- Highlights were shown of the January 2008 match where Chavo challenged Punk for his ECW title. Vickie Guerrero made sure it was a No DQ match, which allowed Edge to interfere and Spear Punk down. Chavo took the pin and the ECW title. Chavo celebrated on the ramp with Vickie Guerrero and Edge. Matt Striker discussed how CM Punk couldn't recapture the ECW title, but made many valiant attempts. Highlights were shown of Punk attacking Chavo at the ECW Fiesta celebration, and then of Punk tossing Chavo into the Gulf of Mexico.

- Two Months later the Rated R-Superstar Edge visited Raw to inform everyone that his World Heavyweight title was off the table for anyone on Raw, including Batista who recently was drafted there. Batista took exception and came out to attack Edge, leaving him layed out in the ring. CM Punk then took the opportunity to cash in MITB and hit the GTS on Edge in the ring, pinned him and captured the World Heavyweight title.

CM Punk won the "OMG Moment of the Year" Slammy Award for capturing the title from Edge. Todd Grisham asked Striker how the GTS feels as highlights were shown of him on the receiving end of it.

- Wrestlemania XXIV's 24 Man Battle Royal highlights were shown. The winner of the contest got to face Chavo Guerrero for the ECW title later on. It came down to Kane vs. Mark Henry with Kane tossing Henry over the top rope. Later on, Chavo Guerrero awaited Kane's arrival to the ring for their title match. Kane showed up in the ring behind Chavo, and as Chavo turned the bell sounded. Kane chokeslammed Chavo and pinned him within 8 seconds to capture the ECW title.

- Kane went on a rampage defeating all opponents, until he came to a Triple Threat match against Mark Henry and Big Show at Night of Champions. Matt Striker said the entire weight in that match was 1,156 pounds. Kane attacked Big Show up on the corner suplexing him off. Cyber Sunday 10/26/08

At Cyber Sunday 2008, the fans voted for Cryme Tyme to face Miz & Morrison in a tag match. JTG escaped as Miz tried to slingshot him into Morrison for an elbow. Instead, JTG hit Morrison off the apron and stomped on Miz with his boot. JTG crawled over for the tag to Shad. Morrison tagged in as well, but Shad clotheslined him down, then booted Miz down as well. Shad had the momentum but Morrison escaped a pin at 2.

All 4 men ended up in the ring after Miz broke up Shad's pin attempt on Morrison. The ref tried to get JTG out of the ring and as he was distracted, The Miz ran over and kicked Shad in the leg. Morrison took the opportunity to hit the Moonlight Drive, then stole the pin.

Matt delivered a Twist of Fate on MVP off the ladder.

- At Unforgiven 2008 the ECW Championship Scramble match was held with Mark Henry as champ. Every 5 minutes a new superstar was added to the match, until Finlay, The Miz, Chavo Guerrero, Mark Henry, John Morrison and Matt Hardy were all present. The title seemed to change hands several times with Chavo Guerrero and Finlay both making pins, but Matt was able to hit the Twist of Fate on Miz and captured the title. As the match time was winding down, Matt used a defensive strategy making sure to prevent any other pinfalls from happening. As the clock expired, Matt had the last pin and became the new ECW Champion.

ECW returned with highlights of new ECW star, the high-flying Evan Bourne. Bourne's Shooting Star Press won the Slammy for Finishing Maneuver of the Year.

Evan Bourne vs. Matt Hardy

At Cyber Sunday it was the high-flying superstar Bourne receiving the majority of fan votes over Finlay & Mark Henry. Striker said many are calling this the match of the year. Early on Bourne hit an impressive dropkick which took Matt by surprise. Later still, Matt hit a Side Effect and tried for a pin with Bourne kicking out. Matt hit a second Side Effect, and Bourne escaped the pin again. Hardy went to the second rope and jumped at Bourne, but Evan jumped up and hit a spinning heel kick in Matt's gut. Bourne hit a flying double knee off the corner onto Matt but Matt escaped the pin.

Smackdown Preview 12.19.08

Tonight's episode of Smackdown will be historic, as it will be the first appearance on Smackdown for the brand new WWE Champion, Jeff Hardy. Hardy is coming off a huge victory at last Sunday's Armageddon Pay-Per-View, where he defeated Edge and Triple H in a Triple Threat match. Despite interference from Vladimir Kozlov and the usual tricks from Edge, Hardy managed to hit a Swanton Bomb from the corner and pin the Rated R-Superstar. Now Hardy has impressive victories over both men. What will the brand new champ have to say to the fans and Smackdown roster this Friday? Also, who will be the next man to challenge Hardy?

The other two superstars involved in Jeff's Triple Threat match may try to claim they are the #1 Contender. Triple H was close to the pinfall on Edge after a Pedigree, but Hardy managed to grab it away with a Swanton. Edge, the former champ now, will have the most clout in terms of getting a rematch, especially with Smackdown GM Vickie Guerrero on his side. Will Edge exercise his rematch clause on Smackdown? What will The Game have to say regarding his loss at Armageddon? Will he go after Vladimir Kozlov next?

Vladimir Kozlov continues to dominate the rest of the competition as well. At Armageddon the Russian superstar was impressive yet again. This time Kozlov defeated the ECW Champ, Matt Hardy, in a non-title fight. Kozlov attempted to interfere in the WWE title match, but Matt was there to prevent his attack and get Kozlov away from the ring. Now with Kozlov having defeated Hardy, Triple H, and previously Jeff Hardy in a match, who will he turn his attention to? Will Kozlov continue his pursuit of Matt Hardy, or turn his attention back to Matt's brother, the new WWE champ?

Catch all the WWE Divas and Superstars of Smackdown this Friday at 8PM EST on MyNetworkTV!

Raw Recap 12.15.08

Raw Recap from Pittsburgh, PA:

As Raw opened, Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler discussed the surprises of last night's Armageddon. A picture was shown of Jeff Hardy wearing the WWE Title after winning the Triple Threat match. Also, last night it was discovered that Shawn Michaels is broke, and now will be an employee for JBL. Over the weekend, The Miz & John Morrison won the World Tag Team titles by defeating CM Punk & Kofi Kingston in Ontario, Canada.

