The final segment had Josh Matthews in the ring.  He introduced the World Champion Sheamus, and then Big Show.  Security is in the ring and forms a line in the middle of the ring to keep the two competitors apart.  Show talks about how his KO Punch is more devastating than the Brogue Kick.  Show has footage shown of Sheamus trying to Brogue Kick him on Raw and getting shoved out of the ring.  Show says Sheamus got his boot to chest level.  He says he's a giant and Sheamus can't kick him in the head.

Sheamus responds saying he started salivating when Show became the #1 contender, because Show's a legend, but he's ready for the challenge.  Show acts like he's scared.  Sheamus says he'll choke Show down to size if he has to and hit him with as many Brogue Kicks as needed to win.  Sheamus says the time for fighting is now, and jumps Show across the security line.  They clear out all the security guards.  Sheamus goes for the Brogue Kick, but Show ducks it and exits the ring.  They staredown to finish Smackdown.

Darren Young and Titus O'Neil defeated R-Truth and Kofi Kingston in the tag team tournament match.    Kofi got ready for Trouble in Paradise on Young late in the match, but Titus distracted from outside the ring.  Truth rushed over to attack him on the outside.  In the ring, Young ducked Kofi's kick, and then Titus tripped up Kofi from the outside.  Young hit his knees to the gut finisher on Kofi for the win. They'll take on Rey Mysterio and Sin Cara in the Semifinals round.

Ryback defeated Primo by pinfall in a squash match.  Rosa Mendes and Epico were ringside for the match.  Ryback dominated throughout but Primo managed to clip his leg at one point to ground Ryback and attack.  That was shortlived as Ryback picked him up and threw him across the ring, then hit a huge clothesline to level him.   Epico tried to bring Primo up the ramp with Rosa to escape, but Ryback got out of the ring and clotheslined Epico down.  Primo tried to punch him, but Ryback grabbed his fist and then pressed Primo overhead before tossing him back into the ring.  He finished with the Shellshock for the win.

Paul Heyman and CM Punk were shown walking backstage.  Heyman went up to some staff members and asked where Dolph Ziggler's locker room is.  They pointed them in the right direction and Heyman went with Punk that way.

Layla defeated Alicia Fox by pinfall.  During the match, Divas Champion Eve Torres was on commentary.  During the match, Fox caught Layla's foot and then took Layla down.  She worked on her left knee and smacked Layla on the butt.  Fox kept attacking Layla's hurt knee to exploit the injury.  However, Layla managed to make a comeback and hit her roundhouse kick to get the pinfall win.  Post-match Layla cut a promo on the mic about becoming divas champ again.

Vickie and Dolph Ziggler were walking backstage when CM Punk and Heyman came up to them.  Punk got on Ziggler for walking out on him during the main event tag match on Raw.  They went back and forth with insults and Ziggler told Punk to prove something to earn respect.  Booker T rushed up and got in the middle then said they'd settle it in the ring tonight.

Later still, Punk and Ziggler fought on the corner, and ended up going to the outside.  Heyman checked on his guy and tried to get him going with a pep talk.  Both guys got back in the ring, trading near falls.  Ziggler hits the Zig Zag for a 2 count.  Punk hits a roundhouse kick for a 2 of his own.  Punk slams Ziggler and then goes up top, but takes too long, allowing Ziggler to go get him.  Ziggler slams Punk down to the mat.  He goes for a move at Punk in the corner, but Punk moves away, then hits GTS for the win.

Post-match, Punk gets up on the commentators' table with his title belt.  He gets on the mic saying he's heard from Bret Hart, Jim Ross and everyone.  He says he knows what he needs to do to get respect and for that reason he won't face Cena at Hell in a Cell.  Smackdown ends with that.

Smackdown Results 09/28/12

Smackdown results from Buffalo, NY:

The opening had Big Show come to the ring to vow that he was the only one on the roster who can defeat Sheamus for the World Heavyweight Championship.  That brought Randy Orton out to talk about how Show has to go through him first.  Orton suggested Show might fall victim to an RKO later, and Show said maybe he'll get hit by a KO instead.  Alberto Del Rio came out to interrupt them, and got in the ring, only to get hit by Orton's RKO.  Orton left the ring with Show watching from inside.

