Raw Results 08/05/13

Raw Results from Green Bay, WI:

Raw opened with Stephanie McMahon bringing Daniel Bryan to the ring after his "makeover."  He had slicked back hair and a suit, with video footage shown of his spa treatment, gym workout and eating at a steakhouse.  Bryan spoke in the ring saying he doesn't think his new look is what WWE really wants, instead saying that they want someone like Cena.  Bryan says Cena's an entertainer, but he's a wrestler, and if Cena was fired tomorrow he'd just go back to his mansion and 20 car lifestyle.  Bryan said if it were him fired, he'd be going to every armory, gym and dirtbox filled with 30 fans, so he could wrestle, because he loves it.

Vince McMahon eventually came out to interrupt.  He said he doesn't want Cena as champion, but wants Bryan as champ even less.  He made jokes about how unkempt and weak Bryan comes off as.  Vince finally said he can use his influence to help Bryan because champion - but only if he shaves off his beard.  Vince ordered a barber chair to be brought out to ringside, which crew members did.  He threatens to get rid of Bryan if he doesn't comply, then calls down Wade Barrett, saying Barrett's grandfather was a barber.

Barrett prepared to shave off Bryan's beard, but D-Bry wasn't having it and headbutted Barrett.  He started to shave off Wade's beard instead, then delivered more strikes to his head.  Barrett charged at Bryan near the barrier, but got dumped into the crowd.  Bryan led a "Yes!" chant as he went up the ramp with Vince furious inside the ring.

Rob Van Dam defeated Alberto Del Rio via pinfall in a non-title match.  Ricardo Rodriguez was back on Raw as ADR's ring announcer.  The Miz was on commentary during the match as well.  Late in the contest, RVD went for a split leg moonsault with ADR getting his knees up.  Ricardo tried to assist, putting his bucked in the corner.  RVD countered a move by Del Rio to throw him into the bucket, then covered for the pinfall win.  Post-match, Del Rio attacked Rodriguez, kicking him in the head, and then tossing him out of the ring.  Del Rio snaps and puts RR's head in between the steel steps, then dropkicks the steps, KO'ing RR.

Cody Rhodes went to the ring and had a "gift" for Damien Sandow, which he revealed to be the MITB briefcase soaking wet and with seaweed hanging out of it.  Sandow comes to the ring and tells Cody to put the briefcase down and leave now.  Cody does so, but then rushed back into the ring and attacked Sandow.  He throws Sandow to the outside, then opens the briefcase showing the title contract is soaking wet and torn.

Mark Henry defeated Ryback via countout.  During the match, Ryback managed to take out Henry's knee, and then went to work on it some more.  Later, Ryback loses control of things with Henry scooping him up for a move.  Ryback slips out and escapes the ring, going up the ramp to get counted out.

They had a backstage segment with the Bella Twins talking about how hot they were on Total Divas last night.  Eva Marie comes walking up and tells Brie she had a nice win over Natalya last week, making her look silly.  Natalya walked up and they made fun of her.  Brie tells her it's a slap in the face she's on their show.  Natalya slapped Brie in the face and left the scene.

John Cena came out to talk about defending the WWE title and Daniel Bryan.  He keeps going but is interrupted by Randy Orton with the MITB briefcase.  Orton says it doesn't matter who walks out champion after Summerslam, what matters is the briefcase.  Suddenly, The Shield's music hit and they arrive out to surround the ring.  Daniel Bryan rushed down and joined Cena and Orton.  GM Brad Maddox comes out and puts them in a six man tag match for later on.

Erick Rowan and Luke Harper defeated Tons of Funk via pinfall.  Bray Wyatt watched from a rocking chair at ringside.  Post-match, the Wyatts attacked Broadus some more and then Bray started to cut more of a promo about Kane.  Suddenly, Kane's pyro went off and Kane showed up on the big screen.  He said at SummerSlam, the family and nobody else will be able to save Bray from him.  Kane says at SummerSlam they'll fight in an Inferno Match.

Layla defeated Kaitlyn via pinfall.  Layla was able to pick up the win thanks to AJ Lee coming out to the ring and skipping around, distracting Kaitlyn.

Christian defeated Heath Slater via pinfall.  Slater had a late 2 count, but Christian regained control and hit a huge spear for the win.

CM Punk vs. Curtis Axel ended in a no decision.  Punk gained control late after kicking Axel in the head, then jumped over to grab Heyman.  Punk brought Heyman into the ring to get his hands on him, but Brock Lesnar arrived out to the arena.  Punk hit a GTS on Axel to take him out, and then got into a brawl with Lesnar.  Punk got in several moves on Brock including ramming him into the ring post and jumping off the announce table at him.  Punk managed to counter Lesnar's F5 attempt and hit him with a steel chair, then turned towards Heyman again.  Lesnar was back up and attacked Punk from behind, hitting the F5.  Heyman ordered him to hurt Punk, so Brock repeatedly bashed the steel chair on him.