Kelly Kelly & Melina vs. Jillian Hall & Beth Phoenix

The WWE Divas were out to open WWE Raw. Michael Cole mentioned a Santa's Little Helpers divas match from Armageddon that Lawler enjoyed. Santino accompanied Beth to the ring. As they got towards the ring, they spotted a female fan with a "Beth Phoenix is Hot" poster. The woman asked for a photo, and Santino rushed over to stand by her. The woman then motioned that she wanted a pic with Beth not Santino. Beth went over and then threw the camera to Santino to snap the picture.

During the match, Cole noted that Kelly Kelly was named "Hardest Hitting Diva" in WWE magazine. Kelly started the match and was able to do an impressive backflip when Jillian grabbed her foot. As Kelly got to the ropes though, Beth grabbed her hair and yanked her down to the mat. Jillian continued to punish Kelly, kneeing her. Kelly tried to flip out of a slam move, but fell to the mat. She tried to stretch over for a tag to Melina, but Jillian saw it and rushed over to hit Melina off the apron. Just then, Kelly grabbed Jillian and rolled her up for a winning pinfall.

As Kelly celebrated the win, Jillian hit her down from behind. Beth rushed over to attack Melina, and then the two divas started to kick Kelly on the mat. Just then, pyro erupted from backstage, and Kane made his way out from backstage to the ring. Kane chased Jillian and Beth out of the ring. Kane stood over Kelly who started to back away in fear of the Big Red Monster. Kane backed her into a corner staring in her face, then offered his hand. Kelly rolled out of the ring, then started to back up the ramp, but Kane followed her all the way backstage.

Winners: Kelly Kelly & Melina win via pinfall over Jillian Hall & Beth Phoenix.

Raw returned with a replay of Kane stalking Kelly up the ramp. Footage was then shown backstage, with a fearful Kelly in a hallway, looking over her shoulder. She kept moving forward and bumped into Jamie Noble. He asked if she was alright and Kelly continued going. As Noble turned he tried to stand in front of Kane, but Kane shoved him to the wall. Kane found Kelly hiding around a corner then walked up to her. Kane got in Kelly's face and said they need to talk.

Rey Mysterio vs. Deuce (Sim Snuka)

Cody Rhodes and Manu were at ringside to watch the matchup. After Lilian introduced Deuce, he took the mic from her. Deuce said from now on he wants to be introduced by his real name, Sim Snuka, since he's the son of WWE Hall of Famer, Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka.

During the match, Sim Snuka displayed impressive power against Mysterio, impressing Manu and Rhodes. Snuka used knees to Mysterio's back on the mat, then wore him down with a chin lock. Snuka tried for a knee drop splash move off the ropes, but Mysterio avoided it, then dropkicked Snuka. Rey ducked a clothesline and started to fight back, using a headscissors to flip Snuka to the mat. Rey tried to whip Snuka to the ropes, but Snuka came back with a high knee to Rey's face. Snuka couldn't capture the pinfall, and Rey started to gain momentum.

Off the corner, Rey jumped at Snuka. Snuka caught him in mid air, but Rey turned it into a headscissors and tossed Snuka to the ropes. Rey ran across the ring to come at him for a 619, but Snuka rolled out. Snuka turned to acknowledge Manu and Rhodes, but Rey jumped off the apron onto Snuka. The momentum caused Rey to go into Rhodes slightly. Rhodes took exception and shoved Mysterio, then Rey came back to push him down. Manu came over to knock down Mysterio. Mysterio got back in the ring and rushed out toward the bottom of the ramp as Manu and Rhodes tried to go after him. Just then, Mike Knox came running up behind Mysterio and attacked him. Knox grabbed Rey and used his finisher to twist slam Rey into the ground.

Winner: Rey Mysterio wins via disqualification when Manu & Rhodes attacked him.

A D-Generation X advertisement for WWE Shop was shown. Products highlighted included the DX Sweatshirt, DX T-Shirt, and then bear stuffed animals representing Triple H and Shawn Michaels. HHH joked how the Michaels bear had hair just like Shawn's, and if you push the button on it, all the hair falls out.

Jerry Lawler and Michael Cole discussed how it was revealed at Armageddon that Shawn Michaels is near bankrupt, so he has decided to become JBL's employee.

Kane ordered Kelly to sit down in a dark back room. He talked to Kelly about how she looked him in he eye as they presented a Slammy and told him "Love is a wonderful thing". Kane asked if she was trying to tell him something. Kelly said they were presenting an away. Kane asked Kelly if she was leading him on, then told her that many people have hurt him and take advantage of. Kane opened the door and told Kelly she could leave right now. Kelly got up to go, but Kane slammed the door. As Kelly sat back down, Kane said he knew she felt something.

Todd Grisham talked to Randy Orton backstage. Grisham asked Orton what he has to say, after demanding to speak. Orton said earlier he challenged Batista to a rematch and hasn't heard any reply. Orton said it's because Batista is a coward. Just then, Batista was there in Orton's face. He said if Orton wants his answer, he's got it. Orton slapped Batista in the face. An enraged Batista chased Orton backstage and out to the ramp. Orton lured Batista towards him, and just then Manu and Rhodes came rushing out from backstage, knocking Batista down. All three men began to beat up Batista down the ramp. All of a sudden, John Cena came rushing out from backstage. Cena knocked down Manu and punched Rhodes away. Orton quickly headed to the top of the ramp. He and Cena stared at one another, as Manu and Rhodes recovered up near Orton.

Batista thanked Cena for saving him earlier. Cena said no problem because he told himself once he finished with Jericho he was going after Orton, Rhodes & Manu next. Batista started to ask Cena about his rematch with Jericho. Todd Grisham came up to Cena and Batista to let them know that Stephanie McMahon scheduled a match for later. It will be a 3 on 2 handicap match with Rhodes, Manu & Orton facing Cena and Batista. Batista told Cena they'd finish their conversation later.

Hacksaw Jim Duggan vs. Chris Jericho

Jericho came out from backstage walking down the ramp in a suit, not dressed for the match. Duggan, Lilian and the ref looked puzzled as he got into the ring. Jericho took the mic from Lilian then said he's refusing to wrestle tonight. Jericho reminded everyone he's the 2008 Superstar of the Year and has been carrying Raw for the whole year. Jericho said it's insulting he should have to compete against someone like Duggan after all that. Jericho said he's the best in the world at what he does. Jericho announced he won't enter the ring again until he's given a championship match or match worthy of the Superstar of the Year. Duggan looked dejected by the comments as Jericho left the ring and walked backstage arrogantly.

