WWE NXT Cast & Final ECW Champion

Tuesday night's 2/16/10 episode of ECW is the final ECW show ever. With the close of the Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) era, there will be an interesting piece of trivia. Ezekiel Jackson became the final ECW Champion in the history of the brand, defeating Christian in an Extreme Rules match on the final show. Christian made a valiant effort, fighting off a feisty Zack Ryder, taking a slap to the face from Rosa Mendes, and chasing off William Regal with a Kendo stick. In the final moments though, Regal returned to attack Christian and ended up the victim of a Killswitch. That allowed Jackson the window of opportunity he needed to make his move. He grabbed Christian for his one-arm slam finisher, driving Christian straight through a wooden table for the final pinfall. Jackson becomes the final champion in ECW history, and he'll most likely use that as a bragging point wherever he heads next. Possibly Raw where he can challenge guys like Cena and HHH to give some fresh new heels to the mix.

During that championship match, we finally saw Tiffany show some of her aggressive wrestling prowess when she rushed to the ring and tackled down Rosa Mendes then tossed her out of the ring. Hopefully we'll see more of these two divas engaged in a feud on a WWE program like Raw or Smackdown.

Also on the final ECW on SyFy, they introduced the WWE Universe to the cast of WWE NXT which will premiere on next Tuesday night. The format of the show is a reality-based program with eight WWE Superstar "Pro's" mentoring eight new WWE Rookies. Here's who will be involved:

* Wade Barrett mentored by Chris Jericho
* Justin Gabriel mentored by Matt Hardy
* Skip Sheffield mentored by MVP
* Michael Tarver mentored by Carlito
* Daniel Bryan mentored by The Miz
* Heath Slater mentored by Christian
* Darren Young mentored by CM Punk
* David Otunga mentored by R-Truth

Each of the rookies involved in WWE NXT will graduate to one of the WWE brands at the end of their season, whether it be Raw or Smackdown. The rosters are definitely starting to pick up some momentum it seems.

WWE NXT will premiere next Tuesday night in ECW's timeslot on SyFy, 10PM EST.

ECW to end, WWE NXT to begin

According to an announcement on Tuesday night's ECW on SyFy, the ECW brand will officially end in three weeks time. WWE Chairman Vince McMahon appeared on the ramp to let everyone know a new "evolution in television" will take its place at that time, the same time slot ECW currently has. The fans cheered the news, but it will mean the end of a four year run for ECW under WWE.

According to reports for months, ECW was being pressured by SyFy execs to get better ratings. Unfortunately it wasn't able to live up to its bigger brothers in Smackdown and Raw which do well in their current spots. Then again, ECW is more of a show for newer talent, and the new show which replaces it will be even more of that type of showcase. The next show will be named "WWE NXT" and we can supposedly expect to see much more developmental talent on that show. Right now ECW has several FCW stars such as Vance Archer, Trent Barreta and Caylen Croft as well as ring announcer Savannah. The recent member to join CM Punk's Straightedge Society named Serena is also a FCW alum. So expect to see more fresh faces and new stories to come from FCW. Check out the current FCW talent roster here.

Most likely we'll see Christian as the last ECW champion, having successfully defended his belt at the Royal Rumble against Ezekiel Jackson. The belt will probably be retired and Christian may make his move to Smackdown or Raw for bigger championships. Stay tuned as more news comes forth on WWE NXT, which is scheduled to begin airing on SyFy March 2, 2010.

WWE's Next Champions - 2010 edition

With the impending Royal Rumble in about 2 weeks or so, and Wrestlemania 26 around the corner, speculation can begin on who will have which titles heading into the event. Based on recent storylines and match setups on ECW, Smackdown and Raw, let's consider the possibilities and speculate a bit...

WWE Raw - WWE Title belongs to Sheamus right now. Randy Orton just earned a sneaky WWE title shot at the Rumble thanks to Legacy's help in a Fatal Fourway. It's rare to see two heels face off at a Pay-Per-View, unless Orton is going face. My first thought is that somehow, Cena and/or Kofi Kingston who were screwed out of the title shot Monday, will somehow get put into a Fatal Fourway with Orton/Sheamus at Royal Rumble. My next though, if it holds up as just Orton vs Sheamus, we'll see Orton possibly as WWE Champion come Wrestlemania, with the possibility that Ted Dibiase wins the Royal Rumble this year. That may be why Legacy gave the help to Orton 1)they don't want him in the Royal Rumble match so they can win, and 2) they want to face Orton at Wrestlemania 26 for the title. Smart move by Legacy. I don't expect Sheamus to be WWE Champion at Wrestlemania 26, unless WWE does a lot more to build up his heel status.

WWE Smackdown - World Heavyweight title belongs to The Undertaker, and he's held it for a surprisingly long reign. He's not competing as much as he did in the good ol' days, but it looks like he and Rey Mysterio will face off at the Rumble. With the challenge Shawn Michaels issued for a rematch with Undertaker, it seems unlikely Taker will be a title holder if he accepts HBK's rematch for WM26. That opens up the possibility that either Rey Mysterio or Batista will be your champ come Wrestlemania 26, so they can defend. My other thought is somehow Edge is going to factor into all of this, whether it means he and Jericho are competing at WM26, or Edge sneaks into this year's Royal Rumble. Would be a great surprise! For now, I foresee Rey Mysterio as the champion at WM26, because he's a huge crowd favorite.

ECW - Christian is your current ECW Champion, and another lengthy title holder. With the recent ECW Homecoming tournament and finale Battle Royal, Ezekiel Jackson has emerged as #1 Contender. He's being trained and groomed by William Regal, and I expect Jackson will probably win the title at the Rumble. However, there's the speculation that they are getting rid of the ECW name, with that the ECW title would somehow be retired, and possibly Christian needs to be the guy wearing it when that happens. Jackson will likely be holding that title after the Rumble, whatever it's been called.

The WWE Divas Championship will be decided as well and it seems way too obvious that Maryse will win that tournament. If not Maryse, Alicia Fox. I don't see Eve Torres advancing to the finals, so Maryse will be there. But will Maryse face Gail Kim, a face, or Alicia Fox a heel? That will be the interesting part. Maryse has been built up as the top heel contender prior to Melina's injury, so I expect she'll be our new WWE Divas Champion soon.

DX likely won't have the tag team titles at WM26, especially if Michaels is in a match with The Undertaker again. That opens up possibilites for a near team like The Hart Dynasty from Smackdown or Croft and Baretta from ECW to either be the champs or become champs at WM26. Perhaps they'll hold a fourway tag match or something. I think Drew McIntyre can hold the IC title until Wrestlemania 26, but not sure The Miz will do the same with the United States belt. He's being built up well though, so it may be time for his spotlight. Other US title contenders probably include MVP, Mark Henry, Primo, Carlito and Chris Masters right now.

So there's some food for thought on how the title situations should play out. And don't forget we have the popular "Money in the Bank ladder match" each year at Wrestlemania 26, and why not have Punk become a back to back to back champ for history's sake?

The longest WWE title reign in 2009 was by Randy Orton who held the WWE Championship for a total of 90 days (6/15/09 to 9/13/09). Triple H was second with a 70 day title reign.

Stats review: A total of 8 title changes/reigns for the World Heavyweight title occurred in 2009. Edge, Jeff Hardy and CM Punk each enjoyed a total of 2 reigns in 2009. The longest title reign here for 09' is still going as of today, since Undertaker has held the title for 87 plus days now, ever since winning it back on 10/4/09 at Hell in a Cell. Edge & CM Punk are tied for second with 49 day reigns in 2009

Current World Champion: The Undertaker

ECW Championship reigns

Jack Swagger def. Matt Hardy 1/12/09 at ECW on SciFi
Christian def. Jack Swagger 5/26/09 at Backlash 2009
Tommy Dreamer won Triple Threat 6/7/09 at Extreme Rules 2009
Christian def. Tommy Dreamer 7/26/09 at Night of Champions 2009

Stats review: There were just 4 title reigns or changes for the ECW Championship in 2009, with Christian enjoying two of those. The longest reign also belongs to Christian who has held the title for 157+ days as the reigning champion since 7/26/09. Jack Swagger is second with a 104 day title reign.

Current champion: Christian

Intercontinental Championship reigns

CM Punk def. William Regal (No DQ) 1/19/09 at Raw

John Morrison def. Rey Mysterio 9/1/09 at Smackdown
Drew McIntyre def. John Morrison 12/13/09

Stats review: There were a total of 7 IC title reigns in 2009. John Morrison held the title for a total of 103 days, the longest reign of the year. Rey Mysterio was second with a reign of 65 days, and third with a reign of 63 days. Also of note, Chris Jericho moved into the #13 spot on the Longest combined reigns list this past year, having held the IC title a total of 318 days over 9 reigns.