Antonio Cesaro defeated Santino Marella by pinfall to retain the United States Championship.  Late in the match, Cesaro went for the Neutralizer from the corner ropes, but Santino did a backdrop to throw him down to the mat.  However, Santino missed on a diving move from the ropes.  That gave Cesaro the opportunity to hit the Neutralizer for the victory, to retain the title.  Aksana was not present during the match.

Matthews and Cole returned on camera to talk about Dr. Shelby's latest therapy for Kane and Bryan.  They replayed the first segment from Raw where they were in the diner with Kane dressed up as a water named "Gerald."

Beth Phoenix defeated Natalya by pinfall.  Beth extended her hand and Natalya shook as the match began.  They had a Tout before the match from Eve saying she takes her position very seriously and there will be series consequences for Kaitlyn's attacker.  Cole said Beth Phoenix called Eve a liar on Twitter.  During the match, Natalya managed to get the Sharpshooter on, with Beth ultimately able to crawl her way to the bottom rope to break it.  Moments later, Beth managed to hit the Glam Slam on Natalya, but Nat surprisingly kicked out of the pinfall.  From the corner, the two divas traded pitfalls with Beth able to roll through and pin Natalya.  Beth cried after the win with Cole saying it was an outpouring of emotions from this week.

Post-match, Eve's music hit and she came onto the stage.  Eve apologized to Beth for what happened on Raw.  Eve said all they know now is the assailant is a blonde.  Eve told Beth until the investigation is finished she is indefinitely suspended.  Beth was shocked and started arguing with Natalya, who took offense and kept saying "I had nothing to do with this."

Backstage, Teddy Long commended Booker on the tag team division lately.  Booker said he's proposed an 8-team single elimination tournament with the winners facing Kane and Daniel Bryan at Hell in a Cell.  All of a sudden, Beth Phoenix burst into the office asking if Booker saw what just happened with her getting suspended.  Booker was shocked by it, as Eve came in and told Booker she was acting in the best interests of his office.  Booker told Eve he didn't know of this and the decision was overturned.  Eve apologized to Booker and Beth.  After Beth left, Eve pretended that Teddy had recommended this to Eve, and then she said it's apparent Teddy is jealous of Booker being in charge and trying to make his administration look incompetent.  Teddy was flabbergasted by that and after Eve left, asked Booker if he really believed all that.

They did the Raw Rebound which covered Mick Foley on Raw, and CM Punk attacking him after the show.  The show ended with Ryback showing up to stare down Punk.

Wade Barrett defeated Zack Ryder by pinfall.  Early in the match, Barrett kicked Ryder hard in the gut, then hit a huge Gutwrench slam for a near fall.  He began punching away on Ryder in the corner, then yelled at the ref to back off.  One spot saw Barrett pick up Ryder and drop his legs against the rope to springboard Ryder onto a backbreaker.  Ryder made a late comeback, throwing a huge punch on Barrett to set him up in the corner for the Broski Boot.  Barrett rolled to the outside, but Ryder still connected on the Broski Boot.  Back in the ring, Ryder went to run against the ropes, with Barrett rushing over and clotheslining him to the outside.  Barrett rolled Ryder back in then hit the Souveneir Elbow for the big win.

The Rhodes Scholars defeated The Uso's by pinfall in Round 1 of the tag team elimination tournament.  Late in this match, the Uso's went on a huge run with Jey hip checking Rhodes in the corner.  Jey Uso hit a big Superkick on Rhodes.  The Uso's set up on the corner for a move, but Sandow yanked the one out of the ring.  The other Uso went for the big jump off the corner and Rhodes put his knees up.  From there, Cody hit Cross Rhodes to get the pinfall win.

The Rhodes Scholars will take on winner of Santino/Ryder vs. Gabriel/Kidd in the semifinals.  The other first round matchup has Prime Time Players vs. Kofi Kingston & R-Truth.

They showed the Bryan and Kane segment from Raw with Dr. Shelby at the diner, where Bryan and Kane each had to take a bite of the other's preferred meal.

