Smackdown Preview 07.10.09

Tonight's episode of Smackdown features three compelling matches. First off, there's a championship encounter between Intercontinental Champion Rey Mysterio and one half of the Unified tag team champs, Chris Jericho. These two superstars have feuded for months now, ever since Jericho arrived to Smackdown. Jericho was the man to defeat Mysterio for his IC title and even was unable to unmask the master of the 619. However, Rey Mysterio was able to once again regain his Intercontinental title when he beat Jericho at The Bash in a "Mask vs. Title match". At that event, Mysterio outsmarted Jericho by wearing two masks. Tonight the two foes will clash once again in the squared circle. Will Jericho be able to unmask Mysterio tonight? Or will Rey once again outsmart the brash and cocky Jericho?

Last week, the WWE Universe witnessed the return of Kane to wrestling action and he looked better than ever. In his first match back, Kane was able to take control and eventually beat Rey Mysterio by a chokeslam. The win was a big one for Kane's comeback, but Kane may have his hands full tonight. Not only does he have Jeff Hardy in the ring, but he may also have to worry about the Great Khali. Kane interfered in Khali's match against Dolph Ziggler at the Bash, allowing Ziggler to win the No DQ contest. Last week, Khali looked for revenge as he chased Kane into the crowd. Kane will attempt to go 2-0 since his return to action, but he'll have to beat the enigmatic Jeff Hardy to do so. Will Kane be able to defeat this title contender? Or will Jeff Hardy be able to rise to the challenge?

Speaking of rising to challenges, CM Punk will also have to do just that. On tonight's Smackdown, Punk with his injured eye and all will be taking on The Great Khali. Khali as previously mentioned has a grudge going on with Kane which could play a part in the match. Punk has been nursing (and milking) his claimed eye injury since The Bash, where he retained his title after disqualifying himself. Last week saw Punk take the loss for his team, after partner Jeff Hardy allowed him to get speared by Edge. The tensions are high between Hardy and Punk heading towards Night of Champions, but tonight will Punk be able to defeat the much bigger Khali? Will any other superstars get involved in the match?

Smackdown Preview 07.03.09

WWE's The Bash 2009 Pay-Per-View produced several new title holders during the night for the Smackdown brand. Less than a week after WWE Chairman Vince McMahon put Smackdown GM Teddy Long on probation, Long came up big at The Bash Pay-Per-View. During the event, the Rated-R Superstar Edge complained to Long about not being part of the World Heavyweight Title match with Jeff Hardy and CM Punk. Instead of inserting Edge into that match, he was made part of a different match, as Long coupled him with Chris Jericho and made the Unified Tag Titles match a Triple Threat match. The Colons and Rhodes/Dibiase fought it out with Edge & Jericho seeming to be unable to tag in much. At an opportune moment after Carlito hit Rhodes with a Backstabber, Edge slapped Rhodes on the back to tag in. Carlito missed it and Edge hit the Spear, winning the tag titles for he and Jericho. The duo made an appearance the next night on Raw to let the WWE Universe now that the two had united to do more damage than they were separately. Their first title defense will come on tonight's show, but will these two egotistical and brash superstars be able to continue their winning ways?

Edge and Jericho's first title defense comes against the team of CM Punk and Jeff Hardy, which may have even more trouble coexisting. Punk and Hardy faced off at The Bash over the World Heavyweight Championship. It's no secret that Jeff's been unhappy with Punk and the way in which he cashed in for the World Heavyweight Title at Extreme Rules. However, CM Punk let Jeff and the WWE Universe know that he's not there to make friends when he's wrestling, he's there to win titles. Punk also questioned why the fans would be upset over who he chose to cash in against, because it certainly wasn't that way when he cashed in on Edge a year ago. Despite all that, Jeff Hardy vowed to defeat Punk at The Bash and reclaim the title. During their match, Jeff injured Punk in the eye area, and Punk ended up kicking the referee, getting himself disqualified. That move kept the belt on Punk despite giving Hardy the victory. Jeff took out his frustration by beating up Punk up the ramp until he had to be pulled away. Now with these two superstars having to wrestle as a team for the tag titles, will they be able to get on the same page? Or will this be a textbook win for Edge and Jericho?

Two other titles changed hands to Smackdown stars at The Bash as well. In a "Mask vs. Title" match, Rey Mysterio was able to outsmart Chris Jericho. Jericho managed to rip Mysterio's mask off, thinking he won the match, but Rey came prepared as he was wearing a second mask underneath. Jericho was shocked by this and it allowed Mysterio to ultimately set up the win, regaining the Intercontinental Title. In another title match, it was the interference of Alicia Fox which helped Michelle McCool hit the Faithbreaker on Melina to win the WWE Women's Title. Who will be first to step up and challenge these new title holders? Will Melina go for her rematch on Smackdown? Also, what role will Smackdown's latest acquisitions from the Donald Trump 15 Superstar trade play on the show?

ECW Recap 06.30.09

ECW Recap from Fresno, CA:

ECW GM Tiffany was in the ring to start off the show, and welcomed fans to a new era of ECW. Tiffany said that ECW will continue to host the most talented young superstars in pro-wrestling via the Superstar Initiative, and that the show may have lost several key stars but it's gained some big stars as well from the 15 Superstar WWE trade. Tiffany said it was time to kick things off, and Shelton Benjamin arrived to the ring to start it off.

Yoshi Tatsu vs. Shelton Benjamin

Yoshi was part of the new superstar initiative arriving via Japan. Shelton got on the mic and insulted Yoshi with a mocking Japanese accent, telling him to stand back or he'd call Godzilla. As the bell rang, Shelton waltzed around and continued to bow to the crowd, mocking the new superstar. Shelton did a fake Sumo stance, then another bow to Yoshi. As Shelton came up from the bow, Yoshi connected on a serious kick to his head and KO'd Shelton to the mat for a winning pinfall. Yoshi celebrated and then bowed to his fallen opponent before leaving.

Winner: Yoshi Tatsu wins via pinfall over Shelton Benjamin.

Striker announced tonight's main event will be Tommy Dreamer and Christian teaming up to face Vladimir Kozlov and William Regal.

A new WWE personality, Abraham Washington was shown walking backstage and shaking hands with various people. Matthews said his new in-ring talk show is up next with the Bella Twins.

Abraham Washington came to the ring for his brand new ECW talk show. The fans started a "What?" chant as Washington discussed various WWE topics such as John Cena, The Miz, 12 Rounds and the 3 Stages of Hell. Washington then introduced The Bella Twins, ECW's newest acquisitions. During the show, a special corner ad displayed for ECW saying it will air next week on Thursday at 7PM EST. During his routine, Washington made several wise crack question jokes asking if the Bellas wore weaves. Washington also asked several questions to get the Twins mad at each other, such as who had the first kiss, and which Twin is the better athlete. Nikki and Brie started arguing as to who was the better twin when it came to keeping a boyfriend. As the Bellas started arguing, Washington said the show had to come to an end, and he tried to sit in between them on the couch. The Bellas both got up at once and left Washington in the ring.