Winner: Match never officially started, and Chris Jericho left the ring.

Kelly Kelly was shown backstage in a dark room sitting and shivering as Kane intimidated her. Kane asked Kelly if she wanted to get to know him better, and Kelly said no. Kane asked if there was someone else and Kelly shook her head yes. Kane screamed at her asking who it is. Kane told Kelly she will tell him whether she wants to or not.

CM Punk & Kofi Kingston vs. John Morrison & The Miz
World Tag Team Title Match

Slideshow pics from a live event two days ago in Ontario, Canada were shown, where Miz and Morrison captured the World Tag titles against Punk and Kingston. Tonight, they gave the former champs a rematch on Raw.

With Punk still on his shoulders, Morrison moved towards the corner. Punk was able to get to the corner, kick Morrison away, then suplexed Miz down. This move allowed Punk the opportunity to crawl over and tag in Kingston. Miz barely managed to tag in Morrison. Kofi went on a rampage as he knocked Morrison down then did a double leg drop on him.

Kofi had a near pinfall but Miz was in to break things up. Punk rushed in and knocked Miz out of the ring then dove over the rope onto him. Kingston tried to roll up Morrison for the win, but Morrison kicked out. Morrison whipped Kofi to the corner, but Kofi attempted to jump back at him off the corner. Morrison moved away then jumped off the rope to spin kick Kofi down. Morrison had a winning pin, but Punk rushed into the ring to stop it. Miz was back in and beat up Punk across the ring and back to the outside. As Kofi turned his attention to them, Morrison took advantage by kicking Kingston in the gut, then hitting the Moonlight Drive to win it.

Winners: John Morrison & The Miz win via pinfall over Kofi Kingston & CM Punk to retain the World Tag Team titles.

After the tag team title match, Miz and Morrison started to celebrate in the ring, but suddenly pyro exploded up near the ramp. Kane emerged from backstage, then stared at Regal who had been sitting in a throne at the top of the ramp. Kane got into the ring with Punk, Kingston, Miz and Morrison. Kane looked at Punk briefly, then turned and grabbed Miz with a hand on his throat. Morrison tried to attack but Kane booted him down, then Chokeslammed The Miz to the mat. Lawler speculated that Kelly must have said The Miz is her current interest, prompting Kane's attack. Kane hit Miz with a Tombstone Pliedriver then looked down menacingly at him.

Members of the Pittsburgh Steelers were shown clowning around in the Raw live audience.

JBL made his way out from backstage to the top of the ramp with a mic in hand. JBL invited everyone to watch the comments made by his newest employee last night, Shawn Michaels. New WWE Champ, Jeff Hardy

Congratulations are truly in order for Smackdown superstar, Jeff Hardy. Hardy captured the WWE title for his first time last night at the 2008 Armageddon PPV. It's been a long road to say the least for WWE superstar Jeff Hardy. Hardy's been treading on thin ice with 2 suspensions for violating the WWE Wellness Policy due to drug issues. He was escorted off a plane months ago by police due to somewhat reckless behavior. There were also the tragic news reports of Jeff losing his home and a dog to a bad fire. He's been involved in the WWE title picture for months, whether on Smackdown or previously Raw. But he was always just barely missing the pin, missing the win. Last night he finally climbed to the top of the mountain winning the title, then climbed to the top of the Armageddon set in victorious, symbolic fashion.

Does Jeff deserve the title right now? Some may question it due to his previous problems. For a while it seemed as if he would never be awarded the WWE title due to his outside issues. After all, Hardy is one bad decision away from permanently ending his WWE career. But Hardy's definitely got wrestling skills and is one of the most extreme, talented superstars in the WWE. Perhaps the WWE realizes that Jeff is a true fan favorite and has legions of fans supporting him, which translates to ratings and merchandise sales. In the past, it was the Chairman's son-in-law, Triple H, receiving the honor and being crowned champ, time after time. Triple H even used Jeff's personal demons as his trash talk leading into their title fights, letting Jeff and the fans know he would never be able to achieve the same success. Last night saw Jeff finally one-up Triple H, and capture the title Hunter has worn so many times.

Right now it seems the Hardys are ruling the WWE, with Matt achieving the ECW title not long ago, and Jeff achieving the WWE title last night. They've been tag champs, Hardcore champions, Matt's been the US Champ, and Jeff's been Intercontinental champ. Now they each have more gold on their resume. It still would have made a much better story to have Jeff win the WWE title at Wrestlemania 25, and maybe Matt win the World Heavyweight. It'd be a historic headline at a historic 25th anniversary event. Still, their success now is deserved, as these two brothers are likely to be future WWE Hall of Famers, perhaps inducted at the same ceremony. For now let's enjoy their success and their roller-coaster ride to fame which has had as many ups and downs as the Ladder matches they've both starred in.

Matt Hardy vs. Vladimir Kozlov

During this match, commentator Matt Striker noted that Kozlov was Matt Hardy's toughest opponent ever, and he may have been right! Matt gave all he could in the match, but it wasn't enough against the undefeated Russian. Kozlov used a barrage of powerful moves combined with submission holds on Matt, eventually targeting the hurt left arm of Hardy. Matt was able to stage a comeback, eventually knocking Kozlov to the outside, but as Matt jumped out at him, Kozlov caught him. Matt was able to counter and slammed Kozlov into the ring post, then hit a Side Effect inside the ring for just a 2 count. Matt's arm started to bleed from a cut he received during the match. Matt went for Twist of Fate, but Kozlov countered. There were several near pinfalls between the two wrestlers. The action went to the corner of the ring, where Kozlov was able to slam Matt's head into the ringpost, then slam him down on the mat for a three count to win it.

Winner: Vladimir Kozlov wins via pinfall over Matt Hardy.