Current Champion: Drew McIntyre

United States Championship reigns

MVP def. Shelton Benjamin 3/17/09 at Smackdown
Kofi Kingston def. MVP 6/1/09 at Raw
The Miz def. Kofi Kingston 10/5/09 at Raw

Stats review: Just 3 title reigns make the US title look like the most stable and consistent title in the ranks of the WWE. Kofi Kingston enjoyed the longest reign of 126 days total this past year, but The Miz has held it 86+ days and MVP held it 76 days.

Current champion: The Miz

Unified Tag Team title reigns:

The Colons def. John Morrison & The Miz (Lumberjack title unification match) 4/5/09 at Wrestlemania 25
Edge & Chris Jericho won Triple Threat 6/28/09 at The Bash 2009
Chris Jericho & Big Show - defended titles 7/26/09 at Night of Champions 2009 (*Big Show was chosen to replace injured Edge)
D-Generation X def. JeriShow (TLC match) 12/13/09 TLC PPV

Stats review: Really just four title changes, and that's counting Jericho choosing Big Show to help him defend the titles after Edge was hurt. JeriShow held the titles for 140 days, although if you count Jericho's partnering with Edge, he alone held the total of 168 days. The WWE Tag team titles and World Tag team titles were unified as the "Unified Tag team titles" during a dark Lumberjack match prior to the official card for Wrestlemania 25.

Current Champions: D-Generation X (Shawn Michaels & Triple H)

As noted above the United States Championship continues to be quite stable. You can argue a few things, such as the fact that the WWE and World Heavyweight titles are nearly defended at every WWE PPV during the year, while the IC, ECW & US titles aren't. It's also interesting to see that so many title changes occur in non-traditional matches, whereas in the past that wasn't the case. Then again, in the past, the titles didn't change over quite so often. We'll have a poll coming up to vote on which title changes hands first in 2010. Happy New Year to all WWE Fans!

Thoughts on Raw, ECW & Royal Rumble 09'

Today we'll take a look at this past week's episode of WWE Raw, ECW & Royal Rumble among other topics. Johnny Damon's hosting job on Raw was a pleasant surprise. Obviously WWE couldn't resist the silly Tiger jokes, and the DX-Hornswoggle thing was a bit much, but overall Damon did a decent job hosting. His delivery wasn't dry like other guest hosts (the NASCAR guys or English boxer), and he set up some good matches, including Cena's rematch for the WWE title next week on Raw.

About that, the speculation is running wild; Will Cena reclaim the title already next week? Apparently John Cena's name is still etched on the belt that Sheamus is hoisting up week after week to brag about. Some question whether or not Cena will become WWE Champ again next week. I think next week's match will be a way to establish Sheamus in some way as the heel champion, by making him win via cheap tactics or a countout, but he'll hold the title. It makes you wonder how long he's going to hold it? Until Wrestlemania 26? That's about 3 months, and I can't see him headlining WM26 against Cena, unless WWE really gets Sheamus to the point he needs to be at. He's just not a big draw, although he's got the Irish fans behind him.

That brings us to the 2009 Royal Rumble. There's a big question mark on who will win that. Maybe Cena if he's not fighting Sheamus for the WWE title there. Maybe Batista or Jericho. Maybe some surprise returning star? It's really a tough call. We'll have a better idea once we see what happens in next week's WWE title match on Raw. Last year's winner, Randy Orton, failed to capture the WWE title at Wrestlemania 25 from HHH. So will this year's winner be a lock to become a WWE Champion? It's going to be interesting.

For the ECW Homecoming we now have four superstars qualified of the eight total. Yoshi Tatsu beat Jack Swagger last night to become #4. He joins Vance Archer, Kane and Ezekiel Jackson. They're going to want the winner of that to make for an exciting ECW title match against Christian at the Royal Rumble. Next week, Matt Hardy and Evan Bourne will be competing for a chance to join the field of eight. I'm assuming somehow that William Regal and Shelton Benjamin will be in the field, but we'll see.

In thinking about the whole "ECW Homecoming" concept, it seems strange that guys of Jack Swagger, Kane and Ezekiel Jackson's caliber (basically anyone in the tournament) would want to come back and compete for a chance at the ECW belt at the Royal Rumble Pay-Per-View. Wouldn't most superstars prefer to enter the Royal Rumble match and have a shot at the bigger prizes (WWE title or World Heavyweight)? Kane has also been in the Royal Rumble for quite a streak, so is that going to end this year?

Next week's Raw will be hosted by Timbaland, who has a new album to promote in Hartford, Connecticut. It should be a good show though, because the rap musician/producer actually is a WWE fan and has made appearances on WWE shows before.

WWE Superstars will feature Ezekiel Jackson and Vladimir Kozlov battling one-on-one, while Friday's Smackdown features two hot title matches: DX defends the tag titles against the Hart Dynasty, while the Undertaker puts his title on the line against Rey Mysterio, quite a Christmas treat for WWE fans. However, I'm expecting Batista to play the role of Grinch who steals Rey's Christmas...stay tuned.

ECW Recap 11.03.09

ECW Recap from Providence, RI:

A video highlighting last week's ECW title match between champ Christian and challenger Yoshi Tatsu was shown. Yoshi seemed to have serious momentum and several near falls, but ultimately Christian hit the Killswitch on him to preserve his title. As Christian went over to commend his opponent on the mat, both men fell victim to an attack by William Regal, Vladimir Kozlov and Ezekiel Jackson in the ring.

The champion Christian made his way out to the ring to start things off. Christian demanded that Regal come out to the ring immediately so he could confront him for what went down last week. Christian waited and when Regal didn't show, he said he'd go backstage to find him. He was about to leave the ring when ECW's GM Tiffany arrived out from backstage. Tiffany apologized for what happened saying it was a response to her decision. She told Christian not to give in to Regal's demands, but Christian said he didn't care any more and wants the match to happen. Just then, Regal came out from backstage with his two henchmen.

Regal said he holds the advantage here and asked Christian if he wants the match bad enough to make it an ECW title shot. Christian said sure and to do it right now. Tiffany stopped them saying that they already are scheduled in other matches tonight. Christian told her to re-schedule them, because he's in the building where he won his first ECW championship. Christian said he wants to defend the title in front of his Providence peeps. With a smile on his face, Regal said he's the one in control, and said he'll only accept the title match in front of a deserving crowd, not the Providence one. Regal said he wants the title match in England on next week's show. Christian accepted the terms and Tiffany made it official. Tiffany said Jackson and Kozlov are banned from ringside. She told Regal he's in action next.

Regal made his way to the ring and as he got the apron was hit by a baseball slide dropkick from Christian. Tiffany started to yell at Christian while Jackson/Kozlov rushed down to check on Regal.

Goldust vs. William Regal

Commentators Byron Saxton and Josh Matthews discussed how hellbent Regal has been on getting the ECW title. Regal shook off the effects of being dropkicked by Christian earlier. He had control on Goldust keeping him down in a headlock, but Goldust fought to get to his feet, then took Regal down with clotheslines and punches. Goldust built momentum as the match went on, hitting a powerslam on Regal followed by a takedown to the mat. He rushed Regal in the corner, with Regal avoiding it. Regal quickly ran at Goldust to hit the Knee Trembler, KOing the Bizarre one for the victory.

Winner: William Regal wins via pinfall over Goldust.

Zack Ryder was checking himself out in a mirror when new ECW diva Rosa Mendes came walking up. She said she's announcing his match tonight. As Rosa kept talking, Zack started to daydream about her. She asked if he liked her new outfit and Zack said "you know it", then squeezed the bottle he was holding until liquid squirted out.

ECW returned with Rosa Mendes in the ring as guest ring announcer. She said she had been practicing all day and was a bit nervous. A WWE staffer came over to tell her to get on with it. Rosa introduced Zack Ryder first then his opponent, Shelton Benjamin.

Shelton Benjamin vs. Zack Ryder

Late in the match, Shelton knocked Ryder to the outside right near where Rosa was seated. Shelton went out and collected Ryder to put back in the ring. As Shelton got on the apron, Ryder grabbed the rope to yank Benjamin in. Shelton did a flip over the top rope, landing on both feet behind Ryder. Ryder was distracted as he became mesmerized with Rosa outside the ring and ended up eating the Paydirt finisher from Shelton. Rosa got up and announced Shelton as winner of the match.

Winner: Shelton Benjamin wins via pinfall over Zack Ryder.

In tonight's main event, Christian teams with Yoshi Tatsu to battle Ezekiel Jackson and Vladimir Kozlov.

When ECW returned Josh Matthews discussed how many WWF/WWE superstars have hailed from "Parts unknown". He said with Chris Jericho's help, fans are trying to discover the "Bermuda Triangle" of Superstars on WWE.com.