Oliver John vs. Sheamus

Sheamus was yet another newcomer on the ECW program, and squared off against an amateur, Oliver John. Sheamus cut a promo on the mic about being an Irish Celtic warrior and how he was there to claim ECW as his own. Sheamus was able to knock down John with a hard clubbing forearm before he locked in a chinlock on him. As John stood up to the crowd's clapping, Sheamus threw him back down, then whipped him to the corner so he could ram into him. John finally fought back a bit, but was soon whipped to the ropes and came back into a hard boot by Sheamus followed by him slamming John down across his knee before the pin.

Winner: Sheamus wins via pinfall over Oliver John.

Backstage, Vladimir Kozlov was shown getting himself prepared for the main event. William Regal came walking up and told Kozlov to remember what they talked about. Regal said he doesn't want to be embarassed on his first night with ECW. Koloz said something in Russian then said "embarass you, I got it".

Zack Ryder was shown backstage in a locker room fixing his hair up and checking it in his sunglasses. A new wrestler walked up to him and was all buddy-buddy with Ryder, saying he's from So Cal and has been impressed with Ryder's matches. The man introduced himself as Tyler Rex and said he'd be facing Ryder on WWE Superstars this Thursday. Zack Ryder told the rookie he better go get prepared because he'll need all that he's got.

Matt Striker and Josh Matthews introduced the Raw Rebound. The highlights showed Batista serving as last night's guest host. The Animal announced a Night of Champions tournament featuring Miz vs. Cena and HHH vs. MVP. Cena and Triple H advanced to next week's final match. Also, Batista put Randy Orton into a 3 on 1 Gauntlet match as the main event, to get revenge on Orton for hurting him. The Gauntlet featured the 3 new ECW superstars who were traded to Raw, Evan Bourne, Jack Swagger and then Mark Henry. Orton beat Bourne by pinfall, then Swagger came down and was purposely counted out, out of respect for Orton. Mark Henry pretended he was going to do the same, then waved his finger no, smiling, and got back in the ring to fight. Henry took the fight to Orton and hit the World's Strongest Slam to win it.

Christian was shown walking backstage, then came up to Tommy Dreamer. Dreamer asked Christian if he's ready. Christian said they're in the same arena where he made his return to WWE & ECW. Christian also let Dreamer know he plans to regain the ECW title. Dreamer asked why Christian picked right before the tag match to tell him all this, then said let's go.

Christian & Tommy Dreamer vs. William Regal & Vladimir Kozlov

Early on Christian took it to Regal, before Regal tagged in Kozlov. Christian continued trying to fight and elude Kozlov but was eventually knocked down. Kozlov put Christian up on his shoulder to squeeze the life out of him. Christian eventually slid off and tagged in Dreamer. Dreamer punched away at Kozlov for a bit and hit a flying cross body on him, before yanking the top rope down for Kozlov to fall out. As Kozlov got back on the apron, Christian had tagged in and ran over to dropkick him off. ECW went to commercial with Regal outside defending Kozlov from a Christian jump off the corner.

ECW returned with Regal locking in a headlock on Dreamer in the ring. Dreamer stood up to fight but Regal kneed him and continued to unload on Dreamer. With the ref distracted by Regal, Kozlov got in a few cheap shots on Dreamer from the apron. Kozlov tagged in to hit repeated elbow drops on Dreamer. Dreamer finally fought back when Regal had tagged in again, and he was able to leap over to tag Christian. Christian came in with a flurry of punches on Regal to drop him to the mat. After a failed pinfall on Regal, Christian rushed over to shove Kozlov off the apron. Christian hit a Sunset Flip on Regal but couldn't score the pinfall. Regal jumped out of the ring and yanked Christian's arm against the top rope. Kozlov came back in to whip Christian corner to corner, focusing on the left arm of Christian. Regal and Kozlov took turns working on Christian's injury to keep him away from a tag. At one point, Regal and Christian collided head to head and both men hit the mat. Eventually they both were able to make tags.

Dreamer came in to face Kozlov, and kept coming off the ropes with clotheslines but couldn't bring Kozlov down. Dreamer finally connected on a clothesline off the corner to level him. Regal came into the ring to break up Dreamer's pin, and Christian took him to the outside. Dreamer set up for the DDT on Kozlov, but Kozlov countered to get out. Dreamer hit a neckbreaker but failed to score the pinfall. Meanwhile, Regal threw Christian into the steel steps and got back on the apron, then slapped Kozlov's back to tag in. Kozlov turned and glared at Regal, and Dreamer clotheslined Kozlov out of the ring. Regal was able to knock Dreamer down and prepared to kick him. As Regal backed up he got right near Kozlov who slapped his back to tag in. Kozlov came in, grabbed Dreamer and slammed him down hard for the pinfall win. Regal seemed upset at first over Kozlov getting the win, but then shook his hand and celebrated the win suspiciously with Kozlov in the ring.

Winners: William Regal & Vladimir Kozlov win via pinfall over Christian & Tommy Dreamer.

Raw Preview 06.29.09

The WWE's Bash PPV 2009 results produced several brand new champions last night. However, Triple H was not one of those lucky competitors. In the most grueling and brutal match of the evening, a 3 stages of Hell match, Randy Orton managed to prevail over The Game, thanks to some help from his Legacy stable mates. Triple H lost the first stage by his own rage, as he took the opportunity to bash a steel chair over Orton's skull earning a DQ. In round 2, Triple H continued the beating with the chair and eventually Pedigreed Orton outside the ring for a pin in a Falls Count Anywhere match. With the score evened at 1 win apiece, the match moved into its toughest and most violent stage, an intense Stretcher Match. Both men had their opponent on the stretcher at various moments, but managed to fight through. In the end, Orton had help as Cody Rhodes and Ted Dibiase emerged from backstage to attack The Game. Triple H tried to even the score by taking them down with his Sledgehammer, but Orton had a weapon of his own which he used to take Triple H out, rolling him across the finish line on a stretcher. With Orton's win he continues his latest reign as WWE Champion. Will HHH be able to appear on Raw, or will he be out of action due to injury? Who will be able to stop Orton and Legacy's reign of terror?

Unfortunately for Rhodes & Dibiase, they had to contend with a third team in their quest to gain the WWE Unified Tag team titles. Before they started their match against The Colons, Smackdown GM Teddy Long added in a team from his show. Edge and Chris Jericho were put into the Triple Threat match, making it even tougher for Rhodes and Dibiase to win. Despite their attempts to keep away from Edge and Jericho tagging them, the Smackdown team eventually tagged their way in. The match became a melee as all competitors got involved. Carlito hit a Backstabber on Rhodes, but Edge made a blind tag on Rhodes which Carlito didn't see. This resulted in Edge spearing Carlito down for the winning pinfall. With that, Legacy failed to capture gold. The loss angered the team visibly and it was seen backstage during a segment in which Ted Dibiase walked off on Orton. Orton had told them that it was more important now to make sure he remained champ. Rhodes seemed to be able to smooth things over with Dibiase, but will Dibiase stay happy, or will their be dissension in the ranks of Legacy?