Rey Mysterio vs. CM Punk
Intercontinental Title Tournament Finals

Current Intercontinental Champ, William Regal, came to ringside along with girlfriend to watch the Finals match between Mysterio and Punk. The match had a fast and frantic pace between the two quick, high-flying superstars. The match went in and out of the ring several times, with each superstar mounting offense. At one point, Mysterio used a missile dropkick which sent Punk to the outside. Rey followed with a suicide dive to crash into Punk outside the ring, then rolled him back in. After a cross-body lateral press, Mysterio and Punk exchanged near pinfalls in the ring, continuing the exciting pace. After Punk dropped Mysterio face first on the turnbuckle, Rey almost stole a win with a pinfall there. As the match continued, Punk went for GTS but Rey countered and sent Punk into the ropes for a 619. Rey did a springboard splash off the top rope onto Punk but only got a 2 count. Punk was finally able to get Mysterio into the GTS and hit the finisher on Rey to score the winning pinfall. CM Punk now moves on to face Intercontinental Champion, William Regal.

Winner: CM Punk wins via pinfall over Rey Mysterio to become #1 Contender for the Intercontinental Title.

The next segment at the Armageddon Pay-Per-View featured JBL and his continual offer to buy Shawn Michaels as his employee. In weeks past on Raw, JBL made the offer to Shawn Michaels to come work for him, as he was getting old and his career couldn't last much longer. JBL came out to the ring at Armageddon and introduced the crowd to his "newest employee", Shawn Michaels. HBK got in the ring and began speaking to the crowd about how even he is not immuned to the bad economy right now. Michaels informed everyone that he spent his money on the good life as well as paying for all his own surgeries. Michaels said despite not liking JBL overall, he's good financially and working for him is in his best interest. Michaels says this move will help him put his kids through college and save his brother and sisters' homes from foreclosure. JBL extended a handshake and Michaels shook as the crowd booed and chanted things like "you sold out" at Michaels.

Finlay vs. Mark Henry
Belfast Brawl

In this match between the two ECW stars, the only way to win is pinfall or submission. Finlay showed up alone to the match, in which both men used all sorts of weapons against their opponent. Henry punished Finlay inside and outside the ring, but as the action went back inside, Henry sent Finlay to the corner. Finlay countered using a trash can to hit Henry, then hit him with a series of Kendo stick shots. Finlay hit Henry with a DDT, then kicked a trash can into his head. During the match, Finlay went at Henry with his Shilaleigh, but Henry countered, then snapped the shilaleigh in half. Mark Henry was able to regain control and put Finlay down on the mat in the corner to attempt a seated Splash off the ropes. Finlay avoided the move, and Henry eventually cinched a Bear Hug around Finlay. Just then, Hornswoggle showed up near ringside. An angry Mark Henry sent Finlay into Hornswoggle, causing Horny to disappear under the ring. Henry then started beating Finlay unmercifully using a trash can and right-hand punches. Henry tossed some steel steps into the ring, then went to hit Finlay with a chair. Finlay countered using a dropkick, then Hornswoggle tossed him a fresh new shilaleigh. Finlay clocked Henry with the shilaleigh then scored the winning pinfall.

Winner: Finlay wins via pinfall over Mark Henry in the Belfast Brawl.

Batista vs. Randy Orton
#1 Contender for World Heavyweight Title

In this match, Batista and Orton fought to determine the next #1 Contender for the World Heavyweight title. Team Priceless members Manu and Cody Rhodes accompanied Orton down to the ring for the match. Early on, after Orton was able to send Batista to the outside, Manu and Rhodes came into play attacking Batista. The referee caught their involvement and ejected both men from ringside. The two men continued their match with a series of counters and near falls. Orton worked on Batista's knee and beat him up in and out of the ring. At one point in the ring, Orton was ready to deliver his Punt Kick on Batista who was down on the mat. Batista avoided the move and sent Orton into the ropes. From the middle rope, Batista began to pound Randy Orton with a series of punches. Orton was able to hoist Batista up on his shoulders, but Batista wisely countered it and hit the Batista Bomb to finish off Orton.

Winner: Batista wins via pinfall over Randy Orton to become the new #1 Contender for the World Heavyweight title.

Chris Jericho vs. John Cena
World Heavyweight title

The World Heavyweight title match started Cena and Jericho staring one another down and trash talking, just prior to the bell. As the match got underway, the two superstars exchanged moves inside before Jerich orolled to the outside. Cena followed him out and back into the ring, allowing Jericho to start beating on Cena. As the match came towards its finish, Jericho attempted a Superplex on Cena off the corner. Cena managed to counter out then hit a leg drop off the corner onto Jericho. Cena signaled for the FU as Jericho got out of a pinfall. Jericho countered Cena's attempt and hit the Code Breaker, but only could get a count of 2 on the champ. After a near pinfall, Cena managed to hit the FU but both men were down on the mat from the move. The ref started a double count, until Cena went to attack Jericho.

Chris Jericho managed to counter Cena again, rolling into a small package. Cena kicked out, then went for the STFU submission. Jericho again reversed Cena and got him into Walls of Jericho. Cena crawled towards the ropes to break it, but Jericho yanked him back to center of the ring. Cena finally managed to reverse the submission and got Jericho into the STFU. After Jericho tapped out, Cena was still World Heavyweight Champion.

Winner: John Cena wins via submission over Chris Jericho to retain the World Heavyweight title.

Triple H vs. Jeff Hardy vs. Edge
WWE Title Triple Threat match

Jeff Hardy, Triple H and Edge faced off in the main event, a Triple Threat match for the WWE title. This match became a fast-paced affair involving all 3 men, as well as Vladimir Kozlov and his earlier opponent, Matt Hardy. The action went to the outside with the Raw and Smackdown announce tables both being ripped apart and HHH, Hardy and Edge being bounced off them by each other. Vladimir Kozlov came down to the ring to try to get involved in the match, yanking HHH outside. Matt Hardy soon showed up to go after Kozlov. As Jeff climbed onto the top turnbuckle, Kozlov was able to shove him off to the outside. Back in the ring, Edge was able to Spear down Triple H. Edge was about to go for a Con-Chairto attempt on HHH, but Jeff Hardy was back on the apron and hit Edge with his own chair shot. Hardy then climbed to the top for a Swanton on Edge, but Triple H was quickly up to knock him off. HHH hit the Pedigree on Edge, but Jeff was able to quickly do a Swanton off the corner ropes and grab the winning pinfall. Jeff Hardy is your new WWE Champion!

After his victory, Jeff high-fived fans and threw his elbow sleeves into the crowd, then climbed to the top of the Armageddon set at the top of the ramp to celebrate.