Paul Burchill and Katie Lea were in the ring. Burchill said he told Gregory Helms to have The Hurricane meet him in the ring tonight. Burchill started saying he was a no show, but then Hurricane's theme video started. Hurricane came out with a green Kendo stick and mic in hand. Burchill told him Halloween's over, and Helms said it lasts year round for some people such as Katie Lea. Burchill told Hurricane he's a fraud, because he's duped fans into thinking he's a superhero. Burchill said he's well spoken, and has good family values, yet the fans root for Hurricane. Hurricane said maybe it's because the fans like to have fun just like him. He also said "chicks dig superheroes". Burchill was irate and challenged Hurricane to one more match. Burchill said if he wins, Hurricane must unmask to expose himself. Burchill said if he loses, he and his sister will leave ECW. Hurricane gladly accepted.

Abraham Washington was walking with Tony Atlas backstage. Abe was complaining about Regal tearing apart his set last week. He started talking to Atlas about all the new set stuff they could buy once Tiffany approves it. He said he'd even get a sound efx machine for Atlas to use. They went to Tiffany's office and knocked on the door, and a large new wrestler came walking out. Tiffany came out and Abe asked who that was. Tiffany said it's the newest ECW star, Vance Archer, and he's intense.

ECW returned with highlights from Monday Night Raw hosted by Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne. They showed highlights of Raw's got Talent which was judged by Sharon, Ozzy and Great Khali. The last contestants were Jillian Hall and Chavo doing a duet which the crowd booed. Jillian and Chavo took exception when they were given the buzzer by Ozzy and Sharon so they went to the ring. Jillian got in Sharon's face and ended up getting slapped. Chavo also got chopped down by Great Khali, then hit with a Tadpole Frogsplash from Hornswoggle dressed as Jack Osbourne.

Logan Jones vs. Vance Archer

Jones was announced as a local Providence, RI wrestler to face the new "intense wrestler" Vance Archer. Vance immediately shoved Jones out through the ropes. Archer was 6'8, and clearly towered over his competitor. He roughed him up in the corner before hitting a slam move followed by his inverted suplex style finisher. Archer made quick work of Jones in about 2 minutes or so.

Winner: Vance Archer wins via pinfall over Logan Jones.

Christian and Yoshi Tatsu were walking backstage, ready for their main event tag match.

Next week, William Regal gets his official championship match against Christian in England.

Christian & Yoshi Tatsu vs. Ezekiel Jackson & Vladimir Kozlov

Kozlov got Christian up on one shoulder for a move, but the champ managed to escape and slide off. Christian ducked another move then hit an inverted DDT. Jackson rushed in to break up the pinfall. Yoshi came in to aid Christian, and together they tossed Jackson to the outside. Yoshi did a dive over the top rope onto Jackson. Kozlov grabbed Christian and tossed him over his back to the mat. However, Kozlov missed as he charged at Christian in the corner. Christian hit a DDT move, then waited for Kozlov to get up and was able to hit Killswitch to win it.

There wasn't much victory celebration as William Regal quickly arrived to attack. Christian fought him off for a bit, until Jackson got back in the ring and clubbed Christian from behind. Kozlov got up to help with the beating, with Yoshi seeming to be taken out outside the ring. The heel trio dragged Christian over to the ringpost where Jackson and Kozlov yanked Christian against the ringpost so he hurt his side. They continue beating on him, with Regal putting the Regal stretch on him outside the ring. Christian screamed in pain from the attack. ECW ended with Regal, Kozlov and Jackson admiring their work on the fallen champion.

Winners: Christian & Yoshi Tatsu win via pinfall over Vladimir Kozlov & Ezekiel Jackson.

ECW Recap 10.06.09

ECW from Trenton, NJ:

ECW opened with a recap of last week's show, where William Regal was made interim GM for ECW due to Tiffany being in a car accident. Regal tried to arrange a four on one handicap match with himself, Kozlov, Jackson and Ryder. The board of directors called to tell him to change it to an eight man tag with Yoshi Tatsu, Goldust, Christian and Tommy Dreamer facing them. Yoshi Tatsu was able to pick up the big win for his team by pinning Regal, after everyone else ended up outside the ring.

After the pyro went off, Matthews and Striker noted that the championship landscape has changed since Hell in a Cell. The interim ECW GM Regal, along with Kozlov and Jackson made their way to the ring to open the show. Regal sent his best wishes to Tiffany as she recovers from her injuries. Regal told the fans that him being interim GM was the right thing to do. Regal said that despite the board of directors' decision last week, he has decided that the right thing to do was make him the #1 Contender for the ECW title. As Regal continued to go on, he was interrupted as Zack Ryder came out from backstage with a mic in hand.

Ryder reminded Regal that he took away his match against Christian last week. Ryder said it was Regal's bad move last week that cost them their 8-man tag match. Regal and Ryder started to argue with one another, and Christian emerged from backstage to interrupt them. Christian said neither of them deserve to be the #1 Cotender for the title. Christian said he has proof, and three guys from backstage came out. One was a janitor nicknamed Lofaz. Christian said he replaced all the urinals in one section today, so he's more deserving of a ECW title shot than Ryder or Regal. Next up was Tony Atlas, WWE Hall of Famer, who Christian also said is more deserving of a title shot. Finally, he had Yoshi Tatsu, who Christian said pinned both Regal and Ryder in recent weeks. Christian said Yoshi is the most deserving #1 contender out there.

Christian then said he bumped into someone backstage, and out came the ECW GM Tiffany with a cast on her left arm. Tiffany said she's back and has not yet decided the new #1 contender, but all of them will be in action tonight to make their case. Tiffany booked Christian to face Ryder in a non-title match, Regal to face Yoshi Tatsu, and up next Kozlov & Jackson in tag action.

Tommy Dreamer & Goldust vs. Vladimir Kozlov & Ezekiel Jackson

Kozlov powered Tommy down and then to the corner early, with Dreamer able to battle out and tag in Goldust early. Goldust made an early quick tag to do a doubleteam leg sweep. Kozlov took Dreamer down though and tagged in Jackson. Tommy was able to knock Jackson down and made another quick tag to Goldust. The faces tried to make quick tags to work over their bigger opponents. Jackson tried to charge at Goldust near the ropes, with Goldust moving away. Jackson went to the outside, so Dreamer jumped off the apron onto him. Jackson put Goldust on his shoulder to go at the ring post, but Goldust slipped off and shoved Jackson to the post.

Goldust tossed Jackson back in, and went to get on the apron. Kozlov yelled at him and that allowed Jackson to club Goldust off the apron. On the outside, Kozlov attacked him. The heels took control from there as they began the doubleteam efforts on Goldust. Goldust managed to hit his drop down move to punch Jackson, then avoided him in the corner to tag in Dreamer. Dreamer came in to start taking it to Jackson, then knocked Kozlov off the apron. Dreamer with a flying crossbody on Jackson. He eventually went for a pin, with Kozlov coming in to break it up. Goldust came in to take out Kozlov. Dreamer ran over to shove Kozlov off the apron, and that allowed Jackson to take control and take out Dreamer for a pin.

Winners: Vladimir Kozlov & Ezekiel Jackson win via pinfall over Goldust and Tommy Dreamer.

William Regal was backstage with GM Tiffany watching the match on a monitor. Regal suggested that Tiffany might have come back a bit too early with her injuries. Tiffany said she has a lot to worry about now that she's back, such as the new #1 contender for the ECW title, and the possibility that John Cena might come to ECW after Bragging Rights, if he loses. Tiffany told Regal he should go get ready since his match is up next.

Raw Rebound covered Pittsburgh Steelers' QB Ben Roethlisberger as guest host of Raw. Sportscenter even covered his hosting, which included Ben scheduling a Divas bowl, coming face to face with JeriShow, and scheduling Kofi Kingston to defend the US Title against The Miz. Roethlisberger brought out his offensive linesmen to cause JeriShow to leave the ring. He then scheduled DX to face JeriShow in the main event. Jericho and Big Show tried to leave the match, but again Roethlisberger came out from backstage with his linesmen to block them from exiting. DX ended up winning it. Raw ended with Roethlisberger and his fellow players doing the DX Crotch chop as the pyro went off.

Yoshi Tatsu vs. William Regal

Early on, the ref stopped Yoshi from attacking Regal, and allowed Regal to adjust his boots and tights. Yoshi finally got his hands on Regal to take him down with the armbar. Regal kept wasting time by pausing to adjust his boots. Striker said Regal didn't have a lot of time to change out of his suit so fans should give him a break. Regal and Yoshi ended up colliding as they came off the ropes, so Regal gained control. Regal tried for the Russian legsweep with Yoshi countering it. Regal put on a submission, but Yoshi fought out of it and knocked Regal to the outside. Yoshi went out and threw Regal back in, to keep control of things as ECW went to commercial.

When ECW returned, Regal managed to catch Yoshi from a bodypress attempt, then dumped him outside the ring. Regal went outside to beat on Yoshi more then brought him back into the ring for another submission hold to ground Yoshi. Yoshi got to his feet to start fighting back, but he stumbled allowing Regal to knock him back down for another locked in submission hold. Yoshi was able to get to his feet and grab Regal's leg to twist it. Yoshi began to gain momentum and did a whirling elbow from the ropes to bring Regal down for a near fall. Yoshi signaled for a finisher and got up to the corner, but missed on the move. Regal prepared for the running knee on Yoshi, but Tatsu avoided it then quickly did his roundhouse kick. Tatsu got the winning pin, but Regal had his foot underneath the bottom rope. Jackson and Kozlov came to the ring to help Regal threaten the ref over the decision. Striker said he feels Regal has a legitimate gripe.