And finally, John Cena got his hands on The Miz in a main event Pay-Per-View match. Miz failed to deliver in this relatively quick contest, as Cena hit him with everything he had. Miz had a brief bit of offense, but Cena was able to hit the Five Knuckle Shuffle, the Attitude Adjustment and then the STF to make Miz submit. With that, it would seem that Cena has finally silenced The Miz. However, the Miz doesn't seem like the type to stay quiet after the loss. What will be in store next for these 2 superstars? Will their feud continue past The Bash?

The Bash 2009 was held at Arco Arena in Sacramento, CA, on Sunday, June 28th, 2009. It featured a full slate of championship matches including CM Punk defending the World Heavyweight Title against Jeff Hardy, Chris Jericho defending the Intercontinental title against Rey Mysterio and Randy Orton doing battle with HHH over the WWE Title in a "3 Stages of Hell" match. It also featured John Cena against The Miz, and the WWE Divas from Smackdown, Melina and Michelle McCool, battling over the WWE Women's Championship.

Here's the final results from WWE's The Bash 2009:

Christian vs. Finlay vs. Jack Swagger vs. Mark Henry vs. Tommy Dreamer
ECW Championship Scramble

The Scramble opened with the two most recent former ECW champs, Christian versus Jack Swagger. Neither man scored a pinfall until Finlay came in the next 2 minute interval. After fighting outside the ring with Christian and Swagger, Finlay tossed Swagger into the ring. As Finlay came in, Swagger raked his eyes and rolled Finlay up for a pin to become ECW Champ. Just moments later, Finlay was able to hit the Celtic Cross on Swagger to become current champ. Dreamer had entered into the Scramble next, followed by Mark Henry. Henry was able to hit the World's Strongest Slam on Dreamer to become champ. At one point, Mark Henry looked to be climbing the corner to jump out of the ring at Christian and Dreamer. Swagger attacked Henry in the corner from behind to Vader bomb him for a pin. Swagger became current champ.

As the match became more furious, Tommy Dreamer broke up Christian's pin attempt on Swagger, then DDT'd Christian for a pinfall to become current champ. With Dreamer as the champ and time running out, all 4 of his opponents tried to pin him but had no success.

Winner: Tommy Dreamer wins the Championship Scramble to retain the ECW Championship.

Rey Mysterio vs. Chris Jericho
Mask vs. IC Title Match

In this match it was Jericho's title or Mysterio's mask on the line, depending on who won. Both men gave a tough fight from the get go. Jericho continually tried to rip the mask off in the start. At one point, Jericho tried to tackle Rey in the corner, but Rey avoided it and Jericho hit the ringpost shoulder-first. Mysterio was able to land a moonsault on Jericho, but Jericho was able to get Rey into Walls of Jericho. Rey eventually got to the ropes to break the hold. Later still in the match, Mysterio is able to DDT Jericho but only got a 2 count. Jericho hit the Codebreaker on Rey, but Mysterio somehow kicked out at 2 as well. Jericho placed Rey up on the corner turnbuckle and was going to try for a Hurricanrana, but Rey avoided the attempt and prepared for 619. Mysterio went for the West Coast Pop, but Jericho countered and put him into Walls of Jericho again. Mysterio escaped under Jericho and the two men exchanged Sunset flip pinfall attempts. Jericho yanked off Mysterio's mask, but Rey had a second mask on. Jericho was surprised and this allowed Mysterio to kick him to the ropes, hit the 619 and then a splash off the top ropes for the winning pin!

Winner: Rey Mysterio wins via pinfall over Chris Jericho to become the new Intercontinental Champion.

The Great Khali vs. Dolph Ziggler
No DQ Match

The much larger Khali continually manhandled Ziggler in the early part of the match. At one point, he went for a boot on Ziggler and got caught in the ropes, allowing Ziggler to target Khali's leg. Ziggler tried to use a steel chair, but Khali punched it from his hands. Ziggler had a face lock on Khali, but Khali slammed him back to escape it. With Khali in control, suddenly Kane's theme music came on, and the Big Red Machine came to the ring to attack Great Khali with a chair. Kane continued the bashing on Khali with a chair before leaving the ring. Ziggler was able to steal a pinfall victory thanks to Kane's chair shots on Khali.

Winner: Dolph Ziggler wins via pinfall over The Great Khali.

Cody Rhodes & Ted Dibiase vs. The Colons vs. Edge & Chris Jericho
Unified Tag Title Match

Originally scheduled as the Colons vs. Legacy, Smackdown GM Theodore Long arrived out to the ramp and announced that it would be a Triple Threat match with Edge & Chris Jericho also competing!

Edge and Jericho tried to tag themselves in after being dumped out by Legacy and the Colons early on. Eventually Edge was able to tag himself in and went for a Spear on Primo. Primo avoided it and Ted Dibiase was able to hit Edge for a tag in. Dibiase hit several elbow drops and scored a near pinfall on Primo before Rhodes tagged in for the doubleteaming efforts. Cody continued to attack Primo with knee drops and stomps to his body.

The final moments of this match were an all-out frenzy with bodies flying everywhere. Edge and Jericho tried desperately to make a tag into the match. At one point, Carlito hit the Backstabber on Cody Rhodes, but Edge was able to hit Rhodes for the tag. As Carlito got up, he was quickly speared down by Edge and pinned, giving Jericho and Edge the titles.

Winners: Edge and Chris Jericho win via pinfall over The Colons to win the WWE Unified Tag Team Championships.

Michelle McCool vs. Melina
WWE Womens Championship

Alicia Fox joined Michelle McCool at ringside for this match. Early on, Michelle McCool attacked and went after Melina's leg, stretching it against the ringpost at one point. Michelle was able to stretch Melina's leg so that her foot reached her head. McCool whipped Melina to the corner but ended up running into a double boot. McCool went for her finisher but Melina countered. The fight went to the corner turnbuckle with Melina able to knock McCool away. Melina went for the pin with A-Fox putting Michelle's leg on the ropes. Melina angrily kicked Alicia away sending her crashing to the floor, and Michelle took advantage by grabbing Melina and hitting the Faithbreaker.

Winner: Michelle McCool wins via pinfall over Melina to become the new WWE Womens Champion.

Jeff Hardy vs. CM Punk
World Heavyweight Match

Early in this match Punk and Hardy exchanged headlocks, before each tried to pull off their finisher. After Jeff countered GTS into a rollup pin, later Punk fought out of Hardy's Twist of Fate attempt. The fight went to the outside where Punk dropped Jeff into the crowd barricade, and Jeff barely made it back into the ring before 9. Punk was able to lock in a Figure Four Leglock on Jeff in the ring, with Jeff able to crawl to the ropes. Punk tried for a legdrop off the corner, with Hardy rolling away to avoid it. Jeff began to gain some momentum after hitting Whisper in the Wind and a series of moves on the champ. Jeff went to the top turnbuckle with Punk down, but Punk rolled to the outside. Jeff turned it into a jumping clothesline to take out Punk outside the ring. The fight continued in the ring where Punk regained control and hit his running knee in Jeff's face followed by the bulldog from the corner. Jeff was able to counter a Punk move and hit Twist of Fate, then missed on a Swanton Bomb attempt. Punk got Hardy up in the GTS, but Jeff fought out and countered, hitting Twist of Fate, followed by the Swanton. Jeff scored what seemed to be a winning pinfall.