Winner: Jeff Hardy wins via pinfall over Edge to become the new WWE Champion.

Congratulations to all of tonight's winners, especially Jeff Hardy for finally capturing that WWE Championship belt! It's been a long road for Hardy, but things have now culminated in a major title victory. Thank you for viewing the 2008 Armageddon results page! 2008 Armageddon Predictions

Armageddon 2008 arrives with titles on the line, #1 Contenders to be Decided, and a good ol' fashioned grudge match. Hate to say it, but this will be one of those Pay-Per-Views that extends feuds further and keeps the titles where they are currently. Cena and Edge have just returned to their respective shows, and they should be holding the titles as 2009 comes along. We also have a #1 Contender match for the Intercontinental title tournament, and the #1 Contender match for Raw's World Heavyweight title. Check out the predictions below, and feel free to leave your comments below regarding Armageddon 2008!

Matt Hardy vs. Vladimir Kozlov

In a grudge match between ECW's champ and Smackdown's resident Moscow Mauler, Matt Hardy will face Vladimir Kozlov in a non-title bout. While Hardy was able to hold off Kozlov on Smackdown's "Beat the Clock Challenge", it makes perfect sense here that Kozlov picks up the win. After all, it's a non-title match leaving Hardy the opportunity for a rematch. WWE may even start to push Kozlov onto ECW, which is strange considering how far he went on Smackdown and was barely in the WWE title picture after a hot streak. The undefeated Kozlov is the recipient of "Breakthrough Superstar in 2008" Slammy Award, and he'll continue his winning ways at Armageddon.

Prediction: Kozlov continues to display his dominance, pinning Hardy in a non-title fight.

Batista vs. Randy Orton
#1 Contender for World Heavyweight Title

These two superstars have wanted to settle their differences for weeks now. Orton and Batista are former Evolution members who want to prove they are the better of the two. Batista was in the title picture right up until Cena returned. Batista had a short run with the title, and strangely lost in a bloody cage match to Jericho. Orton continues to claim it's his era now, and that Batista will be another win on his resume. It'd be nice to see one of those classic double-situations here, but right now the idea seems to be to push Orton along with Team Priceless. And that's just what will happen Sunday, Priceless will back up Orton and help him get the win. The RKO most likely finishes off the Animal, and brings us back to the Orton-Cena feud which was going on before Cena's injury. Possibly WWE is saving Batista vs. Cena Round II for Wrestlemania 25?

Prediction: Randy Orton wins with the help of his new allies, Team Priceless.

Rey Mysterio vs. CM Punk
Intercontinental Title Tournament Finals

This match will decide who gets to face William Regal for the prized Intercontinental title. The tournament was recently set up just when WWE's History of the Intercontinental title DVD was released, and after several rounds on Raw, Mysterio and Punk are left standing. Both men appear to have injuries, with Rey having torn ligaments in his arm/wrist, and Punk having a bad leg against Morrison. How much these will play into the match is anyone's guess. Both men should be ready to go, barring another plot by some superstar to remove Punk from the tournament. If Kofi Kingston had been Punk's opponent, it'd be easy to take Punk as winner. In this match, I see Mysterio taking the win en route to another title achievement in his great WWE career. A feud with William Regal seems like the next logical step for Mysterio now that the Kane feud has ended. Punk will continue to defend his tag titles with Kofi, and possibly feud with his partner like so many have before.

Prediction: Rey Mysterio defeats CM Punk to become the #1 Contender for Intercontinental Title.

Chris Jericho vs. John Cena
World Heavyweight title

As we all know the Champ is back, and ready to take Jericho out. Cena seems to have had it with Jericho running his mouth on Raw, berating the fans and the wrestling industry. This match will give Cena another solid win on his return from injury, and we may see Randy Orton appear towards the end of the match as Cena's next opponent. Cena vs. Orton at the Royal Rumble, now where will that leave Batista & Jericho? There's always the possibility of a good old fashioned Fatal Fourway at the Rumble, but let's hope they stick a few of those guys in the Rumble match itself.

Prediction: Cena delivers a win by the FU or STFU. Orton possibly attends the conclusion of the match to scout his future opponent.

Triple H vs. Jeff Hardy vs. Edge
WWE Title Triple Threat match

Let's face it Edge wins with trickery and deception, and why will this match be any different. The likely finish will see Jeff Hardy either knocked out of the ring, or probably hit with a chair or other object by Edge. Edge will cheat his way to a pin on The Game, and this will continue Jeff & Edge's recent feud. Jeff continues to believe it was Edge who attacked him in the hotel room, while Edge tried to point the finger at Triple H. We may even get an accidental knockout by Triple H on Hardy, followed by Edge spearing down The Game. Either way, Edge wins it to keep that WWE title cinched around his waist. (Spoiler Note: a future house show lists Jeff Hardy vs. WWE Champ Edge in its main event)

Prediction: Edge wins to remain the WWE champion, possibly pinning Triple H to keep Edge's feud with Hardy.

See if you can beat WWE Characters the Blog predictions by leaving the names of who you think will win in the comment section below! Enjoy the 2008 Armageddon Pay-Per-View and check back here Sunday night for full results and match recaps!

Smackdown Preview 12.12.08

Tonight's Smackdown will serve as a precursor to Sunday's Armageddon Pay-Per-View, where the WWE title will be contested in a Triple Threat match. Edge is the current champion after returning at Survivor Series to capture the belt, in sneaky fashion. Jeff Hardy and Triple H both have gripes about that, as HHH was the current champ, and Hardy was scheduled to be in the last Pay-Per-View's Triple Threat. Now both men head into Armageddon looking to take the belt. Meanwhile Edge and Vickie are coming off another victory as 2008 Couple of the Year. What will the destructive duo have in store for Triple H and Jeff Hardy prior to Armageddon? Will one competitor stand taller than the rest?

A superstar who continues to be on a serious losing streak is Montell Vontavius Porter. On the special 3 hour edition of Raw this past Monday, MVP fought against impersonator Charlie Haas as "MVC". MVC was able to steal the win, embarassing MVP right after he had insulted the Phillies and their hometown fans. On Smackdown last week, MVP lost to Kung Fu Naki. As his losses continue to pile up, MVP's money starts to dwindle in terms of contract bonuses. Who will MVP face on Smackdown? Will the superstar claim a much needed win on tonight's show to end the streak?

