Smackdown Results 08/12/11


Smackdown Results from Sacramento, CA:

The show opened with Triple H arriving out to the ring. He discussed how he's now COO and a special referee at Sunday's Summerslam match. HHH said he's digging the new job and told the fans he'll make each Raw and Smackdown exciting and surprising. He announced an Intercontinental Championship match tonight with Cody Rhodes challenging Ezekiel Jackson. Also, Daniel Bryan vs Alberto Del Rio. HHH was about to announce Christian's opponent for tonight's show, but the champion arrived out to interrupt.

Christian brought up that he has a special announcement, and then told Triple H he needs to remove the "No Holds Barred" part of his match with Orton on Sunday. Christian threatened to sue if Triple H doesn't. HHH said he has respect for Orton but not Christian after how he won the title. HHH said to get respect, Christian will have to beat Orton and earn respect. Christian finally said he's dropping the lawsuit and will beat whoever HHH has for him to face. Triple H announced Christian's opponent, Sheamus.



Sheamus vs. Christian

Late in the match, Christian tried to leave after Sheamus was about to go for the Irish Curse. Sheamus went after him. Christian hit a reverse hangman on the rope, allowing him to escape and win by countout.

Winner: Christian wins via countout over Sheamus.



Natalya & Beth Phoenix vs. Kaitlyn & AJ

The closing moments saw Beth and Natalya do a double team slam on Kaitlyn. Kaitlyn eventually escaped from their clutches and tagged in AJ. AJ flew around the ring with moves. However she got caught on her wheelbarrow attempt by Beth who turned it into a Glam Slam for the win!

Winners: Beth Phoenix & Natalya win via pinfall over Kaitlyn & AJ.




They had a backstage segment with Teddy Long and Zack Ryder. Cody Rhodes and Ted Dibiase came up to thank Zack for booking tonight's Intercontinental title match. Teddy Long said Zack had nothing to do with it. Former NXT diva competitor, Aksana, came up to Teddy to make passes at him. She asked why he is "Long." Teddy said he had to go check his car for something, and Aksana told him she can drive a stick.

They showed a promotional video about Mark Henry.

Johnny Curtis was backstage getting ready for his match. Mark Henry walked in and told him it's a shame his career has to end the same night he debuts. Curtis was puzzled and Henry asked "Oh, they didn't tell you?" Henry told him he'd be facing him for his debut match. Henry said he liked Curtis' vignettes and has one of his own for him. He told him to go "break a leg."



Sin Cara vs. Tyson Kidd

A new person was playing the role of Sin Cara tonight. Booker and Matthews said the body looked a lot different than before, because Sin Cara had been working out while he was off with the ribs injury. Sin Cara had a bunch of impressive moves on Tyson Kidd including a rolling senton and then a springboard moonsault to win it.

Winner: Sin Cara wins via pinfall over Tyson Kidd.



Daniel Bryan vs. Alberto Del Rio

Del Rio went for an early armbreaker with Bryan able to escape it, and then tossing Del Rio out of the ring. Bryan went for a dive to take out Del Rio, but seemed to hurt his arm. Back in the ring, Bryan missed on a missile dropkick. Del Rio was able to lock in his Armbreaker submission on Bryan's hurt arm and get the win.

Post-match, Wade Barrett got a kick in on Daniel Bryan then hit Wasteland on him to leave him layed out. During the match, Josh Matthews announced that Daniel Bryan and Del Rio will have a Summerslam match on Sunday.

Winner: Alberto Del Rio wins via pinfall over Daniel Bryan.



Cody Rhodes vs. Ezekiel Jackson
Intercontinental Championship

At the bell, Zeke immediately attacked Rhodes sending him to the floor. Later, after a commercial break, Rhodes was in charge as he stomped away on Zeke. Rhodes tried a bulldog move, but Jackson just tossed him across the ring instead. Ted Dibiase got involved on the apron. Cody Rhodes managed to get in some headbutts on Zeke, who knocked Ted off the apron. Cody responded with his jumping kick off the corner. He ducked a clothesline from Zeke, then hit Cross Rhodes to win it.

Post-match, Ted Dibiase put a bag on Zeke's head and started playing it up to the crowd. Zeke sat up in the ring, so Cody took off. Zeke beat up Dibiase, then gorilla pressed him and tossed him out to the floor in front of Cody. Cody was shaken up so he left with his new championship belt.

Winner: Cody Rhodes wins by pinfall over Ezekiel Jackson to become the new Intercontinental Champion.



Johnny Curtis vs. Mark Henry

Johnny Curtis got in some early shots but it wasn't enough to save him from being squashed here. Henry tossed him around like a rag doll before hitting World's Strongest Slam en route to a win under a minute. Henry started to position Curtis in the corner for his sit splash, but Sheamus rushed down to make a save. He challenged Henry, who he called Shamu, to get in the ring with the "Great White." Henry acted like he might but instead grabbed Curtis and hit yet another World's Strongest Slam on him outside the ring.

Winner: Mark Henry wins via pinfall over Johnny Curtis.



Randy Orton vs The Great Khali

Jinder Mahal was ringside to coach Khali in this matchup. Early on, Khali clubbed Orton and dumped him outside the ring. He continued to slam Orton around as Mahal yelled instructions at him. Khali hit one of his big chops on Orton for a near fall.

Later, Orton managed to dropkick Khali against the ropes, causing him to get tied up. He kicked Khali multiple times and knocked Jinder Mahal out of the picture. Orton hit a DDT, then set up for the RKO. Khali blocked and grabbed Orton's head, then put him in the corner for a chop. Orton punched his way out of the corner then surprised Khali with the RKO for the win.

Post-match, Christian's music hit and the champ arrived to the ramp. He got on the mic saying their match at Summerslam is anything goes, and he is the best thing going right now. Christian said he can't wait for SummerSlam and promised he will beat Orton there.

Winner: Randy Orton wins via pinfall over The Great Khali.