The referee stops Jeff's victory celebration saying Punk's leg was under the ropes during his pin, so the match must restart. Jeff tries to argue it but the match restarts. Jeff went for another Twist of Fate, but misses so Punk went for GTS and also couldn't get it. Hardy ended up hitting Punk in his eye, causing Punk to kick the ref getting himself disqualified.

Winner: Jeff Hardy wins due to disqualification of CM Punk. CM Punk retains the World Heavyweight Championship.

John Cena vs. The Miz

Cena easily showed himself to be the superior wrestler against the constantly trash-talking Miz. In this match early on, Cena took Miz to the mat repeatedly. An angry Miz eventually escaped the ring and Cena ran after him. Back in the ring, Miz took control briefly as he clotheslined Cena in the corner, then jumped off the ropes to hit Cena in the head. Miz failed to get the pinfall at this point. Cena began to make his comeback, fighting back with intensity. After a shoulder block off the ropes and a belly-to-belly suplex, Cena hit the Five Knuckle Shuffle and The Attitude Adjustment followed by the STF to make Miz tap out.

Winner: John Cena wins via submission over The Miz.

Triple H vs. Randy Orton
3 Stages of Hell
WWE Title Match

The first stage of this hellish contest was a standard wrestling match. The two men fought in the ring, using the corner and ringpost to their advantage. Orton also wisely targeted HHH's hurt leg but repeatedly stomping on him and dropping his weight on The Game's knee. HHH was able to block an RKO attempt, and the fight went to the outside of the ring. Orton got into the ring then kicked HHH off the apron. As Orton tried to pull HHH into the ring, Triple H bashed a steel chair over Orton and was disqualified.

Stage 1 winner - Randy Orton due to DQ of Triple H (1-0 Orton)

With Orton still in pain from the first stage of this match, HHH got into the ring and repeatedly bashed the steel chair on Orton. Orton rolled to the outside with HHH following him out. Triple H hit the Pedigree on Orton on the concrete and since it was a Falls Count Anywhere match, HHH pinned outside the ring.

Stage 2 winner - Triple H wins via pinfall over Randy Orton (1-1 tie)

The final stage of Hell in this contest was a Stretcher Match. As it kicked off, HHH tried to wheel Orton up the ramp on a stretcher immediately. Orton recovered to kick the stretcher into HHH's leg and stay alive in the match. The two fought down the ramp and near the crowd barrier, with Orton using the barricade as a weapon to smash HHH with. Orton eventually put HHH on the stretcher but Triple H escaped it to continue. After sending HHH into the steel steps, Orton brought one of them into the ring to try to hit HHH with. HHH countered and tripped Orton so he fell face first into them, then used the steps to ram Orton before moving him onto the stretcher. As HHH pushed it up the ramp, Orton started fighting back. The two wrestlers fought on the stretcher as it rolled down the ramp, where Orton eventually DDT'd Triple H down on the ramp.

From there, Orton tried for the Punt Kick, but missed. HHH went for the Pedigree, with Orton countering and backdropping HHH onto the stretcher. Orton rolled the stretcher up the ramp but right before the top, HHH got off. Orton tried for the RKO, with HHH pushing him away and then connecting on the Pedigree. As HHH put Orton on the stretcher again, Cody Rhodes rushed out to prevent him from crossing the line. HHH took Rhodes down, but as he went back to the stretcher for Orton, Ted Dibiase came out to attack. Rhodes & Dibiase attacked HHH putting him on the stretcher with HHH fighting back. Eventually, Triple H grabbed his Sledgehammer to take Dibiase and Rhodes down. Orton had some sort of weapon of his own which he attacked HHH with from behind, then placed HHH on a stretcher to wheel him across the finish line.

Stage 3 winner - Randy Orton wins the Stretcher Match. (2-1 Orton wins)

Winner: Randy Orton wins the 3 stages of Hell match 2-1 over Triple H to retain the WWE Championship.

The Bash 2009 PPV Predictions

At The Bash Pay-Per-View, all but 2 of the prestigious WWE Championships are being defended (United States, Divas Championship). So that makes for one busy PPV card, and a night of potential new champions. With that said, I see 1 or 2 possible title changes here, as several of the current champs are just within the first month of their title reigns. We've got some more "extreme rules" type situations at this PPV too, complete with a No DQ match, Championship Scramble and the "3 Stage of Hell" match implemented by Vince McMahon. Let's take a look at the match-by-match analysis and predictions for The Bash 2009.

Michelle McCool vs. Melina

Michelle has promised to be the first diva ever to have won the Divas title and Womens title. While that's quite an honor, let's hope that someone over on Raw (hint hint: Mickie James or Beth Phoenix), accomplishes that first. Michelle's a great competitor, but it's hard to see her defeating Melina just yet. Unless Alicia Fox gets involved and costs Melina the match, I see Melina retaining her Womens Title at the Bash.

Prediction: Melina wins via pinfall to retain her title.

Cody Rhodes & Ted Dibiase vs. The Colons

This almost seems like a no brainer pick, because with Orton as WWE Champ, it will further strengthen the Legacy concept for these two guys to win as well. So most likely they will, making this a lock for a title change at the Pay-Per-View. I'll say Rhodes and Dibiase cheat somehow to win, costing the Colons their titles. The Colons will invoke their rematches on Raw and continue the feud a little longer, while Legacy becomes even more cocky owning all the gold on Raw (except the US Title).

Prediction: Rhodes & Dibiase become new unified tag team champions.

The Great Khali vs. Dolph Ziggler
No DQ Match

This one seems to favor Dolph Ziggler going over as a heel, because it's a No DQ. Although Khali has Singh at ringside, Ziggler should be able to come up with a clever way to cheat and pull off a victory against the much bigger opponent. Ziggler really should be in either the US or Intercontinental title picture right about now, so look for this to propel him towards bigger things (than Khali).

Prediction: Dolph Ziggler finds a way to beat Great Khali.

Rey Mysterio vs. Chris Jericho
Mask vs. Title Match

Jericho's held the IC title just for a few weeks now (although that's never an indication of anything in WWE). I'm not quite sure what purpose it serves for Jericho to continually unmask Mysterio. Possibly it's the novelty factor of the fans seeing Rey without his mask, but Jericho's also built up how Mysterio "hides" behind his mask. I think Jericho's going to retain the title here, because it would be strange for Jericho to have such a short Intercontinental title run, although it's not unlikely these days. Mysterio will be unmasked again, giving Jericho more to brag about on the mic.

Prediction: Chris Jericho retains the title, Mysterio is unmasked again.