During last week's Smackdown, Matt Hardy was able to keep Vladimir Kozlov from winning the Beat the Clock challenge, prompting Kozlov to call Hardy a "coward". Vladimir Kozlov made it clear on this past week's ECW show that he wants Matt Hardy, and he intends to destroy Hardy. Kozlov issued a challenge by beating down ECW original, Tommy Dreamer in the ring. Hardy accepted the challenge to set up a non-title match at the Armageddon PPV. Will the mauler from Moscow have more to say on tonight's show? Or will he let his actions speak louder than words?

Catch Smackdown tonight at 8PM EST on MyNetworkTV!

Pittsburgh Live - WWE Raw

On Monday December 15th, Raw will take the stage at the Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh, PA. PittsburghLive.com's recent article takes a look at the WWE Raw show coming to town the night after the Armageddon Pay-Per-View. The article talks to Marc Snider "aka Bubba", a local DJ and organizer/promoter of a regional wrestling federation, which works with WWE at times. Bubba discusses how wrestling characters can develop positively or negatively based on the gimmicks they are given.

From Pittsburgh Live:

"He's phenomenal," Bubba raves. "One of the things that happens in pro wrestling, the bookers -- the people who come up with the storylines -- give you a gimmick. They tell you 'You're Santino Marella, that's your gimmick.' Some of these young wrestlers are given gimmicks and do nothing with them. It doesn't matter if you can do backflips, if you can do frog-splashes, it doesn't really matter if you can fly over the top rope -- nothing really matters as much as your ability to tell a story.

"Santino Marella wasn't given the best gimmick," Bubba says, "but he's created a character that people love to hate. Last week's 'Monday Night RAW,' where he tried to do a split in the ring, was so funny -- the female wrestler in the ring and the announcer at ringside were laughing hysterically."

The article goes on to get some words of wisdom from Santino Marella about the character he plays, and whether he's always been a hated man. In addition, the article reveals the main event for Raw, which relates to the Armageddon PPV card, but no winner spoilers are given.

Winner: Edge wins via pinfall over Kung Fu Naki.

Maria vs. Michelle McCool

In another non-title match, WWE Divas Maria and Michelle squared off. Maria continues to be a top contender or the Divas Championship as she feuds with Michelle. At one point in the match, Michelle went for a superkick. but Maria ducked it and was able to use a roll up pin for the win.

Winner: Maria wins via pinfall over Michelle McCool.

Backstage The Bella Twins as well as Carlito & Primo Colon are shown celebrating Maria's win with her. Michelle enters the group and then kicked Maria.

Big Show discussed his upcoming match later in the night against the Undertaker inside a Steel Cage.

MVP was in the ring and discussed his current losing streak in the WWE. MVP made complaints that they took away his cool entrance and pyrotechnics. MVP then vowed to get payback on his opponent in the ring. All of a sudden, Gregory Helms' theme music came on and Helms made his return to Smackdown.

Gregory Helms vs. MVP

Helms made his Smackdown return after over a year off to recover from injury and surgery. In the match he made an impressive return as he was able to pin MVP after using the "Shining Wizard" finisher. MVP continues his losing streak.

Winner: Gregory Helms wins via pinfall over MVP.

Triple H & Jeff Hardy vs. Zack Ryder & Curt Hawkins
Gauntlet Match #1

In the first of their Gauntlet matches, HHH and Hardy had a successful start. Triple H was able to hit the Pedigree on Curt Hawkins and then Jeff followed with a Swanton Bomb off the corner. Jeff took the pin on Hawkins to win their first Gauntlet match.

Winners: Triple H & Jeff Hardy win Gauntlet Match #1 by pinfall over Curt Hawkins and Zach Ryder.

Triple H & Jeff Hardy vs. The Miz & John Morrison

Gauntlet match #2 was not so successful for Hardy and HHH. The match was a back and forth affair for quite a while, until Hardy and HHH began arguing. HHH and Hardy got into each others face and then finally started to fight. A bunch of security guards came out to the ring to separate the two future opponents for Armageddon.

Winners: Match was called when HHH and Jeff Hardy began to fight one another.

Backstage, Vickie Guerrero was shown with Edge. Edge professed his undying love to Vickie, but Jeff Hardy came in to interrupt. Suddenly, Triple H came in and attacked Hardy. Edge and Vickie began to make out. Next week, Jeff Hardy will take on Triple H in a one-on-one matchup (12/5/08 Smackdown).

Matt Hardy vs. Chavo Guerrero

As the match was in progress, Vladimir Kozlov came out and attacked Hardy. Vladimir threw Chavo Guerrero out of the ring and continued attacking Hardy. The match was called a disqualification due to Vladimir Kozlov's interference. As Kozlov left the scene, several referees assisted Matt Hardy in getting backstage.

Winner: Matt Hardy wins due to disqualification when Vladimir Kozlov interfered.

With a red carpet on the ramp and holiday decorations set up, the Great Khali came out wearing a big Santa hat. His translator/manger Ranjin Singh was dressed as an elf. Great Khali and Singh started another edition of the Kiss Cam. This time, WWE Diva Eve Torres came out dressed up as a "Santa's little helper", and kissed the Great Khali.

The Undertaker b. The Big Show

In the main event, Undertaker and Big Show went to resolve their differences inside the confines of a steel cage. This match was back and forth throughout with each wrestler getting the upperhand at certain points. It finally ended when Undertaker applied the Devils Triangle submission hold on Big Show inside the cage. Show tapped out giving Undertaker the victory.

Winner: The Undertaker wins via submission over Big Show.

2008 Armageddon Theme - Chinese Democracy by Guns N' Roses Lyrics

guns n roses logo According to metalunderground.com, the WWE has signed rock band Guns N' Roses to provide the theme song for the 2008 Armageddon Pay-Per-View. Guns N' Roses' hardrock title track from their latest album, Chinese Democracy
icon will provide the backdrop of the last WWE Pay-Per-View in 2008. Their album is 17 years in the making for the group, but features just one original member, 46 year old lead singer Axel Rose. New members include bandmembers from groups such as Nine Inch Nails and The Replacements. According to a New York Times article in 2005, they described the album as the "most expensive album never made," estimating its cost at $13 million.

