The WWE Divas are celebrating the 2009 NCAA College Basketball Tournament in stunning fashion. The 2009 Men's College Basketball tourney started on Thursday and WWE has tied in the theme with its hottest women wrestlers. Over at WWE.com each of the divas are shown wearing various NCAA team jerseys. Examples include WWE Diva Rosa Mendes in University of North Carolina's jersey and Lillian Garcia in University of Connecticut Huskies' attire.

Kelly Kelly Next Playboy Diva?

According to WWE Magazine's 2009 Predictions, WWE Diva Kelly Kelly could be the next diva to grace the cover and pages of Playboy Magazine. According to the magazine's prediction: "Kelly Kelly graces the pages of Playboy. We can continue dreaming, can't we?

There's been rumors for some time now that Kelly Kelly (aka Barbie Blank) would be the next to enter the popular men's magazine. Previous blonde bombshells Sable and Torrie Wilson did covers/pictorials as did former diva Ashley Massaro. Ashley seemed to benefit from the move quite a bit in terms of further deals with the CBS show Survivor as well as appearances on various TV shows. Smackdown diva Maria Kanellis was last year's Playboy cover girl, creating plenty of buzz. The same could happen for Kelly Kelly in this situation. Kelly seems ready for a Womens Title push or even a run at the Divas Championship on Smackdown, based on the continual improvement of her in-ring skills. She continues to be one of the more popular divas on Raw in 2009.

Which other current WWE Divas would be a good choice for Playboy? Possibly Eve Torres or Maryse from Smackdown. Each has the potential to increase their popularity with the fans and broaden their celebrity status beyond WWE fans. WWE could always go for the popular "twins issue" featuring The Bella Twins Brianna and Nicole too... Unfortunately, Raw diva Melina Perez has already stated she wouldn't be doing a Playboy shoot, but several other divas haven't ruled out the idea. Victoria Retires on Smackdown

On the Friday night Smackdown which aired 1/16/09, longtime WWE Diva Victoria (Lisa Marie Varon) fought what she called the final match of her career. Wrestling against former Divas Champ, Michelle McCool, Victoria suffered a loss in her final contest. Some fans are expressing a bit of concern over Victoria ending her career this way, but fellow former diva heel, Lita, also went out with a loss. Lita made an appearance on the Raw anniversary show along with her longtime opponent, Trish Stratus.

Victoria made the following comments regarding her decision to retire:

Choosing to leave was a very difficult decision. I think many of my colleagues considered me a "lifer". That is, they thought I'd be with WWE until I was old and grey. But I was not happy with the opportunities that were available to me within WWE. And at the end of the day, there are thousands and thousands of women who would kill or die for the chance to be a WWE Diva. It isn't right for me to fill that spot if my heart weren't in it.

Victoria also added:

And I haven't ruled out the idea of jumping back in the squared circle occasionally down the road.

Victoria's WWE diva career spanned about 7 years, starting way back in 2002. Fans may remember back to Victoria's first appearance in the WWE as one of the Godfather's "Ho Train" members, the "Head Ho" who was at the forefront of a "Save the Hos" campaign. Victoria made her entrance as a diva later in 2002 on an episode of Sunday Night Heat, when she began a story involving Trish Stratus. Victoria claimed that Trish had betrayed her during a fitness contest they were both models in. The rest was history for this heel diva and engineer of the Widow's Peak. Within four months, Victoria had won the Women's Championship for her first reign ever. She would win the title once again, making her a two time champ. Victoria had stints on WWE Heat, RAW, and then her final roster spot with Smackdown.

Slight speculation has already started on Victoria's retirement, with Brian Fritz of The Orlando Sentinel's article, "Longtime WWE diva retires - or did she?". Fritz states that Victoria shot down retirement rumors months ago, but now it appears this is legit as Victoria has several outside business interests including her Black Widow Customs car shop.

Fans can now debate Victoria's place amongst legendary WWE divas. She served as a classic heel more often than not and displayed some of the best technical in-ring skills of most divas. This is especially evident these days as the WWE keeps several divas out of the ring strictly as valets. In addition to wrestling, Victoria acted as a ringside valet/romantic interest for several wrestlers such as Kenny Dykstra and Steven Richards, performing in mixed tag team contests. And even though she went out with a loss, Victoria still gave fans plenty of sports entertainment during her diva pro-wrestling career.