Ryback defeated Tensai via pinfall.  Tensai had some early offense including a splash on Ryback in the corner followed by a series of punches.  Ryback blocked one, and then did a huge slam on Tensai to rile the crowd up.  Ryback went for his big clothesline with Tensai blocking it and then doing a huge Spinebuster for a near fall.  Ryback kicked out several times.  The conclusion saw Ryback able to hoist Tensai up on his shoulders and hit the Shellshock for the big win.  Ryback led the crowd in his "Feed Me More" chant after the win.

They showed Randy Orton walking backstage on his way out for the upcoming match.  Alberto Del Rio came out of nowhere and attacked Orton, knocking him to the ground and then shoving a big piece of set equipment on wheels into Orton. A referee showed up to get Del Rio out of there and check on Orton.  Cole said "we're supposed to have a #1 contender's match" as Smackdown hit break.

Big Show arrived to the ring, but when Orton's music hit, Alberto Del Rio came out instead.  Del Rio got on a mic on stage saying he'd be taking Orton's place tonight in the match.  All of a sudden, Orton appeared from backstage and attacked Del Rio, tossing him into the big WWE logo up on stage.  Orton, favoring his ribs, slowly made his way down the ramp with Show taunting from in the ring.

Big Show defeated Randy Orton via pinfall to become new #1 contender for the World Heavyweight Championship.  Late in this one, Orton kicked Show as he was trying to get in from the apron.  Orton tried to suplex Show from the apron, with Show punching Orton in the gut and getting back in the ring.  Show set up for the KO punch, but Orton surprised him with an RKO.  Orton crawled slowly over for a pin with Show kicking out before 3.  Cole said it had to be the ribs injury which lessened the impact of the RKO.  Orton set up for a Punt Kick but as he charged Show grabbed him by the throat and chokeslammed him.  Orton kicked out of that, and an enraged Show picked him up for a second chokeslam to get the win.  Big Show will go on to face Sheamus at Hell in a Cell PPV for the title.

Post-match, Orton was getting back to his feet in the ring.  Show got back in and landed a WMD KO punch to lay him out on the mat.  Show got on the mic and delivered a message telling Sheamus "I guess I'll see you at Hell in a Cell."

Backstage, Alberto Del Rio complained to Booker about reinstating the Brogue Kick for Sheamus at NOC right before the match.  Del Rio said that ended up costing him the win.  Booker reiterated his findings but said he did feel it may have been unfair.  Del Rio suggested he deserves another title shot, but Booker told him he'd have to earn it.  Booker puts Del Rio in a tag match with Dolph Ziggler and their opponents are Orton and Sheamus.

Brodus Clay defeated Heath Slater due to disqualification.  Late in the match, Clay was ready for the win but got attacked by Drew McIntyre and Jinder Mahal.  The three men kept attacking post-match, with each hitting their big move on Clay to leave him down on the mat.  They all took a bow after beating up Clay.

Santonio Marella defeated Antonio Cesaro by pinfall in a non-title match.  Late in the match, Cesaro hit a big uppercut to knock down Santino.  However, when Cesaro went for the pin, the ref was distracted by Aksana.  Cesaro yelled at her to get out of the ring.  Santino gets the rollup pinfall from behind on Cesaro.  Post-match, Cesaro tells Aksana they're finished and walks off.

Daniel Bryan and Kane defeated Cody Rhodes & Damien Sandow due to DQ in a Lumberjack Match.  Late in this main event, Kane hit a big chokeslam on Damien Sandow.  However, Cody Rhodes came into the ring with a steel chair and smashed it on Kane from behind to cause the DQ.  Post-match, Rhodes goes to hit Kane with the chair again, but Bryan grabs it away.  Kane knocks down Rhodes.  Bryan goes to hit Rhodes with the chair but stops and gives it to Kane instead.  Kane hits Rhodes with the chair.  Bryan gets another chair and the tag champs smile at each other before both smashing their chairs down on Sandow.  The show closed out with them beating up the rest of the lumberjacks.

Smackdown Results from Ottawa:

Smackdown opened with a recap of the recent events surrounding Sheamus' Brogue Kick.  Booker T banned the move and told Sheamus if he uses it again he'll be stripped of the World Heavyweight title.