Right now the group's return album is available exclusively at iTunes & BestBuy stores. The full album was streamed ahead of release on Myspace. One song was also released for a video game. The song "Chinese Democracy" has peaked at #34 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles list, and the band hopes that the additional exposure with WWE will help increase awareness of their new album. A recent news story discussed how fans of the band in China were unable to buy the album legally due to its title. Fans were still able to listen to the 14 track album on the band's Myspace page.

2008 Armageddon Theme
Chinese Democracy Lyrics
by Guns N' Roses

It don't really matter
You're gonna find out for yourself
No it don't really matter
You're gonna leave this thing to somebody else

If they were missionaries
Real time visionaries
Sitting in a Chinese stew
To view my dis-in-fat-u-ation

I know that I'm a classic case
Watch my disenchanted face
Blame it on the Falun Gong
They've seen the end and it can't hold on now

'Cause it would take a lot more hate than you
To end the fascination
Even with an iron fist
All they got to rule the nation
When all I've got is precious time

It don't really matter
Guess I'll keep it to myself
Said it don't really matter
It's time I look around for somebody else

'Cause it would take a lot more time than you
Have got for masturbation
Even with your iron fist
All they got to rule the nation
When all we got is precious time
All they got to fool the nation
When all I got is precious time

It don't really matter
I guess you'll find out for yourself
No it don't really matter
So you can hear it now from somebody else

You think you got it all locked up inside
And if you beat 'em enough they'll die
It's like a walk in the park from a cell
And now you're keeping your own kind in hell
When your great wall rocks blame yourself
While their arms reach up for your help
And you're out of time.

Smackdown Preview 12.21.07

Tonight's Smackdown will see a brand new championship reign begin for the Rated R Superstar, Edge. Edge was able to win the belt at this past Sunday's Armageddon, but with a bit of help. The Major Brothers tag team were dressed in similar ring attire and served as "look-alikes" to fool both Batista and the Undertaker in the Triple Threat match. Edge himself was able to knock out Undertaker with a steel chair and then steal a pin on Batista, who was already down thanks to Taker. So tonight fans will see the new era begin with Edge holding the title again.

Batista is now the former champion and has invoked his rematch clause. Therefore according to WWE.com we will see Batista challenge Edge for the World Heavyweight title on Smackdown. Can Batista reclaim the title and glory from Edge? Or will Edge have other plans again, involving Vickie and the Major Brothers?

Also on Smackdown, the Nature Boy Ric Flair will make an appearance. Flair is currently under a "win or retire" stipulation with all his matches. His next contest will be Triple H on New Year's Eve. What will Flair have in store for Smackdown?

And finally there is Smackdown announcer JBL. JBL interfered in the WWE title match at Armageddon, costing Chris Jericho a victory and the WWE title. On this past week's epsiode of Raw, Jericho confronted JBL who appeared on the Titantron. After Jericho called out the self-proclaimed "Wrestling God", JBL promised he would return to the ring on Raw. On Smackdown, JBL will make a farewell adress. Will Jericho make an appearance or will any other superstars come to give JBL his send off?

Find out the answers to all of these questions and catch all the action as Smackdown airs 8PM EST on the CW network!

Thoughts on Armageddon

The Let's Wrestle's audio show has their thoughts on the aftermath of the Armageddon Pay Per View with some good discussions of what will go down now as a result of tonight's PPV. Here's some more thoughts on the Pay Per View.

Most surprising was the Jeff Hardy victory over HHH. These are the things that make WWE great, the wins we might not see coming. Hardy now will get a title shot at the Rumble, and perhaps it means one of a few things. One scenario is that Hardy will lose his IC title prior to the match. In the other scenario, it's a title vs. title match, similar to other times we've seen the IC champ face the WWE champ. As I mentioned in my previous predictions, it wouldn't be surprising to see a Triple Threat match go down between Orton, Triple H and Jeff Hardy.

Also surprising was JBL intervening in the title match between Orton and Jericho. The motives for JBL will be interesting to see. He basically interfered after being bumped into by Chris Jericho at the commentators' table. Will this mean JBL is back to the ring, or is JBL going to manage Orton? JBL is usually seen on Smackdown, so him interfering here made not much sense. It may set up a future match between Jericho and JBL. It also makes you wonder if JBL will be leaving his Smackdown position alongside Michael Cole. On the flipside, Randy Orton continues his title reign. You have to wonder who will be the man to take the belt from him, Jeff Hardy, Triple H or someone else?

The rest of the card wasn't all that surprising. Edge took back his title as many may have expected. The filler tag match from ECW-Smackdown saw the monsters continue to dominate. MVP continues to find ways to keep his title by being counted out of matches or dodging his opponents. Beth Phoenix also continues to dominate and hold the women's belt. Hornswoggle and Finlay continue to bail each other out as Finlay enjoys his new "good guy" role. I'd have to agree with many others who speculate that Khali is being prepared for a match against all-time great Hulk Hogan, probably at Wrestlemania. Things should get more interesting as we head towards the Royal Rumble, as the victor of the big match is always tough to predict.

Tonight's Raw on USA should definitely set up more of the title picture and various feuds. See the Raw Preview here.

WWE Armageddon 07' Predictions

Armageddon hits us this Sunday and features several titles up for grabs and alliances being formed or tested. For this round of predictions, WWE Characters the Blog will enter a handicap match competing against Let's Wrestle's WWE Wrestling News blog. Their blog has 2 authors, Matt Loede & John Sefcik, so you'll see my picks followed by theirs for each match. They have a great WWE audio show at Let's Wrestle where they discuss all of the Armageddon matches and these predictions. Good luck to everyone!

Mickie James vs. Beth Phoenix

Phoenix has been nothing but dominant against the sisterhood of divas while holding the Women's title belt. It seems like she will continue that dominance until Candice Michelle can return to compete with her. Mickie will put up a fight but it's hard to see her becoming the Women's champ here.

Predictions:
WWE Characters: Beth Phoenix
Matt Loede: Beth Phoenix
John Sefcik: Beth Phoenix

Finlay vs. Great Khali

In probably the most predictable of all match scenarios, is there any reason to believe Hornswoggle won't come to the aid of his friend Finlay? Finlay did so for Hornswoggle at Survivor Series, so it makes sense. I expect the leprechaun to show up and create some sort of distraction to the giant Khali, allowing Finlay to knock him out with the shalaleigh.

