Raw Preview 09.01.08
A week ago on Raw, General Manager Mike Adamle delivered some shocking news to fans; John Cena would be out of action indefinitely due to a neck injury requiring surgery. The injury would also keep Cena out of the World Heavyweight title Championship Scramble, forcing Adamle to assign a replacement. Adamle's pick? Former World Heavyweight Champ, Rey Mysterio. Mysterio has been MIA from the Raw program for several weeks, and the Big Red Machine Kane has claimed responsibility. Kane has informed the wrestling world that he "crushed Mysterio's soul". Will Mysterio be seen or heard from prior to Unforgiven? What will Kane's response be to the announcement Mysterio will be a part of the championship match?
Last week also saw Batista challenge Kane and JBL face CM Punk. These four competitors will round out the field for the Championship Scramble. Batista and Kane's match ended in DQ, due to Kane using a steel chair. Both men used the chair to wound each other, showing that they are evenly matches. CM Punk was able to defeat JBL in his matchup, proving he can carry the title and is more than a transitional "paper champion". Now with Unforgiven under 2 weeks away, how will these four competitors prepare for the Championship Scramble? Will one of them gain an advantage over the rest of the field?
The Heartbreak Kid, Shawn Michaels, also issued a challenge to Chris Jericho in an unsanctioned match for Unforgiven. The two have been feuding for weeks, but things really boiled over when Shawn Michaels tried to announce retirement due to doctor's orders. The venue was Summerslam, and HBK had his wife Rebecca along with him to make the announcement in the ring. Jericho decided to interrupt and demanded Michaels admit that Jericho was the real reason he was calling it quits. Michaels refused to do so and Jericho ended up knocking down Michaels' wife with a stray punch. Now the two will meet at Unforgiven, but will they meet up prior to the big event on Raw?