Update on Maryse's Injury

Last week there was news of WWE Diva Maryse injuring her knee at a live house show in Raleigh, North Carolina. This came not long after Maryse had claimed the WWE Divas Championship on Smackdown by defeating Michelle McCool. Recently, over at WWE Universe, Maryse updated her blog with an entry called "my knee injury", all about the situation:

Last week while performing in the ring in Raleigh, North Carolina i hit a bad move an dislocated my right knee cap. While backstage it took approximatly 35 to 40 minutes to replace it, my knee cap was completly out. No surgery will be needed. I would like to thank Dc. Martha Dodson and our special trainer Larry Heck to save my leg, they really did. Thank you sooo much!!! I want to let all my fans know that im doing great and doing rehabilitation every day in Los Angeles where i live. Im recovering really fast. Thanks for all the support !!!

Based on this it appears the injury won't keep Maryse away from action too long or cause her to give up the WWE Divas Championship. There's also been recent rumors that former WWE Diva Gail Kim will be making her comeback and go on to feud with Maryse on Smackdown for the title.

Lovely WWE Diva Layla El might be the current diva fans love to hate, but she still has that same sexy appeal since winning the 2006 Diva Search. Layla was a big part of both Smackdown and ECW before arriving to WWE Raw. On both Smackdown and ECW, Layla accompanied The Miz to ringside. You'll recall ECW's Extreme Expose show in the ring, which featured Kelly Kelly, Layla and Brooke Adams doing "halftime" dance routines to entertain the crowd. Layla eventually started feuding with Kelly. Now the two sexy WWE divas find themselves on the same roster for WWE Raw. Layla is the current arm-candy girlfriend of King of the Ring & Intercontinental Champion, William Regal.

Several WWE Divas have been featured nude or naked in Playboy magazine. Rena Mero Lesnar aka "Sable" was the first of the WWF/WWE divas to grace the cover of Playboy in April 1999. It was one of Playboy's highest selling issues in history, prompting them to bring the sexy diva back for another cover/pictorial in September 99'. Sable also has the record for the total number of times any diva has appeared on the Playboy cover with 3 covers.

Former WWE divas Joanie Lauer aka "Chyna" and Torrie Wilson each have appeared on/in Playboy twice. Torrie and Sable shared the cover and pictorial in March of 2004, making them the first and only diva pair to appear in Playboy together so far. Two other current WWE divas who've been in Playboy or involved with pictorials for it are WWE Diva Maryse (Maryse Ouellet) and WWE Diva Tiffany (Taryn Terrell). According to Playboy.com, "Maryse appeared prominently in an online pictorial titled "Sexy Resolutions" featuring gorgeous girls glistening with sweat as inspiration to Cyber Club members to stay on their New Year's workout regimens!" Happy Thanksgiving to WWE & Fans!

Happy Thanksgiving to all WWE fans and readers of WWE Characters the Blog! This has been a great year for the blog and I'm thankful for all visitors, commentors, and faithful readers for continuing to follow along! Things will only get better in 2009 as the WWE continues improving its great brand of sports entertainment.

This Thanksgiving 2008 the WWE and its fans have much to be thankful for, such as recent returning superstars, less injuries, less controversy and brand new title holders. While it's hard to speak for the WWE superstars, we can venture some guesses as to what several wrestlers should or might be thankful for this Thanksgiving 2008!

- John Cena is thankful for good health. Cena made his return from injury, surgery & rehab to good health at at 2008 Survivor Series where he claimed the World Heavyweight title.

- The WWE is thankful for the return of Cena which helped Raw's rating surge, bringing in a 3.3 rating after it had been getting ratings in the 3.0 range.

- Melina is also thankful for health. The WWE diva made her return to Raw 11.24.08 and looked better than ever in a six diva tag match!

- JBL is thankful for prosperity. The self-proclaimed wrestling God and business tycoon may have lost at Survivor Series, but he still commands a nice personal fortune & business empire including his own energy drink and stock portfolio.

- Edge is thankful for opportunity. The Rated-R Superstar & Ultimate Opportunist was able to enter the Triple Threat WWE title match at 2008 Survivor Series and come away as the champion. He may also be thankful for Vickie Guerrero, the Smackdown GM who granted him the opportunity.

- The Bella Twins are thankful for family. The twin sisters have taken the internet by storm, been named the hottest twins in sports by CNNSI, and racked up several wins thanks to each other's help on Smackdown!