Predictions:
WWE Characters: Finlay
Matt Loede: Great Khali
John Sefcik: Finlay

Jeff Hardy vs. Triple H

A battle between recent buddies. They formed the unlikely alliance from Survivor Series as the last 2 men standing in their elimination match. The obvious favorite and pick to receive a WWE title shot at the Royal Rumble would be the Game, Triple H. This will probably be the top match on the card, and its hard to say what scenario plays out, beyond one of the two guys turning heel. Triple H is a sure headliner so he should take the win here, but a draw wouldn't be too surprising either, setting up a WWE title Triple Threat for the Rumble.

Predictions:
WWE Characters: Triple H
Matt Loede: Triple H
John Sefcik: Triple H

Shawn Michaels vs. Mr. Kennedy

This feud will most likely continue several more weeks beyond just this match. However, it would seem WWE wants to begin the title push for Mr. Kennedy. He was originally slated to be the Money in the Bank title challenger at Wrestlemania 24. This may be the second best match of the night after Triple H-Hardy, and I see Kennedy pulling off a victory to begin his title pursuit.

Predictions:
WWE Characters: Mr. Kennedy
Matt Loede: Shawn Michaels
John Sefcik: Mr. Kennedy

CM Punk & Kane vs.Big Daddy V & Mark Henry

This might be the least fan-friendly match on the card. For some reason it seems they didn't want to give Punk a true ECW title match and instead feature 4 wrestlers in a tag match. Honestly, I'm still waiting for the WWE to give us a tag champs vs. tag champs match again. Rhodes & Holly vs. Miz and Morrison would be somewhat interesting. In this tag match, Punk and Kane will win it after staving off the tough attack of these two big monsters.

Predictions:
WWE Characters: Punk & Kane.
Matt Loede: Big Daddy V & Henry
John Sefcik: V & Henry

Rey Mysterio vs. MVP

MVP has been a longtime US champ and he should continue that dominant reign here. Mysterio will definitely put up a good fight and may even win by DQ or countout here, but MVP will continue to hold his title, most likely until Matt Hardy can return. It wouldn't be surprising to see MVP hold the title until Wrestlemania at this point.

Predictions:
WWE Characters: MVP
Matt Loede: MVP
John Sefcik: MVP

Chris Jericho vs. Randy Orton

I'm expecting Orton to at least close out 2007 as champ, before the title changes hands. There's even local ads here in CT talking about Raw here next month and advertising the main event as Jericho battling Orton for the WWE title. Orton likely finds a way to cheat and survive to keep his WWE title.

Predictions:
WWE Characters: Randy Orton
Matt Loede: Randy Orton
John Sefcik: Randy Orton

World Heavyweight Triple Threat
Edge vs. Undertaker vs. Batista

This one will be interesting, but it should be the culmination of the plan set forth by Vickie and Edge. Taker and Batista will probably cancel one another out and Edge or Vickie will find some way to cheat, giving Edge the title back. Wouldn't be surprising to see Vickie come out of a "fake wheelchair/neckbrace" scenario and help interfere in the match. Edge takes the World Heavyweight title back with a screw job.

Predictions:
WWE Characters: Edge
Matt Loede: Edge
John Sefcik: Edge

As you can see everyone's on the same page with predictions for the title matches. We differ either on the Kane/Punk tag match, Kennedy vs. Michaels and Khali vs. Finlay. It's always tough to foresee countouts and DQ's on these Pay-Per-Views but we can be sure there will be at least a couple. Thanks again to Let's Wrestle's WWE Wrestling News blog for the friendly competition. Head over to their site, where they have contests to give away the Raw's Greatest hits CD or the new Smackdown vs. Raw video game. 5 Armageddon Matches

WWE.com has provided the following matches for its upcoming Armageddon Pay Per View. As you'll notice Chris Jericho has been granted the WWE title shot upon his return to the WWE. No word yet on if Batista or Edge will be defending the World Heavyweight title at the event but since Batista is on the poster you'd have to believe he will be there. Here's the lineup so far:

Randy Orton vs. Chris Jericho (WWE Championship)
Triple H vs. Jeff Hardy
Shawn Michaels vs. Mr. Kennedy
Finlay vs. The Great Khali
Mickie James vs. Beth Phoenix

Armageddon arrives on Sunday December 16th at 8PM EST on Pay-Per-View.

Armageddon 2007, Edge & Finlay

WWE Armageddon Poster 2007

Pictured above is the 2007 Armageddon poster featuring Batista. The event comes our way December 16th at 8PM EST on Pay Per View. It's looking like the main events will be some sort of WWE title defense for Orton vs. Jericho, and maybe a Triple Threat for the World Heavyweight (Edge vs. Taker vs. Batista). I was expecting Mr. Kennedy to be wearing the IC title by now, but right now he's feuding with HBK, so it remains to be seen if he captures that title. Most likely those two battle at Armageddon also.

Recent wrestling blogs and writers have been criticizing the move by Finlay to become a face. Recently he's come to the aid of Hornswoggle during fights with Great Khali and Carlito. This past Friday he was in a handicap match with the leprechaun on Smackdown against Mark Henry, and Khali came down post-match to attack. Another blogger suggested that Finlay feud with Chuck Palumbo and that makes good sense and probably would provide for some great contests. Even a feud with an ECW member wouldn't hurt, such as Tommy Dreamer. Finlay makes a great heel, just as guys like Santino and MVP seem to. Wouldn't be too surprised to see Finlay and Hornswoggle beat Morrison and the Miz for the tag titles at some point.

The Vicki Guerrero and Edge relationship is also a strange one that I wasn't expecting. Not sure if this was the original plan based on Edge's injury, but it seems like it was concocted at the last moment to provide a reason for Edge's return and attack of the Undertaker. They most likely saw how well Lita and Edge worked as heels and decided to go that route again.

Don't forget to mark your calendars and set your TIVO's for the big 3 hour Raw Anniversary show on December 10th. The show celebrates 15 years of the show running. It hasn't ever aired a repeat. In its history it's run on USA most of that time with maybe a few shows or just one airing on Sci Fi. Check out an article on Indiantelevision.com about the upcoming episode.

And finally a Happy Birthday to Beth Phoenix! Today the diva turned 27, and continues to enjoy her new title reign!