After a break, Renee Young was backstage with Heyman, Axel and Brock Lesnar.  She asked about what just happened.  Lesnar says he's the "beast and the best in the world."  Heyman tells Renee to deliver a message to Punk, that he might not make it to SummerSlam, because next week, Heyman is going to challenge Punk to a match.

Kofi Kingston defeated Fandango via pinfall.  During the match, Fandango kept trying to pin Kofi with his feet up on the ropes.  Late in this one, Kofi managed to hit Trouble in Paradise for the win.

Backstage, Triple H comforted Stephanie who had been chewed out by Vince about the handling of Daniel Bryan out there.  Triple H told her that Vince has lost it.  He rants about being tired of Vince doing this.  HHH says he's going to stop Vince from whatever he's trying to do.  Triple H storms out of the office.

Jack Swagger & Antonio Cesaro defeated The Usos via pinfall. Colter distracted the ref, and Swagger hit one of the Usos with a cheap shot. Moments later, Cesaro hit the Neutralizer for the win.

Big E Langston defeated Dolph Ziggler via pinfall.  Late in the match, Kaitlyn came out to ringside and got into a brawl with AJ.  The two divas ended up fighting in the ring to interrupt the match.  Ziggler tried to break up the fight, but Big E ran him down, then hit the Big Ending for the win.

Daniel Bryan, John Cena & Randy Orton defeated The Shield due to disqualification.  Late in the match, Bryan is able to counter a move from Seth Rollins to go for a tag, bringing in Orton and Ambrose at the same time.  Later on in the match, Bryan managed to gain control and slap the Yes Lock on Rollins.  Ambrose and Reigns attacked and got called for the DQ.

Post-match, Bryan celebrated the win, but Orton nailed the RKO on him.  Shield comes in to attack, but Cena and Orton clear them out.  Orton hits the RKO on Cena and stands over him.  He goes out and gets his briefcase ready to cash in, then crawled into the ring.  The Shield came back down to the ring, so Orton backed off.  Reigns hit a spear on Cena, then Ambrose stomped on Bryan.  Orton watched and backed up the ramp.  Rollins and Ambrose stomp on Bryan together, then hit a Triple Powerbomb on him.  Orton watched from the ramp as the Shield stood tall and Raw went off the air.

Matt Striker was in the ring with Brodus Clay, Derrick Bateman and Johnny Curtis. Striker reminded fans there's another elimination next week. The show would start off with the first competition of the night, a pinata smashing contest. The rookie would have to smash the pinata and get money from it then take it to his pro.

Johnny Curtis was first in the contest and after some coaching from his pro, R-Truth, Curtis ripped his blindfold off and had no money. Brodus Clay went second and was able to collect all of the money from the pinata and bring it to Ricardo Rodriguez. Bateman went last and was DQ'd after ten seconds because he pulled down the pinata. So Brodus Clay wins the contest and gets 2 immunity points.

Brodus Clay vs. R-Truth

Ricardo Rodriguez was nearby to coach Clay while rookie Johnny Curtis was there to support his pro. In the match, Clay was able to get a rather easy victory over R-Truth. Clay used a huge splash move on Truth to score the winning pinfall in about 3 minutes time.

Time for the next contest of the night. Striker was up on the stage with three refs and the rookies. There was a bucket hanging up above a tub. There were also a black tarp and some stools. Meanwhile, two buckets dumped on Bateman and Curtis, sliming them. Voting for the next elimination will start tomorrow at noon EST.

They showed a replay of The Rock's return to WWE Raw last night. Rock talked about John Cena and mocked his "You Can't See Me." He also made fun of Cena's bright-colored shirts. Rock said he'll see Cena and Miz at Wrestlemania 27. He said The Rock and his millions of his fans will go to Wrestlemania and electrify like nobody else can. The Rock finished off with his catchphrase, "If You Smell What the Rock is Cookin!"

Josh Matthews noted that everyone can join the 2.1 million Facebook users and 96,000 Twitter followers for The Rock on social media.

US Champion Daniel Bryan arrived to the ring for the next matchup.

Derrick Bateman vs. Daniel Bryan

Rookie versus pro for this NXT match. Early on, Bryan and Bateman grabbed hands and were locked up. Dolph Ziggler and Ricardo Rodriguez were talking on the mic during the match.