Winner: Yoshi Tatsu wins via pinfall over William Regal.

Josh Matthews and Striker covered the rivalry between Sheamus and Shelton Benjamin. Last week, Sheamus attacked Shelton prior to his match with Paul Burchill. Shelton still compted anyways and managed to pull off a win with Paydirt. These two will go up against one another on Thursday's episode of WWE Superstars.

Christian vs. Zack Ryder

Regal was still complaining to the ref about the decision as Ryder got to the ring. Kozlov and Jackson were seated at ringside. Ryder began to jaw at Regal as ECW went to commercial break. As the show returned, the ECW Champ Christian was introduced to the crowd's ovation. Regal, Jackson and Kozlov were at ringside to watch the main event.

The two locked up early with Christian taking Ryder into an arm hold. Ryder got back up and put his own on Christian, then kicked his leg out to drop him to the mat. Christian jumped back up and leveled Ryder for a quick pin attempt. Ryder managed to gain control as he avoided a dropkick attempt from Christian, then started to taunt Christian. Christian escaped from the corner and then jumped off the opposite corner with an elbow to Ryder. Another nearfall followed and then Christian went for a springboard sunset flip, with Ryder rolling through to kick him hard. Ryder then did a catapult with Christian into the bottom rope, before baseball slide dropkicking him to the outside as ECW took a break.

ECW returned with Ryder applying a headlock on Christian in the ring. Christian fought back briefly but soon Ryder had him back in the hold. Christian again got to his feet and he and Ryder traded strikes. Ryder managed to regain the advantage as he jumped and took Christian down from behind with a leg to the back of him. Ryder continued to stay in control and had severla nearfalls. He hit a neckbreaker, but Christian barely kicked out. Christian rallied with the WWE fans behind him then hit a powerbomb style slam for a near fall. The fans began clapping for the champ as he tried to gain momentum. On his feet, Christian punched Ryder then hit a spinning leg shot to his head. Ryder whipped Christian to the ropes but as the champ came back he knocked Ryder down.

Christian had several near falls, and signaled for the Killswitch. Ryder fought out of it and did a powerbomb for a near fall. Christian went to the apron, so Ryder walked over to grab him. Christian managed to backflip Ryder out of the ring, then climbed to the corner to jump off onto Ryder outside the ring. Kozlov and Jackson got up and began to attack Christian, causing the ref to call for the bell for the DQ.

To close things out Regal did his running knee on Christian to take him down. Ryder complained to Regal about ruining his opportunity tonight. Ezekiel Jackson clotheslined Ryder down, then Kozlov did his one-armed slam finisher on Ryder. Regal, Kozlov & Jackson stood triumphantly in the ring as the show closed.

Winner: Christian wins due to disqualification over Zack Ryder when Ezekiel Jackson and Vladimir Kozlov interfered.

WWE Hell in a Cell 2009 Analysis

WWE's Hell in a Cell (see full results) definitely surprised me with the two major titles changing over. In the case of the Undertaker, the guy's a clear legend, Hall-of-Fame bound, and obviously deserves all the accolades possible for his wrestling resume. However, giving him these short title reigns where he has to relinquish the belt within a few weeks after winning it seems to diminish the title. Questions start to come up: was this done just to transfer the title to someone else? Who will be the next champion - Jericho, Big Show, Kane, Batista? It will be interesting to see who the next challenger and champ is. They may even just trade the belt back to Punk so he can build up his resume. Looking ahead to the future, I can see Jericho holding the title come Wrestlemania 26, with Edge returning to challenge him. Just one possibility though.

People are questioning why DX versus Legacy closed out the Pay-Per-View, and with good reason. The other two Hell in a Cell matches involved title changes, possibly with Orton's being the shocker. Cena barely held the title for several weeks and traded it back to Orton again. That was surely a surprise, because as mentioned before the United States title has longer reigns than any other title around. Back in the day, guys like Hulk Hogan and Macho Man, Ric Flair, Bret Hart, held onto the WWE Title for months, even up to a year at most. Now the US title seems to carry more weight, with the WWE title a real mystery. Strange but true, Orton is now the new champ.

I was expecting that if any title changed over, it would be the Intercontinental or US, but those are sacred for now. Kofi Kingston has really received a decent push with this title reign, and having held the Intercontinental and Tag titles as well. Other matches went as expected, with Mickie James retaining her Divas title, JeriShow retaining the Unified tag titles, and the recently re-packaged Drew McIntyre winning his feud match in about 5 minutes over R-Truth.

The Drew McIntyre & Mickie James matches could easily have taken place on Smackdown and Raw, and they could have substituted an ECW Championship or grudge match. Recently the ECW matches have really been outdoing themselves, involving guys like Goldust, Sheamus, Regal, Ryder and Christian. Fans seem to get behind Goldust in a lot of arenas, so having him on the card wouldn't hurt.

The next Pay-Per-View will be just a few weeks away, called "Bragging Rights". Now we wait to see if we get yet another Cena vs. Orton match (the rematch for the WWE Title), and if the ECW gets a match at the event.

ECW Recap 09.22.09

ECW Recap from Tulsa, OK:

As ECW opened, Josh Matthews and Matt Striker said there was a championship atmosphere in the air, since tonight #1 Contender Zack Ryder goes after Christian and the ECW Title.

Tony Atlas introduced Abraham Washington to the top stage area for his talk show. Washington's guest on the show was the Celtic Warrior, Sheamus. Washington made comments about how Sheamus is so white and pale, putting on a pair of sunglasses. Sheamus took exception to this, then said he felt like he was on the set of "Sanford & Son". Sheamus talked about putting in all the hard work for his recent tag match, but Shelton Benjamin came in to steal the win. Sheamus said since Shelton took something from him, so he took something from Shelton. Abraham introduced Shelton Benjamin to the show to give his comments.

Shelton said he was surprised Abraham Washington wasn't canceled yet. Shelton told Sheamus there's a concept of team in America, so they both win if one wins. Sheamus told him about the Celtic code of honor, but said in America they steal and cheat. Shelton said he did some research on Sheamus' family history, then had a graphic show on the big screen of various redheaded characters like Pipi Longstocking, Ronald McDonald, and Carrot Top, indicating they were all related. Sheamus got in Shelton's face, so Shelton dared him to go for it. Shelton became distracted briefly, so Sheamus pounced on him. The two rolled over the couch punching on each other, until finally several WWE personnel came out to pull them apart.

Yoshi Tatsu was shown walking backstage on his way out for the next match.

Yoshi Tatsu vs. Paul Burchill

Burchill came to the ring with his sister Katie Lea. Footage was shown of Burchill assaulting Hurricane last week, right after Hurricane lost a match to William Regal.

Late in the match, Burchill was in control as he smashed Tatsu face first to the turnbuckle then climbed up the corner. Yoshi got up to fight him, but Burchill punched him down. Burchill then jumped from the corner to smash his knee into Tatsu on the mat. Burchill went for the pin with Yoshi surprisingly able to kick out of it. Burchill picked up Yoshi for a slam move, with Yoshi sliding off his back. Yoshi shoved Burchill to the corner hard and as he stumbled back, Yoshi delivered his famous roundhouse kick to Burchill's head.

Winner: Yoshi Tatsu wins via pinfall over Paul Burchill.

Footage was shown from last week's 10 person Battle Royal to determine #1 Contender for the ECW Title. Zack Ryder won it after dumping Tommy Dreamer out last minute.

Backstage, Savannah interviewed Zack Ryder about being #1 Contender. Ryder said he doesn't squander opportunities and after tonight he'll be called the ECW Champion, you know it.

Backstage, Paul Burchill was upset over his loss and looking around for Hurricane. Katie Lea tried to stop him but he went on without her. Gregory Helms came up and touched Katie on the arm to ask her some questions. Katie told him it's all his fault Paul is like this. As Helms was standing there, Burchill attacked from behind, knocking him down and punching away. He told Katie Lea to stay away from Helms and that he's not done with Helms by a longshot.

Dustin Brady & Brandon Young vs. Ezekiel Jackson & Vladimir Kozlov

Kozlov & Jackson came to the ring lead by William Regal. Early on, Young tried for an attack on Kozlov who shoved him against the ropes then hit him down with a battering ram move. Jackson came in and started to hammer away on the back of Young, before throwing him hard into the corner ringpost. His partner made a bold tag to get in, but Jackson grabbed him and tossed him over the ropes into the ring. Jackson continued to manhandle Brady, shoving him hard into the corner, then bringing in Kozlov. Jackson came back in again and delivered a vicious standing clothesline to level Brady, then used his one arm slam finisher to win it. Young got back in the ring to check on his partner, but was grabbed by Kozlov who hit his one-armed slam move on him.