Smackdown started in the arena with Ricardo Rodriguez and David Otunga in neck braces, and Alberto Del Rio on the mic.  Del Rio gave credit to Booker T for banning the Brogue Kick.  Ricardo spoke about his condition and started crying on the mic.  Otunga went over and took the mic away patting him on the chest.  Otunga spoke about AJ Lee being irresponsible as a GM and said he may have a fractured vertebrae in two spots.

Del Rio thanked Otunga for his words then had footage rolled out Sheamus hitting the Brogue Kick on Christian last year.  Del Rio welomed Christian via satellite to speak.  Christian appeared on camera with a shoulder brace on.  Otunga noted Christian just had shoulder surgery.  Christian cut off Otunga saying they know he's one of the toughest guys around.  Christian said he's not doing this for them, or himself, but for the other guys backstage who might not stand up for what's right.  Christian eventually admitted the Brogue Kick is dangerous, but as he tried to continue that thought, Del Rio thanked him for his time and the satellite feed cut out.

Daniel Bryan's music hit as Del Rio was speaking, bringing out Bryan to cheers of "YES!"  Bryan thanked them for bringing this case to light, saying he has also been a victim of the Brogue Kick.  Bryan said people say he has a "goat face" but he doesn't.  He said if he does, it's because Sheamus kicked him in the face so many times.  Bryan said Booker T has granted him a Wrestlemania rematch tonight, against Sheamus.  Bryan talked about how Sheamus used the illegal maneuver to defet him in 18 seconds.  Bryan started yelling on the mic about why he got a rematch, but Sheamus' music hit and he came out to interrupt.

Sheamus spoke from up on stage talking about how Bryan didn't lose because of the Brogue Kick, but because of him.  Sheamus told them that those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it.  Sheamus went to get in the ring, but Otunga got in his face.  Sheamus grabbed him by the neckbrace and yanked Otunga against the top rope, causing Otunga to snap back and hit the mat.  Sheamus backed up the ramp waving the brace around as Del Rio and crew checked on Otunga.

Michael Cole reported that he spoke with Jerry Lawler just a couple days ago and he's getting ready to leave the hospital soon.  He recommended fans who want to wish The King well send a tweet with the hashtag #getwelljerry because he guarantees he's reading them all.

They showed a replay of the highlights from Sin Cara and Mysterio vs. Miz and Rhodes last week.

Sin Cara defeated The Miz by pinfall in a non-title match.  Late in the match, Miz rushed at Cara in the corner.  Cara tried to put a boot to Miz's face, but Miz caught his foot then pulled him to the middle of the ring to try for a Skullcrushing Finale.  Cara fought out of the move, then did a headscissors and converted it into an interesting pinfall move to get the 3 count.

Striker was interviewing The Miz backstage about how he will have a mystery opponent at Night of Champions.  Cody Rhodes showed up and Miz brought up him attacking him from behind.  Cody said it was to put him on notice he wants his IC title back.  Mysterio showed up and said he pinned Miz during a tag match on Raw so he should get the title shot.  Sin Cara came up next and Miz asked what he wanted.  Cara didn't say anythin but pointed at the IC title.  As Miz started arguing he would've beat them all, Teddy Long came into the picture.  He asked Miz if he can defeat all these guys at once?  He announced a Fatal Fourway for the IC title at NOC with Rhodes, Mysterio, and Sin Cara as Miz's opponents.

They showed a video package highlighting the anger management sessions, feud and recent tag team win by Kane and Daniel Bryan.  They'll go for the tag titles at Night of Champions Sunday.

A new segment was shown with Dr. Shelby, Bryan and Kane.  The doctor was sitting on a couch with Kane as he was squeezing an anger ball.  Bryan walked in and told Kane he's doing it wrong.  They got into an argument with both guys saying they want to be the next tag team champions.  Shelby intervened telling them to squeeze their balls to release anger.  They did for a while, but then Kane stopped and showed his ball to Bryan saying "mine's bigger," before leaving the scene.