Bateman was able to knock down Bryan with a shoulder block, but moments later, Bryan hit several hip tosses. Todd Grisham pointed out that Maryse was wearing a Marc Jacobs dress up on the stage. Ziggler asked who they're supposed to root for and Ricardo Rodriguez answered "Not the Chargers" causing the local fans to get angry. Bryan had Bateman's arm held behind his back, but Bateman ran around the ring and was able to throw Bryan out through the ropes. He followed with a suicide dive on Bryan to take him down.

Bateman tossed Bryan back into the ring before a commercial break. NXT returned with Bryan in control, knocking down Bateman and getting a near fall.
Later on, Bryan went for a diving headbutt off the top rope, with Bateman moving away. Bateman leveled Bryan with a clothesline and had a near fall. WWE NXT Results 02/08/11

WWE NXT Results from Green Bay, WI:

After a highlight video showing recaps of the past weeks of NXT Season 4, Striker had the four rookies ready for an opening challenge. It was "Rock Em, Sock Em Joust." The rookies had to try to knock their opponent off a podium with the Gladiator joust stick.

First up was Bateman vs Curtis. Bateman managed to win the first round although Curtis shoved him after falling off. Next up, Brodus Clay got himself DQ'd by shoving Saxton off. Clay got on the mic to say that this contest isn't made for someone his size, and he would make a statement in the ring later on.

In the finals, Saxton and Bateman both fell off their podiums. Originally, Saxton was called the winner, but a reply showed his foot touched the ground first. They had a re-do, and this time around Saxton was the clear cut winner. He got 2 immunity points for that. That makes it Curtis with 3 points, Bateman and Saxton with 2 each.

Byron Saxton vs. Derrick Bateman

Masters got the crowd going with a "turd" chant for Ziggler during the match. Bateman got inspired, then hit a back drop suplex on Saxton. He kicked Saxton in the chest and later hit a corner dropkick on him. In the close, Saxton went for a small package on Bateman. Bateman came back by using Daniel Bryan's LeBell Lock to force Saxton to tap out.

Winner: Derrick Bateman wins via submission over Byron Saxton.

The next NXT competition was a WWE Shop Challenge in the spirit of Price is Right. The rookies would have to guess a suggested retail price of each WWE merchandise item. NXT Season 3 rookies AJ and Naomi were special helpers for the challenge. The items they had to guess included the Top 50 Superstars of All-Time, WWE Kids Magazine, World Heavyweight Replica belt and the WWE Championship History Book. Brodus Clay won the challenge and got 3 immunity points for it, tying with Curtis for the most points.

Backstage, Truth had a talk with Johnny Curtis. Truth said Curtis needs to ignore all the trash talk he's been hearing from the other guys saying Truth doesn't like Curtis. They hugged and Truth left so Curtis could get ready for the match.

Johnny Curtis vs. Brodus Clay

As the match was starting, Josh Matthews said he just got a note saying he gets to decide who gets immunity tonight. Dolph Ziggler got up and did a "Milwaukee, Wisconsin, what's up?!" taunt, drawing boos from the crowd.

Truth and Rodriguez were on the apron to coach the rookies. Early on, Brodus took control and tossed Curtis out through the ropes. Curtis managed to gain some control back in the ring, booting Clay in the face as he rushed at him in the corner. Clay regained control and dropped Curtis gut-first on the top rope.

Later in the match, Clay did a standing side headlock on Curtis. Curtis started to punch his way out but Clay locked the hold on again. The crowd started up a "turd" chant to get Ziggler, so Ziggler asked if they were doing a "nerd" chant for Daniel Bryan. Ziggler threatened to leave and then went backstage but returned a few moments later.

Curtis landed a leg drop over the top rope on Clay for a near fall. Curtis managed to get a huge dropkick from the corner, but Clay rolled over and got out to the apron to avoid a pinfall. Clay snapped Curtis by his neck across the top rope. Clay finished Curtis with a huge powerslam for the victory. Rodriguez got i nthe ring to announce Clay as the winner.

Winner: Brodus Clay wins via pinfall over Johnny Curtis.

Matt Striker told the pros up on the stage to huddle up and get to the voting, because elimination is coming up.

Striker took a poll of the crowd to determine who would get immunity, Clay or Curtis. They gave Curtis more cheers, so Striker said he could fall back in line. Striker had them roll through the NXT rookie pictures up on the big screen and it stopped on Byron Saxton.