Winners: Vladimir Kozlov & Ezekiel Jackson win via pinfall over Dustin Brady & Brandon Young.

When ECW returned, Matthews and Striker discussed John Cena having to face the Gauntlet on next week's episode of Raw. They hyped up Hell in a Cell, listing the various matches including DX vs. Legacy, John Cena vs. Orton, both Hell in a Cell matches.

Backstage, Regal was walking with Kozlov and Jackson as they came up to Goldust. Regal told Goldust they have a match Thursday on WWE Superstars. Goldust said he was looking forward to it, and Regal said he wasn't because it's a joke, just like tonight's ECW Title Match, and just like Goldust. Goldust got in his face, but Jackson and Kozlov stepped up as bodyguards. Regal said on Thursday he's going to give a display as to why he should be competing for the ECW Title.

The Smackdown Rebound covered GM Teddy Long admitting what he did at Breaking Point by screwing Undertaker out of the title win. On Smackdown Long tried to send an apology out to the WWE fans and Undertaker. Long had a team of security personnel with him as he went back to get into his limo. He told the driver he was ready to go several times, and then the passenger/driver window barrier rolled down revealing his driver was the Undertaker. The backseat area filled with smoke as Teddy yelled for someone to help him, and the limo drove off.

Christian was shown backstage with his ECW Championship belt in hand walking on his way out for the main event.

Zack Ryder vs. Christian
ECW Title Match

Ryder went for an early pinfall after knocking Christian down, but got no count. Ryder and Christian started to trade punches, until Ryder knocked Christian down again near the ropes. He tried to whip Christian to the ropes, but Christian reversed and eventually turned it into a headscissors to toss Ryder. From there Christian tossed his opponent to the outside and was about to dive out, but Ryder was up quick to avoid it. Christian got on the apron with Ryder trying to swipe his leg, but Christian hopped over him, then kicked Ryder, following up with a running baseball slide dropkick. Christian waited for Ryder to stand then did a leaping move from off the corner to crash onto Ryder outside.

Striker noted that no major singles title has ever been won in this particular arena, so Ryder will have to rewrite history. Christian attempted a pinfall with the ref counting just 1. Christian continued controlling things but as he sat on the corner, Ryder yanked his leg out to the mat. Ryder went for a pinfall but Christian barely escaped it. Ryder cockily motioned that he was close to winning, just as ECW went to break.

When ECW returned, Christian had control but as he came off the ropes Ryder tossed him in the air. Ryder with several pinfall attempts to no avail. Christian hit the Sunset Flip springboard off the corner but only scored a 2 count. Ryder crawled out to the apron and Christian came out to fight. Ryder punched him off, sending Christian into the steel steps. Back in the ring, Christian started to fight back until Ryder kneed him in the gut, then dropped him crotch first onto the top rope. Ryder went for several pinfalls but couldn't get the 3. Ryder with a legscissor to squeeze Christian's midsection. Ryder jumped off the corner at Christian, but Christian caught him and hit a flapjack.

The action became frantic in the closing minutes including Christian going for a Sunset Flip, but Ryder rolling through to hold Christian down for a near pinfall. Christian missed on a flying crossbody. Both men countered each other's moves. Ryder went for a pinfall using the ropes for leverage with Christian able to kick out. Christian managed to regain control of things as he did a slingshot of Ryder into the corner turnbuckle, then flew off the corner with a European uppercut. Christian quickly hit the Killswitch for the pinfall victory in a tough match.

Winner: Christian wins via pinfall over Zack Ryder to retain the ECW Title.

William Regal came out to interrupt Christian's victory celebration. Regal said since this farce is over with, now he'll become #1 Contender again and it won't be long until he is ECW Champion. Christian knocked the mic out of Regal's hand and started to punch away on him. Regal rolled out of the ring and began backing up the ramp. Christian held up his championship belt to close the show.

ECW & Smackdown Notes: Hardys, Regal, Titles

It's hard to say where ECW or Smackdown are heading but after this week we may have a few glimpses into what's in store. I'll start off with ECW, which presented a new ECW title contender out of nowhere, and seems to be failing a bit with its latest superstar initiative.

On the past week's ECW we got introduced to the new #1 title contender, Sir William Regal. It was surprising in that he didn't really win a big match before the announcement. In fact, he had a main event against Dreamer later in the show, which he won. I've never been a huge Regal fan, although I can respect he's put in a lot of work and is well respected in the WWE ranks. Still I'd rather see Shelton capture the ECW title next. If it were up to me, I would have set up a Fatal Fourway involving Regal, Dreamer, Zack Ryder and Shelton Benjamin. If I were to choose one of those four, I'd love to see a Shelton Benjamin vs. Christian program, and think many other fans might enjoy that as well. You'd also have to wonder why Vlad Kozlov and Zeke Jackson aren't even eligible for top contender status. Guess squashing 10 amateur wrestlers is not as major as Regal winning against newcomer Yoshi Tatsu.

The Abraham Washington Show is a pretty good idea that draws some good heat from the crowd, and at times he reminds me of a former WWF character, Brother Love. Brother Love was like a televangelist type talk show interviewer who would annoyingly say "I Looooove You" to get the crowd booing. Washington does his "thank you, thank you, thank you" quite the same and he draws some good heat as well. His shows are a good way to promote current feuds or upcoming PPV matches for ECW. I can see him crossing over onto Raw and Smackdown for this as well. What really set this week's Washington show off was when Christian stopped joking and cut a serious threatening promo to Washington to stop with the jokes. I was ready for Abe to either attack Jeff or bring out some new wrestler from FCW to take him out. Maybe even become Ezekiel Jackson's frontman. Instead, he introduced Regal as previously mentioned and Regal got into Christian's face. I'm still not sure if Abraham will be wrestling, but he's got the size for it, and definitely annoys opponents. Maybe he will become a manager.

While the Abraham Washington idea has goood potential, unfortunately the other newer ECW stars seem to be faltering. Not that they aren't talented, but the fans aren't too interested yet. One case is Tyler Reks, who I really don't see going very far. Yoshi Tatsu has the similar appeal of a Funaki-Tajiri style guy, but will he really be winning titles? We've also got Sheamus, who has the size and look of a wrestler but needs to work on his gimmick and speaking skills. Between him and Kozlov, they waste valuable mic time by speaking incoherently. Speaking of Kozlov, let's hope he and Zeke Jackson get it on in a real match soon, as the staredowns and who can do the slam move best has become repetitive. Goldust seems to be fitting in nicely since moving to ECW, and The Bella Twins get something to do besides their nails backstage (guest ring announce).

Now for Smackdown, where I don't know what to expect with Matt Hardy. I say this because he turned against Jeff once, so why would twice be out of the question here? He could potentially find a way to cost Jeff the title yet again, or he could sincerely reunite with him and the Hardys could make a run at Big Show and Jericho for the Unified titles. Seems like an accolade the Hardys deserve on their impressive resumes. But, possibly Matt wants a shot at Jeff's World Heavyweight Title too? As of the end of last night's Smackdown, it seems all's good in Hardyville as he helped Jeff up, and the duo stood side by side with John Morrison after fighting off CM Punk and the Harts.

Which brings us to John Morrison...The guy's got major talent, and if anyone should be wearing the title belt it's him right now. I have this bad feeling WWE will give him the IC title somehow, by defeating Dolph Ziggler. He really needs a major title, and WWE needs to give him a push early. Why keep working on it for months, when he's already oohing and ahhing with his moves. He has quick paced offense and puts in work. He's held the IC title, the ECW title, the tag titles several times. Seems destined for the big title, but how long will he and the fans have to wait? Maybe a big Wrestlemania moment?

That said, the two guys most deserving of major titles right now (if you call ECW's title major) are Shelton Benjamin and John Morrison. Both these guys have been relatively clean and put in top notch efforts in their matches with great athletic abilities. Why not reward them? Feel free to agree/disagree in the comments below.

ECW Recap 07.28.09

ECW Recap from Baltimore, MD:

ECW opened with highlights from Night of Champions ECW Title match between Christian and Tommy Dreamer. Christian was able to pull off a win with the Killswitch, and hugged Dreamer after the victory.

Matt Striker and Josh Matthews welcomed fans to the show just 48 hours removed from Night of Champions 2009.

Tyler Reks vs. Paul Burchill

A small picture in picture promo came up of Tyler Reks talking about getting revenge on Paul Burchill for last week's incident. Burchill came to the ring with his sister Katie Lea and immediately went to work on his opponent. Burchill did a back splash on Reks on the mat, then used his legs to squeeze Reks' midsection.

After another submission hold was applied by Burchill, Reks managed to escape. He also was able to deliver a strong clothesline to knock Burchill out of the ring, then jumped on him from over the ropes. Back in the ring, Reks was thrown onto the apron by Burchill near the corner. Burchill tried to run Reks from the apron into one of the ringposts, with Reks avoiding it. He hit Burchill then climbed on the turnbuckle to hit a missile dropkick for the win.

