Is the Cruiserweight Title Done?

The last time we saw the Cruiserweight title it was held by the man, the myth, the legend, Hornswoggle. The leprechaun was forced to vacate the title because Smackdown GM Vickie Guerrero told him it was too dangerous for him to hold the title as a McMahon. Since that infamous date in WWE history, we have yet to see a return of the title. It makes fans wonder, will we ever see the title return?

It's not the first WWE title to vanish. Two other titles come to mind with the European and the Hardcore titles both being eliminated as WWE gold. The European title was a launching point for stars like Hunter Hearst Helmsley, while the Hardcore title had the interesting premise of "defend it 24/7, anywhere". The Cruiserweight signified a division of wrestlers who weren't as heavy as some of the larger stars, but competed for the prestige of the title. Previous holders of the title included Jamie Noble, Chavo Guerrero and a longtime champion, Gregory Helms. Hornswoggle won the title in a surprise move at a PPV when he hit a frogsplash off the top ropes, after appearing from under the ring. He successfully defended it at least twice against a frustrated Jamie Noble.

It would be interesting to see this title make a comeback with a tri-brand tournament to determine a new Cruiserweight champion. I think it would make a great match at a Pay Per View following Wrestlemania and could involve names like Stevie Richards, Kenny Dykstra, Santino Marella, Cody Rhodes, Jamie Noble and even the rookie Colin Delaney. A guy like Cody Rhodes seems a worthy ambassador to hold that tile right about now, or the WWE could push it as Delaney's first big title win in WWE. So bring back the cruiserweight, because that is the stuff WWE legends and stories are made of..

Smackdown Preview 10.05.07

Smackdown comes to us tonight just two days ahead of the next big WWE Pay Per View, No Mercy! There's sure to be plenty of action on tonight's show including the latest in several feuds heading into the event this weekend.

Tonight's main even features two participants from this weekend's Pay Per View in a "David and Goliath" style match up. On one side is Mr. 619 himself, Rey Mysterio, who's been on a bit of a roll since returning at Summerslam. On the other side is the imposing, former World Heavyweight Champ, The Great Khali. Will Rey Mysterio be able to overcome the odds and defeat the massive giant? Or will Khali once again destroy an opponent in the ring, sending a message to Batista for Sunday?

Mysterio and Khali's opponents for this Sunday should also be involved in Friday night's show, as Batista and Finlay will be preparing for their matches with each. Batista is facing a tough "Punjabi Prison" match with Great Khali this Sunday, as Finlay will be heading into one on one action with Mysterio. Will Finlay or Batista play a part in the main event?

The Cruiserwight title is also vacant, as Vickie Guerrero convinced Hornswoggle to give his belt up for safety reasons. With the belt now available will a new match be set for No Mercy to decide a new champ? Stay tuned to Smackdown for the answers.

Smackdown airs Friday night at 8PM EST on the CW network. Check local listings for coverage in your area.

Smackdown Preview 08.17.07

Last week on Smackdown Ric Flair did battle with The Great Khali, with Khali getting the upperhand, literally. Kahli latched a claw like grip onto the forehead of Flair then pushed him to the mat for the pin. When Batista came down to try to make the save, Khali used the grip once again, this time to put down the Animal. What will be in store for the Champ this week as Flair and Batista may be looking for sweet revenge?

Last week also started a new feud between the fighting Irishmen, Finlay, and the Big Red Machine, Kane. Finlay had the last word, or action, when he stormed down to the ring and proceeded to take out Kane with his shalalee. How will Kane respond on tonight's edition of Smackdown?

We also may see more of the Hornswaggle and Jamie Noble feud, as well as see Matt Hardy in action just 1 night prior to Saturday Night's Main Event! Watch Smackdown on the CW network at 8PM EST Friday night!

Ric Flair vs The Great Khali

Flair got the crowd riled up with several "WOO!'s" to start off the match. Khali stared at him then pushed Flair back onto the mat. Flair tried to chop Khali several times but it didn't phase him. Khali slammed Flair to the mat, then put a tight claw grip on Flair's shoulder. Flair finally able to stretch out and reach the ropes for the ref to break the hold.

Khali applied the claw to Flair's shoulder again, keeping him down to the mat. When Flair finally stood up, Khali chopped Flair down to the mat. JBL said we are seeing one of wrestling's greatest being decimated here. Flair finally raked Khali in the eye with a thumb. The ref turned to attend to Singh who was complaining on the side apron. Flair then did a low blow on Khali, causing the giant to fall to his knees. Flair started to dance around the ring punching and chopping Khali who was laying against the ropes. As Flair came off the ropes, Khali stood up and then slapped the claw grip onto Flair's forehead. Flair fell to the mat as Khali continued the hold. Eventually, Khali pressed Flair to the mat and with his shoulders down, the ref counted the pinfall. Khali continued the grip after the bell rang and the ref told him to break it. Just then Batista ran down into the ring and attacked Khali. Batista rammed Khali into a corner then tried for a Batista Bomb.