ECW Championship Scramble

In this match we've got the current champ Tommy Dreamer defending against 3 former ECW Champs: Christian, Mark Henry, Jack Swagger and also Finlay. Some will argue that Finlay is a former champ too since he won in another Scramble. So in this match we'll see the ECW title exchanged and hopefully some good wrestling spots where Jack Swagger, Dreamer, Christian and Finlay are involved. Sorry, Mark Henry. I'd like to say that Dreamer should have a long title run, but I really feel Jack Swagger's going to regain the title again at Dreamer's expense. Dreamer's "win title or retire" story seemed to be done to draw attention to the face this ECW legend is bringing his career to its close sooner rather than later. Expect Swagger to be the man to "retire" Dreamer, or at least make him contemplate it again. As for now, Dreamer holds onto the belt by outlasting his competitors in this match so he can have some cred.

Prediction: Tommy Dreamer outlasts his four opponents to get the final pin and hold the ECW Title.

John Cena vs. The Miz

After seeing the Miz' actions on Raw last week, it looked as if Miz was getting a push to be the top heel on Raw behind Randy Orton. As I mentioned before, it almost seems as if Miz has been interchanged with Chris Jericho, which is saying quite a bit for Miz and the confidence WWE must have in him. Giving him a Pay-Per-View main event match against a guy like Cena is also a vote of confidence, however him winning doesn't seem to be the best scenario. A win really buries all momentum that John Cena has had in beating Big Show at several PPV's. Let's hope that the Cena-Show feud is over for now, so we don't see Big Show interfere in this one. If that happens I'll say Cena wins clean (tough pick), or there's a DQ by Miz. Some have speculated that Miz wins it and impresses Maryse, but I think a Cena win puts him closer towards contending for the WWE Title yet again.

Prediction: John Cena wins by pinfall or a Miz DQ.

Jeff Hardy vs. CM Punk
World Heavyweight Match

CM Punk is playing the role perfectly as a guy who's not quite a heel, but not quite a face either. He's simply doing his job, winning matches and has held the World Heavyweight Title longer than before. His latest casualty in his resume-building is Jeff Hardy, a guy who hasn't quite had the easiest road in his WWE career and has his share of outside pro-wrestling problems. Yet in their current roles, the fans are fully behind underdog Hardy and not so in favor of CM Punk. It works well though and in this match the fans will have more reason to dislike Punk. He's either going to get DQ'd or find some tricky way to win just like Edge always has. Punk remains champ as this feud is just getting underway. These guys can give us some unique extreme matches and maybe we're in store for a Ladder Match at Summerslam (since Punk took the title from Hardy after one).

Prediction: CM Punk finds yet another opportunity to win a title contest.

Triple H vs. Randy Orton
3 Stages of Hell
WWE Title Match

The problem with making a prediction here is the fact that this Triple H and Randy Orton feud has just gone on too long. So picking Orton to win most likely means he sends HHH out via stretcher, which seems to have been done several times in the last few months now. The feud is getting old and overdone, yet this could make for an exciting match. I really think John Cena will be the guy to take the WWE Title off Orton, so this match, and a win will keep Orton as a solid heel for Cena to overthrow. It's what Cena's fans want. Triple H will get another title reign, that's inevitable as he continues to add to his number of reigns so he can retire as close to or better than (in terms of reigns) Ric Flair. Orton wins the stretcher match somehow, because HHH will take a little more time off, and Cena will enter the title picture soon. Of course I may be completely wrong. WWE has little options for its title contenders beyond the four guys you saw in the Fatal Fourway (Show, Cena, HHH, Orton) Let's hope we're not in store for more Orton-HHH though...Orton-Cena or even Cena-HHH will be fresher feuds at this stage...

Prediction: Randy Orton sends HHH out via stretcher to continue his latest WWE Title reign.

Smackdown Recap 06.26.09

Smackdown Recap from Milwaukee, WI:

WWE Chairman Vince McMahon came out to open Smackdown. Vince had Smackdown GM Teddy Long come to the ring. Vince asked Teddy to inform him and the fans how he's going to entertain them all tonight with Smackdown. Teddy announced tonight's main event tag team match with Chris Jericho and Edge facing Rey Mysterio and Jeff Hardy. The fans went wild. Vince said it might be good enough for the fans, but it's not good enough for him. Teddy said it won't be a typical match, because it will be a "Rage in the Cage" match with a special guest referee, World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk. Vince said rather than firing him on the spot tonight, he's putting Teddy on probation just like every fan's boss has done to them at one point or another. Teddy was in shock as Mr. McMahon made the announcement.

R-Truth vs. Shelton Benjamin

Truth came out with his "What's up?" rap and chant prior to the match. Shelton made fun of Truth before getting the match started saying he never got a real education yet Shelton went to college. Shelton said the truth is R-Truth is an underachiever who he's going to remove from WWE and his life. Truth took exception as he started to attack Benjamin from the start. Shelton eventually recovered after knocking Truth to the outside of the ring. After a commercial, Shelton remained in control in the ring for some time as he drove a knee into Truth's back.

Later on, despite Shelton slamming Truth back into a pinfall, R-Truth escaped. After catching Shelton's foot on a kick attempt, Truth made his comeback. Truth eventually hit his finisher the "Lie Detector" to knock Shelton out on the mat for the pinfall victory.

Winner: R-Truth wins via pinfall over Shelton Benjamin.

A backstage segment was shown featuring Vince McMahon, GM Teddy Long & Rey Mysterio.

John Morrison vs. CM Punk was announced as a match for later during Smackdown.

Michelle McCool & Alicia Fox vs. Melina & Gail Kim

Michelle McCool and Alicia Fox worked on Melina early on, with Michelle choking Melina against the ropes. A-Fox came in to continue the punishment as she kept Melina down in various submission holds. Gail Kim eventually tagged in to go up against Alicia. Gail was able to avoid Alicia in the corner using her boot to Alicia's face, then jumped off the corner ropes for a flying bodypress. Gail continued to stay in control and was about to set up Alicia in a finishing move, but Alicia made a tag to Michelle without Gail seeing it. Michelle rushed in and grabbed Gail from behind to hit her with the Faithbreaker to win it.

Winners: Michelle McCool & Alicia Fox win via pinfall over Gail Kim & Melina.

A backstage segment featuring Vince McMahon & CM Punk was shown.

Dolph Ziggler versus The Great Khali in a no-disqualification match was announced for The Bash this Sunday.

John Morrison vs. CM Punk

Last week John Morrison fought valiantly but came up short against former World Heavyweight champ Edge. Tonight, Morrison got to tangle with current champ CM Punk in a non-title bout. The match included Punk and Morrison trading momentum, with Morrison flipping onto Punk outside the ring at one point. Back in the ring, Morrison hit a high double kick to take Punk to the mat. CM Punk had John Morrison sruggling in a Sharpshooter late in the match. Morrison managed to grab the bottom rope and break the hold, and eventually countered Punk to roll him into a surprise pinfall.

After an impressive non-title victory by Morrison, Punk offered a handshake. The two men shook, but Punk quickly grabbed Morrison and hoisted him onto his shoulders then hit the GTS to make a statement prior to the Bash.

Winner: John Morrison wins via pinfall over CM Punk.