- WWE Diva Alicia Fox is thankful for a job. The WWE Diva has been given a spot on the ECW roster along with DJ Gabriel, a dancing wrestler she met overseas in the aftermath of her brief affair with Edge on Smackdown.

- Stephanie McMahon is also thankful for her job. The daughter of WWE Chairman Vince McMahon has now replaced Mike Adamle as GM of the show, at least temporarily. There may be a bit of a holiday sibling rivalry going on between her and Shane, so time will tell how Raw responds.

As for Thanksgiving dinner we should all get filled up with Turkey. In case you don't get enough, the WWE divas have a "Diva Turkey Shoot" over at WWE.com. The pictorial features most of the divas in sexy Thanksgiving costumes to get fans in the holiday spirits! Everyone from Natalya to Mickie James, Maryse, Layla, Maria & the Bella twins dressed up as pilgrims or Indians!

For fans of the new divas, the Bella Twins, here's even more info and pictures available of the beautiful Brianna and Nicole! Included are candid studios of the lovely twin sisters posing together in pink and red outfits. The Bella Twins are all smiles and are making a captivating addition to the Smackdown roster. According to her bio, WWE Diva Brie Bella is a half-Mexican, half-Italian beauty hailing from Scottsdale, Arizona. Since her debut on Smackdown this past Summer, she's been involved in a feud with fellow diva Victoria, winning several matches against her in surprise fashion.

Just a week ago, it was finally revealed that Brie's twin sister, Nicole had been the one helping her win matches. Nicole had been hiding underneath the ring and would sneak out at opportune times to help grab a surprise pinfall. It was usually WWE Diva Victoria who was on the losing end of the surprise. Time will tell if thes Bella Twins will use their trick to somehow capture the Divas or Womens Championship. But for now, they're easy on the eyes and managing to pull off victories on Smackdown!

The beautiful Alicia Fox, real name Victoria Crawford, is the latest to join the lovely WWE Divas of pro-wrestling. She had her start with Ohio Valley Wrestling where she refereed a contest between ODB & Shelly Martinez (now with TNA), and also has been in Florida Championship Wrestling. Fox debuted on September 25, 2007 in FCW in a tag team match. Her partner was current Smackdown diva Natalya and they faced fellow WWE divas, Nicole and Brie Bella. Fox returned to FCW in 2008 after a brief stint on Smackdown. During this time, Fox wrestled in matches with the likes of Ryan Braddock (as a teammate) and faced the Bella twins in singles matches.

Alicia had her WWE start earlier this year in a minor Smackdown role. She first started working as the wedding planner for Edge and Vickie Guerrero on June 13, 2008. Edge cheated with her during a private meeting, and Triple H managed to catch them kissing on tape. HHH presented it to the fans, as well as the entire wedding party, enraging Vickie Guerrero. The footage caused chaos with the wedding being called off, and Vickie Guerrero eventually seeking retribution by reinstating the Undertaker to come to WWE and destroy Edge. Alicia was involved in Edge's WWE title match against Triple H at the Great American Bash Pay-Per-View. She attempted to help out Edge, but Vickie Guerrero intervened, causing Edge to spear Vickie. The resulting distraction may have caused Edge to lose the match. After that event, Fox wasn't seen or heard from for several weeks until her recent ECW debut.

Alicia Fox made her ECW debut on the 11/18/08 episode of ECW as the ringside valet of new superstar, DJ Gabriel. The duo danced their way down to the ring as well as in it with Alicia strutting her stuff, despite some negative crowd reaction. Alicia provided eye candy during Gabriel's debut in which he beat a European amateur wrestler using a European forearm uppercut off the second rope. ECW Commentators Todd Grisham and Matt Striker noted that Alica Fox is not only a wedding planner, but also an entrepreneur, which explains her relationship with DJ Gabriel in the WWE.

Survivor Series 08' - Raw Divas vs. Smackdown Divas

It's a first of its kind when we see a traditional Survivor Series match featuring 10 of the hottest divas in pro-wrestling! On one side of the equation will the lovely divas from Raw, captained by Women's Champion, Beth Phoenix. The Glamazon heads up a diva squad consisting of Candice Michelle, Mickie James, Kelly Kelly and Jillian Hall. On the opposing team will be a Smackdown team lead by Divas Champion, Michelle McCool. McCool will lead Smackdown divas Maria, Natalya, Victoria and Maryse into battle at Survivor Series.