Winner: Tyler Reks wins via pinfall over Paul Burchill.

Josh Matthews announced that new ECW champion Christian will face Zack Ryder later tonight.

Bill Baine vs. Vladimir Kozlov

Kozlov was able to toss his smaller opponent onto the corner and hit him several times. Baine came off the corner punching away, but Kozlov ducked his attempts and ended up putting him stomach first on the corner for a running kick. Kozlov then picked up Baine and threw him backwards across the ring before hitting his one armed slam to make the pin.

After the victory, Kozlov surveyed the damage, standing over his fallen opponent. Ezekiel Jackson's music hit and he came down the ramp from backstage to get in the ring. Jackson stared over at Kozlov for several moments, then went over and picked up Baine for his own version of the one armed slam move. Jackson then left the ring to walk up the ramp.

Winner: Vladimir Kozlov wins via pinfall over Bill Baine.

Tommy Dreamer spoke to Tiffany backstage, and she told him that was a great idea. Tommy thanked her for the privilege of being ECW's champion the past 2 months. Just then, Shelton Benjamin came in as Dreamer was leaving. Shelton asked Tiffany if she had cleared him to be on the Abraham Washington Show. Tiffany said he had some concerns that Shelton wasn't entertaining enough. Gregory Helms came in, and Shelton asked if he needs to dress up like a superhero to be more entertaining. Helms said "I'm just a reporter". Shelton told Tiffany he'll show her entertaining, then brushed by Helms and left.

Goldust vs. Sheamus

Early on, Goldust was able to slide out of Sheamus' slam attempt to slam Sheamus himself. Sheamus backed up to the corner to recover then came back to start dominating. Sheamus delivered some hard strikes in the corner to knock Goldust down, then delivered 3 elbow drops for a pin attempt. Sheamus kept Goldust locked in an arm submission on the mat, with Goldust able to muster up some crowd support to get to his feet. Sheamus charged him in the corner with Goldust moving away. Goldust started punching away and was able to deliver a kick off the ropes to knock Sheamus down.

Goldust hit a powerslam for a 2 count as Sheamus came from off the ropes. He awaited Sheamus to stand for a finisher DDT, but Sheamus escaped it. Goldust went to the corner and ran back at Sheamus but received a boot to the face. Sheamus then picked up Goldust for a backbreaker across his knee, to get the winning pin.

Winner: Sheamus wins via pinfall over Goldust.

New ECW Champion Christian was shown proudly walking down a hall backstage carrying the ECW title belt. Matt Striker said Christian will be out next.

Striker and Matthews cut to highlight footage of Shaq as guest host of WWE Raw. Shaq made himself special guest enforcer for the main event tag team match which pitted Chris Jericho/Big Show against Cryme Tyme. During the match, Show got disqualified for getting in the ring and not leaving but beating on Cryme Tyme. He called for Shaq to come fight. The two went toe to toe and put each other in Chokehold moves. Cryme Tyme got back up and kicked Big Show, allowing Shaq to hit a running shoulder to knock Show down.

The new ECW Champ, Christian was announced and he came to the ring to display the new hardware. Christian talked about the second title reign feeling just a bit sweeter than the first. He began to mention Tommy Dreamer and how he made some comments about his weight or getting emotional before. Just then, Dreamer's music hit and Dreamer came to the ring. Dreamer congratulated Christian on the match at NOC and for being the new champ. Dreamer added that Tiffany granted him a rematch for next week, under Extreme Rules. Just then, Zack Ryder's music came on as Ryder came out from backstage, mic in hand. Ryder said enough talking about next week, he's going to beat Christian tonight, "Woo woo woo, you know it".

Christian vs. Zack Ryder

The match was joined in progress after commercials. Christian took control as things heated up, and was able to hit a Sunset Flip from the corner for a pin. Ryder escaped and went outside the ring. As Ryder got on the apron, Christian ran at him, with Ryder headbutting him. Christian managed to recover though and after Ryder tossed him outside the ring, Christian yanked Ryder's foot down to cause him to hit the apron face first. From there, Christian got back into the ring to jump off the apron onto Ryder. ECW went to commercial with both men down on the outside.

When ECW returned, Zack Ryder shoved Christian off the corner to the outside. Ryder screamed for the ref to count Christian out. The ref got up to 9 and Christian rushed back into the ring. Ryder started kicking away at him, then stretched his back out in a hold. Ryder had several near pinfalls and then used his legs to lock around Christian's waist. Christian reversed into a jackknife pin but was unsuccessful. Ryder landed a carefully done superplex from off the corner with Christian. Both men were down for the ref count, but Ryder slid over for a pin.

Ryder went for another superplex in the opposite corner, but Christian shoved him off and hit a flying bodypress. Christian stayed in control and hit a pair of missile dropkicks, but couldn't get the pin. Ryder got Christian in the electric chair off the corner and dropped him face first into the ropes, followed with a flying leg laureat. Again another failed pinfall. Christian was able to connect on his kick through the ropes and a forearm uppercut from the corner to knock Ryder down. As Ryder got up, Christian hit the Killswitch to finally take it.

ECW closed with Christian showing off his ECW belt in the ring to celebrate the win.

Winner: Christian wins via pinfall over Zack Ryder.

ECW Recap 06.30.09

ECW Recap from Fresno, CA:

ECW GM Tiffany was in the ring to start off the show, and welcomed fans to a new era of ECW. Tiffany said that ECW will continue to host the most talented young superstars in pro-wrestling via the Superstar Initiative, and that the show may have lost several key stars but it's gained some big stars as well from the 15 Superstar WWE trade. Tiffany said it was time to kick things off, and Shelton Benjamin arrived to the ring to start it off.

Yoshi Tatsu vs. Shelton Benjamin

Yoshi was part of the new superstar initiative arriving via Japan. Shelton got on the mic and insulted Yoshi with a mocking Japanese accent, telling him to stand back or he'd call Godzilla. As the bell rang, Shelton waltzed around and continued to bow to the crowd, mocking the new superstar. Shelton did a fake Sumo stance, then another bow to Yoshi. As Shelton came up from the bow, Yoshi connected on a serious kick to his head and KO'd Shelton to the mat for a winning pinfall. Yoshi celebrated and then bowed to his fallen opponent before leaving.

Winner: Yoshi Tatsu wins via pinfall over Shelton Benjamin.

Striker announced tonight's main event will be Tommy Dreamer and Christian teaming up to face Vladimir Kozlov and William Regal.

A new WWE personality, Abraham Washington was shown walking backstage and shaking hands with various people. Matthews said his new in-ring talk show is up next with the Bella Twins.

Abraham Washington came to the ring for his brand new ECW talk show. The fans started a "What?" chant as Washington discussed various WWE topics such as John Cena, The Miz, 12 Rounds and the 3 Stages of Hell. Washington then introduced The Bella Twins, ECW's newest acquisitions. During the show, a special corner ad displayed for ECW saying it will air next week on Thursday at 7PM EST. During his routine, Washington made several wise crack question jokes asking if the Bellas wore weaves. Washington also asked several questions to get the Twins mad at each other, such as who had the first kiss, and which Twin is the better athlete. Nikki and Brie started arguing as to who was the better twin when it came to keeping a boyfriend. As the Bellas started arguing, Washington said the show had to come to an end, and he tried to sit in between them on the couch. The Bellas both got up at once and left Washington in the ring.

Oliver John vs. Sheamus

Sheamus was yet another newcomer on the ECW program, and squared off against an amateur, Oliver John. Sheamus cut a promo on the mic about being an Irish Celtic warrior and how he was there to claim ECW as his own. Sheamus was able to knock down John with a hard clubbing forearm before he locked in a chinlock on him. As John stood up to the crowd's clapping, Sheamus threw him back down, then whipped him to the corner so he could ram into him. John finally fought back a bit, but was soon whipped to the ropes and came back into a hard boot by Sheamus followed by him slamming John down across his knee before the pin.

Winner: Sheamus wins via pinfall over Oliver John.

Backstage, Vladimir Kozlov was shown getting himself prepared for the main event. William Regal came walking up and told Kozlov to remember what they talked about. Regal said he doesn't want to be embarassed on his first night with ECW. Koloz said something in Russian then said "embarass you, I got it".

Zack Ryder was shown backstage in a locker room fixing his hair up and checking it in his sunglasses. A new wrestler walked up to him and was all buddy-buddy with Ryder, saying he's from So Cal and has been impressed with Ryder's matches. The man introduced himself as Tyler Rex and said he'd be facing Ryder on WWE Superstars this Thursday. Zack Ryder told the rookie he better go get prepared because he'll need all that he's got.