Jeff Hardy & Rey Mysterio vs. Edge & Chris Jericho
Steel Cage Match

To win the "Rage in a Cage" the team could win by pin, submission or escaping the steel cage. Late in the match, Edge threw Rey into the corner where Jericho was. Rey Mysterio hit an impressive Hurricanrana on Jericho off the corner, followed by a pinfall attempt. Punk counted it but Jericho kicked out before 3. Jericho responded to take control of Rey as he catapulted him face first into the cage wall, then eventually tagged Edge in. Punk warned Edge about choking Mysterio against the ropes. The heels kept Rey away from tagging Hardy in. Jericho sat Mysterio on the corner then climbed up and tried to pull his mask off. Mysterio shoved Jericho off then tried to leap off at him, but Jericho jumped up and kicked him down in the air.

Jericho grabbed Rey's leg to prevent him from the tag, but Rey flipped back to kick Jericho away. Eventually, Jericho made the tag to Edge, but he stopped Rey short from tagging out. Edge put Rey on one shoulder to battering ram his head into the cage wall. Rey stopped Edge from a second one and DDT'd him. Jericho tagged in yet again to start taunting Rey about his mask. At one point, Jericho flung Rey towards the wall, so Rey jumped up and started to make a climb to escape. Jericho jumped up to pull him back down, so Rey jumped off to dropkick Jericho. Finally Rey tagged in Hardy, as Jericho tagged Edge in. Hardy had serious momentum as he threw Edge into the cage walls then did a double groin leg drop.

Punk counted a near pinfall by Hardy on Edge. Hardy avoided a Spear attempt by Edge by leapfrogging Edge, but this made Edge spear Punk down. Jeff hit Whisper in the Wind, but Punk was still reeling from the Spear. Punk counted 2, and Hardy confronted him. Punk said it was only 2 and that he was speared. All 4 men got involved as Punk recovered in the corner. With Rey and Jericho out of the picture Jeff did a face first move to drive Edge to the mat. He turned to face Punk in the corner, and Edge was back up to quickly Spear Jeff down.

Jericho and Edge headed up the ramp after the match. Jeff was down inside the ring in the cage still holding his midsection as Punk grabbed a mic outside the ring. Punk told the fans to give his #1 Contender for Sunday a round of applause as Punk held up his Championship belt.

Winners: Edge & Chris Jericho win via pinfall over Jeff Hardy & Rey Mysterio.

Vince McMahon and Teddy Long were shown watching Smackdown on a flat screen backstage. Vince told Teddy it was a great match to lead into The Bash, but he expects Teddy to perform as if his job depended on it. Smackdown ended with Punk still holding up his belt and Jeff inside the cage looking out at him.

The Bash 2009 PPV Matches Card

WWE's The Bash 2009 Pay-Per-View will be held on Sunday, June 28, 2009 at the ARCO Arena in Sacramento, California. Currently there's a full slate of matches scheduled, with at least 6 of the WWE Titles being contended in some interesting scenarios. ECW recently added a Championship Scramble match, one night after Raw announced the WWE Title will be decided in a "3 Stages of Hell Match". Here's a look at each of the matches for The Bash, as well as the set up for the various feuds.

2009 The Bash PPV Matches

Michelle McCool vs. Melina
WWE Womens Title match

Ever since being drafted to Smackdown, Melina's had a target on her back, and the vicious Michelle McCool has had her eye on the champ. In several weeks time, Michelle has attacked Melina, with the aid of Alicia Fox (A-Fox). Most recently, Melina beat A-Fox on Smackdown, only to receive an ambush attack at the hands of McCool afterwards. McCool announced on the mic she'll beat Melina at the Bash to become first ever to have held both the Divas Championship and Womens Championship. Will Michelle make this a reality? Or will the feisty Melina battle back and defend the blond beauty at The Bash?

Rey Mysterio vs. Chris Jericho
Mask vs. Intercontinental Title Match

At Extreme Rules Chris Jericho accomplished what he said he would. After ripping the Lucha Libre mask off Mysterio's face, Jericho hit the Codebreaker and then won the Intercontinental Title. Jericho continued to insult Mysterio after the victory, most recently carrying the mask to the ring. With Jericho wrestling Jeff Hardy, three Mysterio fans were shown seated at ringside, with one jumping the barrier to come attack Jericho. It was Mysterio, and later in the night he challenged Jericho to a "Mask vs. Title" match. If Jericho wins, Mysterio will have to remove his mask. If Mysterio wins, he regains the Intercontinental Title. Which superstar will prevail in this contest?

The Miz was brought over to Raw as one of the first round draft picks in 2009, and after slamming his once-partner, John Morrison to the mat, began to make statements. Week after week, Miz has come into the ring and insulted Cena as well as his fans. Miz also claims he's held all sorts of victories over Cena, but the WWE Universe has yet to see The Miz wrestle Cena one on one. At the Bash, it will be "put up or shut up" as Miz must come face-to-face with the man he's been dissing all this time. Will Miz finally be able to claim a true victory over Cena? Or will Cena show Miz he can really wrestle?

Unified Tag Team Title Match

The Colons have held both tag team titles since defeating John Morrison and The Miz for their titles months ago. Since then, The Colons have continued to shine as new additions on WWE Raw, but there's one tag team looking to take what they have. Cody Rhodes and Ted Dibiase would like to stand side-by-side with their mentor, Randy Orton, as they hold the Unified Tag Titles up with his WWE Title. Will these Legacy stars make good on their goal at The Bash?

ECW Championship Scramble

A very recent edition to the 2009 The Bash lineup is the Championship Scramble match for the ECW Title. Tommy Dreamer currently holds the title, but he'll have 4 other competitors gunning for him. In this match, there's two men starting the match, with another man added every 2 minutes. The total alloted time is 20 minutes for the match. Pinfalls will produce a champ for the time being, but it's whoever has had the last pinfall when the 20 minutes ends that becomes champion! The match includes all former champs looking to regain the title. Will Tommy Dreamer hold onto his title? Or will another ECW star take home the belt?

World Heavyweight Title

CM Punk made good on cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase at Extreme Rules. He did so just moments after Jeff Hardy had defeated Edge in a Ladder Match for the World Heavyweight Title. Punk used 2 Go-To-Sleeps to drop Hardy to the mat for a winning pinfall. Since the win, Hardy has challenged Punk's choice of when to cash in. Punk has maintained his position that he's not in the ring to make friends, but to win matches and titles. Punk seems to be taking the opportunities to win however he can, and Jeff claims Punk cashed in on the wrong guy. Who will prevail in this intense battle at The Bash?

Triple H vs. Randy Orton
3 Stages of Hell Match for WWE Title

WWE fans are no strangers to the intense rivalry that has continued between Randy Orton and Triple H. For months, Orton has terrorized the McMahon family including Triple H's wife, Stephanie McMahon. He sidelined Vince McMahon, Shane McMahon, Stephanie, Triple H, Ric Flair, and recently Batista, all with Punt Kicks. Orton also defeated HHH for the WWE Title at a recent PPV, then was beat by Batista for the belt. Just one night later, Orton and Legacy gave Batista a severe beatdown and injured his arm to the point Batista had to forfeit the WWE Title. Orton was ready to claim the title by default, but the surprise return of The Game blocked his efforts for one week. The next week, Orton won a Fatal Fourway and reclaimed the gold. And one week after that, Orton and HHH were forced to compete in a Last Man Standing match. It was a draw, with HHH barely able to stand after Orton had repeatedly beat on his leg. With the title still around Orton's waist, an angry Vince McMahon told Orton that he'd be defending the title in a "3 Stages of Hell Match" at The Bash. In plain text it looks simple: Fall 1 - Regular Match, Fall 2 - Falls Count Anywhere, Fall 3 - Stretcher Match As you can see this match will be brutal to the very end, with one man leaving by stretcher and the other leaving with the WWE title. Which wrestler will be the champion and will this feud end at The Bash?