The X-factor in this match is whether the teams will be able to get along and wrestle effectively in the name of their brand. There's no love lost between divas Candice Michelle, Mickie James and Beth Phoenix. Phoenix has defeated both divas several times in regular and title matches. As for the Smackdown divas, the heels outnumber the faces. McCool has had a target on her back ever since becoming the first ever Divas champion. She's not only defeated Natalya for the title, but successfully defended against both Maryse and Maria.

Which team will fare better in this traditional Survivor Series match pitting the Raw divas against Smackdown divas? The battle may be decided for WWE diva brand supremacy at Survivor Series, Sunday November 23, 2008.

WWE Divas Costume Contest

The WWE Divas will be having another Halloween Costume contest at 2008 Cyber Sunday (10/26) which you the fans of WWE Universe can vote on! Voting will go down during the event. Last year's event saw Mickie James win it all with her sexy Indian costume. Also in the contest were WWD Divas Jillian Hall as Britney Spears, Maria as a cat, Torrie Wilson as a Redskins football player, and Victoria in her hilarious Sumo wrestler outfit!

In this year's event, diva favorites like Kelly Kelly and Maria will try for the win, and newcomers such as Brie Bella will try to sway the fan vote. To prepare for Halloween and the Cyber Sunday contest this year, Victoria is looking for Myspace members to give her ideas about what to dress up as!

I read on a gossip site that Justin Credible is working at Olive Garden. There was an Olive Garden very close to my old restaurant in Louisville. Some of their employees used to come eat at my place. I heard it is a great company to work for. Very, very few wrestlers are able to retire after their wrestling career, and I think Justin chose a great second career. And nothing beats the rush of working in a high energy kitchen ! Best of luck on your next challenge, Justin !

WWE Diva Brie Bella

On the Friday August 29, 2008 edition of Smackdown, a brand new WWE diva made her in-ring debut, named Brie Bella. Brie took on longtime diva Victoria and earned a victory in her debut. Here's more information about the beautiful new diva, Brie Bella.

Background info: Brianna Garcia (WWE's "Brie Bella") has a twin sister Nicole and the two were raised in Scottsdale, Arizona. Brianna began modeling, acting and promo work when she was in college and eventually went on to do trade shows and international magazine spots. Her and her sister Nicole also appeared as the World Cup Twins for Budweisder, holding the world cup trophy in a photo shoot for the event. The duo also competed in a 2006 "International Body Doubles Twin Search", with Brianna using the name Stephanie.

The twin sisters, the Bella twins, were signed to a WWE developmental contract in 2007 and they began working with Florida Championship Wrestling to improve their in-ring skills. Brianna and her sister have wrestled in tag team encounters which had Natalya Neidhart (of Smackdown) on the other side.

WWE Debut: As previously mentioned, WWE Diva Brie Bella made her Smackdown debut on August 29, 2008, as she wrestled against heel diva Victoria. During the contest, Victoria was in control of the match and had thrown Brie to the outside of the ring. Speculation says that Brie's twin sister snuck out from under the ring to switch places with her, then was able to make a surprise pin on Victoria for the win. Brie's finishing moves are the "Spinning Facebuster", "Scoop slam", "Diving Cross Body" and a "Handspring Back Elbow".

Based on recent web traffic reports, WWE Diva Michelle McCool was Yahoo!'s most searched person last Saturday. The diva heard the news as she arrived to the Backlash arena last weekend and was in disbelief, thinking it was another person who had the same name as her.

According to WWE.com:

“It is very exciting for me. I mean, this was the day of the NFL Draft – the freaking NFL Draft!,” she exclaimed. “For a small-town, Florida girl, this is one of the biggest honors for me. I appreciate it so much. All of the fans, everybody that went out there on the Internet and was looking up my name, I just can’t tell you how excited I am. This is just awesome!”

McCool said she heard the news on Sunday when she received a phone call from a friend. When she arrived at the arena in Baltimore for Backlash, the WWE Superstars and Divas were abuzz over McCool.

"I actually got online and went to check my e-mail, and I always look at the top news, and I saw my name and I thought, ‘There’s got to be another Michelle McCool,’ or ‘This is a mistake,’ or something!” she laughed.