Matt Striker and Josh Matthews introduced the Raw Rebound. The highlights showed Batista serving as last night's guest host. The Animal announced a Night of Champions tournament featuring Miz vs. Cena and HHH vs. MVP. Cena and Triple H advanced to next week's final match. Also, Batista put Randy Orton into a 3 on 1 Gauntlet match as the main event, to get revenge on Orton for hurting him. The Gauntlet featured the 3 new ECW superstars who were traded to Raw, Evan Bourne, Jack Swagger and then Mark Henry. Orton beat Bourne by pinfall, then Swagger came down and was purposely counted out, out of respect for Orton. Mark Henry pretended he was going to do the same, then waved his finger no, smiling, and got back in the ring to fight. Henry took the fight to Orton and hit the World's Strongest Slam to win it.

Christian was shown walking backstage, then came up to Tommy Dreamer. Dreamer asked Christian if he's ready. Christian said they're in the same arena where he made his return to WWE & ECW. Christian also let Dreamer know he plans to regain the ECW title. Dreamer asked why Christian picked right before the tag match to tell him all this, then said let's go.

Christian & Tommy Dreamer vs. William Regal & Vladimir Kozlov

Early on Christian took it to Regal, before Regal tagged in Kozlov. Christian continued trying to fight and elude Kozlov but was eventually knocked down. Kozlov put Christian up on his shoulder to squeeze the life out of him. Christian eventually slid off and tagged in Dreamer. Dreamer punched away at Kozlov for a bit and hit a flying cross body on him, before yanking the top rope down for Kozlov to fall out. As Kozlov got back on the apron, Christian had tagged in and ran over to dropkick him off. ECW went to commercial with Regal outside defending Kozlov from a Christian jump off the corner.

ECW returned with Regal locking in a headlock on Dreamer in the ring. Dreamer stood up to fight but Regal kneed him and continued to unload on Dreamer. With the ref distracted by Regal, Kozlov got in a few cheap shots on Dreamer from the apron. Kozlov tagged in to hit repeated elbow drops on Dreamer. Dreamer finally fought back when Regal had tagged in again, and he was able to leap over to tag Christian. Christian came in with a flurry of punches on Regal to drop him to the mat. After a failed pinfall on Regal, Christian rushed over to shove Kozlov off the apron. Christian hit a Sunset Flip on Regal but couldn't score the pinfall. Regal jumped out of the ring and yanked Christian's arm against the top rope. Kozlov came back in to whip Christian corner to corner, focusing on the left arm of Christian. Regal and Kozlov took turns working on Christian's injury to keep him away from a tag. At one point, Regal and Christian collided head to head and both men hit the mat. Eventually they both were able to make tags.

Dreamer came in to face Kozlov, and kept coming off the ropes with clotheslines but couldn't bring Kozlov down. Dreamer finally connected on a clothesline off the corner to level him. Highlights were shown from last week's Raw where Batista was injured by Randy Orton and Legacy. This forced the new WWE Champ Batista to leave via ambulance. Orton demanded his title rematch and it was decided if Batista failed to show by the ref's 10 count, Orton would win the title by forfeit. Later in the night, Orton tried to win by forfeit, but HHH showed up to surprise him and dismantled Legacy and Orton. All of that set up tonight's Fatal Forway for the vacated WWE Title.

Jericho had a tremendous start to the match, tackling Jericho and going after him with move after move. During the match, a countdown timer was shown giving about 32 minutes until the WWE Title match. Mysterio continued to stay in control until he tried to jump on Jericho outside the ring. Jericho grabbed him and dropped him face first on the announce table as Raw went to a break.

When Raw returned, Jericho continually used a submission hold and tried to pull Mysterio's mask off again and again. As the match went on, Rey gained serious momentum and seemed ready to regain his title. Mysterio jumped off the ropes to land on Jericho's shoulders. Jericho started tugging at the mask again and Rey dropped to the mat on his feet to make sure the mask stayed on. Jericho used that brief moment to hit the Codebreaker and win it.

Cole and Lawler cut to Mr. McMahon backstage, asking who the new GM would be. Mr. McMahon announced that he would allow someone else to say who the new GM is, because he was "selling Monday Night Raw". Miz said Cena's the face of the past, but Miz is the future. Miz said he won't stop at winning the Battle Royal and WWE TItle, because he's going to be on magazines, t-shirts and more. Miz angrily asked why Hornswoggle and Goldust were still in the ring. Goldust told Miz he needs to be more creative with how he taunts Cena. Goldust mocked Miz a bit, causing Miz to go off, saying Goldust in 1999 was funny, but in 2009 Goldust is irrelevant.

Miz told Goldust he'd fight him right now but nobody would care. Miz said instead he was going to show the new owner Trump that he takes risks. Miz clocked Goldust with the mic and beat him down. ECW Recap 06.09.09

ECW Recap from Biloxi, MS:

ECW opened with highlights from Extreme Rules of the Triple Threat Hardcore Match between Christian, Jack Swagger and Tommy Dreamer. It was Dreamer's "all or nothing" shot at the ECW title, because if he lost he vowed to retire. Dreamer managed to win it despite the tough odds regaining the ECW title in two decades time.

ECW GM Tiffany was in the ring as ECW opened, with a table set up. Tiffany introduced Tommy Dreamer as new ECW Champion, and announced he earned himself a new contract as well. Dreamer came to the ring in street clothes carrying the ECW belt on his shoulder. Dreamer told the fans this was made possible by them. Dreamer thanked the fans from the bottom of his heart for their support and making this the biggest highlight of his career. Dreamer prepared to sign a brand new contract, but just then Christian came out from backstage carrying a box of tissues. Christian threw the tissues to Dreamer as a congratulations gift. Christian noted that Swagger interfered in their matches so many times that Extreme Rules was made into a Triple Threat, and Christian wasn't even pinned to lose the title. Christian said Dreamer owes him a rematch and Christian will regain the title.

As Dreamer got ready to sign his new contract again, Jack Swagger's music came on and Swagger appeared from backstage. Swagger began to say that the fans were here to see him not Dreamer or Christian. Tiffany prepared to discuss the contract extension of Dreamer, but Swagger cut her off saying he's not sure the contract is legit. Swagger told Christian they can take this to the Board of Executives and have Dreamer stripped of his title, or Dreamer can do the right thing and forfeit the belt. Dreamer said no way, and Christian said maybe Swagger has a point. Christian said he's going to do the right thing now, then turned and clocked Swagger, eventually knocking him out of the ring. Dreamer quickly signed his contract extension and then got on the corner turnbuckle to pose with the belt. Christian went over and got Dreamer on his shoulders fast then slammed him through the table.

Josh Matthews announced that those two, Dreamer and Christian will team up to face the Hart Dynasty tonight.

When ECW returned from commercial, Tiffany was talking to a WWE staff member backstage. A bunch of equipment had been knocked over and the man said some guy in green came rushing by but he didn't get a good luck at him. Tiffany spotted someone and told the man she'd be right back. Christian came walking through, and Tiffany confronted him about why he slammed Dreamer through a table. Christian said it was payback for what Dreamer did to him last week. Tiffany said because of that, Dreamer can't compete as Christian's tag partner. Tiffany told Christian it will still be a tag match but his partner will now be Jack Swagger.

Evan Bourne vs. Tony Atlas

Mark Henry accompanied Atlas to the ring, laughing about the fact Atlas was wearing a funny looking red white and blue wrestling suit. Striker said Atlas is wrestling due to the fact he cost Henry a match last week against Evan Bourne.

In tonight's match, the veteran Atlas managed to gain control and use power moves to slam Bourne around. As they were near the corner, Bourne got up fast and DDT'd Atlas to the mat, then went to the corner for the Shooting Starpress to win the match. Bourne's celebration was shortlived as Mark Henry entered the ring and clubbed him down from behind. Henry used the World's Strongest Slam to slam Bourne to the mat hard before leaving the ring.

Winner: Evan Bourne wins via pinfall over Tony Atlas.

Luke Hawx & Chris Lewie vs. Vladimir Kozlov
2 on 1 Handicap Match

Kozlov came to the ring smiling and raising his arms waving to the fans as he came to the ring, a strange change of character for the usually frowning all business superstar.

The Moscow Mauler made quick work of his opponents again. Kozlov started to headbutt one of his opponents hard in the chest before throwing him over his back. The man managed to tag his amateur partner who tried to jump off the ropes at Kozlov. Kozlov batted the man down from the air then used his one hand slam move to finish him. After winning, Kozlov started posing on the corners of the ring.

Winner: Vladimir Kozlov wins via pinfall over Chris Lewie & Luke Hawx.

Christian and Swagger were shown preparing backstage in the locker room. Swagger told Christian he knows he doesn't want to be his partner but that he's a winner, so he expects Christian to hold up his side of the partnership for tonight's match.

Last night's Raw incidents were revisited with Batista coming out to celebrate winning the WWE Title at Extreme Rules. Randy Orton came down the ramp to stare down the Animal, and Legacy snuck into the ring behind Batista. Batista was fighting everyone off for some time, but then was overpowered by all 3 men. Eventually they started to target his left arm, with Orton putting it into a chair and stomping on it. Orton eventually snapped Batista's arm back, and Batista had to be taken away by ambulance. GM Vickie Guerrero said that the rematch would go on and if Batista didn't show up for the main event, Orton would win by forfeit.