Character Analysis: Miz, Goldust, Punk

Three of the WWE Superstars really came into the spotlight on this past week's 3-for-All on Monday Night Raw. Two of the wrestlers can be considered on the undercard while the third has definitely moved into the upper eschelon. We're talking about Raw's The Miz & Goldust, as well as World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk from Smackdown.

The Miz and Goldust (along with Hornswoggle) had a lengthy yet entertaining segment in the ring during Raw's 3-for-All. While I'll be the first to admit it was total filler, it served its purpose well. Miz' character on Raw has been one of the smartest ideas creative has come up with in a while because he says a lot of things that many fans might be thinking. For example, he's continually insulted John Cena as being a superstar loved mainly by kids and soccer moms. He's dissed Cena's acting and continues to pretend he's actually beaten Cena in the ring. In all seriousness, Miz has lucked out because he's always had Big Show intervene in the match to somehow get out of really wrestling Cena. That time will come. On Raw, Miz began to insult Goldust, calling him irrelevant, which is similar to what Jericho had been doing with the Hall of Famers. Only this time, Miz is talking about guys who are part of WWE but don't really do much more beyond comic relief and giving other wrestlers victories.

The other guy opposite Miz on Raw was Goldust and he's truly been lost in the mix on the show. It's also unfortunate that they decided to pair him with Hornswoggle, in some sort of "freak show" type move. While I'll admit the Hornswoggle novelty was fun at first, it gets tired after repeated kicks to wrestler's legs, Tadpole Splashes off the ropes to win matches and squirt gun shots to the face. It's strange that he was moved from Finlay but then again maybe it was Finlay's request so he could have a more serious solo role on ECW.

All that said, Miz and Goldust have the makings of one great feud on WWE Raw. The two played off each other well in their exchange, and if the creative team can come up with some "creative matches", they may be able to steal some of the Raw comedy relief from Santino Marella. Goldust's stuttering as well as Miz' cocky insults directed towards the WWE superstars are something fresh which pokes fun at the product and entertains.

And then there's CM Punk. Just about this time last year, people were questioning this guy as a serious champion. He barely had the World Heavyweight Title after cashing in on a beaten-up Edge, when he was attacked by Legacy and had to forfeit the belt after a week or so. People wondered why WWE even bothered giving him the belt to begin with. This time around it's been different as Punk's held onto the belt, and his character has an interesting edge so to speak. Punk is now in the ultimate opportunist role that Edge often portrays, where he finds ways to win. On Raw he won the match of the night, a Triple Threat title match where he looked to be seriously injured yet still managed to make a pin on Edge (after Hardy's Swanton). He had an exchange with Jeff's brother Matt backstage to further solidify Punk's new role, where he isn't looking for anyone's praise. He's been playing a "tweener" role as fans question is Punk a good guy or bad guy, and what are his intentions? In all seriousness, competition is not always about making friends, it's about winning, and Punk's character is about doing so. There's no need to butter up Jeff Hardy, when Punk can rely on his in-ring skills and finding the ways to win. With that in mind, a Punk-Hardy fight at The Bash will be highly anticipated, and with a clean Punk win, fans can start taking him even more seriously as champion.

Smackdown Recap 06.19.09

SmackDown Recap from Roanoke, VA:

Jeff Hardy came to the ring to start off Smackdown. Josh Matthews interviewed Jeff in the ring regarding World Heavyweight champ CM Punk and their upcoming match at The Bash. Jeff vowed to regain his title at The Bash. Punk was invited to the ring to give his comments as well. Punk continued to say he's done nothing wrong and has no regrets in how he won the title or defended it on Raw. The fans seemed to be in support of Jeff Hardy during the bit.

Jeff Hardy vs. Chris Jericho

Jeff took on current Intercontinental champ Chris Jericho in a non-title bout. Despite early offense from Jeff, Jericho managed to ground the high-flyer and kept him stretched out in a submission hold. Jeff managed to escape it, and regain control hitting a double leg drop on Jericho's groin. Jericho again gained control as he locked in Walls of Jericho. Jeff escaped it and Jericho went to the outside where 3 fans in Mysterio masks were seated front row. One of them, the actual Mysterio, jumped out and onto Jericho. The incident caused Jericho to lose via countout. Rey returned to his seat with the other 2 Mysterio's and cheered the result, then watched Jeff give Jericho a Twist of Fate & Swanton Bomb.

Winner: Jeff Hardy wins due to countout of Chris Jericho.

The Great Khali vs. Dolph Ziggler

Another round between The Great Khali and Dolph Ziggler went down on Smackdown. Early on the giant wrestler clotheslined and booted Ziggler down with great force. With Khali in control, Ziggler exited the ring and in his frustration retrieved a steel chair with the ref's back turned. Ziggler then tossed the chair to Khali and fell down, acting as if he was hit by the chair and injured. The ref saw Khali holding the chair and called for the DQ despite protests from Ranjin Singh.

Winner: Dolph Ziggler wins due to disqualification of The Great Khali.

Melina vs. Alicia Fox

Michelle McCool's gal pal Alicia Fox (A-Fox) took on the Womens Champion Melina in a non-title contest. McCool accompanied Alicia to ringside. In the match, Alicia worked on Melina's back and used a painful submission hold to stretch her back. Despite "A-Fox"'s attempts to defeat Melina, the champ made a comeback and eventually catapulted her down into a pinfall. Melina's victory celebration was a brief one as Michelle attacked her from behind and tossed her outside the ring. With a mic in hand, Michelle promised to become the first diva to be both Womens and Divas champ. The two will meet in 2 weeks at The Bash.

Winner: Melina wins via pinfall over Alicia Fox.

Edge vs. John Morrison

Since breaking away from The Miz and being sent to Smackdown, John Morrison's been a rising star. On tonight's Smackdown he faced former World Heavyweight Champion Edge. The two had a verbal exchange on microphones prior to the match with Morrison telling Edge he's no longer entertaining, after Edge complained he had to wrestle someone inferior like Morrison. In the match, Morrison was on a roll several times with offensive attacks including high dropkicks on Edge. At one point, Edge put Morrison into the Sharpshooter and after releasing it, Edge was set up for The Spear. Morrison did a leapfrog over Edge's attempt, but when Morrison went for Starship Pain, Edge avoided it then hit the Spear to win it.

Winner: Edge wins via pinfall over John Morrison.

