down), Nexus attacked Cena 5-on-1. Missing was their leader Wade Barrett, who Cena apparently destroyed beyond belief at TLC. We also learned that Nexus' new management appears to be CM Punk, as he donned the Nexus armband then gave an arm raise salute to the other five members.

Is this a good idea, or simply WWE creative staff failing to come up with something better? It seems that CM Punk needs a crew to help him get over. Recall his days as the Straight Edge leader. It's quite possible he'll resume that act with Nexus, or formulate a new agenda.

Can't say I was totally impressed with the story as it involved Cena and Nexus, again. It probably has grown old for many fans. It does raise the interesting question of what will be next for Wade Barrett? Will he return to join Nexus and follow Punk's rule? Or will Barrett turn face or be a solo heel? Maybe he'll return to Smackdown. It seems anyone can just go to whatever show they want anyways (Ezekiel Jackson did).

The other thing that was intriguing about Monday's show was Orton defeating Sheamus. It's not to say Orton isn't capable, but I thought for sure we'd see Sheamus in a major attack on Orton to prompt the return of Triple H. Maybe that's still to come. Sheamus has now lost matches to John Morrison and Orton, making his reign as King seem less mighty.

John Morrison was able to win a match on Raw against Alex Riley- surprise, surprise, which gave JMo the right to choose the time and place of his championship match with The Miz as well as stipulation. Morrison made the choice of Falls Count Anywhere. Knowing that Miz has Alex Riley and Michael Cole on his side, why would Morrison choose that? It almost seems like it will set up another title match for the Royal Rumble, or maybe WWE decided they don't want that as their title match.

So with Raw we got some interesting scenarios set up and others which seem to make less sense. What is in store for Randy Orton? Is The Viper getting a push towards the WWE Title again? What is going on with Sheamus? If he's going to be in a feud with Triple H, shouldn't Sheamus be getting wins?

It seems as if the WWE Title might be lost in a Triple Threat, Fatal Fourway or Six pack challenge. At this point it just doesn't look like Miz will lose it outright to someone else.

What are your thoughts on the latest developments for WWE Raw? Is CM Punk as Nexus leader a good move by WWE? What's next for Wade Barrett, Sheamus and Randy Orton? Does Morrison have a chance to become WWE Champion or is that just a filler until Miz is defeated by someone else?