Kane defeated Kofi Kingston via pinfall.  Late in the match, Kofi went for the Trouble in Paradise kick, but Kane caught him by the throat.  Kofi jumped out of the hold, then went out to the apron to hit a pendulum kick on a charging Kane.  Kofi went onto the top of the corner for a high risk move.  Kane caught him around the throat and this time connected on the chokeslam.  Post-match, Dr. Shelby came out onto the stage and looked down the ramp towards Kane.  Kane got back in the ring and picked up Kofi by the neck.  Shelby kept watching then shrugged towards Kane.  Kane let go of the hold and hugged Kofi before letting go of him and leaving the ring.  Dr. Shelby applauded to show his approval.

Striker interviewed Randy Orton backstage about his match Sunday vs. Dolph Ziggler, and why he would ask for a match on tonight's show against Tensai.  Orton said maybe he wanted a 260 pound tune-up for Sunday.  Orton brought up his match with Ziggler on Sunday.  He mentioned his match is later in the card, so he might be facing the World Champion if Ziggler cashes in on Sheamus or Del Rio earlier on.  Orton said maybe he just doesn't like that punk though.

Randy Orton defeated Tensai by pinfall.  Late in the match, Orton hit his DDT on Tensai from the middle ropes, and had a near fall.  He followed by stomping away on Tensai's legs and arms while he was still down.  Later, Orton fought off Sakimoto by punching him off the apron.  He dropped to the mat and started pounding the mat for the RKO.  As Tensai finally got up, Orton went for it, but got countered and then Powerbombed to the mat.  Tensai went for the senton splash, but Orton rolled out of harm's way.  He followed up with the RKO for the big win.  Post-match, Vickie Guerrero came out onto the stage with a mic.  She told Orton Ziggler didn't appreciate Randy's comments earlier.  She said Dolph took tonight off but he will beat Randy on Sunday.  She said Orton will never be World Champion again.  Orton said she's wrong, and he knows while he's standing there talking to her with his back turned, it could only mean one thing.  Orton dropped the mic and turned around then began to pound the mat, as Ziggler tried to rush in from behind.  Ziggler ran around the ring and up the ramp, furious their plan backfired.

They showed highlights from Santino losing the US title to Antonio Cesaro at SummerSlam, thanks to The Cobra getting distraced by Aksana.

Back to the ring for Smackdown, Antonio Cesaro spoke about how he felt "outraged" in five languages, due to the fact his opponent for Sunday would be decided in a battle royal.  As Cesaro kept yelling, Tyson Kidd came out on the mic and got in the ring to get in Cesaro's face.  Aksana started rubbing on Kidd's arms, and Cesaro hit him with an uppercut before tossing Kidd out of the ring.  Cesaro asked on the mic, "anyone else? I didn't think so" but then Brodus Clay's music hit.  Brodus got in the ring with Cesaro trying to get away.  As he went to exit, Kidd was back on the apron and hit a huge kick to knock Cesaro back towards Clay who headbutted him down.  Clay followed with the big splash, and then danced with Kidd in the ring.

Wade Barrett came to the stage saying last week he said "Wade Barrett was open for business," but everyone was either too scared or stupid to get it.  He said next week, one lucky person gets a chance to sample the product.  Cole and Matthews talked over what he might mean.

They showed a Tout video from Eve who said she is proud of Kaitlyn and Layla for representing the divas division this Sunday.  She said no matter who wins, they'll be a good representative for the division.

Josh Matthews brought up how tonight's show in Ottawa was WWE's last stop before they hit Boston on Sunday for the Night of Champions PPV.  He brought up the big match involving John Cena against CM Punk for the WWE title, then the Raw Rebound showed the latest events from Raw involving Punk leaving the tag match with Paul Heyman, and his later showdown in the ring with Bret Hart and John Cena.

Michael Cole and Josh Matthews talked over some of the matches for Sunday's PPV including Cena vs. Punk and Del Rio vs. Sheamus.

Backstage, Eve commended Booker T on banning the Brogue Kick from Sunday's match at NOC, saying she thinks he made the right decision.  Booker thanked Eve for everything she's been doing, saying she's done a great job as an assistant.  Teddy Long showed up and seconded that notion then Booker said Teddy's been doing a great job too, and tried to give him a fist bump, but Teddy went for the handshake.  Teddy then offered a fist bump when Booker went for a shake, making for an awkward moment.  Eve laughed about it, then told Booker they had some business to attend to and they left Teddy standing there feeling awkward.