Cryme Tyme & R-Truth vs. The World’s Greatest Tag Team & Ricky Ortiz

A six man tag match featured R-Truth joining Cryme Tyme to battle Ortiz, Haas and Shelton. Early on the huge Shad Gaspar leveled Ortiz to the mat, but it wasn't long before Haas and Ortiz began doubleteaming their opponent. R-Truth and Shelton Benjamin went at it. Shelton was able to take down Truth several times, but in the end it was Truth hitting a Corkscrew Elbow on Shelton to collect the pinfall victory.

Winner: R-Truth & Cryme Tyme win via pinfall over The World's Greatest Tag Team & Ricky Ortiz.

Rey Mysterio came out and challenged Chris Jericho to a match for The Bash. Jericho accepted Rey's challenge for a "Mask vs. Title Match" at The Bash Pay-Per-View in 2 weeks.

CM Punk vs. Rey Mysterio

After just being challenged to a match for the Bash by Mysterio, Jericho decided to hang around and provide guest commentary. In the ring, CM Punk managed to ground Mysterio in the early part of the match, but Rey battled back from a submission hold on the mat. Punk avoided a 619 attempt and when Rey was outside the ring, Jericho got up and slammed him into the ring post. The interference allowed Punk to grab Mysterio in the ring and hit the GTS to win it. Jericho smirked from his commentary position.

As Punk celebrated his victory, Jeff Hardy rushed down to the ring and confronted him about the way he won the match. There was no physical altercation as Punk exited the ring and raised his title up as he backed up the ramp, ending Smackdown.

Winner: CM Punk wins via pinfall over Rey Mysterio.

Smackdown Preview 06.19.09

Raw's 3-for-all featured several of the Smackdown superstars in fierce battle, and several of those same superstars will be part of tonight's double main event. In one of the opening matches of the night, Chris Jericho defended the Intercontinental Title against the former champ, Rey Mysterio. Many people may have thought Mysterio was down and out after losing his title and mask at Extreme Rules, but the little big man was back in action. Mysterio gave the fight all he had, but once again Jericho tried to pull his mask off and then hit the Codebreaker once again to win. Tonight, Rey will face another champion, CM Punk, in a non-title bout. Punk has been rather mysterious lately as fans speculate. Does he have good or bad intentions? Or is Punk really just the newest "ultimate opportunist" finding ways to win? Who will win the Mysterio-Punk battle tonight?

In the other half of tonight's main event, Jeff Hardy will try to build momentum as he faces the Intercontinental champion, Chris Jericho. Jericho has claimed for weeks now that Smackdown is his show, however Jeff has carried the show for many weeks prior to Jericho's arrival. Tonight it may be either the Swanton Bomb or the Codebreaker which seals the deal for one of these superstars. Which star will prove victorious, Hardy or Edge?
Meanwhile, another former champion may be looking to reclaim his spotlight and glory. Edge lost the World Heavyweight Title at Extreme Rules to Jeff Hardy in the Ladder match. On Raw, it was Edge who suffered the pinfall loss at the hands of Punk. Jeff Hardy gets the right to face Punk at The Bash for the title, leaving the Rated-R Superstar out of the equation. Edge appears to be admist bad luck since losing the title and dumping Vickie Guerrero. Will he be able to turn things around and propel himself back into the title picture? Or will Jeff continue to build momentum as he heads towards the Bash?

Raw Revelations: Raw is Trump's

Last night saw another one of those 3-hour Raw episodes, the Raw 3-for-All but was it necessary? It seems WWE loves putting on 3 hour shows to see what sorts of new "Did You Know?" facts they can air, such as "Raw had more viewers from 8-11PM then any other channel in the world". Maybe it was scheduled just to bring fans up to speed on who owns which titles since they all moved around so rapidly. In fact, the WWE Title and World Heavyweight title each changed about 3 times within the past several weeks. Much of last night's 3 hour show was spent showing replays of earlier events and last week's events, as well as a lengthy in-ring segment featuring Goldust, The Miz and Hornswoggle. That routine of course helped put Miz over again as another annoying heel on Raw, who rarely wrestles but has taken Chris Jericho's spot on the show.

Still we had some pretty exciting matches with all 3 major titles on the line last night, as well as the Intercontinental Title. Three titles were successfully defended while the WWE Title was on the line as it had been vacated last week due to the Legacy attack on Batista. Randy Orton, Triple H, John Cena and Big Show did battle in a Fatal Fourway. Show fell victim to the Pedigree, Cena hit the Attitude Adjustment on HHH, but Orton ended up winning it by hitting the RKO on Show. Again, Batista's title reign seems so inconsequential right about now, but perhaps its to set up a future program between a returning Batista and HHH. After all, Batista was asking them to get him his WWE Title belt as he was loaded into the ambulance.

The big surprise of the night was not Randy Orton winning the Fatal Fourway to become WWE Champion again, but instead the announcement of Raw being sold to a new owner. Mr. McMahon reluctantly got into the ring and introduced the new owner, Donald Trump! Trump appeared "via satellite" which of course was a previously taped bit, as you could see Vince tried several times to make it appear he and Trump were bantering. That move is interesting, probably set up to bring more attention to WWE yet again, but Trump is by no means a great actor or guy to be running wrestling. However if you start seeing real money raining down from the rafters on Raw, expect ticket sales and attendance to be instant sellouts.

Best match of the night was easily the World Heavyweight Triple Threat, with CM Punk stealing the win by yanking Jeff Hardy off a pinfall and throwing him into the steel steps before pinning Edge. Punk is definitely taking pages out of Edge's own opportunist book. The match though saw all sorts of original spots and maneuvers between the three men, including Punk leapfrogging Edge as Edge speared Jeff. Another spot saw Punk bulldog one guy as he clotheslined the other. Some great action and the Hardy-Punk fight at the Bash promises to be a good one too.

In case you were wondering, here's the order of elimination and who eliminated who in last night's 10 Man Battle Royal to determine #1 contender for Orton's WWE Title.

1st elimination - Matt Hardy by Big Show
2nd elimination - MVP by Big Show
3rd elimination - Big Show by Cena, HHH, Rhodes, Dibiase, Kofi & Regal
4th elimination - Kofi Kingston by Legacy
5th elimination - William Regal by Legacy
6th elimination - Ted Dibiase by Cena
7th elimination - Cody Rhodes by HHH
8th elimination - The Miz by Cena & HHH
9th elimination - John Cena by HHH
Winner: Triple H becomes #1 Contender for WWE Title

I was expecting Miz to somehow eliminate Cena and then HHH to easily dispatch of Miz to win it, but nonetheless Triple H took this one. It'll now be Orton defending against HHH next week on Raw in a Last Man Standing match, prior to the Bash, per GM Trump's orders. I'm not quite sure if we may get HHH and Cena again in a match, but they definitely teased it in the Fatal Fourway and 10 Man Battle Royal. With Batista on the shelf for months, there's not many other guys available besides those four for the WWE Title picture. But we now have at least three matches set up for "The Bash 2009", with Triple H going against Orton for the WWE Title, Jeff Hardy going against Punk for the World Heavyweight and Rhodes/Dibiase facing The Colons for the Unified Tag titles.

So now we await next week and the arrival of Donald Trump to the arena to run the show!