Later on Raw, Orton waited in the ring with Legacy as the ref started to count to 10 before calling it a forfeit. On the big screen the back of the ambulance was shown so the ref stopped counting. Suddenly, Triple H appeared on the screen with Sledgehammer in hand. The Game made his way from backstage all the way to the ring, taking out Rhodes and Dibiase with the hammer, then getting in the ring to beat up Orton. After fighting in the ring, outside it and into the crowd, things ended back in the ring with a Pedigree by Triple H of Orton onto a steel chair.

Josh Matthews and Matt Striker discussed the special 3 hour Raw next Monday which will include a Fatal Fourway for the WWE Title involving Randy Orton, Triple H, Big Show and John Cena. Also, Tommy Dreamer will defend the ECW title in a rematch against Christian.

Christian & Jack Swagger vs. The Hart Dynasty

Before the match, Natalya said Tyson Kidd and DH Smith will be facing two former ECW champions, but these guys will be future champions. Swagger tried to start the match off, but as the bell rang Christian slapped his back and went in instead. DH Smith came in and took control with his strength against Christian, ramming him down off the ropes with a shoulder block.

Kidd tagged in next and continued to work on Christian. Christian soon gained momentum and dropkicked Kidd from off the corner. Christian and Swagger got into a verbal discussion and Swagger shoved Christian right to Kidd. Kidd and Smith gained control as ECW went to commercial.

The Hart Dynasty stayed in control as they beat on Christian with Swagger watching from the other side. Christian tried to use a flying headbutt off the ropes but Kidd moved away and hit a snap suplex on Christian. Kidd went to the ropes and tried a Moonsault with Christian avoiding it. Christian staggered over towards Swagger as Kidd tagged in Smith. Swagger put his hand out to tag Christian and as he swiped at Christian's hand, Christian pulled his away then slapped Swagger in the face, knocking him off the apron. Christian gained momentum as he attempted to pin Smith several times from there. Christian missed on a headbutt off the corner again and Kidd tagged in.

Christian tried for the Killswitch several times but with no success. At one point Christian managed to flip over Tyson Kidd but he fell towards Swagger. Swagger grabbed Christian and yanked him down across the ropes. Christian was stunned and Kidd tagged in Smith. Smith grabbed Christian in a Bear Hug and Kidd ran off the ropes to clothesline him with the Hart Attack. Smith took the winning pin.

After the match, Swagger, Kidd and Smith all began to attack Christian. Suddenly, Tommy Dreamer came charging down the ramp with a Kendo Stick in hand. Dreamer got in the ring and began smashing the stick on Swagger's back until eventually he cleared the ring. ECW ended with Dreamer raising his arms with the kendo stick as Christian recovered in the corner.

Winners: Tyson Kidd & David Hart Smith win via pinfall over Christian and Jack Swagger.

Evan Bourne vs. Mark Henry

Henry was accompanied to the ring by Tony Atlas, looking angry after last week's loss to Bourne. Henry attacked from the start of the match, using grueling moves to punish Bourne. At one point Henry tried to splash off the ropes but Bourne quickly rolled away. Bourne went for a move jumping off the ropes at Henry, but Henry caught him from the air then threw him over his back. Bourne rolled out under the bottom rope and hit the floor. As the ref cautioned Henry in the ring, Bourne went to climb the corner. Tony Atlas got on the side apron and Bourne kicked him away as the ref saw. The ref called for the DQ, and an angry Mark Henry rushed at Bourne. Bourne pulled the top rope down and Henry spilled to the outside. Outside the ring Henry yelled at Atlas saying he doesn't need him.

Winner: Evan Bourne wins due to disqualification over Mark Henry when Tony Atlas interfered.

Highlights were shown from last week's main event when Jack Swagger and the Hart Dynasty defeated Christian and Jack Swagger, then brutally assaulted them afterwards. Tonight Christian will face Tyson Kidd one-on-one.

Dustin Carwile vs. Zack Ryder

Ryder came out wearing goggles and a half pants/half shorts wrestling get up. Ryder had a previously recorded promo saying how people spot him everywhere saying "there goes the Woo Woo Woo guy" but he's so much more than that.

Ryder attacked his amateur opponent, shoving him to the corner for a brutal beating, then threw him to the center of the ring so he could slap him around. Ryder had Carwile in a headlock and threw him to the corner, then charged at him before hitting a vicious dropkick from the corner. Ryder finished things with his finisher, which looked like a reverse style Playmaker.

Winner: Zack Ryder won via pinfall over Dustin Carwile.

Backstage, Hurricane Helms interviewed Finlay who had a black eye. Helms asked Finlay when he plans to return to action. Finlay said he's not sure exactly but he let Swagger know "a tooth for a tooth, and an eye for an eye".

Tommy Dreamer vs. Paul Burchill

Striker noted that this could be the farewell appearance of Tommy Dreamer. As Burchill and Katie Lea came down to the ring, Katie had a mic in hand and said this will be Dreamer's final match against her brother. Dreamer had an impressive armbar takedown early on and tried to keep Burchill down with an arm hold. Burchill got up and pulled under the ropes, then yanked Dreamer face first into them.

Burchill gained the advantage as he leveled Dreamer and began to stomp and punch away on him. Burchill used a headlock to keep Dreamer down. Dreamer fought back from his knees briefly, with Burchill punching him back down. Dreamer regained control and used several moves including a bulldog but couldnt score the pin. After a scoop slam and neckbreaker Dreamer went for a pin and Burchill's leg was under the rope. Dreamer finally hit his trademark DDT to win it.

Winner: Tommy Dreamer wins via pinfall over Paul Burchill.

When ECW returned, Dreamer was still in the ring with a mic in hand. Dreamer said he wanted the opportunity to thank all his fans and say goodbye. As Dreamer kept speaking he was interrupted by Jack Swagger who came out from backstage. Swagger started disrespecting Dreamer saying nobody cares about him anymore. Swagger said Dreamer made the stipulation to try to win the ECW title before retiring because it would make him relevant. Dreamer said he's putting his career and life on the line, and promises to be new ECW champ when he returns next week. Swagger laughed about it from the ramp before heading backstage.

Matt Striker and Josh Matthews ran down the complete list of matches for 2009 Extreme Rules.

Christian vs. Tyson Kidd

Kidd was accompanied by Natalya and David Hart Smith of the Hart Dynasty. As the match got underway, both men grappled with Christian forcing Kidd to the corner. Christian reversed Kidd's hold on him and brought him down to the mat. Christian was able to leapfrog Kidd as he threw him against the ropes, then came back with a spin kick to knock Kidd down.

Kidd was able to take control as he brought Christian down and hyperextended his arm. From there, Kidd was able to keep using move after move on Christian including smashing Christian's face to the turnbuckles across the ring. Christian responded by slamming Kidd face first as he jumped off the ropes. Christian hit a spinning uppercut off the ropes, but as Kidd composed himself on the apron, Christian came over. From there, the two men ended up on the outside where Kidd tackled Christian into the steel steps.

As ECW returned, Kidd managed to get Christian into a single leg Boston Crab hold. Christian struggled to kick out of it, but Kidd stayed in control. Christian countered into a small package pin but Kidd kicked out. Kidd continued working to wear Christian down. Christian finally managed to escape and gain momentum as he stood on Kidd using the ropes, and went to the corner to jump down and kick Kidd down. Christian waited to put the Killswitch on Kidd as he stood up, but Kidd shoved him to the corner. Christian punched Kidd away and jumped from the corner for a sunset flip. Kidd escaped it again, and the two continued to go back and forth with pinfall after pinfall. Kidd went for a springboard off the ropes with Christian catching him and turning it into a powerslam pin combo. Kidd again kicked out. In the corner, Christian kicked Kidd with his legs through the ropes move. Christian went to the corner for a move, just as Jack Swagger came walking down the ramp.

Kidd tossed Christian from the corner and then did a vicious leg drop on him, but couldn't score the winning pinfall. Swagger walked all the way down to the ring and got on the steel steps, but Dreamer came rushing down the ramp and pushed Swagger off. Swagger went flying into David Hart Smith at ringside, then Dreamer jumped off onto both men, crashing in a pile. Kidd dropkicked Dreamer through the ropes, then slid in under Christian. Kidd seemed to have things in control but as he tried to shove Christian to the corner, Christian turned it around and threw Kidd into the ringpost shoulder first. As Kidd staggered back, Christian hit him with the Killswitch to finally win.

After the bell, Dreamer got in the ring to applaud Christian on his win. Christian showed Dreamer the ECW belt and shook his hand. Dreamer wouldn't let go of his hand and then yanked Christian towards him to kick him in the stomach and DDT Christian to the mat. Dreamer smirked and shrugged then let out his typical roaring taunt before picking up the ECW title.

Winner: Christian wins via pinfall over Tyson Kidd.