Sheamus arrived out for the main event match against Daniel Bryan.  David Otunga, Alberto Del Rio and Ricardo Rodriguez were all shown watching the match backstage.  Bryan arrived out to yell "No" at ringside fans ahead of the match.

Sheamus defeated Daniel Bryan via submission in a non-title match.  Late in the match, Bryan jumped at Sheamus for a move with Sheamus grabbing him, but Bryan put on a submission hold by putting his arm around Sheamus' neck.  Sheamus tried to ram him against the corner to break it but couldn't.  Sheamus finally flipped Bryan over his back, but Bryan went for the pinfall.  Bryan tried to follow wit hthe No Lock but Sheamus escaped, and hit the Irish Curse backbreaker.  He followed that with the Texas Cloverleaf submission.  Bryan screamed "NO!" and attempted to crawl over to the bottom rope.  Sheamus pulled him back to the center forcing Bryan to say "Yes" and tap out.  Sheamus celebrated with his title to close out Smackdown.

The former speculation seems more possible than the latter two. However, there's been recent news that seems to indicate two TNA stars are going to show up at the event. According to WrestlingInc.com, former WWE champions Kevin Nash and Booker T will both show up as surprise entrants in the 2011 Royal Rumble.

The interesting part of this story is not only the surprise return, but the timing. Both guys were involved in a major TNA storyline but were also due to renew/sign their contracts with TNA. WWE was able to steal them away just in the nick of time and is now adding to the Rumble match!

These two wrestlers are aging, but could make interesting additions to WWE. The question after the Rumble would be how are they involved in Smackdown and/or Raw as well as the PPV's and title pictures that are going on.

The other spoiler is of course the speculation that The Game, Triple H, will return for this match. Right now, many fans and analysts either predict him to win the Rumble, or for Triple H and Sheamus to take each other out of the equation. That leaves the Rumble open for another star to take.

WWE Stars Drive TNA Wrestling

If you happen to check out WWE's competition every Thursday night, you're in for a show full of familiar faces from WWE's past. The organization itself is apparently run by former WWE superstar, Jeff Jarrett. It's flagship wrestlers include Kurt Angle, Booker T, Christian Cage, Rhino, Team 3-D (Dudley Boys) and occasionally Kevin Nash. Daivari also appears on the show and after a very recent debut, is one of its minor champions. Amongst the TNA Knockouts (its version of divas), are former WWE divas, Gail Kim and Christy Hemme. More recently, the show added Mick Foley, who just weeks ago was sitting alongside Jim Ross as a commentator on the Smackdown TV show. It seems as if Foley was unhappy at WWE and jumped ship. On this past Thursday's show Foley even made reference to one important person he wanted to thank, Vince McMahon, stating he told him no way would he stay with WWE.

Now Foley becomes the "special guest enforcer" in an upcoming TNA PPV Match. The competitors? Two previously mentioned former WWE stars, Kurt Angle and Jeff Jarrett. According to TNA, it will be a first-time ever battle between these two colossal stars. The main point here is that TNA is relying upon WWE stars to drive its product. Most of the former WWE stars have gone on to become the major champion on the show as well. Kurt Angle, Christian Cage and Booker have all had the title at one time or another. In WWE, Christian never came close to a WWE or World Heavyweight title. Fans who follow wrestling know these stars from the WWE, so to think that TNA is cleverly using them to beat out its competitor is an understatement. During Wrestlemania 24, TNA made sure to schedule shows in the Orlando-Florida area to capitalize on the wrestling crowd that would be in town.

It seems TNA is either paying homage to its bigger, badder competitor, the WWE, or trying to throw jabs where it can, using former stars. And don't forget the Stone Cold Steve Austin immitations by a masked star named "Shark Boy", as well as Abyss who seems like a Mankind throwback. While entertaining, TNA will still have a long way to go in terms of gaining massive market share from WWE. Then again, if enough top stars at WWE get unhappy, or busted for drug violations, TNA may be able to load its roster.

Do you watch TNA in addition to WWE, or only the WWE? Feel free to sound off below!