Khali able to escape the Batista Bomb and then slapped the claw grip onto Batista's forehad. Batista tried to fight back with punches but Khali kept the grip on his forehead. Batista finally fell to the mat. JBL said Khali just took out 1/2 of the Evolution team (Flair, Orton, Batista and HHH). Michael Cole said the crowd was in a "stunned silence" as Khali left Batista and Flair laying on the mat. Khali held up his title from the ramp as Smackdown left the air.

Winner: The Great Khali wins via pinfall over Ric Flair.

Smackdown Preview 08.10.07

Tonight on Smackdown expect more fallout from the Great Khali vs Batista feud which is carrying momentum into Summerslam. Last week, Batista teamed up with Ric Flair to take on the tag champs, Deuce & Domino. Khali came down to interrupt the match, resulting in a DQ by the ref on the tag champs. Batista was attacked by Deuce and Domino, leaving Flair at the mercy of Khali in the ring. Khali then tossed Flair around the ring and left him laying flat on his back. Batista stared out angrily at the giant as he attended to Flair. What will Batista's response be to Great Khali?

We also saw Matt Hardy win 2 contests over MVP on last week's show. First, Hardy defeated MVP in an arm wrestling event, despite many attempts by MVP to distract the proceedings. Immediately afterwards, MVP challenged Matt to a traditional match, which Matt won as well. What will this week's challenge be and will MVP finally give Matt another title shot for Summerslam?

Don't count out the Cruiserweight champ, Hornswaggle either. The leprechaun appeared once again to harass Jamie Noble last week. This time Hornswaggle hit Noble in the face with a pie then sprayed him with a fire extinguisher before running away up the ramp. Expect Noble to go looking for the mini-wrestler again, in search of revenge and the Cruiserweight title.

Smackdown airs at 8PM EST on the CW Network, Fridays. Check local listings for blackout locations due to local events.

WWE Superstar Hornswoggle

hornswoggle wwe little bastard
The meaning of "Hornswoggle" is to swindle, cheat, hoodwink or hoax.

Hornswoggle's real name is Dylan Mark Postl, born May 29, 1986 in Wisconsin. He stands just 4 foot 10 and weighs in at 127 lbs. In 2005, he made several appearances with NWA Wisconsin where he won its X Division Championship. He also appeared several times in 2005 for AWA Wisconsin's wrestling league. He eventually went on to sign a WWE contract in 2006. His favorite food appears the popular breakfast cereal of Lucky Charms, and he's no stranger to Looney Tunes type antics around the ring and backstage.

After signing with WWE, he made his debut as Hornswoggle on May 26, 2006 during a Finlay match against Paul Burchill. Hornswoggle appeared from under the ring and attacked Burchill, then scurried back under the ring. He continued doing this for many weeks after, many times with Finlay trying to stop him from attacking opponents. Eventually he was named "Little Bastard" at first by commentator, Michael Cole. Finlay eventually corrected him, informing Cole his name was Hornswoggle.

WWE Superstar Hornswoggle became involved in Wrestlemania 23, when he climbed the ladder in the Money in the Bank Match. Mr. Kennedy climbed up the ladder and slammed the Leprechaun off, eventually capturing the Money in the Bank briefcase. This set up a brief feud between Kennedy and Finlay, until Kennedy apologized for hurting Hornswoggle.

On July 22, 2007 at The Great American Bash Hornswoggle won the WWE Cruiserweight Championship after he competed in the Cruiserweight Open; the other participants and the referee were unaware that he was even wrestling in the match. Hornswaggle entered by scurrying across the ring before the match even began. He is listed within the acceptable weight range to compete for the title. Winning this title made him the first person with dwarfism to win a Championship in WWE history.

Notes: Hornswoggle was forced to give up his Cruiserweight title sadly on a 2007 episode of Smackdown. Acting GM Vickie Guerrero informed him it was too dangerous for him to continue as champ. This came not long after it was announced he was the bastard child of Chairman Vince McMahon.

Hornswoggle has since been involved in the famous "Bastard Child of Vince McMahon" story. Hornswoggle has caused all sorts of mayhem and was involved in "Tough Love" matches. Vince McMahon even put him in a mini Royal rumble battle royal type match on Raw, featuring mini versions of wwe kane, batista and mankind. It was later revealed Hornswoggle was the son of WWE Superstar Finlay.