Maria on FHM's Sexiest Women of 08'

According to FHM Magazine's Top 100 Sexiest Women of 2008, Maria Kanellis ranks 84th on the list. Maria edged out names like Madonna, Reese Witherspoon, Rachel McAdams (Mean Girls) and Britney Spears to take the 84th spot.

FHM gave the following brief description of the lovely WWE Diva:

This WWE Diva defeats her opponents with her signature "Beautiful Bulldog" finishing move and has her own entrance theme entitled "With Legs Like That"

Maria shares a page on the FHM site with the #85 sexiest woman, Olivia Munn, who is a host from "Attack of the Show". In case you're wondering, Megan Fox (Transformers) took first place on the list, followed by Jessica Biel and Jessica Alba. See FHM's list of the 100 Sexiest Women in 2008.

WWE Diva News - Candice & Melina

There's news from the Bunnymania side of Wrestlemania. According to the National Ledger, one Candice reported pain after her recent wrestling match, and it may jeopardize the match at WM24.

World Wrestling Entertainment Monday Night Raw Diva Candice Michelle may be out of action again, as the hyper-sexual Go Daddy Super Bowl spokesperson was hospitalized in Lafayette, Louisiana after last night's live broadcast of Raw on the USA Network.

Wrestling News Desk.com editor Matthew Cooper reported that Candice, who broke her left clavicle during a match against WWE Womens' Champion Beth Phoenix last October, was wrestling in her first televised match since the injury. Candice teamed with Wrestlemania Playboy Cover Girl Maria Kanellis against Jillian and Victoria, and notified WWE Athletic Trainer Chris Brannon immediately after the match of a sharp pain in her left clavicle. She was sent to the hospital for x-rays.

WWE Diva Maria Dishes

It's been an amazing story and career thus far for WWE Diva Maria Kanellis. She has gone on to succeed in WWE despite failing to win the Diva search she was part of. She's now a regular on the Raw roster, first starting as a backstage reporter, then going on to be a wrestling diva and valet. This year, Maria has become even more successful as she achieved a Playboy cover and pictorial and will be a part of a match on the Wrestlemania 24 card.

Phillyburbs.com has a great interview with the lovely WWE Diva
, Maria. They discuss her rise to success with WWE, her influences, the Playboy situation, being a part of Wrestlemania and more. Here's an excerpt from Maria's talk with the website.

Eric – How discouraging was it not to win the WWE Diva Search?

Maria – Well, I’m glad now that I didn’t make it all of the way to the end. Because I have always been a fighter, I fight for what I believe in. It doesn’t matter that I placed five. I still showed my feistiness, my aggressiveness you know flipping the bird at Carmella and getting out of there. I called every single week. I wanted to be a part of the WWE, I was addicted. I was addicted to the energy from the live crowd. I was addicted to our amazing fans so it wasn’t discouraging at all. If anything, it was motivating.

Eric – Melina had mentioned that Al Snow pulled aside after the Tough Enough tryouts and encouraged her to continue. Did anyone pull you aside after you were eliminated from the contest?

Maria – You know there were a few people that gave me advice and stuff like that, but actually when I was leaving the arena going back to the hotel, the driver in the car said, “I can tell that you really want this.” He was driving the limo. “I can tell that you really want this. If you fight for it, you’ll get it.” WWE is all about having that passion. He said, “Just keep going.” I’ve never forgotten that. Never.

Maria Kanellis' Playboy Cover

On this past week's Monday Night Raw, Candice Michelle and Jerry Lawler were on hand to help WWE Diva Maria unveil her April 2008 Playboy cover. The Sun UK website now showcases Maria's Playboy for fans. Santino Marella couldn't get to the webmasters in time to prevent them from showing "his Maria". The UK site offers the following regarding WWE Diva Maria:

Maria is quite simply the most beautiful, talented and genuinely warm Diva in the wrestling business today.

Q&A with Jim Ross & Ashley

Question: In this day of the Internet, John Cena showing up at the Royal Rumble and winning it was a huge surprise. How did this stay a secret?

Answer: "I can only assume that the few people that did know simply did not talk. The old saying, 'telephone, telegraph, tell a wrestler' did not apply here, as apparently only a handful of people knew of John Cena's entry into the Rumble match. I was not informed about Cena's involvement and enjoyed being surprised. Cena apparently did not arrive at Madison Square Garden until well after the event started. I was backstage most of the afternoon, and I never saw John all day."