WWE King of the Ring Winners

King Booker T

In 2006, Booker T defeated Bobby Lashley to become WWE's King for over a year's time. Both Booker and Lashley have since left WWE. Monday night will mark the return of WWE's tradition, the King of the Ring tournament. Eight wrestlers from the Raw, Smackdown and ECW rosters will compete in a single elimination tournament, until 1 man is victorious. That man will be crowned the 2008 King of the Ring. Jerry Lawler has always used "King" as part of his nickname, but was never an official winner of the tournament.

The event had its start way back in 1985, and has produced 17 kings, with Don Muraco the first ever. Bret Hart is the only wrestler to repeat as King (1991 and 1993). There was no tournament held in 1990, 1992, 2003-05, or 2007. Also of note, the tournament has had as many as 16 competitors, but more recently has shortened the field to just 8.

Booker was the last official winner of the tournament but left the WWE in 2007. Here's a look back at all the wrestlers who have enjoyed reigns as the WWE's "King of the Ring" as well as the wrestler they beat in the final match.

WWE News: Booker, PPV's, ECW

Here's some of the best stuff from around the internet which includes interesting WWE stories, inteviews and events coming up. Today's info includes Sgt. Slaughter, Kurt Angle, King Booker, The ECW and the Judgement Day Pay Per View 2008.

The Orlando Sentinel has a great article/interview with Booker T who recently quit the WWE. In the article Booker discusses that he left because he felt WWE didn't try to protect him from the steroid allegations and that he was unfairly suspended. Booker also talks about how he wanted a Booker vs. Jerry Lawler match at Summerslam, and how he was unhappy being traded to Raw. Full article on Booker T here.

The Times Tribune, a media source out of Scranton, Pennsylvania discusses how wrestling is returning to their area for the first time in nearly a decade on November 3rd. The "Electric City Slam" event will be at Lackawanna College and benfits its athletic department. The show will feature Sgt. Slaughter, Jerry Lawler and TNA's Kurt Angle. Read more about the event here

Cassidy Haslett over at wrestling101.com has an article discussing several errors that exist over on WWE.com's ECW section. Errors include listing Mike Knox and Kelly Kelly as each other's "associates" still and listing John Morrison as Johnny Nitro. An interesting read and despite all that there is good news that Sci Fi will continue to broadcast ECW through 2008.

If you live in or near the Omaha, Nebraska area, Judgement Day will take place there next year on May 18, 2008. Tickets actually go on sale this Saturday. Head over to Ticketmaster Saturday for tickets.

News: Flair, Sandman & Booker

Ric Flair is reportedly still in talks with the WWE to work out things with his WWE career. 24wrestling.com gives 6 backstage reasons why Flair reportedly "gave his notice" to World Wrestling Entertainment including bitterness over being demoted to the Smackdown roster from Raw, losing a match to Finlay on the show and the fact his scheduled match vs Carlito for Wrestlemania 23 was scrapped. There was a planned retirement story in the works as well to slowly ease Flair into his leaving the WWE as a wrestler.

WWE.com reported on 9/11 that Sandman (Jim Fullington) has been released by the WWE. According to wrestling-edge.com, Sandman posted a note on his Myspace page urging fans to not stop watching WWE due to his release. He also has vowed to return. From Sandman's Myspace page:

"I will make damn sure I am back in the WWE one day. WWE treated me well, I had a great time on WWE Raw and on ECW on SciFi...I loved every moment of it and the wrestling business is and has always been one big family combined with entertainment purposes. I appreciate all of your messages and all and I can not thank you guys enough! I will be back in WWE one day again...count on it. "

Phillyburbs.com had the following to report regarding King Booker quitting the WWE:

"King Booker has reportedly been unhappy for awhile following several issues behind the scenes in the WWE. It was a surprise to me when it was reported that he signed a new deal with the WWE a few months ago.

Out of all of the recent swaps as a result of the WWE "lottery", Booker definitely benefited most of any of the other talents. Booker's character was rejvenated going from a Smackdown mid-carder to being arguably the best thing on Monday Night Raw. I don't think it is a stretch to think that a full blown out Boooker vs. John Cena feud would have been great business. Booker was recently involved in a feud with Triple H which ended with a loss to Triple H at Summerslam."