Striker tried to get some closing comments from Byron, who seemed choked up. He composed himself and got on the mic saying he didn't understand how the WWE Universe could make this decision. He said he forgives them then, because one day that little birdie known as "common sense" will come back home and everything will be "A-OK." Saxton started up the ramp, but Ziggler walked down and asked what he was smiling about. Ziggler screamed at him that he was disgusted by him. Ziggler told him to get out now. Chris Masters taunted on the mic saying if Saxton was a real man he'd punch Ziggler now. Saxton stayed in place and smirked at Ziggler then pointed at him as NXT went off the air. The pro's up on stage looked confused as to what Saxton was doing.

Saxton talked about WWE Pros, and mocked R-Truth's rap song. Truth came back by doing his original song and Ziggler said they sounded the same. Next up, Bateman dissed Dolph Ziggler saying he has the face of a worn-out catcher's mit. He said Ziggler's name was formerly, Turd Ferguson, which got the crowd into a silly "Turd" chant.

Curtis talked about Chris Masters, but said he can't follow up Bateman's impressive speech. Instead, Curtis slapped Clay in the face, then escaped the ring to hide near the commentators.

Finally, Brodus Clay talked about US Champion, Daniel Bryan. He made a remark that Bryan needs to bring Gail Kim to his apartment so he can show her what a real man is like. Bryan responded that a real man isn't a fat man. Clay gave a mean stare in Bryan's direction.

Striker surveyed the crowd which gave the biggest applause to Bateman, giving him the immunity points for "Talk the Talk."

Dibiase tried to hit Dream Street, but Bryan countered and hip tossed Dibiase. Bateman tagged in to hit a series of clotheslines for a near fall. Dibiase was angry and yelled at Clay for screwing things up. Clay told him he had the match won, then dropped off the apron, frustrated with Dibiase. The distraction allowed Bateman to steal the win with a rollup pinfall from behind Dibiase. Maryse laughed about what went down between Clay and Dibiase.

Winners: Derrick Bateman & Daniel Bryan win via pinfall over Ted Dibiase & Brodus Clay.

Backstage, Conor O'Brian found pieces of cheese on the ground leading to a door. When he opened the door, Ricardo Rodriguez was on the other side and sprayed O'Brian in the face with bug spray. Rodriguez took off his white robe to reveal a pair of black spandex trunks. Ricardo rushed O'Brian at the bell, but had no impact on his opponent. Alberto Del Rio watched from backstage as Conor took apart Rodriguez. Conor missed on an elbow drop, but kept at it.

O'Brian exposed one of the turnbuckles. The ref saw it, and eventually O'Brian went to strike Rodriguez in the corner, but hit the exposed steel instead. O'Brian hit face first then fell backwards flat on the mat. Rodriguez noticed the rookie was down. He kicked at him a bit, then rushed against the ropes to splash onto O'Brian for the pinfall victory.

Striker turned things over to the Titantron for the latest elimination to be revealed. The rookie pictures flashed until finally it stopped on the image of Conor O'Brian. Striker gave him the mic to talk over what happened. Conor started his speech, but Ricardo Rodriguez interrupted and gave his best introduction of him on the mic all season. O'Brian took exception and snapped back at Rodriguez, then chased him backstage.

Conor came back down the ramp and Striker told him he has 20 seconds to give his thoughts. O'Brian said "You all suck, the rat has officially left the building!" Conor O'Brian lifted up the ring apron cover then went under the ring Hornswoggle style. The other NXT rookies were confused and looked under the ring. NXT Elimination Will Be...

There's been some interesting characters on Season 4 of NXT, as the weekly show on WWE.com will hold its second elimination in next week. Voting started earlier on Wednesday and it seems likely that the next rookie wrestler to go will be one Conor O'Brian.

Already eliminated was Jacob Novak a week prior. He was traded away by his mentor Dolph Ziggler, allowing Ziggler to keep Byron Saxton as his rookie. If Conor O'Brian is going next, will that mean Alberto Del Rio gets some way to make a trade? It seems WWE wants Del Rio in the spotlight right now, based on his arrival on Raw two weeks in a row, and his big win over Rey Mysterio on Smackdown.

Right now the top rookies appear to be Derrick Bateman, Johnny Curtis and then Brodus Clay. Bateman and Curtis don't really have any sort of unique appearance in-ring, but their personality seems to be winning over WWE fans. Bateman is just plain goofy, while Curtis is personable and likable. Byron Saxton seems to have the ingredients to be a decent heel character in the WWE. Brodus Clay has that huge domineering look that guys like Umaga and Rikishi had most recently. It's tough at this point to see any of those four not having a job in the WWE, but stranger things have happened.

Expect to see Conor O'Brian and his rat-like ways get the boot on next Tuesday's show, which should make Ricardo Rodriguez a happy Mariachi.
